HATCHING!

The humming of dragons vibrated around the Weyr. Such a sound was more than enough to get a Weyr inhabitants moving as the corridors began to fill with riders and non-riders hurrying to see what the newest clutch of eggs would bring to the Weyr. Among those was Ephia, the Sr. Weyrwoman of Rias. This clutch had been generous enough to hatch at a fairly decent time of day. The midday sun had just begun to fall from it's peak in the sky when the dragon's voices began to fill the Weyr's caverns. Not caring to wait for the Weyrleader, whom Ephia didn't get along with very well anyway, the Weyrwoman quickly unplaited her hair, stacked the hides she had been looking at on her desk and hurried from her Weyr. Without M'xan and Enelth's aid, getting to the sands would take more time than usual. Ariath was situated in the hatching grounds watching over her brood and wasn't about to leave.
Taking the steps from the Weyr as fast as she could, Ephia managed to make it to the hatching grounds at a fairly reasonable speed. The humming had intensified as dragons began to cluster on the ledges around the sands. People of all sorts had filled the large cavern, all eyes upon the eggs that littered the hot sands. The candidates had already been lined up by the time Ephia managed to make it to the hatching grounds quite out of breath. She took a seat upon the first row as close to Ariath as possible. The small queen looked to her rider and crooned softly causing the dark-haired woman to smile affectionately. "It's a lovely clutch Ariath. I am sure many strong dragons will come from it."
Eyes glazed over the candidates who circled along the sands. Some looked nervous, other's anxious, while a few looked downright confident. Ephia shook her head. She knew what it was like, as did all the other riders among her. Standing upon those sands wasn't the easiest of things to do.
Just as that thought slipped through her mind an egg jostled, causing a small gasp to rise up from the audience. People watched carefully as the egg moved and jostled about but all were surprised when an egg unnoticed on the side hatched first revealing a brown dragonet. The brown tumbled from his egg, sand grains stuck to his wet hide as he righted himself. Once situated and able to take a good look at the candidates, the brown ambled over to a candidate. The smile of the candidates face was bright as the dragonet let the candidate know his name. (Ice_Dragon_Demon's custom brown)
From the rocking egg a rather large bronze hatched. The tiny dragon had been watching as the brown made his choice as the bronze contemplated his own. He moved between two boys as if unsure which he wanted before finally choosing. The bronze sat himself down in front of boy to his left and the two bonded. (Endejester's bronze custom)
Next to hatch was a tiny green. She was certainly smaller than her brothers who were now being escorted from the sands with their new life mates. Unlike her brother's though she knew who she wanted and ran off to her chosen candidate. (This was a custom green by the name of Soneth. I lost information so I don't remember who ordered this dragonet. Could the owner PM me. And yes, I'll remember who it was when I see their name so no one try to snatch her away.)
Two eggs sitting next to one another were the next two to hatch. From the shells tumbled a green and a blue dragonet. The brother and sister paid no attention to each other as both were in tune with whom they wanted as their life mates. The pale blue dragonet had little trouble choosing who he wanted. He hurried over to a young girl or…was it a boy? Ephia couldn't tell from where she was at. The dragonet nearly bowled over the candidate but managed to refrain from doing so and the two bonded. (Freodwyn's blue)
The little green girl who hatched alongside the blue had a bit of trouble choosing. She sat teetering between two candidates, a girl and a boy for quite sometime. Only to be upstaged by another green who had hatched while eyes were on the other. This new green darker than her sister who she sat next to chose a boy just off to the side of her. She rubbed her massive head against his chest before the newly bonded left the sands (Leikkun's green)
The little green only paid her sister a glance before she finally decided upon her bonded. She stumbled to the girl she had been pondering over, nearly falling into the young candidate. (Tisiphone's green)
Next to hatch was another bronze which was much brighter in hue than the first. The bronze burst from his egg with such exuberance that pieces of shell scattered quite a distance from it's initial spot. This dragonet had quite a bit of energy as he made his way across the sands with a little less grace than some of his green sisters. He managed to get himself to where he was going though and stopped in front of another young boy. (Edit's Bronze)
Another blue managed to hatch from his shell just as the bronze chose his bonded and on the other side of the sands a second blue hatched. Their hides were of strongly different shades but these two dragonets knew what they were doing. They scurried across the sands as fast as they could. The splotchy blue male found himself in front of one of the eldest candidates while the brighter blue found himself in front of a young girl. The two bonded simultaneously. (Bane's Blue) (Kachie Kat's blue)
Another brown hatched from it's egg. The dragon moved across the sands slowly, eyeing up the candidates in front of him. Whirling blue eyes passed from one candidate to another unsure. For a moment it almost seemed as if he wouldn't chose anyone until finally his eyes fell upon a young girl. He scurried to her as fast as his new legs would allow him and happily bonded with his new rider. (Tormented Angie's brown)
The hatching continued until finally every new dragonet had found it's rider. The candidates left on the sands were escorted from hatching grounds so they could get out of their white robes and thin sandles as the onlookers began talking excitedly about the hatching events.
Ephia slipped down onto the sands. She moved gingerly past the egg shards and to Ariath. The Weyrwoman smiled at the queen as the golden beast lowered her head. Obligingly, Ephia scratched an eye ridge as the queen crooned softly.
It appeared Rias Weyr would soon have another strong set of wings in the sky.

AT THE HATCHING...

N'tren hurried to get a good seat at the Hatching Ground. As a rider, he thought back to the day he managed to Impress Datiath on the hot hatching sands. Covering his eyes, he looked at the Clutch that was rock hard below him. It was much larger than his had been but that did not matter because his perfect mate had been there.

I knew you were mine when I saw you. No other was for me. Datiath broke through the emotional thoughts of his beloved.

The humming was intense now as many of the eggs began to rock back and forth. He had wagered half a mark that a particularly large egg was a a bronze and would hatch first. It was tradition to put your money where your mouth was... And speaking of mouths, his was watering at the thought of the roasts he had helped to season and put in the hearth. You are the only one for me, Dattie.

The sounds and excitement was almost too much to bear as a little brown upstaged the large egg to burst forth and find his life's partner. Tears streamed down N'tren's cheeks as he relived the moment Datiath chose him over all the others on the sands. The little fellow went straight towards a smith girl that had been on the sands last time. Cheering loudly with the others in the crowd, N'tren blinked blindly.

The dragon always knows. The soft voice reminded his rider.

Nodding to himself, N'tren stood up and started to leave the stands. He had seen most of the eggs hatch and now he wanted to get down to the kitchens and feed his belly before the newly Impressed and their dragons got to the best meats.

ROAD TO SOUTH: An RP by EvilSilverDragon and Naree

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten stays away from men; she had great reasons to do so. For the most part, she avoids everyone; just men were a bigger worry. This time she had to talk to a group of them, trading was necessary. At first, it seemed perfectly harmless; she did the trading and was on her way further South. The group of men left in the north direction.

She thought nothing of it until she happened to look around and noticed Gem wasn't there. Reaching out to her mentally, she tried calling her baby but she wasn't responding. After thinking about it, she realized she had just been playing with her before meeting the group.

Narrowing her hazel eyes, she turned her runner and tore after them to get her gold back. It took her a good hour to find them, her location mattered not a lick.

The sun, high in the sky seemed to finally have stopped them; they were busy at a water source. Their wagon was sitting to the side with the team of four heard beast grazing unhitched. As her eyes scanned further, she decided it was safe enough. Getting off of the runnerbeast, a pat on its velvety nose before she got ready for a rescue.

Creaping forward, each foot step landing lightly on the dusty ground. Paying no mind to the dust that dirtied the hem of her long dress, her full attention getting Gem.

Gem woke up, her world spinning, she remembered treats then darkness. With a shining opening, the gold took her chance out. Her flight was unsteady, dropping and rising, her eyes wurling in distress. To her relief, she spotted Caleten and, without realizing the danger, trilled with delight as she flew to her friend's arms for protection and comfort.

Caleten mentally cursed, 'Shards!' and she held the pained and confused gold close to her as the captors turned their attentions to her. Now, she didn't know how many of them she could take, but she knew how many of them they would use, all six of them. Taking the odds, she turned and ran, going for the runnerbeast that she shouldn't have left so far away.

The men caught her, one guy grabbing her by the hair. With a spilt second to react, she threw her gold into the air before turning to take her battle. She got that had her hair, a swift punch to the glass jaw of the creep had him out. The other five had her surrounded, taking a deep breath, she briefly wondered how in the world she was going to get out of this one.

Still, the brave holdless survivor she was, she got into a fighting stance. There wasn't a look of fright on her face, just hard determination.

Gem fluttered into the sky, feeling her friend's distress. With no idea what else to, she sent out the image to anyone close enough to get it, hoping there were more flits or a bigger cousin around that could do something to help.

Neither knew it, but they were nothing but a three hours riding from the south hold.

Naree
N'tren and Datiath had taken the extra time given to them between Threadfall and classes to fly home. It had been a pleasant visit with the stunning news that he was now an uncle. Yet, every time he visited it seemed that those who were blood to him were more distant than those who in the Weyr with him. It hurt him deep inside as the realization was finally coming to head that his family would never be his family again.

I am yours. Datiath crooned softly. I would be not without you.

"I know, my love. And I am nothing without you. Yet, I was with them for ten and four turns. That should mean something but slowly it means nothing." The teen sounded depressed.

Do you want to go to the cove? The bronze asked softly.

N'tren sighed. The last time they had been at the cove was with Caleten. It had been a great time but a sad time as well. Splotch suddenly perked up from his position wrapped around N'tren neck and chirped excitedly.

"What's going on?" N'tren tried to make out the images being sent by his little bronze. Looking around, he noticed a familiar gold in the sky. "Gem?" He spoke outloud.

Splotch fluttered from his Impressed's shoulder and went to meet his friend. Datiath tried to get Gem to calm down and made his way through her images. Something is wrong with Caleten. She is near. Tell her little one, help is here.

Datiath roared and dove down, causing N'tren to grip his saddle tightly. "What are we doing?"

Helping Caleten. We must hurry! I am coming, Caleten!

EvilSilverDragon
Gem calmed and at the same time got more excited, friends were here! Chirping excitedly, she sent strong images right to Datiath and Splotch. She dived down and back up making sure it was clear where the trouble was.

Caleten did not get the images from Gem about N'tren and Datiath being close, she was focusing on the fight. As the dust was kicked up by her attacker's movements, she remained still, looking for the weak link.

Finally, two of them lunged at her. One was overweight and smelt worse then a runnerbeast's rear end, stupidly, he wore lose clothing and a bandana around his neck. Both clothing choices made easy grabbing. The other was dressed like he had some wealth, stole most likely, and had clearly bathed just a little while before. The wind could only pick up a few strained of his jet black hair, the rest slick to his head drenched still with water.

Staying where her back wasn't facing the other three men was harder, they were moving around her in a close circle like dogs surrounding a fight over a kill waiting for the alphas to take what they wanted first. Still, she tried to keep moving and attack the ones in front of her. The moment she grabbed the bandana to pull the guy off balance, she hear the roar and the familiar voice in her head. Pride spoke for her as she responded, 'I am okay, don't worry about me.'

The second after that message, she was struggling to keep balance as the other guy punched her right in the face. Unlike glass jaw, she could take a hit and didn't fall. Shaking her head, she vaguely wondered if they would run when they finally saw the dragon or still try to put up a fight.

Her arm did get grabbed and held behind her back painfully, but she didn't so much as whimper, which seemed to tick them off more. It always does, she thought to herself with some satisfaction derived from it.

Naree
"Is she okay?" N'tren screamed to his bronze. Splotch was now very agitated by Gem and by her state of mind. Eyes whirling with red, the little bronze went /between/ and appeared by Caleten's side. Claws out, the young one tried to scratch at his friend's attackers.

I worry! I am coming! Datiath sent back. He could feel her pain though not like Gem. With anger and hurt coming from human and flit, it practically pushed the bronze over the edge. Eyes whirling red, Datiath swooped low, hoping to startle the attackers.

"What are you doing? Datiath! Listen to me!" N'tren struggled to get his bronze under control. The teen swore violently and pulled out his belt knife. He could not really do any harm to them unless they had seriously hurt Caleten. He was not close enough to get to the ground but maybe having the bronze flying overhead did something to startle the bandits. Scared that they would hurt her, N'tren let Datiath have most of the control.

NO ONE HURTS MY FRIENDS! Datiath shouted fiercely to N'tren and Caleten. Roaring again, he swooped with claws low and close to the ground.

Tangled up in his saddle and straps, N'tren began to try and cut the leather so he could jump when they got close to the ground. His stomach was knotted as he realized that Caleten was family to him and family needed to be protected.

Splotch went for the one who had grabbed the girl that was friend. A little flame escaped as his claws raked the back of the man. He chirped fiercely and proudly that he was defending his. Calling for Gem, he encouraged her to attack as well.

EvilSilverDragon
Frankly, Datiath was one of the scariest things she had ever seen in that moment as he came out roaring. As much as she was impressed, it appeared her would be assailants were worse. All but the one that had her by the arm ran screaming.

Her attention, that foolishly left the man on her arm, was brought back as he pulled painfully on her arm, obviously shaking and trying to bat off the flit attacking him. He shouted to call off the 'flying rodents' or he'd kill her.

Caleten, on the other hand, would not be a bargaining chip and brought the back of her skull to impact the front of his. Tugging, she struggled to get free. To help encourage him to drop his hold, she brought the back of her foot to swiftly contact the groin of the man.

Gem came when she was called, by Splotch and Caleten. She fiercely clawed and bit the man's ear as hard as she could, cutting straight though.

Having enough, the man pushed Caleten away and she landed on the ground hard. Rolling, she was swiftly on her feet and watching the man closely as he tried to figure out if he wanted to fight, or run. Not a hard thing to decide when there was something big enough to eat him and two tiny ones doing their best to do the same. Running past Caleten, the man flapped wildly to try and dislodge the flits. He looked absurdly like he was trying to fly by the way he was flapping his arms.

With time to breath, Caleten touched her cheek, knowing it was bruised and only moved her arm enough to know it was still attached and would listen to her. Besides a sore chest from where she fell, the only other injury was a bruised pride. "I am fine, leave him alone, he learned a lesson he won't soon forget." She really hated that her battle was fought for her and called her flit back to her.

Gem came, curling against Caleten's neck, latched on to her shirt. Crooning, she sought reassure and tried to give it at the same time.

Naree
Splotch hesitated when Caleten spoke to him. Chirping at Gem, he noticed her calming and decided to try and settle. Fluttering around, the little bronze tried to land on her shoulder or her head or anything that was available.

Datiath fly low after the men one last time before turning around flying back to Caleten. The clearing was large enough for him to land in. He had grown in the past month or so, so his size was most impressive. The bronze was still not the largest of his clutch but he was lean and fast.

Are you okay? He ducked his head down low to Caleten, eyes tinged yellow with anxiety. I chased them for you.

N'tren cursed as he finally managed to get free of his saddle and straps. Though he would now have to make a new pair of straps. But it was worth it to see Caleten safe and sound, if not a little worse for wear. Dismounting from Datiath, the young rider kept his belt knife out just in case.

"Is everything alright? They didn't hurt you too bad did they? Do you want us to find them for you?" A rush of questions came sputtering from his mouth. Splotch, relieved to see his owner, came and settled in N'tren shoulder. His little chest was puffed out and he chittered about how brave he was and how he chased them all away.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten offered her other shoulder to Splotch when he looked for somewhere to land. Her own nerves were just settling when she watched Datiath land.

He was impressive, and word would undoubtedly spread that she had a dragonrider on her side. There was a great chance that people would be less likely to try and harm her because of it. Nodding, she told him, 'I am fine, and surprised the men didn't faint when you came down. Thank you' She could easily say that to him, it would be N'tren that is the problem. Why thank a man when it was a man’s fault in the beginning?

