 Hmmmm. Yes, that was true. Dolci couldn't remember the last time she'd seen another pony having a conversation with Yuuki. Furthermore, this was the first time she'd really spoken to him, too. For all the times she'd seen him, standing out in the crowd with his unique coloring and dark, shading mane, she'd not once tried to make friends with him. Which she suddenly felt very guilty for, because Yuuki wasn't a bad guy at all!
"I think... some of the other ponies... might be afraid to talk to you," she said carefully, speaking down into her chest. Her eyes didn't raise to meet his and she swatted at the core of the pear, nudging it back and forth in the grass. "N-not in a bad way, I mean. They just don't know you're so nice, that's all."
Stepping over the leftovers of her pear, she moved closer to him. Bending her legs and shifting her weight to lower down at his side. Then she spoke to him quietly, offering a reassuring smile. "But I know you make them feel safe. Some of them just think you're grumpy."

 "I am grumpy." He nodded once, shifting his weight so that he was leaning against her slightly. "It's alright though, I don't mind being alone. I've gotten used to it actually and I don't hold it against any of them."
He closed his eyes slowly, enjoying the feel of the sun on his face, mumbling quietly. "Did you have enough to eat? If you're still hungry, I'm sure I could find Gin somewhere, he's always eating something."

"You aren't grumpy," she retorted gently. "You're nice and sweet and very brave." Dolci gave a small nod. "I don't think you're grumpy at all."
In fact, with the kind way Yuuki acted towards her.. the way he offered his apple, shielded her from the rain, or risked his neck to keep the wolves away from her... Dolci would even go as far as to say that he was the nicest pony she'd met so far.
Blinking quickly, she leaned her head down close to his, peering at his closed eyelids. And then speaking in a hushed whisper, she nudged him lightly. "Are you sleepy again, Yuuki? You should get some more rest, if you want."

"I'm fine, just enjoying the sun." He leaned toward her absently, nuzzling his nose against the side of her neck before mumbling quietly. "Don't worry about me, just keep eating your pears. I can pull some down for you from the top of the tree if you'd like."
He pulled back quickly to look at her, her eyes were the same color as her mane and just as beautiful and he found himself distracted yet again for just a moment, lowering his gaze to stare at the grass as it swayed back and forth gently in the breeze. He'd never talked to the other ponies like this, just a brief "Hello." here and there, but never full on conversations and he never interacted with any of the other ponies like this, that was for sure.
This was all so very new to Yuuki, he wanted to be cautious but he didn't want to seem rude, he was afraid he'd push Dolci away and that was the last thing he wanted right now. Having her company reminded him just how lonely he could get sometimes, but he was so nervous.. He could feel his tail swooshing back and forth quickly, he was no good at carrying on, he didn't know what to say so he just blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "Do you like birds?"

"No, you don't have to do that," Dolci answered brightly, satisfied that her more normal tone of voice wouldn't wake him back up. Speaking in whispers was so hard sometimes! "I can get them. Just watch your head, okay?"
She giggled lightly, but made no move to get up. Sure there were plenty of pieces of ripe fruit dangling above them. And the other trees were dotted with vibrant spots of green and red up high in their branches. There were even a couple other fallen pears scattered across the grass around them, close enough that if Dolci streeeetched one leg out she could probably nudge at one with her hoof... but she didn't. She wasn't exactly full, but she was appeased for the moment to just lay there.
The other ponies, or at least the ones she considered friends, would probably be looking for her. Or she hoped they would be, anyway. If they hadn't forgotten her completely, that is. It had been hours and hours and hours and hours since she'd last seen Usagi or Dizzy or any of the younger ponies she'd been playing games with the night previously. But looking out over the large expanse of grass, seeing down over the small hill to the lake, and out further straight head to the small buildings that housed her friends... well, she still didn't feel much like moving.
She felt an attachment towards Yuuki. He made her feel safe. He didn't roll his eyes when she rambled and he didn't brush her off when she touched her nose to his neck or his face. And she was still very thankful he'd come along to her rescue, otherwise she probably wouldn't even be there to share the warmth of the sun with him!
"Birds?" Blinking, she peeked at him out of the corner of her eye. What a funny question to ask! "I do, yeah! There was a pretty blue songbird that would sit outside the window every morning at Peophynnia's, when I stayed there when I was younger. It would sing and sing and sing and it wasn't afraid of me, even when I'd try climbing up on the window sill." She smiled slightly. "I named it Bluey."

