Amelia felt sick all of a sudden. Falling into bloody water wasn't exactly her idea of a good time, and another person had died, and the Watch still hadn't arrived... not to mention now, being soaked with water, Amelia was freezing in the early morning air.

Amelia pulled her heels up next to her and huddled on the cobblestones, completely wrapping herself up with the cloak. Hearing the sound of clicking claws, Amelia turned her gaze up to find Ed approaching them. The wolf's presence was enough to relax her spine, though she was still trembling.

"Ed...! I... we're sorry about this, we're... having a problem with a murderer right now..." Amelia sneezed again into the cloak and desperately wished for a shower. A nice, hot shower. "Are you all right, Ed?"

Ed tilted her snout up at Roy. The two had never really interacted, but she knew enough about the young lord to know who he was. She didn't make a returning gesture to the lord as she was a bit too shaken for that. Swallowing hard, Ed trotted toward the person she knew a bit better: Amelia.

Upon seeing the state Amelia was in, Ed whimpered with sympathy. Falling into a fountain of a fat stranger's blood didn't seem like the most fun thing to do. Ed certainly wasn't willing to do that, she wasn't as crazy as certain people... The wolf wagged her tail, but it was out of anxiety as she grumbled and whined.

Ed shook her head to Amelia. No, after seeing this, she wasn't exactly all right. But it appeared the others were having it worse. A murderer? Ed would have licked Amelia's cheek in an effort to cheer her up, but thinking about it too deeply, it was kind of a weird notion. Instead, Ed just tried to paw some blood off of the young soldier.

"Mur-drur?" she grunted, attempting to communicate with her muzzle to the best of her ability.

It took nearly an hour for Isadora to return with Captain Ghis riding behind her. Following her was Leon and the Watch members. While the members were examining the body, Ghis ordered the messenger to alert the city that no one should walk alone early in the morning. He ordered one of his members to have the troops position on the rooftops during the graveyard shift. The captain of the Watch was still waiting of the report about the investigation on the penmanship.

As Ghis asked Amelia did the killer left the note, the woman woke up. Isadora noticed the woman's awaken. "Excuse me, but you are at the scene of the crime. Do you remember what had happened?"

The woman, despite being panicked, told the paladin what had happened. She informed Isadora, Captain Ghis, and the others that the killer killed the man and disemboweled. She also informed that killer spotted her and was trying to kill her. She didn't know why he didn't kill her, but she couldn't let her fear go.

Isadora asked the woman about the killer's identity. The woman only described the outfit of the killer. She couldn't remember the killer's identity since it happened so fast.

Although the information was so little, Isadora was stunned. What the woman described was the same description Isadora had described to Leon. It was Tura. Tura was the murderer and he wanted her to be in his little game. It seemed that the paladin was in the game deeper than anyone was.

The cold chill went down from her spine. She didn't like it where this was going. She didn't want to be involved in his mad, twisted scheme. She wasn't even sure what Tura had in stored for her.

Isadora turned her attention to Amelia and Leon, wondering if they were thinking the same as she was. She hoped that the mad man had not involved Amelia in. It was bad enough that she had lost her father recently. She didn't want the General to worry about her safety too.

Curious of what Tura had left, Isadora asked Captain Ghis to show her the note. She had to see what he had writtened. If she could figure out his game, she had to end it immediately. For not only the safety of Eryis citizens, but for hers and Amelia's too.

The Magic Swordman Master Lord, Roy

Isadora and another General soon returned and they were able to speak with the unconscious woman. Though the information they got wasn't much, it was enough to at least prepare a little more. Though, judging from Isadora's reaction to the killer's appearance, Roy assumed that she knew a little more than the others about the killer. Well, he wasn't going to bother her about it.

He then waited for the note's contents to be read so that he could try to figure out just what was the killer's intentions. He also wanted to ask the General, who appeared to be a Watch member since he had returned with Isadora, if he could be a member of the Watch to help out.

They had to solve this case quickly, but the young lord had a sinking feeling that they wouldn't be able to solve it before another murder or two.

Amelia smiled warmly to Ed and removed her glove, exposing her dry, clean hand to pet Ed's head. Knowing Ed was also a human, it felt a little strange, but Amelia rubbed her fingers behind Ed's ear, trying to help her calm down just a little.

"Mur-drur?"

Amelia smiled a little at her efforts to speak, as well as her gesture of trying to help paw away some of the larger clots of blood that had gotten on her clothes. Amelia made a mental note to wash her clothes in extremely hot water as she continued to rub behind Ed's ears. "Yes... someone's murdered that man. There was another woman a day or so ago, also dead. The note's almost dry, then we can read it... but I'm sure it's the same person."