Looking to N'tren she said, her head held high hoping the bruise didn't detract from the tough image she was trying to hold together. After all, she was not some weakling female needing a big strong man to protect her. "I am fine; they weren't strong enough to do too much damage to me."

Then she shook her head and spoke before she really thought about it, "Its not worth the time, they could be any man out here for how they behave, you can't fight them all." Neither could she for that matter but it wouldn't stop her. Looking to Splotch, she could see he was proud of himself and told him, "You’re a strong little fighter." Looking around, she made sure she was right and gave her the time to pull off a completely calm look. Finally she asked, "Where were you three headed?" Surely Gem didn't grab them from the weyr.

Gem trilled to Splotch, Datiath and N'tren, a lot less prideful and more then willing to tell them she was grateful for the help.

Naree
Datiath kept his head close to Caleten watching her with faceted eyes. Slowly, they returned to their blue-green color of peace and happiness. Settling himself, he sent a greeting to Gem. We were heading home.

N'tren noticed the bruise but wisely said nothing. After all, it was her choice whether or not to ask for help. Instead, he took in the sight of her there with Gem and waited for her go back to being Caleten.

"I see you handled them quite well. I guess there was no need rush to your rescue. Though Datiath would never let me live it done if we had not come for you." He tried not to sound too put out that he had no hand in Caleten's rescue.

We always help our friends. Datiath said most seriously. We would never leave you.

"I suppose we can't fight them all. But to have bandits on the road so close to South Hold. The Lord Holder should be warned. We were going to stop there so I could eat but if you need a lift any where..."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten brought her hand out and touched Dataith, she didn't smile but did send warm thoughts to the dragon. Smiling was a weakness out in the harsh environment she called home, a luxury at the same time that she could not afford. When Dataith said home, she assumed he meant the weyr so she didn't think much of it.

Glad that he didn't say anything, she put the injury back as nothing. After all it was not the worse she had ever received. Nodding to what N'tren said, she could imagine how it might be frustrating that his dragon and flit did everything while he rode through it. It was probably why it went so well. Problems men caused are not often solved by other men. "I have lived out here with men like them, and even some woman. There is more then one reason why being holdless is not the preferred lifestyle." She liked it though; it was freedom, and loneliness that she had come to accept as protection.

Looking back to the dragon, she could hardly hide her baffled expression. It was very different from the people she encountered out here. Still, she nodded. However, she heard South hold and anything she was thinking, went blank as she spun to look at N'tren. Had she really gotten this close to South Hold? First instant was to run, get as far south as she could, but then, that would make her a coward.

Determination set in as she told him, "They were probably going to South Hold. South Hold was my hold when I was young. I haven't been back since I left." Normally, she didn't tell her past, and she was only giving a bit of it because she wanted help, to finally get rid of that skeleton from her storage room. "It is about time I returned." She'd take his offer to give her a lift.

Naree
Datiath leaned into the small hand and blew warm breath at her, causing her hair and clothing to dance. His closed his eye ridges and sighed. The bronze was happy to be with his friend once more.

N'tren shuddered as Caleten spoke. "You must have learned how to handle yourself early on."

He looked over at his straps and sighed. At least, he could pick up some leather at South Hold. He had a few credits on him. And it was a rider's duty to keep up with his gear and his dragon's gear. Spring green eyes looked away as Caleten started to talk again.

"Your hold? You are from South?" N'tren stopped his his ramble. She had opened up slightly again to him and he did not want to ruin the moment. Datiath looked up when Caleten spoke about returning.

I would be honored to take you.

"The world is yours, Caleten. Datiath and I would take you anywhere you want."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten resisted a chuckle at what Datiath did, and patted his nose. She didn't look at N'tren when he spoke the first time, just nodded. Who would ever hope to survive holdless if you didn't. Besides, she had older bothers and was kicked around all her young life, of course she knew how to handle herself.

When he asked about her hold, she looked to him and corrected, "It was my hold, was being the key word." It was small world, they were both from the same hold, it was possible they even met in their very early life. Though it was doubtful the 'youngest son' was the one that was never allowed out or talked about. One of the reasons she left.

'Thank you, Dataith.' She was glad they would help, with her work; a few demons might just be put to rest. Looking to N'tren she said, "I am asking you to take me to somewhere I never wanted to go to. I may need your help." She didn't elaborate, sure that when the time raised, even a male would know what to do, might even be a natural reaction. Could they really protect her against her family? Probably not, but then they may not even see her family or said family might not recognize her.

Naree
"I can understand was... Datiath and I went back to my father's hold today. It seems that the more we go, the less we belong there. The weyr truly is our home now." N'tren said with a small amount of regret.

You would not change anything? Datiath asked softly.

"Nothing is worth giving you up, Dattie. It's just weird... That's all." N'tren thumped the bronze's leg. Standing back up, he looked over his straps again. "We need to pick up some leather, anyways. I will have to work on new straps; if I don't then Farin will have my hide."

Datiath lifted his head and positioned himself so that Caleten and N'tren could remount. Splotch chirped happily at Gem, glad to have his friends with him and N'tren. He launched himself off of N'tren's shoulders and began to do lazy swirls around them. You ask for help? Datiath spoke in a teasing tone.

"Whatever you need, Datiath and I are yours to command. Mount up. Do you want front or back?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten paid little attention to the conversation she heard. It struck a cord with her, signing a note that harmonized with her view almost perfectly. The only differences in the sound, she was not at home in the weyr. Part of that was her life style, the other part was worry of discovery by parents or someone they might have sent.

She didn't feel a comment was necessary, so she did not waist words. Starting to mount the dragon, she heard his comment and turned to walk over to his large head, patting him she said, 'I do, but not lightly.' She thought with a lightness because she knew he was teasing.

Looking over to N'tren, she was a little baffled, did he really trust her that much? Maybe, just maybe, she should try to put a bit of trust in return. After all no one in his right mind would agree to do what ever she needed them to do without a clue as to what she needed. "For future reference, it is a bad idea to just agree if you do not know what you are agreeing to." Taking a breath, exhaling through her nose she thought about her arm and did not feel comfortable with trusting her life to the injured limb so she answered, "I'll take the front this time." Did she really trust him that much? No, but she was sure she could.

Getting on to the dragon's back, she swollowed a bit, after the rough treatment she always got with males, this was a hard decision. However, it was for the best, not only because of her arm, which she craddled in her lap, but for images sake. Her head was still held high, pride being her strenght.

Gem joined Splotch in the air flying around with him, trilling and dancing with her aerial skills.

Naree
N'tren fought the urge to sigh and make anymore comments about his own current confusion. He would be no help to Caleten if he could not focus on the task at hand; whatever that task was to be...

Instead, he waited for the girl to mount up on Datiath and get settled. He did not offer his help for by now he knew that she would not take it. Instead, he stood there patient and quiet until she was ready. His only acknowledgement to her taking the front was to nod and move closer to his bronze. He frowned when she thought to admonish him and spoke like a rider for a moment. "A rider is only as good as his word. And since I have met you, I have done nothing but give you the good of my word. I am not going to take it back now."

Datiath tried to look back at Caleten. I think you hurt his feelings. He trusts you as you might trust me.

Nothing saying another word, N'tren climbed up and settled behind Caleten. He really did not want to let her ride loose but did not want to set her off either. Thinking quietly to Datiath, the rider asked for help. Datiath?

Eyes whirling in amusement, the bronze spoke to his friend. N'tren wants to know where to place his hands but is worried that the question may bother you.

Splotch sensed the change in N'tren attitude and came down trying to land on Caleten. He chirped quickly at her before chirping even quicker at N'tren. He could not understand where all the fun had gone.

EvilSilverDragon
When she was completely ready she looked back to him and said, "I know you wouldn't, I am just making sure you know it is unwise to make a habit of it." As much as it may sound like she was correct the behavior, she really was doing it out of concern for him. If he always did that, someone was going to take advantage of him. Men might deserve it, but she didn't think he did.

Giving a mental sigh she told Datiath, 'You don't realize just how hard this is, he may not realize it, but I do trust him, for no other reason would I allow a male to so much as touch me. I also wouldn't turn to him for help if I didn't trust him.'

She heard Datiath's relay of what N'tren wanted to know. It did say something that he was concerned about how she would take it. Rather then answer the dragon and use him as a go between she says, "Its alright, N'tren." Her tone was softer then anything she had used with him in the past. Her attention then taken by Splotch and Gem. Her gold had taken a perch on N'tren's shoulder and she offered her own to the little bronze. Painfully, she move her hair to fall over the hurt shoulder so he had a clear landing that would not harm her.

"Caleten, you are the only person I have ever given my word to since becoming a rider. And that is quickly approaching two turns. Though I am only sixteen turns, a babe in most people eyes, I do have some experience to go on."

N'tren settled and checked the few straps and buckles that remained. His green eyes had been somber for a moment before they began to dance merrily again. "But I appreciate the concern. Thank you."

Datiath gave a few flaps of his wings. It is good to trust someone, yes? We will go /between/. You will barely catch a breath.

N'tren's nodded at Caleten's approval. Lightly, he placed his hands around her waist so as to be prepared to catch her just in case. He did not say what just in case might entail because the stubborn woman might insist on walking to South. Instead, he gave Datiath a little kick and settled with Gem on his shoulder.

Between. He told Datiath.

With a few wingbeats, the great bronze was up in the air and ready to take off. He hovered only for a moment before moving towards South Hold. N'tren had sent a strong image of who the Hold dragon was and what the hold itself looked like... Now that they were allowed to go /between/, the young rider took no chances about being caught up in the darkness.

"Hold on and try not to scream." N'tren shouted. And in less than a breath, Datiath had taken them /between/ with South Hold in mind.

Caleten didn't say it out loud, but she was thinking that if he said so, then she hoped he was right. You learn a lot about how rotten men and some woman can be when holdless, how much they can take advantage of others who are more honorable.

Only a nod of her head came as answer when he thanked her, she let a small smile slip through but it was gone a few moments later. She heard Datiath and got a bit excited at the idea of going /between/ everything she never thought she would get the chance to do was done with them. Answering the dragon she says, 'Its harder then anyone could imagine. Trusting a luxury I never thought I could afford.' Did she just think she trusted N'tren? Well, she kinda had to, he trusted her to help her without knowing what it was she needed him to do. Just maybe, she had some trust for him before he showed it in her.

Her stomach tightened when she felt his hands on her, but with a breath, she relaxed. Looking around at the view, her attention taken back by N'tren telling her to try not to scream. She had just enough time to start to form a thought about how observed that was, until the impossible darkness and coldness engulfed her. Holding on to what she could, not even able to scream, or think for that matter. Was N'tren and Datiath still there, she wondered because it felt like she couldn't feel anything.

Black, blacker, blackest...

/Between/ was the ultimate lack of everything. N'tren had managed not to panic like so many others on his first time going into the blackness. But he had seen others who did not take to disappearing into nothingness so well.

Suddenly, they were coming out about South Hold in the brilliant sunlight and lightly forested area. N'tren let out the breath he had been holding and gave himself a little shake.

That went well. Are you okay? Datiath asked Caleten. I am Datiath. He told the dragon on watch at South. They started to turn so that they could land at the hold.

"I never get over that. The nothingness... But we are here and we are safe." N'tren nodded to Caleten even though she couldn't see his actions.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten shook a bit, using her arms, even the one that was hurt to try and warm her arms a moment before putting them down and calming herself on the outside. She answered Datiath, 'I don't think anything you could have said could have prepared me for that.'

One edge of pride, she didn't scream, even if it was because she couldn't, she still didn't. Caleten looked at the runnerbeast on the far end of the Hold and answered, "Safe is a matter of opinion." Her heart thumped in her chest. She was back where she started, it would probably be a matter of time before her mother found her and started to berate her.

Then again, there is a chance no one will reconize her, it had be years and she was scard now where as when she left, she was not.

Gem's eyes whirld and she clung tighter to N'tren, reacting to Caleten's anxitiy.

Nothing prepares you for /between/. It just happens. Datiath replied to Caleten. Splotch shivvered and buried his head into Caleten's hair.

N'tren looked over the courtyard as they came in for a landing. "Courtyard or Heights? Where do we need to be?"

He held her loosely as the moved in closer to the Hold. The young bronze rider frowned at Caleten's statement. "What do you mean, matter of opinion? Would someone hurt you here?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten rased one hand to stroke the bronze on her shoulder, wishing she felt free enough to try any hide against someone. That was foolhardy though, she was far too many turns and too hardened to turn and hide. Its better to face life head on, as she had learned. Feeling the air hit her face, she could also pick up a few scents that were uniquely South Hold, smells that when she picked it up other places, she would turn and go another direction.

Hearing his first question, and assuming it was sent to her, she says, "Where ever you need to be, I don't care much myself." It wasn't like she was going to seek out her childhood home after all, and there is no where in that hold she felt safe.

To his next statement, she had to mill over what she wanted to say to him, just how much more she would open up. "Yes, I think they will try, probably nothing more the verbal abuse they spewed at me my whole life, though seeing me with you might curve that, being Hold people whose livelihood is out doors, reverence for dragonriders is high. If they try anything physical, which I doubt, I could take on my own father and come out a winner." She could fight her own battles, she was strong, but even she knew she needed back up, and a show of support, even if she was going to be the one to call insult.

At the worst, she expected they demand she pay for what she stole, maybe even try to take her back, but she was old enough now to reject and leave on her own, hold rules be fed to the weyr watchers.

Gem hissed at the memories she picked up from Caleten.

The bronze continued to shivver into Caleten's hair, practically making Caleten vibrate. He was picking up on Caleten and Gem's distress and being a young and silly bronze did not know what to do about it.

Calm, little brother. Datiath told the flit sternly. Splotch chirped sadly and tried to still himself.

Datiath landed lightly on the Heights. It would give them all a chance to settle their nerves as they climbed down to the main part of the hold. The sun was quite bright and beat down on their backs. N'tren was glad he had worn his light riding clothes. Datiath looked down at the both of them.

His eyes were tinged with the yellow of worry even though the main part stayed green. I shall be waiting. Just call for me if you need me.

N'tren let go of Caleten and waited for her to dismount. So as not to seem cold and callous, he responded. "If they treated you as such, it's because they realized that you were better than they. And no one is going to hurt you while you have Datiath and me."

He purposely put Datiath before himself. "Are you ready?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten continued to pet the bronze even when he was working on stilling himself. In away, she felt better working on calming someone else. The sun was normally calming for the young woman, and it did a deal for her now. Over the turns, she had gotten a level of used to the heat on her heavy choice of clothing, though that level wasn't past discomfort. Holding up her sleeve a little past her wrist a moment, she dismounted the bronze, patting his side in thanks.

'I know, thank you.' Most of her wished this will end without action, that no one will care and all her efforts were for nothing. No matter how much she would regret all that she went through, it made her stronger and it would be less embarrassing then a scene in front of N'tren. If the whole Hold saw, she wouldn't care; she did care if N'tren saw

She didn't miss him putting Datiath before himself, and wondered if he did it because she mentioned that he was a dragonrider, thats why she asked for help. "My mother was one of the hold's beauties when she was young, I was and am not, thats why it started, I am not going to try to prove her wrong, just face her now that I have support, thats all. If I don't see her, oh well." She shrugged a bit, feeling so weak because she even looked for help. Just this once, her pride was taking a bit of a back seat to fighting a inner threadsore that ate away at her for the longest time. Befitting that a dragonrider would be the one to help her incinerate it.

Splotch calmed under Caleten's touch and trilled softly into her hair. He liked having hair to bury into... His own kept his hair way too short. There was no chance to play in it.

Datiath looked down and waited as N'tren dismounted. He kept a careful hand on Gem so as not to dislodge her. Soon enough, he might have to get a rope ladder or something to climb up on him. Waving his bronze off, N'tren turned and looked at Caleten.

