"Fine," he croaked. Damian was still reclined, still hooked up to IV fluids and machines to monitor his healing. If the hospital managed to let Damian Centurion slip by, it would be terrible for their reputation, after all. "Just fine..." Being able to speak gave him a little charge in this healing process. At least now he could communicate with Raquel, maybe even kiss her. That small contact was enough to get him through an entire day.

Raquel knew the first thing she wanted to do now that the tube was gone. She gently took his face in her hands and kissed him so gingerly. After a moment, she pulled back, eyes closed and smiling sweetly. "I'm glad...just so glad..." She pressed her forehead to his and just looked down at him. He was on this way to feeling better.

Damian had been so humbled by this whole experience that her sweet, innocent kiss brought a blush to his cheeks. All he needed was for a nurse to come in and see them together, and he knew there would be a story about sweet hearts in the hospital in the next paper.
But what did they matter? They didn't. It was only them, and the days he needed to get better enough to leave, and the weeks to get truly back to normal. "I love you," he whispered. "I'm so sore and would hug you, but... I'm sorry. But I love you."
His body was still spread out on the bed, though now he could move his hands a bit more freely, along with his neck and head. He couldn't walk to save his life, let alone sit up for a good amount of time, but Damian would try smaller things, just to bring Raquel some peace of mind.

"It's ok, it's ok..." She whispered to him, pressing her cheek to his, just so thankful she could at least some what hold him again. "I love you so much... We're getting through this... it's just a matter of time and you'll be out of here... And I promise...I'll be here with you until your well enough to come home..." She just loved his skin against hers as she pressed her hands and face, gingerly onto his. He was still a bit cruised so she didn't want to smother or hurt him. It was just so nice to hear his voice aloud again.

"Darling..." he said, tugging away just a little, because he was so tender all over, especially his battered face. He had a nice black eye, but was thankful he had managed to keep all his teeth. Little wonders, Damian thought, as he pecked her on the nose. "I'm afraid you'll have to love me from a little distance."

Raquel pulled back quickly, biting her lip. "I-i'm sorry love..." she took a seat next to him. "I'll be careful....Sorry..." She gave him a guilty but apologetic smile as she touched the side of his bed, afraid of hurting him any more.

"No, it's alright." His voice came out in a slight rasp, fixed by a rather phlegmy sounding cough. Damian could only smile to her as if everything was alright, and nothing to worry about. "So... Nat was here?" Damian said for the sake of changing the subject. How he was there, he had no idea, but to hear the story would be interesting.

Raquel rested her hand near his, still careful not to hurt him. "Ah, yes.... He said he was going to speak to me at the festival but we left before he could. He was walking back to work, when the ambulance with you and I in it came here. He thought nothing of it at first, until he heard some gossip in the Bar about a break in on the Upper East side. He knew thats probably where you lived, as well as myself, and asked who's home it was. When word got out it was Damian Centurion who had been attacked, he immediately rushed to the hospital to see if I- you...see if you were alright..."
She wanted Damian to like Nat so much. He was like the only family she had before joining this little one. Of course he was worried about Raquel's well being, that was always a given. She just wanted Damian to know he knew where they all stood relationship wise and wouldn't try anything.
"He stayed and waited with me while you were in surgery...God I was so scared..." She shook her head, looking down. "It was the first time since I met you...That I felt so utterly alone. I thought I had lost you... Nat came in the nick of time. He helped me through it..." She kept her eyes closed, those few hours being torture for her. All Nat did was sit there, arms open with hushed 'he'll be ok, dont worry's and soft pets. "He's also the one who gave me ride back home. Everything was mostly cleaned up. Nat managed to save my ring before the droids swept it up..." She looked down and twisted the ring lovingly on her finger.

Damian listened intently to her story, noting the worry that showed through her eyes. He felt a pang of guilt because he had put it there, being brave for her sake when there had probably been a much easier solution at hand other than him being beaten to a pulp. "When will he come back? I'll have to find a way to thank him." Because Nat was a good man, Damian thought. He had helped Raquel in so many ways, and deserved something good for his kindness. But what?
"Is there something he desperately needs?" he asked aloud.

Raquel looked up to Damian, smiling distantly as her eyes dettererd in thought. "Nat is a lot like me in that he thrives off music. It's all he needs...i've known Nat since he was homeless... He's really turned his life around since Lou from the bar sort of took him under his wing and picked him up and put him on his feet..." She smiled shaking her head. "That and Natty won't take help from anyone...he's a lot like me there as well... Though... all he needs is to feel loved... call it cliche but it's true..." her eyes saddened and fell as she sighed. "He was happy with me, but restricted. We were too young for love...." a lot of happy and sad memories flashed across her face. "He had hoped I'd still be the baby girl he left years ago, and we could pick back up..." She shrugged, closing her eyes and sighing again.

"So there is nothing I can do." If letting Raquel be his 'baby girl' was the only way to really pick Nat back up and into the world of true happiness again, to hell with his needs. Damian wouldn't let him be with Raquel like that, regardless of the fact that Raquel wouldn't do anything of the sort anyway.
But, Damian did like Nat, in some kind of way, and was sure that if something came up, Raquel would say something. "What about you? What do you need right now?"

Raquel sighed deeply, hunching her back over, rubbing her tired face with ehr small hands. "You to get better..." She mumbled with a slight pop of her back and a tired smile up at him. "But until then... I'm fine. I'm not the one hospitalized...what do you need?" She asked, cocking her head, wanting to do somehting for her bed ridden fiancee.

"Food," was his immediate response. Damian hadn't really eaten anything solid in days, and had been denied even jello when the tube came out for fear the slight gagging he had made would mean he couldn't settle his stomach down. Now, though, he was sure he was alright and wanted something desperately.
However, his concern for Raquel was always going to override his own wants. "And for you to smile. You really should sleep if you're so tired, dear."

Raquel smiled, shaking her head. "I'm fine. I couldn't sleep if I wanted to anyways..." She sighed, standing. "Though food, I can check on...I'll be right back." She stood, touching his head sweetly before taking off to find a nurse to request solid food for Damian.
She returned a minute or so later, with a small cup of red gelatin. "they said they don't know how well you'll be able to stomach anything, but said I could help you give it a try." She smiled apologetically, pulling her chair closer to him. "Aw~ I get to feed you like a baby!" She exclaimed, trying to get him to smile.

"Well, I suppose I am your baby," Damian said, smiling just as she wanted him to. The red gelatin did look good, and he hoped it was cherry or strawberry. Far be it from him to be picky in a time when he was thankful to just be alive. "If my elbows weren't so sore I'd just do it myself. What about you, you should be eating as well..."