It was about at that moment that Isadora began to question the woman, whom had awoken. Amelia's heart sank when she affirmed Amelia's suspicion: The same person had killed this man. Getting a description of his clothing and appearance helped greatly. Amelia let Isadora approach Ghis, who had arrived, but stayed on the ground. She continued to scratch Ed's ears, too busy trying to warm up and stop feeling sick at being bloodied by someone else's bodily fluids. "Read it aloud so I can hear," Amelia requested. "Please."

>{Leon}<

Leon rode into the scene, getting tips from messengers and the lower-ranks of the Watch members. " 'Nother 'un..." the Lieutenant muttered tensely, cursing under his breath. Hadn't the warnings been enough? Or was it that even now... after they'd shown themselves (hopefully!) to be trustworthy, that people didn't take the Watch seriously because of their previous failures.

Fools! It be their own fault for not listenin' t' warnin's!

At least he got some words as to the briefing. Solving a case without information would be nigh impossible.

The killer's description matched that of a man Isadora had mentioned earlier...

Was that man's name was Tura. But... the one thing that didn't add up was... his motive? Why did he do this? Usually the zealots that said 'society was bad, blah blah blah' were upstanding nobles. This person was someone who didn't even know them. Again, he was stumped.

"We know 'is name... tha's a start. But what we really need to t' know is where he be hidin' out, this Tura person..."

This note was much like the last one; however, there was no explanation at the beginning (as they had already recieved it) and in its place was a simple title: "Why." Following was something close to what had already been given to them.

For seven days the canvas stands
And the finest paints will cover
The surface, and with my own hand
The truth will be shown once it is over

Although you may not like my methods
I am, in fact, quite fully sane
And though you seek to find a motive
I myself have naught to gain

Then what, the purpose? If for naught
You may ask, but do not fear!
These lives are spent, and what is bought
Is something that is far more dear

I pose to you this, another question
If those near you die, what do you do?
Especially if death is caused by others
Answer this, then start anew.

The note was finished, but once again the paper was marked on the other side, the writing implement having pushed though to the front, just a bit. These didn't seem like real clues; but they were interesting in that they let one see a bit of the killer's psyche, all the same.

There are many that live who deserve death; and some that die, deserve life.

Are you gonna deny the savior in front of your eyes?

Will you remain a slave for the rest of your lives? Give in to the night...

As before, the first was a messy sort of script, the second simple print, and the third dark and sloppy, scratched deep into the page. It seemed that perhaps the man behind this was not quite as sane as he thought; unless there were another person working with him.

Amelia stared in silence at the note. As the words he had written, both on the front and back of the paper, sank into her thoughts, Amelia shivered. She held the cloak tighter around her body and tried to make sense of everything. A man had killed a woman just recently, and now this man had already died. While they had read the note, the Watch had arrived and were setting up a perimeter upon the rooftops in order to watch for the murderer. A trio of men had taken the body, covered it, and were carrying it away to study it further for any possible clues.

"Will you remain a slave for the rest of your lives? Give in to the night..." Amelia repeated under her breath. A small shiver rolled down her spine once more. There was definitely something more ominous about all of this; the biggest question, though, was where to find this Tura. They had to bring him to justice.

Not unless they wanted to allow him to kill more people.

Amelia slowly rose to her feet. That ominous feeling wasn't going away; it coated itself around her skin and held fast, entrapping itself in her bones. Would something bad happen? Would something good come of all this? All she could feel was that she was frightened. She was frightened to possibly find him, but frightened to let him continue.

Amelia looked back at Leon and Ed. She leaned over and rubbed Ed's fuzzy head, pressing her cheek to the fur for a moment before standing back upright. "Leon... can you finish things here, please? I really need to wash up... and change..." Amelia looked again to the others, then to where Isadora had left. She lingered for a moment, then set off at a sprint for Fefga's.

Isadora felt more unease as she read the note. Somehow, Tura viewed himself as an artist. Using the note as a canvas to see people see in his little world... However, the paint that he used were the people's lives and blood. How far would that mad man go?

Furthermore, it seems that the clues were becoming more sense than what the previous note had. In fact, it was becoming more of statements than riddle and clue.

Although the note was becoming clearer, it still left the paladin with confusion and uncomfortable. Tura claimed that he was sane, but based by the handwriting, it still looked the same as the previous note. In addition, if his motive was not gained, than what was it that he seek? Just whose lives was that man after?