"If your mother only cared about how you looked, then pardon me saying so, but she really was no mother at all. Mothers should care about their children no matter how they look or act. My mother threatened to put me out with the herdbeasts every night because I was so active but she tucked me into bed every night." N'tren's face took a funny look because for a moment he was reminded of his own confused feelings towards his family. But that look passed as he remembered that he was here to help Caleten.

"Lead the way. And let's hope we stay away from childhood demons, huh?" All of this had amazingly come from the carefree lad of sixteen turns.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten didn't mind Splotch playing in her hair, Gem loved to do it and she had grown used to it. It was actually because of Gem's habit that she took such care to make sure that her hair was very well kept. Can't have a flint get stuck and struggle in there, after all.

To N'tren said, she remarked, "I don't disagree, she was no mother at all, my brothers were no brothers and my father was a sad excuse. We can't all have happy begainings. You grew up with herbeasts? The family I was born into owned the second largest ranch in the hold when I was growing up." Maybe they might have seen eachother when they were younger after all, though she can't recall, not that it mattered.

Lead the way, huh? How was she to do that, "You must have had a reason to come here, don't change on my account, I haven't been here in so long I don't even know where anything is anymore." Some times he really amused her, a male, but he was really alright.

Gem trilled, nuzzling N'tren's cheek with her wedged shapped head, happy with the turns of events.

"We had some herdbeasts. Our hold was more a farming and some woodcraft than anything. It is south of South and southwest of Rias, called Swalern Hold after my mother and father. Minor Hold Swakeal and Lady Neteria..." N'tren tampered off when he realized he had been rambling about his family and childhood. He was really trying to learn more about Caleten.

Splotch, by now, was poking and playing in Caleten's hair trying to see where it all went. He chirped his curiosity at Caleten then looked at Gem and chirped again. It was so much fun and there was so much of it!

"Second largest ranch, huh? I bet that meant a lot of hard work. I'm sure that also helped you get the knack for taking care of yourself. It's a shame your family is your family only by blood. I have two brothers, three sisters." N'tren started to walk down the heights, still not sure where he was going. He had only been to South on training exercises. Datiath simply sat up on the Heights enjoying the sun.

"I have only been here once or twice for training. I just wanted to stop and get some food and some new leathers for straps."

EvilSilverDragon
She nodded, feeling silly for assuming he was from South Hold. She guessed it was because she wouldn't come here for anything and only assumed he was coming here to go home.

Being home drained what humor she had, so she didn't laugh at what Splotch was doing, although she wanted to. All she did was pet him.

Gem trilled to Splotch, chirping out her and Caleten's humor as well. She couldn't play like he was, because of N'tren's hair lenght, but she didn't mind Splotch having fun.

Hearing about his family, she told him, "There was a lot of work, being the youngest of seven children, six being my older brothers. Some people may tell you all my family had were seven sons, because of the boy work, no drudge work, I did." There was no resentment, she was just proud she survied it all. Let the world think she was an ugly boy, they were all wrong. She didn't think she was a beauty but she didn't doubt her self.

Her mental map of the hold, the only place she could think of would be her family's ranch for leather. However, she was sure he had to have a better place to get the items.

EvilSilverDragon
The flit amused her she found his antics humorous. The only thing that kept her from laughing or smiling was herself, he was certainly inspiring it. Not once did she stop petting him, and on the inside, she smiled at the trills.

Gem was one of the happiest little flits at that moment. She chirped and trilled as she soaked in the rubs and affection she was receiving. For the most part, she was gold putty in his hands. Her eyes whirled fast with happiness, both hers and a bit of her firend's.

Caleten heard the compliment, and saw it as it was intended. Granted he was wrong in some ways, being free was a loss in many ways, just one she was willing to shoulder. "Thank you." That she wasn't afraid to say, but she did what she could to make sure he didn't see her smile. For a few brief moments she almost forgot where she was.

Reality was back as she tried hard to remember the leather store she was sent to often as a child. Before she could answer, he was ordering his flit around. It was something she was going to ask Gem to do, but now didn't have to. The little bronze's action afterwards were amusing though. "There is a place my family dealt with a lot, the owner is nice enough, and a fair man." Well, he was a little nicer to her then her brothers, one of the reasons she got to go so often.

Looking around the corner, she spotted the store she was talking about. A man walked out, looking about thirty turns, and almost like a mirror image of Caleten, only his eyes were a deep brown and full of humor. A smile sat on his clean shaven face, until he saw Caleten, with a frown of almost thought, he looked at her a moment before turning away, waving at the shop owner then heading away without a word.

For Caleten's part, she walked forward, but towards him, even after he left, she did not pause or hesitate.

N'tren followed Caleten's words and eyes as he looked about for the store. He knew that he had done something to make her a little happier, especially now that Splotch was behaving himself. For some reason, N'tren was glad to be wearing his knots and riding gear as they hit the lower levels of the Hold.

"Anyone whom you speak decently of is definately someone I would trust. I know you really don't vouch for many, do you?" It was a rhetorical question and he expected no answer to it.

The bronze rider said nothing as a man came out of a building in front of him. His eyes widened as he noticed the similarities between Caleten and the man in front of him. Wisely he said nothing about the man, instead, "Is this where we need to be, Caleten?"

EvilSilverDragon
She didn't answer, but had to agree with him. Besides himself and the shop owner, she hadn't said anything well of anyone. There wasn't much time to think about it, after the way her brother reacted. Maybe he didn't recognize her, or maybe he went to tattle on her. What could it mean? Ah, what did she care what he thought?

Her attention was back on N'tren and she spoke, "Yes, Mr. Ravioty's shop." Without another word, she took a silent breath and walked into the store. The smell of cured leather hung in the air like an aromatic musk. The shop was made of stone, but had a light and life to it because of the atmosphere. It wasn't oppressive or overbearing, but had a cheeriness that could only be brought in by the owner's personality.

The man behind the heavy desk, wearing a leather worker's apron with the tools of the trade in the pockets. He had a gray mustache that had silver streaks and an unevenness that suggested playfulness in its groomer. His face was thin and heavily wrinkled with a healthy sun-kissed glow. There was dancing mirth in his dark green eyes with caterpillar-y gray eyebrows complimenting the look. His full head of hair was neat and thick with no signs of thinning most men found in their old age.

He looked up to her, obviously very surprised once he recognized her. He walked over to her, freely hugged her.

Caleten froze in absolute horror at being hugged. A hug was a gesture she hadn't received since she was a young child running into Mr. Ravioty's shop. Stiff, though she was so tempted to hug the man back, she moved out of his arms and said, "Mr. Ravioty, your the best in the South hold, my friend, N'tren needs to get leather from you." She felt bad seeing the expression on the old man's face.

Mr. Ravioty, seemed down a moment then recovered saying "Have either of you seen a little girl? She was about this high" Puts his hand out to about four feet, then shrinks it, "A really pretty little thing, family seemed confused, the sun mess with their heads, they confused that sweet little girl as a boy. Silly people, good people, but silly. I was hoping to find that bright eyed little girl one of these days." He was obviously talking about her, and confused about the adult that stepped in the place of that child.

Caleten blinked, unsure of what to say for a moment before saying, "Anyone who goes holdless, is lost forever, it doesn't allow for weakness and careless joy." She then walked away; bothered greatly by the cold harsh way she had to speak to the kindly old man.
.

Naree
Splotch hissed in response to Caleten's attitude. This was not the happy friend that he knew. But he sat still and behaved on her shoulder and chirped over at Gem as if to ask why she was being silly.

N'tren had merely followed into the store. He watched the old man react with joy at seeing Caleten. The young rider waited for Caleten to melt under the man's smile and joy but she was just as cold as ever. Confused, he listened to the man ramble on obviously about Caleten as a girl...

"Master Ravioty, I am in need of leather to make new riding straps. If I could take a look at your wares, I am sure anything you have will be most satisfactory."

Splotch crooned sadly at the change in N'tren and Caleten. He rubbed little head against Caleten's cheek and chirped softly.

EvilSilverDragon
Ravioty looked to the bronze and said with a smile, "Such a lovely young bronze, with the spirit of a fighter. They say a flit is like its owner, but more true in their feelings and in their expressions." He looked thoughtful and brightened up as he looked to the young man with her and smiled as he waved him over with an open, friendly gesture, "I am honored you have come into my humble shop, dragonrider N'tren. Well, well, come I will show you." He was alight with humor and good spirit. Always open and warm, he headed to the corner of his humble shop, displayed on hand carved stands.

The leather was sturdy and vering lenghts of thickness. All was well oiled, it was clear that the cravter took pride in his work and cared for what he made. He brushed his hand on his apron and says, "If I don't have what you need out, I'll whip up what you want in quick time."

Caleten said nothing about the fact the man thought Splotch was hers, not Gem. Instead, she petted the young flit and said nothing. Looking around, it looked so much like how she remembered it. Out of curiosity, she walked over to the desk she reached over to under the lip of the desk. The hidden draw was still there and she pulled it out. Sweet hard cadies were still there like they were when she was a child.

The old man said, obviously very happy she remembered it, "Help your self, young lady." Then he turned most of his attention back to the dragonrider. Looking to the golden flit, he comments, "She is a lovely flit."

Gem trilled holding out her wings a bit and puffs out her chest, showing off.

With a chuckle in his voice he adds, "She is a smart one to." He didn't sound surprised at it, just commented on the flit.

Naree
Splotch sat up a little starighter and tried to look like the well behaved flit that he could be... His eyes had slowed down a little and gone back to a dull blue-green.

"I can tell you are a great craftsman, Master Ravioty." N'tren made sure to compliment the leather worker. It really was fine leather, a hidden treasure for sure. He looked over each piece of leather before selecting a thick piece that snapped tight. "How much for this piece of work here? Are weyr and harper marks acceptable?"

When the old man commented on Gem, N'tren looked at Caleten and smiled. Then he gave Gem a good rub. "She has a lively spirit of her own and knows when someone is talking good about her."

EvilSilverDragon
The old man looked to the young woman then back to N'tren. He looked serious and spoke low. "If you promise to look after that girl, you can have as much as you need and want for nothing. Knowing she is safe, I'd owe you." Now he spoke louder, back in the jolly tone, lightened, "Yes, weyr marks are honored here. Thank you for the compliment, good rider. I care about my work, and when a man cares about something, it shows." His kindly eye held a twinkle in them, the kind old folks get when they are meddling a bit, but mean well.

Caleten had taken a pink ball of hard, sweet candy and slipped it into her mouth. Looking away from the man, she smiled and hummed, a sweet sound coming from an extremely rare moment of pure happiness. She was reminded days long gone where she would run into this very store, excitedly chattering before throwing her self into the kind man's arms. Back then, she would freely dance around the store, calling him grandfather out of affection.

Looking at Caleten he laughed deeply, a rumbling sound of benevolent tremors deep in the earth. "I see that." He lit up a bit more reaching out a lightly petting the gold.

Gem all out sang with trills and chirps, her eyes whirled with the speed that they seemed to be made solidly of happiness. There was enough of her for both of them to pet her, and she made sure that she did. Speaking to Splotch, she chirped a few lines of approval of him and Caletens' mood, and invited him to join her in the petting.

Caleten rose a delicate eyebrow, and raised her hand up as she petted the bronze, she offered another of the sweets to him, careful for it not the be seen. The humming didn't stop, so long as they are far enough away not to hear it.

Naree
N'tren leaned in close to the elder craftsman and spoke in lower terms as well so that Caleten would not overhed him. "Sir, I have pledged myself and my dragon to Caleten. There is nothing that we would not do for her."

Straightening up, he picked up the piece of leather and admired it greatly. "This will be perfect. I had to cut my last pair of straps, and my wingleader will have my hide if I do not have a good new pair to replace them."

Datiath had been "listening" in on Caleten and N'tren. He was enjoying the sun and talking to the dragon assigned to South Hold. Always a friendly beast, he "gossiped" while he waited for his rider. It does show when someone cares. He told N'tren seriously.

"I can tell you care very greatly about your work. I doubt that any price you ask would be unreasonable. Do not worry though, I have what I need to pay." He said this in hopes that the man would understand what he meant.

Splotch blinked in curiousity at the candy and carefully took the offered piece. The sweet confection stuck in his mouth and he gave an awkward squawk as he tried to eat it.

EvilSilverDragon
Ravioty looked serious, but still managed to hold that warmth and joy. He responded again in hushed tones, like wise not wanting to be overheard. "She has always been a stubborn one, willful enough to survive. I love her like a granddaughter; I rest easy now after hearing your pledge."

He looked at the strap, nodding approving the choice. "You have a fine eye, dragonrider." He was clueless as to the conversation between rider and dragon. Rather, he was watching the young woman they were both talking about. He heard what he wanted to, and nodded knowingly, "That you do, I am sure." The man looked able enough, and a dragonrider was surely even more so. "Is there anything else you need, good N'tren?" His kindly eyes were on the young man, but he was also paying attention to Caleten.

Caleten blinked and quickly stroked the bronze and said softly, "Don't swallow it whole, little one, try tasting it until its small enough, my silly little friend." The hum didn't really die, but neither did her curiosity over what the men were up to. N'tren, she didn't think would really be up to something but her grandfather figure, she wasn't so sure about.

Naree
N'tren gave a laugh at Splotch and looked up at Gem. The gold was behaving beautifully and he told her so. Listening to Ravioty, the young dragon rider nodded at this words and he began to look around the shop at what else was on the walls.

"The main reason to love this little gold is her spirit. She makes me wonder what she is up to sometimes but it is worth it in the end. As for anything else, I shall look and see but the straps were most important." N'tren commented without meeting either Ravioty or Caleten's eyes. He meant what he said about the gold, only he never distinguished which gold he was talking about.

She would make a good rider. Datiath told N'tren in hushed tones. The blue here thinks so too.

N'tren nodded to himself and examined some of the vests and other riding gear. "I will have to come back here before the next flight against Thread."

Splotch coughed and put the candy down. Then he took it in one claw and tried to break it with his mouth. It cracked but did not break. Exasperated, the little bronze took it and flew over to the counter. Instinctively, he cracked it against the stone and it shatter into many pieces. Happy, Splotch began to eat the smaller pieces.

EvilSilverDragon
The gold trilled, nuzzling N'tren's cheek and puffing out her chest more. She knew that nice things were being said about her. She rose her right foreleg, posing a bit and showing off in a pose. There was a sense of when it was too much, and for all her showing off, she was also reserved and well behaved.

The old man was perceptive, and meddlesome, he spoke looking at the gold and petting her a moment, "Ah, a spirit like that, treat it right, and she'll always be true." Hearing what he said, the man spoke again, "I am truly honored, dragonrider N'tren." He was still up for meddling, so he left N'tren in peace, and went to break that granddaughter of his out of her shell; he saw her as family and would take care of her.

Caleten ignored the men for the most part, N'tren knew what he was doing and they seemed to agree on everything. Instead, she was watching Splotch, very amused by him. She told him, "You are a clever little flit." About then, she noticed Ravioty walking up to her.

He smiled at the girl and pulled out the 'pathetic old man' routine. He had that little pout, those sad eyes, and a good story to tell her, "You know, it does my heart well to see such a lovely young woman in my shop. Why, its been so long since I have so much as laid eyes on someone so beautiful. You know, I lost my wife, now, I am so lonely. It can often be hard to get out of bed." It was hard not to laugh when she rolled her eyes.

Caleten had heard this story before; his wife had been dead ten turns before she had left the hold as a child. Still, the look, sad words, it got to her. Prideful as she may be, she gave the man a hug to cheer him up.

The old man, facing N'tren, beamed and winked. He knew a few ways to get to the soft hearted little girl inside the cold and proud near adult and he was showing N'tren one of them. Appealing to her good heart to care for and want to comfort.

Naree
N'tren laughed at Gem's antics and looked over at Splotch who was behaving splendidly as well. N'tren listened to the old man and nodded as he spoke on about the "gold" and leathers as well. In all honesty, N'tren was having much fun with the old man and admitting to some confusing feelings without admitting to them.