"I think I'll be safe from the falling fruit, they like you more anyway." He offered a small nod of his head, shifting his body slightly to lean in further toward the shade of the tree.
"Bluey? That's original." He smiled slightly before mumbling, closing his eyes again slowly. "I don't like birds much."
He'd wondered where all the other ponies were, it was such a nice day, they were usually out playing in the pasture. Maybe they were all waiting for word on Dolci, he knew he should get up and take her back to let them know everything was alright but he was just feeling to lazy, eventually he would. He couldn't keep them in suspense for much longer and he didn't want any of them going off on their own to search.

"Well what would yooouu~uu name a bluebird that sings? Songy?" Giggling, Dolci flopped over onto her side, crossing her front legs together right at the hoof. Songy wasn't actually such a bad name, to be honest....
With the sun steadily rising in the sky, the warmth around them grew palpably. It made the lazy feeling of I should get up and let everyone know we're okay but... so comfy here in the shade... grow tenfold. Though Dolci knew she would eventually have to get up (after all, while fruit for breakfast was okay, fruit for breakfast AND lunch? umm, no), it wasn't a dire need at the moment. The sun was successfully zapping her of her usually over-abundant energy.
"It's nice here," she announced randomly. "But it's getting hot..."

"It is getting hot, perhaps we should go back with the others and I probably would've told the bird to go away." Yuuki pushed himself back up onto all fours, shaking his tail out to get rid of a few blades of grass before he moved to the side to give her room to stand.
"It's time for you to go get your many apologies anyway." He kicked at the ground absently, stretching his legs out one at a time before starting to trot around her, trying to wake himself up a bit more and get his brain working so he could explain the happenings of the other night to the other ponies.

As soon as Yuuki started to move, Dolci decided that... well... suppose she ought to as well. She didn't particularly feel like it, but there wasn't much of a choice. Either she got up now, or laid in the shade all by herself while the darker pony trotted off to regale everyone in the story of their escape from the forest. And if she wasn't present to show that yes, she really was okay? It might cause some panicked fretting and she didn't want to cause anymore of that.
Stretching herself out as fully as she could for a moment, giving her muscles one final stretch, before climbing up onto her hooves. She gave her entire body a little wiggle, ruffling her mane and swishing her tail, before she nodded once to Yuuki.
"Okay, I guess we should. I don't want anyone to worry more."
But seemingly in the blink of an eye, Dolci was off running. Darting through the grass with her head lowered and her long mane streaming behind her. With the biggest, silliest grin and screeching at the top of her lungs.
"USAGI!! DIZZY!! YOU GUYS, I'M OKAY~!!"

Yuuki blinked as he watched her run off and that was fine with him, perhaps by the time he caught up with her she would have told the whole story to everyone, saving him from having to tell it.
He trotted lazily behind her, side stepping a few pieces of fruit here and there, she was pretty fast and just pretty. He'd never really noticed her before, maybe because he was always trying to stay clear of the other ponies, or maybe because the other ponies were to afraid to talk to him, he had noticed her now though. Her personality was very bubbly and energetic, the exact opposite of his but he didn't mind much and what is that saying.. "Opposites attract." He mumbled quietly before starting to walk faster to try and catch up with her.
"Slow down before you fall in another hole!"

"I won't fall in a hole!!" Never again! While Dolci was running as quickly as she could, she was more observant now than she ever had been. She hopped over a rock in her path, and side stepped around a fallen twig so she didn't trip on it -- definitely, she'd learned her lesson the first time.
In another moment, she was closing in on the populated areas of the pasture. Calling out again, "Hey!! IS ANYONE THERE!? It's Dolci!", and this time, she was met with a thundering trample of hooves on the ground and lots of excited and surprised cries.
"Dolci! You're okay!"
"Where WERE you!?"
"We were so worried about you, what happened last night?"
"I'm so glad to see you! I thought you got lost after our game!"
And with that, she began to blabber off a long string of quick sentences, explaining everything to the ponies around her...