The last paragraph of the clue was quite simple to answer. We have to move on and continue with our lives. Isadora thought sadly. Wasn't that what she and Amelia were doing? She knew that they had lost Father Renault from the last battle and they did mourn for him. However, the paladin knew that the Archbishop didn't want them to cry in the past and feel miserable. She knew that he wanted them to be happy and to live out the fullest. Life may be short, but it was not right for them to wallow in their misery.

Isadora looked at the last two questions. New questions to confuse them again. Who was the savior that Tura spoke of? There were many across the land. It could be anyone, including herself. And being a slave? A slave to who... or what? Again, this mad killer was not making any sense.

The paladin looked up to the others and said, "Base by this note, it seems he was after someone... Does anyone know who is it that this killer after?"

"Finish, 'Melia? Sure.. ya gotta rest when ya can." replied Leon, before he felt another chill travel down his entire body upon reading the killer's 2nd note.

There are many that live and deserve death; and some that die, whom deserve life.

It was true, very true, but these were the words of a madman! Leon couldn't go believing them, he had to capture this person before any more died! Remain a slave? Leon was no slave. He was a free man, choosing his profession.

"Madman's words, all of 'em." he said aloud, disgusted. Trying to use the 'truth' as an excuse? That's all Tura was doing. Still these clues didn't give Leon the most important detail... where he was hiding out.

He didn't know if this killer had a specific range of victims he targetted either... for they were still waiting on getting identities. They needed time, and had none at all.

"Righ', Leon, ye mind if ah use yeh as a couryer? Ah need yeh t' give orders, 'n ah doon't feel like runnin' 'bout town t' do it..."

Ghis had been busy last night. More Watchguards were patrolling the streets then usual, more torches were lit than usual... but the killer dodged them all. Had it been luck? They'd all been in the more populous areas of town, so he couldn't be sure. Could there be someone in the ranks who is leaking information to (or perhaps IS) the killer? He couldn't note anyone suspicious enough to be a traitor, let alone anyone skilled enough. But no... the killer was a madman, that much was true. But he definitely had wits about him to evade the Watch so easily. Or, at the least, he had luck on his side.

Tomorrow, everyone in the Watch was to be out and about in the early morning. Fliers like Charice might not see very well in the darkness, but that was why archers were positioned along various rooftops, ready to fire flaming arrows high in the air if they see him. Guards patrolled the streets, among them Javert and Ghis himself. Numbers would detect him. In this city, they'd corner him. In that corner, he'd fall.

It wasn't perfect--some streets weren't so often occupied by guardsmen. But it would still be tougher to get around.

Jin would admit that Ghis was doing a half-decent job for an oaf of a General, but the man seemed to have the notion that this "Tura" was incapable of choosing his victims. Being former Black Fang meant you understood some of the tricks of the Assassin trade. Assassins didn't just kill random people. They had missions, and missions had targets. These people weren't just random.nextVictim-type victims; they were targets. And if they were targets, they likely had something in common. Perhaps the victims opposed the wrong group of people, or perhaps they were part of the killer's message. Assassin killings don't just happen; they're planned out.

It didn't take long to figure out who was who... at least the second person. Word spread quickly about a new job opening not far from the scene of today's murder, and sure enough the previous employee was the same victim. The woman was a bit tougher, not having much known about her. Still, he could at least inquire about the man. Anything at all might help.

Convoy duties. Leon, being one of the only mounted officers was given them quite often, especially now that Charice seemed to be occupied elsewhere. He was also one of the only ones who could write legibly... so again... important for him to issue orders.

"Where ya want me goin' first, Cap'n Ghis?" he asked.

Wherever he was ordered... he'd rush there.

All the while he was wondering why Tura managed to dodge their numbers. There was a spy? There had to be...

Where ever I wander, where ever I roam,

The Magic Swordman Master Lord, Roy

User Image

Roy listened to the person reading the note, then sighed. Really...he should have at least focused more on his studies rather than skip them and flirt with the women in Pherae and Ostia. Oh well...what was done was done.

Well, he had no idea what the killer's intentions were. But he did notice a few things upon checking the body. For one thing, several parts were missing. He might not have skills as a doctor, but he knew enough about anatomy to know that the intestines, stomach, and liver were gone. Probably the vast majority of the digestive system was gone, if he had gone through the trouble of actually digging through the dead man's insides. But why? What purpose did they serve to the killer? What good were some internal organs, unless a body was being made?

He shook his head, now wondering what was taken from the first body. Since they didn't let him take a look, he had no idea if the thievery of body parts held any connection with the killer's intentions. It probably wasn't a good idea to announce any possible theories, since he didn't have much to go with.

He glanced over at the others that remained. "I'm gonna go wash my clothes...they reek from having to help Isadora and Amelia pull the body down." he said.

The young lord then took his leave.