"You treat any one proper and hopefully they will return the favor. I will keep looking if you don't mind. I wouldn't mind lightening my mark pouch for a good cause." N'tren watched as Splotch cracked the candy and ate it. "What a clever boy!"

Splotch preened at all the compliments and continued to eat the candy with relish. Licking his claws, the bronze waited for more treats.

N'tren bit his tongue and watched as Ravioty melted Caleten's heart a little bit. He turned back to the leatherwork to give two of them a little bit of space.

EvilSilverDragon
The old man may not be done meddling, but he saw something at the door that made him step back, assuming a more serious, protective posture.

Caleten's mother came in to the store, harsh brown eyes zeroing in on her target. The woman was still beautiful on the outside, but lacked that certain something that spoke of true beauty on the inside. Her face turned harsher as she stormed over to Caleten and started to affront her, "There you are, worthless child, can't do anything right, can you? Worry us all to death, running out on your family as you did. Mr. Ravioty paid your debt to us, did you even think to thank him? Of course not, you useless child" She had her hands on her hips as she spoke, ignoring everyone else in the shop.

Ravioty did the best he could, "She didn't have to thank me, Kelceya, now you leave her be. This is my shop and I can't have you yelling at the customers. She came in with his nice young dragonrider, as much as I appreciate you not yelling at her at all, at least hold your tongue now." He wanted to completely tell her off, but he livelyhood had a lot to do with trading with her and her family. Even so, he tried to protect her as best the man could.

Gem's eyes whirled so deeply with concern and anger so quickly, that it was hard to tell there was joy there just a moment ago. She took off from N'tren's shoulder and hissed mightily as she battled the foe that made Caleten so angry and scared.

Caleten was dealing with the horror and anger over having her mother speak to her as if she were five, and in the space of three sentences, made her feel worthless. Gem's actions, and her mother's shrieks, were enough to pull her out of it and she recalled her flit. "Leave me alone Kelceya, I renounce you as my mother and your whole family as mine. You have no right to speak to me like that." Her hand was shaking though, nightmares of her youth seemingly turning this woman into a threadbearing monster.

The woman looked confused and started up again, " Bothering good dragonriders with your leeching ways? Stole a firelizard's egg on top of that. Do you know how valuable a treasure you took?" Looking to the dragonrider, she about died from embarrassment. Blushing she bowed and say, "I deeply apologize for whatever trouble this child put you through" Right now, the woman thought, she could just die. How dare that cancerous child cause so much mischief? A bad egg, she thought, now a scared bad egg.

Naree
Splotch perked up and began to hiss as the woman approached his friend. His eyes tinged red with anger, he extended his wings as if to protect Caleten.

N'tren bit his tongue as the woman began her tirade. He had listened to Caleten speak about her family in bad terms. He had not quite believed her but now listening to the filth coming from the older woman's mouth he was certain it was true. As soon as Caleten renounced her family, memory prompted N'tren to step forward.

"Seen and heard! I bear witness to the fact that Caleten has renounced her family. You no longer have any business with her, madam." He kept his respectful tone, though he was dragonrider and moved slightly closer to Caleten. "She has not bothered me in the least bit and she is certainly not lecherous. If anything, I have leaned heavily on her favor."

Datiath looked down at the hold from the heights. He said nothing but listened more closely to the exchange going on.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten put a hand back, trying to calm the bronze, attacking her mother wouldn't do. Her eyes were on her mother, not on N'tren or the kind old shop owner.

Mr. Ravioty was quick to work with the dragonrider, "Seen and heard, I also bear witness. I am sorry Kelceya." He really wasn't, but the man needed the business her family brought so he had to save face.

This was why she wanted him to come; she knew that for a guy, N'tren was very smart. He was helping her out of her nightmare and she was going to gratefully take that help. "A bronze rider and a respected shop owner both bear witness, Kelceya, leave me alone." Swallowing, she waited for her renounced mother to do something.

The woman's cheeks flushed bright read and she glared so angry that she rose her hand as if to strike the child, but didn't backing down at the weight of a bronze rider. "You ungrateful child...fine let the thread eat you! Good day, Mr. Ravioty, bronze dragonrider." Ignoring Caleten completely, she turned and stormed out of the store, slamming the door behind her.

Caleten leaned against the desk, in shock and deep relief.

Splotch chirped happily as the woman backed down but his eyes stayed orange as she started to raise her hand. Hissing angrily, the little bronze allowed himself to be touched by Caleten.

N'tren fought the urge to smile as the woman was deflated by her former daughter's actions. He took half a step forward when she started to raise her hand but kept his hands as his sides. When the woman bid him good day, he gave a nod and a slight bow and then turned to Caleten and Master Ravioty.

"Well, that certainly was interesting. I hope that I performed up to your standards, Caleten. And I am sorry that I did not realize you had such an...aggitating mother." N'tren chose his words carefully so as not to upset Caleten or in case the woman chose to come back.

Are you okay? Datiath asked softly in Caleten's mind.

EvilSilverDragon
Gem took her perch on Caleten's shoulder and nuzzled her cheek, forced not to hiss much at the lady that tried to hit her friend. Caleten was very firm on her not to do anything.

Caleten looked to N'tren, trying to think how to respond. Suddenly this huge weight had been lifed. She didn't have to be holdless anymore, so she was free to be a bit more of her self. Giving N'tren a smile, an actual warm smile, though not dropping her pride that still showed itself, she says, "You did very well, I am glad I decided to trust you and allow you to help me fight that threadsore." She had no qualm with calling Kelceya what she was to her.

Ravioty mentioned, probably just loud enough for N'tren to hear, "She has the gold flit, I see. The two fit, both do for her." He wasn't sure if the bronze was Caleten's or the dragonriders, but it seemed pretty clear who owned the gold. Asking allowed he inquired, "What color dragon did you impress, young lady? Such bravry and judgement you have shown" A capable girl like that, able to stand up to the woman she feared, had to be fit to be a dragonrider if anyone was.

Caleten looked confused and told him, "I didn't, I was 'searched', which should be called kidnapping, but I have never stood on the sands." Her, a dragonrider? Now that was a silly thought. Her train of thought was knocked off course when she heard Datiath in her mind. 'I don't know, I faced a woman that scares me worse then thread and survived, but I feel hallow. Everything I went through, everything that made me who I am was because I was running forming her, from being caught and dragged back. Now, I find myself wondering where to go from here, and kind of wanting a hug.'

The last part may have sounded strange, but she was trying to sort out what to do with herself, and her relationships with others. She could stay here with Mr. Ravioty. Well, no she couldn't not with having to deal with her renounce family until they stopped coming and Mr. Ravioty lost his best suppliers. However, she could go anywhere else and not have to fear anymore. So the question was how tough, cold and detached did she have to be now that she could actually stay in one place and freely make friends?

Ravioty, a meddlesome old bugger that he was, stepped away from Caleten. He, instead walked around the counter and asked, "Can I get you two young folks something to eat or drink before you leave?" He smiled a twinkle in his eye as he just watched the two young folks in his store. He may have a queen's wrath to deal with from Kelceya and her family for this, a temper being something ex mother and daughter have in common, but its completely worth it.

N'tren blushed as Splotch calmed down. Mentally calling the little bronze, he actually tried to meet the shop owner's eyes as he spoke. "Actually, kind sir, the bronze is mine. This here is Splotch. And my dragon, is bronze Datiath. He was from Ariath's first clutch."

Looking at Caleten, it was as if turns were taken off of her face and shoulders. She appeared much more younger and a lot prettier than what he had originally thought. He refused to let such emotions surface however and replied as he normally would to her. "Thanks Caleten. I'm glad your trust wasn't misplaced. It must have been a shock to that woman when she realized you had a bronze dutybound to you. From what other riders and wingleaders have told me, it is not something to be given lightly."

Datiath listened as Caleten rambled on for a moment. He resettled himself on the heights and went back to enjoying the sun. Eyelids closed, he went on softly in her mind. You can hug my rider. He might be surprised. You keep him far away. What is a hug?

N'tren was not privvy to the last part of that exchange and instead focused back on Ravioty. He hoped that the old man would not suffer at the hands on that evil snake blood related to his friend. "I would appreciate a meal before I head back to the weyr. But only if Caleten is hungry as well. If not, then I must take her where she needs to go and then get back shortly. But I will be back before next Threadfall for some gear or maybe a saddle. I belive my dragon is about done growing."

EvilSilverDragon
Ravioty nodded, understanding, "I see, it remarkable how they behave with the both of you. I can count the amount of flit owners who have flits that will behave so well and naturally on one hand." Actually, he hadn't seen it. To him, it spoke of some sort of closeness between the two that the flits picked up on it. That or they were well used to each other.

Caleten listened to N'tren, she nodded, agreeing with him. Her trust in him had been well founded; she saw no reason not to continue trusting him. "Kelceya is not used to anyone standing up to her, believe me, I am sure she is about ready to faint when she found out that I had ties to a dragonrider" Her thoughts were captured by those of the dragon, Datiath. 'I am positive he would be surprised. I keep far way from everyone, when you travel as I do, there is no point to making friends with people you may see every couple of turns. I don't have to live like that anymore. A hug is a as gesture of closeness that has different meanings depending on who uses it and to whom they use it on.'

Without the fear oppressing her, so took the freedom and used it. Putting her arms around N'tren, she says, "Thank you." Still smiling at him she did not linger to long before pulling away and looking to Ravioty she says, "I couldn't leave without some of your cooking." She was awkward about this, after so long, but that wasn't going to stop her completely.

Ravioty nodded and said, "Alright, you kids wait here and Caleten, don't scare off the customers, you hear?" He was smiling at her, playfully teasing as he turned and walked into back.

Caleten shook her head, commenting softly as she petted Gem, "He won't let that lie." It was something that had happened ages ago. However, she wasn't upset about it.

Naree
Splotch preened a little as he could tell the man was talking to him. Chirping lightly, he even dipped his head a little bit. Then he suddenly got very interested in his claw which became tangled when Caleten started to move.

N'tren nodded when Caleten spoke. But in the instant that Caleten moved quickly and hugged him, he almost froze. Not having time to hug her back, he just stood there with the most confused and surprised look on his face. To any observer it would have been a most hilarious sight. "You're welcome.." He managed to stammer out.

Datiath was laughing in both of their heads now. The sun was warm, his belly was full and his friends were happy. Life was good. He was surprised! Are you okay, N'tren?

Shaking his head at his laughing dragon, N'tren couldn't help but laugh either. Nodding at Ravioty when he told them to wait there, N'tren looked back at Caleten. "You know, I knew you were in there someplace Caleten. I am glad I could be of help. And I am just fine, you silly beast."

Splotch managed to untangle his claw and launched himself into the air, doing lazy swirls about the shop. He sent an image of the candy to Caleten and N'tren with a hopeful chirp.

"Scaring people away?" N'tren asked with an amused look on his face.

EvilSilverDragon
She hardly noticed Splotch had gotten himself tangled, being used to the flits play, she thought it was just that. Both his and Gem's reactions were so priceless. What really was beyond what a mark could buy was N'tren's reaction. She had surprised herself with her actions, but not nearly as much as she surprised him. 'I see that, you were right about it surprising him.'

Ravioty saw, being the meddlesome old man that he was, he had been spying on them. A loud bellowing laugh erupted from the kitchen as the man continued to cook and smile mirthfully.

Caleten raised her chin, there was a smile but she still held her pride. However, it wasn't her prideful tone, but one with some mirth in it, "People live behind stone to protect them from thread, I did the same. It is nice to know I can come out and not get eaten." Her eyes were attracted to Splotch when he started flying. Gem gave her a chirp and she gave her consent for her little flit to join him in the air.

Looking back to N'tren she gave a laugh, small and sounding unused, but a laugh not the less, "When I was about five turns old, my eldest brother told me a customer was someone that came into the store with candy in their pockets. So, already hyper from the candy I had eaten before hand, I was left with Mr. Ravioty for the day. Every customer that came in found themselves covered by a five-turns old child and everyone one of their pockets examined. The ones that saw it ran before I could get to them. Mr. Ravioty laughed so hard he had to sit down or fall down." She could see her self doing that back then, throwing herself onto anyone that came into store then prodding for candy while they processed what just happened.

Gem was in the air now, flying around Splotch. Touching him with a claw, she sent images of the human game of tag, where one touches another then runs as the other tried to tag them back. Sure she sent everything need to explain the game, she took off to the other end of the room.

Naree
Datiath chuckled lightly again. We are both young. Much will surprise us.

N'tren thought for a moment and then nodded. He was truly trying to hold back his surprise. Not only had Caleten hugged him but she was laughing and completely being herself. His bright green eyes danced at the thought of this new person forming in front of him.

She is something else. He told Datiath privately. Too bad she was not there at the last hatching. I bet she would have Impressed.

The bronze wisely said nothing but continued to listen in on his friends.

As Caleten told her story, N'tren burst out laughing. He tried to imagine a younger Caleten laughing and being eager to search for treats. And when he thought about the older man taking care of Caleten when no one else would, it sobered him up for a moment. Still, the young bronze rider managed to keep a smile on his face.

Splotch was confused. He was still thinking about the candy when Gem came up and tapped him with her claw. Giving a sad quip, he half-heartedly went after Gem.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten told Datiath, 'I have one more planned in store for him.' It was time to try something different something that would not cause harm to the old man she cared about. Looking to N'tren she says, smiling, "So, do you think I'll be able to find a place in the weyr?" She was implying a desire to stay at the weyr, in turn, to be in the same place as N'tren. The last part of that wasn't intentional so much.

Her eyes, still hard but softening slowly, was an indication to the internal ease she was very slowly finding. It would still take time, but she was healing now.

A chuckle erupted softly from her as he bursts out laughing. It made it funnier because he was laughing so much over it. Before she said anything else, she heard Splotch. Opening the door, she cracked the candy into pieces. Finding a bigger one that was still looking easier to swallow she calls when Splotch is closer, "Splotch, catch." Tossing the piece up into the air to see which flit could catch it.

Mr. Ravioty came out with two cups of warm klah. Placing them on the desk, he smiled and walked back into the back, humming.

Naree
"The weyr? My weyr? I mean, not my weyr... Rias?" N'tren stammered like the young teen boy that he was and tried to start over. "I am sure I can help you find someplace to fit in. Rias is big and once you decide what you want to do, I can put in a good word with Cidrey or maybe even Ephia..."

Oh you have confused him much today. This is amusing. Datiath told Caleten. I want to see the old man. He can see me.

Splotch, happy that Caleten had understood this sudden interest in candy, was waiting anxiously when she tossed the piece up. Swooping down on it, almost like it was prey, the bronze help the piece in one claw and settled on the counter. He proceeded to gnaw and chew on the treat while sending thoughts of love and appreciation to Caleten.

"Thank you for the klah, sir. Though, might I ask for some sweetner. I get teased by the others because they think I prefer klah in my sweetner and not the other way around." N'tren took one of the cups and breathed the smell in deeply. "Aahhh... What do you want to do anyways?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten rose her hand to hide the smile, not wanting him to really know she was laughing at him. It was funny the way he stammered, but she expected it to surprise him and the reaction told her she got what she wanted. "Yes, Rias weyr. I would like to work with the dragons or the beasts. The help would be wonderful." She had a natural affinity for animals, but she didn't need to say that, if it can't be seen, why boast of it?

To Dataith's comment, she had to tell herself not to laugh, 'I see that, it amuses me as well. I'll ask him to come out with us when we leave.' Looking to the little bronze, she tossed a piece for Gem and brought another near him before giving his eyeridge a nice scratch.