The next morning, Dolci woke up in the lap of luxury. Peophynnia had made a bed for her out of soft grasses and a knitted blanket and she'd slept like a log. She'd been showered with apologies, and as she had expected, Dizzy shared a lovely golden chain with her as a peace offering.. that she'd slid over her head and hadn't taken off. Usagi had fretted over her all evening, shoving apple pie and sweet ice cream at her in an attempt to make up for leaving her in the forest -- an apology Dolci was more than willing to accept!
But she hadn't seen Yuuki since she'd gone off running the morning before. With all the commotion around her, and having to re-tell her story a hundred times to everyone that was curious, she hadn't seen where he went or who he was talking to (if he was, that is), and when Peophynnia had ushered her off... well... Dolci was so worn out from everything going on that she'd promptly passed out in the bed made for her.
It was quiet when Dolci opened her eyes. Quiet and still and almost light out. The sun was just peeking over the horizon, but she was wide awake.
Not long after she'd crept from the cushiony bed, she set to work in Peophynnia's well-stocked pantry. Sugar, flour, butter, cream, eggs, strawberries... there was everything and anything she could have imagined to find. Gathering the ingredients, and trying her best not to make a horrible mess, Dolci baked, and then packed, a special sweet treat.
Holding the little paper package in her mouth, she nudged the small door open and slipped outside without waking Peophynnia, or anyone else for that matter. And she trotted off outside, searching for dark fur and bright goldfish in the hazy morning twilight.

After he new Dolci was alright, Yuuki slipped away from the crowd of ponies, everyone was happy that she was safe and sound and that was good enough for him, so instead of making conversation which he really didn't feel up to doing, he slinked off to finish out the rest of the day and night keeping watch under the trees.
He had slept for a good portion of the night, he was still pretty drained from the previous events so when he finally did open his eyes, the sun was just starting to come up.
He stretched slightly, lifting himself off of the ground. Now would be a good time to head down to the lake for a quick dip and a drink of water and as he started to trot off, he caught a glimpse of pink in the corner of his eye, a color of pink that he had become very familiar with in the past few days.
He turned his direction and started to walk toward her, talking quietly. "Good morning." He offered a smile, ducking his head down to nuzzle the side of her neck gently, his tail waving from side to side lazily.

Ah! And then, suddenly, there he was! Even though the sun was just coming up, it was still relatively dark in the pasture. The forest outside looked dark and ominous, and the moon was still in the opposite side of the sky, and Yuuki... was really, really hard to spot! It almost looked like goldfish and two bright yellow eyes were hovering beside her, but the closer he came, the more she could see Yuuki's dark pelt and swishing tail.
"Gnngh mrnngffng!" She answered, around her tight bite on the top of the paper package. Her smile was wide and encompassed most of her face, though she was smiling around the paper bag. While she paused a moment to lean her head towards him and return his nuzzling gently, she quickly bent down to set the bag on the grass.
"Good morning!" she repeated, in more articulated speech. "I brought you breakfast."
Tugging the paper back a bit and tearing at it with her teeth, she nudged the package open. Proudly revealing two perfect, homemade shortcakes, covered with strawberries and dotted with a swirl of whipped cream.
"Are you hungry?"

Yuuki eyed the shortcakes, they looked good and he was hungry. He found it a little odd to be having something that was usually a dessert for breakfast, but he figured she'd put a lot of work into making them, so he would eat it happily.
"They look delicious, you made them yourself?" He watched her absently, wondering how she could already have so much energy this early in the morning, ducking his head down to pluck one of the strawberries off of the cakes, chewing on it slowly. It was sweet, but very good and he couldn't help himself from taking another bite and then another and another until he realized he had eaten the whole cake.
A little embarrassed, he took a step back, keeping his gaze on the ground. "I'm sorry, I guess I was hungrier then I thought."

Dolci seemed to wake up with the energy of fifteen ponies combined! She was like a living, walking, breathing sugar rush on four legs. Whether it was because of the sweet dessert Seraphim had modeled her after, or if it was just her young nature was hard to tell. But perhaps her sweet disposition, coupled with her intense sweet tooth, and the decadent dessert that served as her coloring's inspiration... well... how could she not be chalk full of excitable energy all the time?
"I did!" she exclaimed happily, twitching her tail back and forth behind her. "It's a recipe Peophynnia taught me, shortcakes are the only thing I can make by memory."
She watched Yuuki as he gobbled up the shortcake and she smiled proudly, leaning down only once he was finished to pinch a leftover strawberry between her teeth, nibbling on it. Tasted pretty good!
"It's okay, you eat." Nodding, she nudged the little paper package towards him, with the second shortcake tucked inside -- all while completely covering the end of her nose with whipped cream. "I made them for you."