Ravioty came back out, a generous supply of a honey like sweetener in a very old pebbly earthy tan pour cup. He had that twinkle, and spoke to explain it, "Not too much, young lady, I don't think the customers would appreciate it any more now that your grown." Turning he went back into the kitchen before coming out with the meal he made for them. The inside was about a fist sized ball of well cooked meat in a slightly spicy tomato sauce completely enclosed in a shell of warm, buttery bread that just flakes and melts in your mouth. Handing each of them a plate, he smiles and says, "Your favorite, little lady." She always loved it as a child, and it appeared she still did.

Caleten looked delighted, so happy he remembered even after all these years. Taking the lovely meal, she bit into it, savoring the tastes as the mingled so well in her mouth. Placing it down she said, "Excellent as always, Mr. Ravioty, thank you very much." Her attention was then drawn to N'tren. "There is nothing else I want to see here, but if there is anywhere you want to go, then I'll show you. If not, then I would like to go with you and Dataith where ever it was you were going before you two found me." Taking a drink of the Klah, she smiled at the old man and left the sweetener alone, for now.

Naree
"Well then! I know maybe you can study with the weyr healer or someone... We could always use extra hands during Threadfall." N'tren nodded at that thought. It would be nice to have Caleten around more often.

It will be nice to have you close. We can keep an eye on you. Datiath said what N'tren would not.

Splotch was oozing love for Caleten as she gave him more sweet stuff. Settling against her arm, he crooned at her and Gem.

N'tren took a deep whiff of the food and smiled back at the old man. He watched as Caleten started eating first and enjoyed each bite. She really was something else... But she was older than him by almost two turns. So he would be completely happy with her friendship. Besides, he was a dragon rider... Not meant for permenant attachments... Unless she were to Impress. Again, he shoved those thoughts so deep down that he hoped to hide him from Datiath. "This smells delicious. And tastes so good! I don't recall ever eating a treat like this... Caleten and I first met in a kitchen, could you please teach me how to make something like this?"

It was warm and flavorful as he took a large bite of the meal. Adding honey and sweetner to his klah, N'tren was completely at peace with where he was in life. Looking up when Caleten spoke to him, the teen had to finish chewing before responding.

"I hope you know that Datiath and me want you around because you are our friend. Not because we pledged to you. And we were actually on our way back to Rias now that I have the straps and a good meal in my belly."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten thought about the possibilities, she might be able to be a dragon healer or at least take care of the beasts they eat. After all her time holdless, she didn't have a squeamish stomach for things like that. She answered Datiath, chuckling a little out loud, 'Likewise, I'll be able to look after you three.' No way would she allow this to be them watching her, not without her looking after them as well. Her pride, after all, was a strong beast.

She smiled at the little bronze, giving him scratches and a belly rub.

Gem took her pets from her friend, and then flew over to N'tren, landing by his arm and putting a paw on said arm. Crooning to him, she looked up with whirling eyes. It wasn't the food she was seeking, it was the attention.

Caleten ate happily until she heard him ask the question, with a smile and a chuckle, she says, "I know this much, there is no Klah in the meal." It proved that she remembered that meeting, but it was Ravioty's bewildered look that really got her to laugh. It wasn't a large free laugh, something she was not ready to do, but it was a laugh none the less.

Ravioty was still looking confused, there was a big joke here and he was missing it. He'd have to get it out of Caleten soon if the young man didn't bring it up to defend the comment. "This is my secret, N'tren, but I'll give it to." He looked to Caleten, giving away most of his reason. His unofficial granddaughter was finally happy, and he'd do everything he can to keep it that way.

Heading into the back, he wrote everything down, the top part including everything needed and about how much of it that was needed. Then he gave a detailed description of how to make it, as methodical as a he was with his craft. He even wrote it on fine skins. Rolling it up, he walked over to the young dragon rider and hands it over. "This has everything you need to know, but I'll give you a hand on lesson if that will help." He didn't mind it at all.

Caleten nodded, and finished the rest of her meal. Very happy and full, all that was left was to finish off the Klah. While it didn't appear anyone was paying attention, she stole away a few more pieces of candy and placed it into a pocket from her dress. Walking towards the door, but waited until the men were done talking before she'd leave. As free as she felt, she didn't want N'tren getting lost because she left without, and she'd rather not face any of her former family completely alone.

Naree
N'tren picked Gem up and began to rub her belly just the way she liked. When she began to croon and look sleepy, he stopped and offered her a piece of the dish.

Caleten. There are people heading your way. Datiath sent worriedly. Be careful.

N'tren snorted and cuddled Gem a little closer. He was glad that she remembered their first meeting with such good thoughts. Getting up carefully, he turned to the old man. "I appreciate it. When Caleten and I first met, I was in the kitchens cooking. I was trying to make klah cake..."

He rolled his eyes and respectfully took the scroll from Ravioty. "But a very heated argument turned what might have been a good cake into a very burnt one. I still go down to the kitchens to cook, I think some of the others miss my meals. We have to get going but I am more than willing to come back and learn from you."

N'tren! Datiath spoke in a sharp tone. There are people gathering outside. Take care of the man and Caleten.

N'tren gave Caleten a look to let her know that Datiath had said something important. He sent the image of a crowd to Splotch and Gem to send to his friend. "I am afraid, Master Ravioty, that we must take our leave. I am going to be joining a fighting wing soon... So I have practice a few hours a night."

EvilSilverDragon
Gem was enjoying herself greatly, and trilled lovely to him. She happily took the bits and nuzzled N'tren in thanks. This was one happy little gold, and it showed clearly.

Caleten smiled at Gem but frowned when she heard Datiath, 'I'll be careful.' She wanted to believe that they were just customers or the normal population of the hold.

The old shop keeper was not privy in the conversation between dragon and young lady, so he was still relaxed. Looking a bit confused as to why she had suddenly frowned, he figured he'd be told or figures it out sooner or later. A chuckle erupted when he heard about the Klah cake. There was something he never thought to try that little number.

Looking to Caleten he asks, "You, argue, no couldn't be." The way he laughed gave a good induction that this didn't surprise him at all. "She always was a spirit child, the only four-turned child I ever did see that could beat a ten-turned little brat. Argued with him until he acted out, then I got in we got him running back home." He nodded and started for the door.

Caleten stepped ahead saying, "Dataith wants to see you, but let us go out first, Mr. Ravioty." By us, she meant her. Before giving N'tren a chance to move a head of her, she got to the door and opened the door.

She was able to take three steps out disappearing from the view of those inside before a rough, calloused grabbed her left forearm hard enough to bruise. That hand belonged to a tall man well over twenty turns old, and this man was very angry. With his grip on the now struggling Caleten, he slammed her very roughly against the stone wall of the shop.

All the light that had returned to her after she stood up to her mother, was drained out and then some. Her eyes grew harsher as she glared up at her assailant, there were two, the other just did not strike her yet besides hate filled looks. To the one that had her, she kicked out at him before finding her self hit.

The man whom held her told her in a venomous tone, "You little rock snake, not once in your life could you do anything that wasn't an insult to mother. She gave you life and you have been a stubborn, ungrateful, wretch. You tell that rider to leave and come home with us." His grip tightened until he finally had her wincing in pain. Both brothers were over six feet tall, cropped brown hair and built like what they are, herder sons that worked hard all their lives. They were tough, and they knew it, so did Caleten. Her bothers were all fighters, they fought each other all the time.

Gem went from relaxed, happy flit, to enrage. Her eyes whirled red going between being twinge with orange and begin twinge with yellow. This time, she wasn't holding back. Going /between/ she came out right above Caleten and made a dive at the man holding her.

The other man showed why he was there, when the flit started attacking his brother, he reached out and swatted at the gold, distracting her, and even managing to actually hit her.

The little gold got swatted away tumbling haphazardly through the air before she could right her self and go back into fighting, even though she was dizzy.

That ticked off Caleten more then the bruising hand on her arm, she tried to strike out at her brothers, but they were stronger then she, another vicious swipe at her had her seeing stars. She didn't give up, no matter how harshly they yelled at her.

Unfortunately, the area they were was too small for Datiath to land or get very involved in this.

Naree
Caleten made her move before Datiath or N'tren could make theirs. Nodding to the shop keeper, the bronze rider sent his bronze to join Gem. He sent an image of him attacking who ever was hurting her.

Splotch went /between/ in an instant. Seeing the big man attacking his friend and Gem, his eyes went red-orange and he began hissing and attacking the attackers. All ten claws were out for blood.

"Stay back, Master. Let me and Caleten handle this." N'tren came out of the shop to see the two men rough housing his friend. Fists balled at his sides, he stepped forward and glared at both men. He was short, short for his age and short for young man. At only 5'3" and about 120lbs he was greatly outmatched. The bronze rider was hoping that being in his riding gears and having his rank would help him out.

"Excuse me. Let her go. She is under my protection and the protection of Rias Weyr. To do her harm is to insult the weyr and I will not allow it." N'tren took another step forward and hesitated in grabbing the man. But then he saw him hit Caleten. "Enough!"

And without thought, and his dragon roaring angrily in the background, N'tren swung at the man.

EvilSilverDragon
The bigger man not invloved in restrainting their sister fought with the flits, batting at them. He was not interested in beating them, just keeping them form causing too much damange to his brother.

Ravioty was deeply distressed at the actions of Caleten's former bothers. He hug back, but not verbaby, "Osorth, Dynath, where are your senses? Two men your age beating on a young lady, this is out ragous!" His tone was lower, even, trying to talk sense in to those boys.

The man holding on to Caleten, Osorth, glared at the young rider, "Your picking the wrong snake to defend, stay out of this. What ever she did to trick you, drop it she is our family, and we'll deal with her." He started to get ready to hit her again, because she was still struggling.

Of course was, Caleten was not about to roll over. Kicking out, one long leg got Osorth in his shin. She hated that the injury she recived from the fight she was in when N'tren and Dataith found her the first time was making it look like her former brother was causing more pain to her then he was. It was just he aggervation of an injury she already had, not him.

Osorth was caught off gaurd when he was swong out, and had to let go of Caleten inorder to avoid being hit. He looked to Dynath, unsure of what else to do. The man was a dragonrider, they couldn't beat him up. However, they were more then happy to go after thier sister and try to intemidate the rider. Both of them came shoulder to shoulder as they approached looking like they were out to do harm.

Caleten held her arm a moment before droping her hand, they couldn't know she was hurt, show no weakness. Within a few steps, she was standing next to N'tren. This problem, she would not let him fight it for her, instead, she'd stand with him.

Naree
"The only snakes I see here are you! Beating up a girl is wrong and beating your FORMER sister, even worse. It was heard and witnessed by two people that she is no longer your family!" N'tren shouted the last part.

N'tren had started to pull the man off of Caleten when she lashed out and caused him to stumble. Immediately, he went to her and waited as she stood by his side. Or was it him standing by her side? Either way, if it was a fight they wanted...

"You better leave before I report you to your Lord Holder. I can let this insult to the weyr slide this time if you swear never to come near her again. If not..." N'tren hoped he would not have to fulfill the unspoked threat. He could not threaten them too bad. They might actually get the idea to go to his Weyrleader and Weyrwoman. And he was no fan of M'xan.

Make sure she is okay and tell me. N'tren spoke to Datiath.

I can not come and help you! N'tren wants me to make sure you are okay. Datiath spoke in an angry tone. He hissed up at the weyr enough to upset the other dragon on duty. Which alerted his rider.

Suddenly, a blue rider came running down from the heights. He looked at the old man, the woman, and the young bronze rider all glaring at the two large men. "What is going on here?"

H'sun, rider of Ulerith. Datiath supplied.

N'tren stayed silent. He figured it would be best to let everyone but him do the talking.

EvilSilverDragon
The brothers glared and reached out to bully the rider into giving Caleten up, "She doesn't get a say, mother and father disagree, and she is not of age yet." They were sure of this, actually they had no idea, and no one paid attention to when she was born after she displeased their mother.

Ravioty stepped forward saying, "Caleten is over 18, she has a say in her life now." He couldn't call them young men; they weren't behaving like men at all. Really, they were acting like untaught beasts.

Caleten didn't look surprised, of course they didn't know her age she even told them in a hard tone, "Osorth, Dynath, do not talk like you know anything. You have no idea how old I am." Her gaze on the men that were her brothers did not faultier, not even when Dataith spoke to her. 'Tell him I am fine.' It was a lie, her shoulder was on fire and she was still working on getting full feeling back in her hand of the arm that got the strangle hold. However, she didn't need him worrying about her with whats going on now.

When her former brothers backed off and paled, thats when she saw H'sun. She barely knew him and hadn't a clue as to the name of his blue before Datiath spoke. She answered him, "Good day, H'sun, we are on our way out of the hold when Osorth and Dynath started to harass us. I renounced my relationship as Kelceya's daughter along with her family. N'tren, bronze rider from Rias weyr and Master Ravioty both witnessed the breaking of ties." Surely her former brothers wouldn't stir up even more trouble.

Upon the stern command of Caleten, Gem stopped her attacks and hisses, rather, she flew in tight circles ready to attack the moment they caused problems.

The brothers protested, "She has no say, our whole family rejects her renouncing of ties."

Naree
H'sun frowned. He vaguely remembered the girl that stood before him. Something about her was imprinted on his mind. He took the steps neccessary to bring him up to the group.

She was the girl we Searched and rescued. Ulerith supplied. Datiath says she wants away from these bullies.

Datiath, in the meanwhile, was relaying more messages. Caleten says she is fine. I have asked Ulerith and his rider to help us. His tone was grumpy.

H'sun cocked his head and 'listened' to what his dragon had to exchange. Osorth and Dynath did have a repuatation around the weyr as being sullen men who stuck to themselves. He couldn't just leave the others to continue to be bullied by these two. The younger boy might be a bronze rider but he was still young and barely grown. Making up his mind, H'sun spoke in a sharp tone.

"If she is of age, then nothing her former," and he stressed the word," parents say will make a difference. Once of age, you have the right to make whatever renouncements you please. Perhaps, Caleten, you should go before Journeyman Harper Taemeran to have this written and presented to the Lord Holder." It was a bold suggestion.

Splotch, hissed and scolded the two men as he came to rest on N'tren's shoulder. He wanted the men to know that he had not forgotten them. N'tren picked up on H'sun suggestion and gave a slight bow. "Excellent idea, Ulerith's rider. With the renouncement written, copies can be sent to all the holds and to the Weyr. I have dutybound myself to this girl, so she has the weyr's protection."

Do you think I am laying it on too thick? He asked Datiath. Tell Ulerith that we either need to leave or go to the Harper and Holder. Caleten has to make the choice. Make sure she hears what you say.

Listen. We must leave or go to the Harper. The choice is for the girl to make. Datiath spoke sharply to Ulerith. He may only be a young bronze but he was still a bronze. And a blue had to listen to him.

Ulerith blinked as Datiath relayed the message to him. Turning his head down, he seemed to be checking something. I can fit in the down there. Datiath's rider says they need to leave or we need to go to the Harper.

"What will it be Lady Caleten? Do you wish to take this before the Harper and Lord Holder. These two have obviously wronged you." H'sun gave the choice to the girl who was now sharp in his memories with her struggles to get away.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten listened to the blue rider had to say, even if she was not his biggest fan. Oh she remembered the jerk that kidnapped her, thread or no. The idea of going to a Harper of the hold did not appeal to her too much. It was undoubtedly so that her former mother was playing the part of a concerned, wronged mother. If she was going to fix this, she was going to the Master Harper or at least the craft hall.

It took a lot not to twitch when N'tren called her a 'girl' as if she was younger then him. In her mind, she made a note to tell him not to call her that again. This would be something she'd tell him when they were not around others, seemed like a personal matter and no one else was making the mistake. Her chin did rise a bit, and with great discomfort, she rounded her shoulders a bit putting on the vestige she was most comfortable in, that of a proud, icy but very capable woman. Now, she remarked to the dragon, hoping he would hear her, 'I am not a girl and do not like being referred to as such, lady or young woman is fine, but I am not a child.' Her tone was that of stating a fact, no anger or harshness involved.

"I," she told the blue rider, "am leaving this hold. Dealing with the written validation of my freedom from this lot is not necessary." More like she didn't trust anyone here right now and would much rather be is away where she can get some healing done.

The young men, Osorth and Dynath were not backing down, but they were not moving forward either. It was a stand still, looking ready to fight but unwilling to so anything. It was unheard off for anyone to fight a dragonrider, certainly they would stand no chance against two.

Finally Dynath did the only reasonable thing he could do, grabbed his brother's arm and pulled him away, both glaring death at Caleten before turning and not looking back.

Gem went to land on Caleten's hurt shoulder, not that she recognized it as the one that was hurt. Not a second after she landed on it was she off as it had bitten her. Trilling remorsefully that she had caused pain, she carefully sat on the other shoulder and nuzzled Caleten to apologize. For her efforts, she got a scratch from the arm that she was sitting on.

Naree
Datiath told N'tren what she said about calling her a girl. The bronze bugled his happiness and stretched out his wings. He was happy that his rider did not have to get into a fight.

N'tren says we were playing the part. And you will always be a lady to him. Datiath relayed.

Meanwhile, N'tren waited until both men had left before he slumped a little in relief. It had taken all his resolve and nerve to try and appear much more intimedating than he really was... Facing Caleten and Master Ravioty, he wiped his brow of mock sweat. "That went better than planned. Do you want to go to a Healer, Caleten? Not here but at the weyr if you want. And much thanks to you, H'sun."

Ulerith looked over at Datiath. So strange. Clutchmates fighting. Your rider is smart to trick them.

H'sun gave a slight bow to Caleten and Ravioty. He turned his gray eyes back to N'tren and took in the whole sight of him. The bronze rider before him did not even have facial hair yet. He wondered if he was even old enough for a fighting wing. "My pleasure, N'tren. It is not the first time I have helped out this young lady... But she did not protest too much this time."

Splotch crooned at Caleten and Gem. He sent thoughts of love and relief that the strange men were gone. The little bronze was quivvering with excitement and he took off in lazy circles to work off some of the energy.

Caleten. Let's go to your new home. Datiath spoke very softly in her mind.

N'tren stiffened as he realized that this was the blue who had rescued Caleten during Threadfall. He carefully looked over at Caleten who had taken on the face and pose he knew so well. She was going back to the icy woman. Carefully, he moved to her side and pointed up at Datiath. "Dattie still wants to meet your Ravioty."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten heard Datiath out, and replied back, 'So long as its not a habit.' Right now, she was slipping back into the coarse, proud woman she was crafted to be under the fires of living with her family and tempered through living holdless for turns.

Looking to N'tren, the look did not break; the warmth and mirth did not seep through. "I do not need a Healer." Her words and tone were all icy but not as harsh as she was when her brothers were around. Looking to H'sun, she mentioned, "Your help was appreciated." It was left unsaid that the help was actually needed this time, unlike the last time.

When H'sun opened his mouth about the first time he helped her, she protested, "You did not help me, I was kidnapped, threadfall or no." Her hand was on her hip, reluctant to mess with the other one.

Her eyes rose to see the little bronze flying around, Gem went to join him and she turned her attention to Ravioty, who had stood to the side looking very concerned. "Come, Mr. Ravioty, let me introduce you to Datiath." Turning she walked towards were she last saw the bronze dragon. Safe to say people got out of her way.

Ravioty looked so confused, scratching his scalp a moment before just fallowing the young woman who had so dramatically transformed in front of his very eyes. If he hadn't seen it, he would have sworn she was not the same person.

Naree
Datiath looked down to the approciating Caleten and the older man. His eyes were slightly tinged with worry and frustration. Settling his wings against him, he waited for the two to reach the heights.

It does you no good to be cold. Datiath told her. Do not worry about those men. Instead be happy and come back. Do you hurt?

N'tren's face crumpled when Caleten was mean to him again. Not neccessarily mean but almost rude and definately icey. He watched as she lead Master Ravioty up to the heights at a pace that was almost too fast for the older man. Looking over at H'sun, he could only shrug.

"I guess she is still sore about that... It must have been pretty traumatic for her." Dutybound or not, he wasn't sure that he found her attitude acceptable. But she was still his friend and though riders were close, he felt a much closer connection for Caleten. "She still has her dignity and pride... That is good. I wish she would let me take her to a healer."

The blue rider merely shrugged back and looked at the disappearing backside of Caleten and the elder. She had not changed at all in his eyes from when he saved her skin from Thread. He thought about making a retort to the ungrateful girl but seeing as she just finished with one fight-he was sure she would not want to start another.

"She will do what she wants just as she always had. Seems to me, like you let a burr get stuck in your hide."

N'tren turned around with his fists balled and glared at the blue rider. His eyes danced angrily and he looked to make sure that Caleten had not heard the comment. Taking a step forward, he spoke in a harse tone. "You take that back. She is strong and...and...has dealt with a much harsher life than you probably have... You have no right to make any comments about her. We appreciate your help but you may want to return to duty."

Datiath's eyes got a little more orange in color as he listened in on N'tren. Looking over at Ulerith, he snorted and stood up slowly. I believe we shall be leaving. Your rider needs to watch his words.

Ulerith merely muttered and turned back to Datiath. Do not think you can boss us just because you are bronze. You are still younger than me.
H'sun glared at N'tren and stiffened his back. "I am still your senior, bronze rider. But you are right, I do need to return to my station. Next time I know better than to offer help since I seem to get a cold thanks."

The blue walked, back straight, past Caleten and Ravioty. He stopped and bowed to both of them. "Lady, Master...good day to both of you." And with that went back to the watch tower.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten answered Datiath, her toned a little clipped, disapproving the admonishment, 'It does here, and my former family has shown it to be a weakness around them.' That had been made painfully obvious. Speaking of which, the dragon asked as question about that, 'I am hurt, but I'll be fine.' She had to deal with rougher alone.

She missed the confrontation between H'sun and N'tren as she moved quickly to show Ravoity to Dataith. She looked to the blue, and replied, "Good day, Ulerith's rider." The farther from where the fight happened, the closer she was getting to being a bit relaxed.

Ravioty likewise said good day, and was in awe of the bronze he spotted. It was a younger one, but he was a handsome bronze.

Naree
The bronze looked down at the man who was friend to his friend. He dipped his head down and looked at them both with his mult-faceted eyes. They were whirling at a slow speed and coming back down to a calm color. His tone was more subdued when he spoke again.

I like when you are happy. Tell the old man I say hello. He is your family now. As are we.

Huffing at Caleten, Datiath crooned softly to let her know he was sad. Looking to his rider, he bobbed his head at H'sun and Ulerith.

N'tren came up behind Ravioty and Caleten. Looking at his bronze with nothing but love, his face was soft and young looking. Rubbing Datiath's nose and placing his cheek against Datiath's own. "Master Ravioty, this is my bronze, Datiath. Datiath, this is Master Ravioty, Caleten's friend."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten appreciated the more subdued tone, she did not want nor need to be scolded for behaving as she saw fit. 'I like to be happy, too, but there are times when you can't be, that you have to be stone in order to weather a storm.' Thats how she had to survive, it was a harsh reality when she found that out in her first turn holdless.

Looking to Ravioty, who hadn't moved from his awestruck stop, "Datiath says hello." That, unsurprisingly, seemed to surprise the man even more.

He was shocked at first, and asked, "Can you hear all dragons, Caleten?" That was an amazing talent to have, and although he never saw his unofficial granddaughter to be talentless, that wasn't one he thought she had. Being the meddlesome, hopeful, old man that he was, he wondered if it was a sign Caleten and N'tren were a strong couple.

Caleten shook her head, nearly wincing at the idea. "No, only Datiath chooses to speak with me." To have more dragons in her head was a very distasteful idea. She trusted the bronze, and his rider, that was the only reason she allowed peaceful commutation between her and Datiath.

Easing up, she gave the dragon a smile and slowly the icey harshness of her contenince started to melt and the inner warmth began to shine through. The pride was still there strong, her scar a badge of honor along her proud face. Reaching out, she petted the bronze.

Ravioty bowed to the dragon, though his old bones wouldn't allow him to do too far a bow. "It is an honor to meet you, great bronze Datiath. I want to personally thank you too for looking out for Caleten." He chuckled at her indignant look, obviously she disagreed that she needed looking out for. However, the young man and bronze looked capable to survive the strong young woman Caleten had become where as he just found it amusing. "I do apologize for the rude behavior of the two bullies; I hope you, N'tren and Datiath, will bring Caleten back to visit." There were stressors on his words, he feared Caleten coming here alone, for he did not wish her to be hurt again.

Naree
But stone eventually wears away. I want you to stay. Datiath replied solemly. He leaned into N'tren and blew gently at Caleten and Ravioty. His closer his inner lids and hoped for a good scratching. Tell him we will bring you back anytime he asks.

N'tren hugged his bronze and looked at Caleten. He could see that Datiath was warming her up again and was happy for it. The teen did not want to leave until she was happy again with the older man.

"We will come back whenever you will have us. Hopefully, the next time I will be much more intimediating and much more help. If those two or any others bother you, you send word through H'sun and let me know..." N'tren spoke firmly.

We try not to let our friends get hurt. Datiath told Caleten. He is our friend now.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten explained to him, 'Eventually, but it works well for as long as it stands. Don't worry; I know I don't have to be a stone outside of South Hold.' She had survived the worst place on Pern to her, and survived turns of being holdless, there wasn't much else she hadn't faced and lived, including Thread. Looking to Ravioty, she told him with a smile, "We'll be back, all of us you worrying old man." If her tone had been anything but warm and playful, her words might have had sting to them.

The old man pretended to be wounded, but laughed in that deep rumble at her comment. He took it as it was intended, an affectionate jab only made in good fun.

Looking back to the boy youth, he nearly wanted to say 'bring Caleten back a gold rider that would show them.' But he didn't, instead he said, "You did a fine job, N'tren, even if H'sun hadn't have come, you still put up a good effort. I'll let him know if those bugs stir up any more dust, though their father will probably keep him in line, he is a good man, if you can over look his horrendous failing." He didn't have to say it, but he did look to Caleten. Her father failed her, failed to keep her safe. However, he did at least make sure she was always fed and clothed.

Caleten blatantly ignored the talk of her father, instead she gave Dataith what he wanted, a good scratching as she lavished attention on the bronze. "You made a new friend, Mr. Ravioty." Indicating she meant the young bronze and his rider.

Ravioty spoke, his words closer to Dataith's by seer coincidence, "And they are my friends, I take care of 'em. I'll have something special for you boys the next time you come by, and of course something for the lovely lady with you." He smiled glad to see how much his Caleten had grown; now showing she was still young as she laughed and smiled so warmly were as she had been a proud ice block when he first saw her again.

Naree
Happy with the attention being paid attention to him, Datiath merely rumbled with pleasure. Crooning softly, the bronze bobbed his head carefully so as not to upset the humans. Home is waiting.

N'tren blushed but straightened up. He was not the prideful type nor the bragging type like some of the others in his wing. Moving away from Datiath, he held out his hand for Ravioty so that they might shake. "I appreciate that, sir. I try to do what is right and what is best for those who matter to me."

Looking over to Caleten, he nodded. Splotch chirped lightly at the old man and gave a little bob as if to say, "Farewell. It was nice to meet you." N'tren smiled and petted the little bronze.

"Ready when you are Caleten. Do you want to sit up front again?"

EvilSilverDragon
Ravioty gave the young bronze rider a strong and firm handshake. With a smile he says, "It was nice to meet you and your two wonderful bronzes." In a quite whisper, he adds, "I know the golds are in great hands, I can finally sleep easy." Letting go of the young man's hand he moves back so they can leave without him in the way.

Caleten didn't run so much as walked quickly to the old man before giving him a hug with one arm. Smiling she said, "Good bye for now, Mr. Ravioty." Turning she walked back to N'tren and Dataith, bespeaking the dragon first, 'Yes, home is waiting.' It was beyound strange to even think she had a home once again. Most of her believed she'd die, holdless and unremembered on the empty, hot sands of the Southern land. Now she responded to N'tren, trust easier to show now, "I am ready now, I'll sit in front again."Walking to the bronze's side, she petted him as she tried to figure out how to get on his back with only one hand to help her climb. Strong as she may be, this was going to be a bit tricky.

Gem did an elaborate dance in the sky, trilling a sweet song to all those that heard her. She was saying good bye and showing off how happy she was to have a home, part of her joy being that of her friends. Her song was cut off a bit, concern for Caleten drawing her back to her firend's side.

Naree
Do you need help getting up? Is your arm still hurt? Datiath asked with great concern. His eyes started to tinge with worry and he looked at her. Pushing his body as close to the ground as he could, the bronze tried to help how he could.

"Thank you again." N'tren winked to let the old man know he had understood the gold remark. Turning to Caleten, he could see her contemplating on how to get up on Datiath. And when his bronze got closer to the ground, he stepped forward.

"I could climb up first and then help you up. If I support your arm, then you can use the good one to pull up."

He hoped she would not argue and take to the suggestion. Splotch took off to join Gem so that his beloved could help his friend. The bronze chirped to Gem as if to reassure her that everything would be alright.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten heard Datiath's question and tried to save her pride, 'It will be fine, just not that strong at the moment.' She was broken out of her contemplating when N'tren spoke. In classic Caleten fashion, she stubbornly tried to prove him wrong. She tried to climb on to the dragon's back only to find she couldn't. With one hand, it was impossible and the other too hurt for her to push it too far without worry of causing more damage.

Sacrificing her pride, though showing no outward sign of it, she finally agrees. "Alright, I'll try your suggestion, it sounds like a sound idea." By the first egg, it was hard to admit there was something she was unable to do. Some how, it didn't seem like admitting weakness so much with him as it might have with others.

Gem looked to Splotch and trilled back, saying that she agreed it would be. That didn't stop her from worrying, so she distracted herself by flying around the bronze a moment before swooping down to over see N'tren helping Caleten up.

Naree
"Master Ravioty, if you just stand behind Caleten. Don't want you to slip." N'tren nodded and moved past Caleten. He was used to having to haul himself up onto the bronze.

Climbing up, he stopped at what would be considered Datiath's knee. Carefully, he leaned down and offered Caleten his hand. Bracing himself, he told her. "Use your good arm to pull up and leave the other limp. Don't worry if you tumble into Datiath, you can't hurt him."

It takes much to hurt me. I will not let you fall.
Datiath reassured her.

Making sure he was in good position and had his weight settled right, N'tren looked down at Caleten and waited. He knew that she would move at her own pace.

EvilSilverDragon
Master Ravioty did one better, he picked Caleten up and handed her over to N'tren. The playful bat on the side of the head that he recived from the young lady just made him laugh.

Caleten let out a very girlish 'eep' when she was suddenly picked up, but the look on her face afterwards warned off laugther at it. Now, using her foot to push her up by the old man's offered hand, she just needed N'tren to pull her the rest of the way and keep her stable as she got seated on Dataith.

She did respond to the dragon, 'This is humilating, I should be able to do this on my own.' It wasn't that she wasn't greatful for the help, but it was still bothering her that she needed someone to help her. It was cute when she was a baby and being put on a runnerbeast by her father, now she was a grown lady!

Naree
N'tren laughed and made sure no weight went into Caleten's arm as he pulled her up and into him/Datiath. He blushed for a moment before moving so that he could help her up the rest of the way. Gently, N'tren placed Caleten where she needed to be so she could get comfortable on Datiath.

Just enjoy it. Datiath told her and he waited for her to finish mounting up. It is not often one gets to be spoiled.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten used N'tren's help, and when she was on the dragon, she moved her legs so she could sit comfortably. Now, she was ready, well mounted. With N'tren's body heat at her back, she'd once again be held by a male. Though, he really wasn't as disturbing, the thought of it, as it was with anyone else. That trust thing again, she really was starting to see that at least N'tren, was not to be put in the same category as the other entire smile ball men, him and Mr. Ravoity are exempt from that category.

'I don't think I even know how to be spoiled.' Her response to Datiath was honest; she really didn't think she knew how to handle it.

Waving to the old man she yelled to him as he retreated, "Good bye, Mr. Ravoity!" Then looking over her shoulder at N'tren, she told him, "I am ready." Then as a final signal, she called Gem to her.

The little gold flew in a few more aerobatic movements, trilling before she flew to Caleten's good shoulder and sat her claws keeping her hooked as well as the tale around her neck. The little gold was careful never to hurt her friend.

Naree
N'tren rested himself against Caleten's back. His hands were loose about her waist as he waited for her to settle. The young man was once again happy. Splotch settled onto N'tren's shoulder and chirped happily to Ravioty, Caleten and pretty much every one and everything around him.

"Take care, Master Ravioty! It was good meeting you." Waving to the old man, he gave Datiath a good thump. Time to go now.

Be prepared. I am leaping and then we are leaving and going /between/. We will be home. You will be with us. Datiath told Caleten. And bunching himself up, he launched himself upward and with a good sweep of his wings, was skyward.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten didn't tense up this time, when he held loosely to her. Instead, she was relaxed and allowed him to hold on to her and rest against her back. The warmth of the sun helped a great deal in coaxing a full out smile on herface as they lunched into the sky. 'Home' she repeated Datiath in her mind. Finally she told him 'I am prepared, I have waited turns to go home.' With N'tren and Dataith and even little Splotch, she knew she would not be alone.

Taking in the warm air as it brought the warm kisses from the sun, she breathed in her old life and let it go. Read, she waited for the coldness of /between/ and the sight of her new home.

On What Happened At South

Datiath and I flew home again. Now that we are allowed to go /between/ we no longer have to wait for H'ryn and Delamuth. Which is nice... H'ryn seemed to think I was a pest.

It is strange. My bloodkin is no longer my family and though so small part of me mourns that... I feel free. I will still keep in touch but I do not think there will be any more visits.

But! That was not the excitement of the day!

I ended up rescuing Caleten. Well, Datiath and Splotch rescued her. I was just along for the ride. I wish I could have done more... As nice as she has been to me, I don't think she sees me as...well...more than a kid sometimes.

Everyone says I look younger than I am. If looks were anything, then I would never get into a fighting wing. I bet soon I pass my final tests and can join the others.

So we get to South and I meet Master Ravioty. He does amazing work with leather and brought out the nicer side of Caleten. She was softer and nicer and more... Caleten, I guess.

Then her snake of a mother comes in and started to ruin everything. She was so rude and mean and just, I can't believe anyone's mother could be like that. My mother threatened us a lot but she told us she loved us at the end of the day.

My mother. I wonder if the next time I see her is when she is no longer with us. I shouldn't think stuff like that... I know she is proud of me being a bronze rider.

So we are leaving and then I had to deal with her brothers. They were huge! I wonder if I could have hurt them in a fight. We have to practice grappling to stay in shape. And at least, I almost got a hit. But then, H'sun showed up and he did the saving.

Everyone else did better than I did. I just was in the way. Oh well, once I am bigger and at rank, maybe I can make a difference. Mean more. At least I was a good witness. That much I can say.

*shakes head*

A Week Later...

Caleten has moved into the weyr. It was pretty easy to get Cidrey and Ephia to accept her. After all, she wants to be helpful not one of the leeches in the caverns waiting to be hand-fasted to another person or become a dragonrider's woman.

*makes face*

Some girls are starting to pay attention to me. No one really in the wing but some of the drudges and others in the caverns have been saying hi to me alot. *shrugs*

I'm not anything special. Still short. Still skinny. My arms are getting kinda big and my chest but not like some of the other riders. I think it is because of Datiath. At least, Caleten talked to me and everything before she knew about him. Even if it wasn't for too long.

I hope she is settling okay and I can see her around soon. But Farin and my wingsecond have been making up practice hard for next Threadfall. More than once, I have had to soak... But not like when we first started....

I think I will get some sleep now.

ADDING A LITTLE SPICE by EvilSilverDragon and Naree

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten rose early, even having a stable place to live had not brought her from that habit. Another thing that didn't change is she did not linger in sleep, she was up and ready to defend herself from danger even though she knew there was none. Looking around, she saw her little gold snoozing on her pillow, and smiled. She had a little time before the gold woke and demanded food.

The time would be brought to good use, dressing was always good use. Now that she didn't have to worry about defending herself so much, she had changed her normal wear. Instead of those hot thick wool dresses that covered every inch of her body, she felt free to take comfort first. With the weyr being so helpful, she had been provided something suitable. The sleeves to the forest green tunic, cut low but not enough to show the top of her sizable chest, came down to a little past her waist and had leaves that reached her elbows. The pants she was given fit at the waist, and went to her knees for the hot summer. A belt held the pants up, but was not needed, they held up on their own. The light shoes were a nice comfortable change from her bulky shoes.

She had just enough time to finish up in the Necessity and brush her waist length auburn hair before Gem was up and chirping rapidly for food. Offering her flit her uninjured shoulder, the other one had seen a healer after she left N'tren's company.
The cool air kissed her exposed body and made her slightly loose tunic flutter a bit. She felt so comfortable, and at ease now that there was no reason to fear, that she didn’t bother hiding a smile, or hiding in the shadows.

Making her way into the kitchen, she watched the sun start to wake up as well. At the door, she paused a moment, then walked in to see if there was anyone to help her get food for the hungry and persistent golden flit.

Naree
Splotch trilled happily as the sun rose over Rias Weyr. He was in such a good mood that he had to share with everyone how right the world of his was... Perching on N'tren's head, the little bronze nipped at his owner's ear.

N'tren muttered and swatted at the bronze. He was still in the mood to sleep and stay in an unspoken, pleasant dream. When the bronze nipped at him again, he sighed and sat up suddenly. This caused Splotch to take to the air and sing happily. Glaring, N'tren rolled out of his furs and stood up.

"Can't let a body get any sleep can you?" N'tren muttered.

If you sleep any longer, you will become one with your furs. Datiath replied lazily as he stretched out on his ledge.

"You are one to be talking, lazy bones." N'tren snorted back. He headed towards his bath area to scrub up. The teen was barely alive until he was clean and had a cup of klah in him. It was a bad habit that he had picked up from the other riders. Dressing in his brown leather pants, calf boots and open vest, he made his way down the stairs and into the kitchen.

Spotch flitted around, trilling and chirping silly things. What could cause the little bronze to be in such a great mood? N'tren wished that the little one would share the wealth. Stepping into the kitchens, he looked around to see who was there and where the klah was...

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten had a drudge bring a bowl of scraps for her flit and klah for herself. She watched her gold fly over the drudge, showing off and trilling for food to hurry.

The activity of the kitchen was a bit busy looking, then again when the weyr would wake soon; it was good to be prepared. Doing the best she could, Caleten stayed out of their way and kept Gem from being too much of a pest.

By the time the bowl got to her, she had finished her Klah and light breakfast. She was going to leave with the bowl when she saw N'tren enter the kitchen. Smiling, she greeted him, her tone was hyper, but it was happy. "Good morning, N'tren. Hello, Splotch." Wanting to try it out, she tired to reach Dataith, "Dataith?" Normally, he started the conversation, but it was worth a try.

Gem grabs a piece of meat from the bowl and eats before trilling happily to N'tren and Splotch. Flying over them, she trills more and flies a few circles around them before going back to her food. Both, apparently, were morning people.

Naree
Good morning. Datiath rumbled. I am going for a swim and then to dry on the ledge.

N'tren perked up a little at the smell of klah. He really was addicted to the stuff. He heard his name and turned to see Caleten in the kitchens. He blinked and rubbed the last of the sleep out of his eyes. "Caleten? Morning!"

He wondered if he managed to keep the shock out of his voice.

Splotch, on the other hand..er claw, was absolutely thrilled to see Gem and Caleten and his vocal greeting was evidence enough. The bronze landed close to the bowl of food and hopped over to Gem. He chirped and looked piteously at the scraps.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten was surprised, and happy to receive the response from Datiath. She nearly nodded, until good sense had her back and she realized he wouldn't see it. Instead she bid him, 'Enjoy the sun; I'll be out to see you at least once to day.' With that, she gave his rider her attention back.

She could have sworn she heard shock, but brushed it off. Instead, she just smiled at him, her expression considerably warmer from one she had shown him form when they first met. Her smile grew a bit as she heard Slotch's greeting. Watching him, she left Gem alone to be nice.

Gem was, she bobbed her head and trilled to him letting him know she would share. Following that affirmative, she got her self another scrap to eat.

Caleten, wanting to see if the flit would eat right from her hand, grabbed a nice juicy scrap and put it right in front of the bronze. Having fed Gem many, many times, she did it in a way that she'd keep her fingers.

Naree
Splotch looked over at the gold and then looked at the juicy tidbit in Caleten's hand. Trying not to look desparate, the bronze walked slowly over and turned his head sideways to snap up the meat. He sent much love to her.

N'tren recovered and came to sit at the table. He waved over a drudge and grabbed a cup of klah and lots of sweetner. Shaking himself awake, the bronze rider looked over and smiled. "You seem to be doing a lot better, Caleten. Settling in nicely?"

Datiath bobbed. See you soon.

EvilSilverDragon
The drudge had only brought enough for her gold she called for more before leaving them to eat in peace. Walking over, she took a seat at the same table as N'tren. It still felt awkward not being covered so completely, but on the same coin, the hair felt so much better now that it could touch her arms and legs. It did not bother her one bit that all of her scar was shown. No matter how friendly she was, the pride she had in her self was still completely expressed.

Nodding she told him, "I am, for the most part." This was a huge change, now, she was used to living in a safe place for a day or two; however, that was vastly different from this. Here, she was perminet, or at least will be here for a while. Not having to hide anymore, being accountable for her behavior, well it was a less fun part. For the first time, it mattered that she follow rules, for the most part. This was a place she'd have to find her place, or go the way of a sun-crazed wherry. Besides, no matter how much she may feel tied, without a true place, betting on her staying here is like betting against a Bitran. She heard Datiath, but did not respond this time, she would see him shortly.

Gem snapped up a few more pieces but did not appear to have much of an apptite, at least she ate less then what she normally did.

Naree
Now that the klah was making it's way through his bloodstream, N'tren perked up more and wiped the sleep away. Splotch was so happy to be fed and was looking at Gem in a curious way. His eyes were a curious shade of dark blue-green as he rubbed against Caleten's hand. Grabbing some citrus and a warm bread, he looked over at his friend.

"Have you eaten yet? I'm glad to hear that you are settling in. Do you have everything you need in your room? Where did you end up at?" N'tren managed to talk between bites and not spatter food anywhere.

Splotch was practically a puddle of flit. He had leaned over, and when Gem did not object, grabbed one of the more bloodier pieces.

"I have no idea what is up with him. He was up this morning singing as if the world was created for him."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten petted the little bronze, puzzling over both of the flits' behavior. Her flit was being much more reserved in her actions and not eating the amount she normally did. The dark blue-green shades of Splotch’s eyes were stunning, but she didn't understand their meaning.

When N'tren spoke, she pushed off her musings, figuring that it was just a silly little flit thing and nothing to be concerned about. Nodding her head slightly to the first question she answered the next few, "Yes, they put me in a nice room on this level, took a while but I managed to convince them to empty it for the most part. It had too much for me." Going from someone who had nothing to being given anything, anything she didn't feel she earned or bought, it didn't sit well with her. Pride would not allow her to take hand outs beyound what was senisable.

Gem did not object, just laid down with her paws crossed. She trilled a few lines to everyone in room. Otherwise, she didn't move, she prodded lightly for something else, something live.

Caleten puzzled and finally said, "Gem is acting bazaar as well, she woke trilling and moving around, now she has barely eating." After all this time, she thought she understood her flit, but perhaps there were things she is far from understanding

Naree
"Too much? Really? Those are the types of rooms that are at holds and crafthalls... But to each his or her own." N'tren shrugged and munched his way through his fruit.

Splotch was practically rubbing himself all over Caleten's hand. His eyes were practically a rainbow of color and emotion. He trilled back at Gem and fluttered slightly.

N'tren wiped his mouth and thought for a second. "I have the day off today. I have been getting more and more of those lately. Would you like to go to the cove or someplace?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten wasn't looking at N'tren when he spoke the first time; it was Splotch that had her attention. Her eyebrows were brought together in puzzlement. She gave him attentions, rubbing his sides and belly. In addition, she gave his eye ridges scratches and asked N'tren, "Did you give him too much candy or something?" He was acting so strange, and then again, so was Gem.

Come to think of it, she felt weird as well. Maybe they just needed to walk outside for while. With N'tren beating her to the punch, she responded anyway, "Spending the day outside sounds like a great idea." Standing up, she moved to collets her gold.

Gem let Caleten pick her up and didn't do much to move on her own. She trilled her eyes were slowly whirling, emotion behind them building at a slow pace.

Naree
Splotch chirped sadly at the end to the scratching and flew to N'tren's shoulder. The little bronze kept one eye on Gem and the other was slightly closed. Curling his tail around N'tren's neck, Splotch simply waited.

N'tren shrugged again. Between Gem and Splotch's antics, the bronze rider was unsure what was going on. He felt fine and couldn't understand what was going on. Reaching out for Datiath, the teen tried to catch his dragon's mind.

What is going on here?

The little ones are in a mood. Was all the Datiath could respond. Are you both coming to see me?

N'tren nodded, though his dragon could not see them. "Where did you have in mind?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten looked at Splotch a moment, and then shook her head. Flits were funny creatures, explaining them is harder to do then winning against a Bitran. Instead of saying anything, she petted her gold.

Thinking about it, she says, "Due south, there is a nice little pool, mostly untouched by travelers, it is well shaded and deep enough that Dataith will probably like it. We could go there." Walking out side safe and comfortable, she was looking forward to it. Rather then wait for N'tren to respond, she walked out of the kitchen and walked to the weyr bowl, thinking that might be the best place to at least see Dataith.

Gem remembered the place, and trilled her approval, she liked it there. It was always cool and there were lots of fish in the water. Above all, it was somewhere even Caleten felt safe in.

Naree
N'tren followed after her, still looking at Splotch with great curiosity. Walking out into the weyrbowl, the sun was out in full force. N'tren covered his eyes and looked around before spotting his bronze.

Is there room for me to land at the pool? Datiath asked.

N'tren looked down at his vest. "Is it within flying distance? If we have to go /between/, I need to change my top."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten stopped a moment, like a dragon, sunned herself. She only allowed the wonderful moments of the sun bathing her for a few moments before moving on. Her skin seemed to rise to the sudden warmth of the sun, it felt so great to have the warmth beating down on her skin like a gentle feather covering her whole body.

Hearing Dataith's question, she told him, 'there is about enough room for you to land in the pool, but yes, there is plenty of room.' Taking a moment to look at her own attire, she bit back a comment, feeling in just too nice of a mood to say anything about the obvious. "It is within flying distance, depending on how fast Dataith can fly, we'll be there within an hour." It was almost a challenge; she almost wanted to make it a complete one. To see just how fast the bronze could go would be interesting, but she wasn't going to ask it of him.

Naree
"If we are just flying, then I am dressed fine!" N'tren nodded. He heard Caleten's not so unspoken challenge and grinned. He wasn't allowed to participate in the races yet but that didn't mean they hadn't been flying just to see...

"Do you want to grab a bucket or bag? That way I can gather some fresh herbs and maybe there will be fruit as well? We can have fresh juice when we get back." N'tren was tossing out suggestions. After all, what would they do once they got there? Datiath was cleaned and he had just hunted two days earlier.

I can get there as fast as you want to go. Datiath replied smugly.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten resisted rolling her eyes, feeling like being nice. A smile never left her lips as she walked forward. Upon hearing his suggestions, she answers, "If you bring a bag, I'll show you the spices Ravioty uses." Stepping closer to Dataith, she marvaled at how wonderful the hot southern air felt now that she was dressed right for it.

Upon hearing Datiath's smug reply, she answered back with a bit of a grin, 'Oh really?' The undertone of a challenge was still there, she felt so great natured about everything that it was hard to help.

Naree
"Okay! You stay with Datiath and I will be right back!" N'tren took off in a run, forgetting that he was a bronze rider and would be off age soon. All that was on his mind was a day out in the sun with his friends.

Splotch squawked at the sudden moment but clung tight.

Datiath moved down close to the weyrbowl. He wasn't as big as some of the other bronzes in size but he was lean and long. His dark copper-bronze skin was practically shining in the sun. The lighter undertones would be more noticable once he started moving about.

Yes. My wings are very strong and can carry us very far.

N'tren came running back with a rather large sack. He slowed and skidded to a stop, slightly huffing. His cheeks were slightly red and his eyes were bright green. "Back! Will this be big enough?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten watched N'tren run off, the way he did she wondered if she had offered candy to a two year old rather then a bronze rider. Shaking her head, she chuckled and looked to Datiath. Hearing his comment she said, 'I believe you are strong.' Did strength equal speed that was the question.

Relaxing, bathing in the glorious, generous rays of the sun, she hardly noticed N'tren had come back until he skidded to a stop. Looking at the bag he brought, she nodded and told him, "That size will work well." Looking up to the sun she moved a bit, put her arm out and looking at the shadow a moment she turned more and pointed, "Its that way, a straight shot." Her way of telling directions may be crude, but it served her well.

Naree
If a dragon's face could show emotion, Datiath would have looked very smug. His eyes were a slow whirling turquoise of amusement and happiness. Climb up and see.

"Good! Fresh juice is always a nice treat. Too bad we can't get more ice down here... But that is only for big gathers. Front or back?" N'tren looked in the direction that she had pointed.

He was sure they had been to the pond before or at least over it. N'tren prefered to fly everywhere close if possible. He wanted his bronze to be strong and in shape. He slung the bag over his shoulder and waited for Caleten to make her decision.

Splotch trilled and flew on top of Datiath's head. The bronze chirped to his larger cousin and preened a little bit.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten shook her head at the smug bronze, chuckling at his behavior. Walking over to him, she placed one calloused hand on his powerful fore leg. There was no doubt there was serious muscle under that well oiled skin.

On her shoulder, Gem gave a trill, soft and low. Other wise, she didn't move, just waited and stored up her energy. For what, she was not clueing Caleten into.

The word 'back' did not come out, it should by all rights. Her arm was no longer injured and she was fully capable to staying on Dataith's back without any help. A thought occurred to her, why should she hold on to him? It seemed right, to make him hold on to her.

Without letting him know, she got herself on to Dataith's back, with little trouble. Life holdless conditions you well, and even when she was hurt, she never stopped working.

Once on his back and comfortable, she told N'tren, "I'll take the front." The view was better, and she didn't need to hang on to anyone. It was someone else that needed to hang on to her.

Naree
N'tren gave a slight bow as she passed him. Not in mockery but in respect. He admired the way she climbed up onto Datiath with ease. The young bronze rider had had to give a ride or two to other people and not everyone made it up with such ease.

Pulling himself up, he wondered if Datiath was finally done growing. Sometimes, his tail hung off the ledge as he sunned or spoke to N'tren. Grinning, he took a seat behind Caleten and loosely put his arms around her waist.

"I knew you were faking your arm hurting." he teased her, making his tone light and merry. "Not even able bodies can get up on Dattie so quick."

The bronze leapt into the air and gave his wings a few powerful beats to get them up and into the sunny skies. It was harder to take off than to get going. Heading in the direction of Caleten's point, the bronze was quite merry.

No sand thing to time our trip?

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten took his teasing well, and threw back a teasing jab of her own, a bit of a laugh in her lighter tone, "I was hurting, but the healer is wonderful. I like the view better from the front." The point to her teasing jab was the back of his head was her view when she was in the back. There were many great reasons to be in the front, one of the biggest is she could almost pretend she were a rider herself, and the view was something special without a doubt.

Besides, she liked being held on to far more then holding on to someone else, could tell herself that he need to hold on to her, not that he was making sure she wouldn't fall.

With Dataith's comment, she told him, 'I always use the sun to tell the passage of time.' The sun was always with her, the device Dataith spoke of was worth more to her sold then taking up space.

Naree
N'tren laughed with Caleten though hers was more subdued. The young man in him wanted to hold Caleten closer though the rider in him knew better. Until his first time or his first flight, N'tren was trying to be on his best behavior. His ears burned at the rememberance of the green's flight and his rough kissing of a cavern girl.

The wind was nothing more than a gentle breeze. Splotch launched himself lazily into the air and did loops around the larger bronze. His eyes were a slow dark teal color as he chirped to himself.

What do you do when there are clouds? Datiath asked teasingly. He was now pumping his wings to full speed. Soon he would reach maximum speed and they would be there in no time.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten chuckled, she knew he was no dimglow and would probably get the jib, his laugh proved her right. She would have thought less of him if he needed an explanation. The breeze was nice enough, with nothing to hold her hair she was sure it was brushing against N'tren who happened to be in reach of her long thick locks.

Watching Splotch, she was still baffled as to why her gold did not try to join him, normally Gem would jump at the chance to show off. However, she didn't think too much on it, she'd seek help if the gold did not livin up by the end of the day.

With Datiath's teasing question, she couldn't help but half wonder if Splotch would try to tease her next. 'Then I do not think of the time, it mattered little to the holdless. However, I have a good sense for passage of time, don't think clouds will get you off.' She was being playful back, but her good hearted chuckle was caught in the back of her throat as he pumped his wings to full speed.

The strong wind pushing against her forced her to lean back against N'tren far more then she would have liked. It took her a bit but she found a grip that allowed her some dignity as she was able to sit more on her own.

Naree
With Datiath trying to go top speed, N'tren was eating Caleten's hair. With it no longer bound, it danced merrily in the wind and into his face. Letting go of her with one hand, he did what he could to brush her hair away. Finally, he resorted to asking. "How much longer do you think? I like your hair but not as my meal!"

The bronze banked suddenly. Not too far ahead of them appeared a pool glistening in the sunlight. The vegetation was dense but there was a ledged that stuck out slightly to give a good place to get up onto land. Is this the place you were thinking of?

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten had to find the humor in it, it just wasn't in her to be mean or angry right now. "Ask Dataith, its not much further, but it depends on how fast he will get there." More to make sure her hair wasn't pulled or eaten further, she took one hand off of her grip on the dragon to gather her hair as much as she could and held it to her body between her arm and her body.

The sudden bank caused a split second reaction born of ridding most of her life, her knees held as tightly as she could to Datiath's body and she held on as much as she could without resorting to holding on to N'tren. She had tilted her body the direction of the bank, again, out of pure instinct.

Hearing the question, she answered, 'This is it.' She could see flits down there, the little bits of colors, ranging from greens to bronzes, no golds from what she could see at her distance. That meant there would be others for Gem and Splotch to play with, a good sign.

Naree
N'tren held on as Datiath banked downward and started a lazy twirl towards the glistening lake. He watched as Caleten pulled her hair out of his way and stared at her neck. A strange thought of what it would be like to nibble on it popped up. Shaking his head, N'tren tried to clear away the strange thought.

This was Caleten. His friend. Why was he having all these weird thoughts about her now?

"This place looks quiet! I hope there are no felines around... We would have to make a quick getaway..." N'tren fretted for a moment.

Splotch looked over at Gem and at all the other flits hovering about the lake and vegetation. Chirping quizzedly, he blinked /between/ to go make new friends.

Many little cousins out. Datiath commented. The bronze dipped lower and lower towards the ground until he was maybe a wingspan above the lake. Carefully, he extended his wings and put his feet out for a landing. Hold on.

EvilSilverDragon

Caleten heard N'tren's comment, she told him, "I have never had a problem with them around here." It would be a shame to have a nice outing with N'tren and his bronzes ruined because of a feline. 'I'll admit, your very fast, Dataith.' the responce was honest, even if she was teasing a bit the same time.

When he said hang on, she did until he landed. She half climbed, half slid down Dataith's well oiled side to reach the ground. The area was just as it should be, peaceful and secluded. Even from where she was, she could see the clear water of the lake reflecting everything around it in playful games with the light. The flits were still there, and she wanted to get closer to them.

After being so dormant, Gem suddenly grew alive, her eyes a whirl of red-orange as she pushed off of Caleten's shoulder and took off straight for the lake. Trilling she flew up high into the air over the lake, her upward climb stopped suddenly about ten feet above the water's surface. She then folded her golden wings and expertly dove into the cooler water. A second later, she came bursting out of the water like golden magma from a volcano. Instead of being molten lava, she was a proud huntress. In her claws was a southern redbellie, fat and ready for its own breeding season journey to the cooler waters from where it was born. It, thanks to Gem, would never get there for now that her claws were deep in the meaty fish, it was not going to escape. No one told the fish, and it vainly struggled for its freedom and life.

Landing, her catch held by one claw, she hissed at the other flits aloft above her, completely unwilling to share. Savagely her sharp teeth ripped into the smoothed red scaled underbellie for which the fish was named. The flesh was torn in the likes of violence and urgency to eat as much as she could that had never been seen from the normally sweet and friendly flit.

Caleten blinked, her whole attention on her gold, feeling proud of her skills at hunting. Normally, the flit did not do so for her self but the show she was putting on clearly showed that she could quite well. For a moment she noticed that the green flits she thought she saw earlier had left and the other flits were flying above her own gold. It seemed odd to her, this was unlike her flit completely. She lost total track of Splotch, and was not even thinking of where N'tren might be at the moment

Everything seemed to be absorbed into her flit. Normally gold, it seemed she was absolutely glowing. Maybe it was the water, but as her heart rate increased, Caleten was beginning to think the glow was all Gem, but why?

Speaking of why, why in the world was it so hot? Normally she was used to the strong heat, after all she wore that thick wool dress in the dead summer for years, but now she wanted to rid of her shirt, it was that unbearable. Clinching then unclenching her fists, she became only aware enough of her sweaty, calloused palms to wipe them off on the side of her pants in an effort to dry the sweat away.

As she swallowed, she tasted the tender meat of fish of all things. It was as if she were somehow involved in Gem's eating, somehow sharing the redbellie's bountiful and tasty meat. Surely, the oily taste was indeed that of the fish, but why was she tasting it? Having spent every moment of Gem's life with her, them not being apart made their bound very, very close but nothing like this had happened to memory. It was utterly baffling and completely fascinating.

Tugging on her collar in an attempt to bring some cooling air to her heated skin, her thoughts were only on her gold, everything else, including her fingers messing with her sleeves and collar, were out of her conscious thought. Nothing seemed to matter besides her gold and the fish she was eating.

Gem continued to eat, her red-orange eyes deepening in color to almost a purplish color as they whirled at speeds so blinding that it seemed her eyes were one too solid of a color with absolutely no movement. Her skin glowed brightly, and her hissing defiant warnings did not stop, if anything they increased. The fish was almost completely devoured but the ferocity at which she ate was not being hindered by that fact as she finished up every bit of the meal.

Naree
Datiath landed on the small ledge. He immediately closed his wings tight and waited for the humans to dismount. Faceted eyes stared out over the water which was sparkling from the sun. He turned and looked at Caleten. I am fast when I need to be.

Splotch hovered near Gem as she suddenly launched herself into the waters. His eyes were a fast whirl of red-orange and he hissed at the other flits gathering nearby. Stretching his wings and puffing his chest out, he tried to let the others know that this one was his.

N'tren watched Gem in fascination. Then he turned to Caleten and looked at horror as her face went slack. Surely, she knew that Gem had been brooding and was closing to mating? Staying up on Datiath, the young teen realized that he might have to be the one to get both of them through this... "Caleten," he called softly. "Get your queen under control. She is going to mate. You can not let her rule you on this."

He remembered the force of emotions behind a mating flight. Even flits caused a strong reaction amoungst their riders; he had heard of many embaressed hold folk who let themselves be overcome by the moment. He wanted to slide down and shake her. But any sudden moment might startle Caleten or cause a bad reaction. If anything happened that she didn't like or approve of... she might never speak to him again.

Datiath. Help me reach her. Make her understand she has to be in control. N'tren pleaded with his bronze.

Splotch flicked his tail back and forth. Trilling angrily at the browns, blues and few bronzes that had gathered the bronze eagerly awaited the moment when he could take flight.

Caleten. Can you hear me? Do not lose control. You must make sure you understand what is going to happen. Datiath tried to reach the friend he knew.

EvilSilverDragon
The other flits paid no heed to Splotch's claims, even hissing back they wanted the gold below. None of them planned on making it easy on Splotch to catch Gem.

Gem defiantly shrieked at them all, daring them to even try and catch her. Finished with the fish, she launched herself in the air. Trilling with the exalting feeling of her wings responding so fully to her, so well, the flirty gold was off. She started her games of showing she was the strongest and fastest by flighing right into the group of bronze, blues and browns above her.

Two blues locked up their own necks as they tried to trap her, and a brown cashed into them trying to land on top of the outsmarting gold.

Gem emerged through the throng of flits, knocking out a few would be chasers by her maneuverings. Flying high and strong, she zipped through the air faster then she had ever flown before.

The brazenly flirtatious gold made her way to Dataith, flying almost right into him before banking up, sending a few of her chasers /between/ just to prevent crashing into the their giant cousin.

Gem thought it was the funniest thing in the world and trilled and chirped a type of sound like a laugh. She was strong and fast, no one, not even Splotch, would have it easy getting a hold of her.

The other flits not knocked out by their pray, where in fast pursuit, a particularly bold bronze was making his way up to try and dive bomb the queen.

Gem at the solution to that, race him to stairs, her climb into the dizzying heights did nothing but exhilarate the gold.

Caleten had heard N'tren's voice, but not his words. The moment Gem was in the sky, a gasp escaped her. It was as if she were flying with Gem! Not a part of her, just joining the gold on her flight to escape those that thought they could catch her. She could almost feel Gem's pride in her abilities as her own.

Datiath managed to cut through her mind, though she was barely in a state to respond. 'I understand, Gem is Flying, oh, its as if I am with her in it!' She knew, but did not necessarily care at that moment, even went as far as to look at N'tren almost confused he was still on the dragon, part of her disappointed and part of her relieved. Soon, she turned back to her Gold to watch her evade and thwart those following her.

Naree
Splotch screamed as Gem took off. He immediately went for the thermals, dodging and diving past his rivals. The bronze was little compared to some of the others there but he was quick. He knew better than to wear himself out right away.

He called out letting the others know that he would win this flight.

Datiath blinked as Gem dove at him. He was being as still as possible so as not to throw things off or make things worse. Many of the other flits screamed at him for being in their way and one lazy blue even crashed into his side. Still the larger beast did nothing.

Splotch had now decided to fly high. He pumped his wings as tried to gain altitude. He sighted Gem and knew that he had to have her. The bronze saw his main rival going after Gem as well. Flying into a cloud, he waited for his moment.

N'tren swallowed as his throat went dry. He was fighting hard not to be lost in the moment. He would not lose his friendship with Caleten over this. But if she did not realize what would happen... If she chose to deny the urge. The Weyrling Master and other older riders had warned him. Shards, he remembered how he felt the next morning after experiencing the green's flight.

Sliding down off of Datiath, N'tren grabbed Caleten by her forearms. "LISTEN TO ME! You have to control her. You have to understand that you will want to... That we will... We can overcome this if you want but you have to be in control..."

He was almost desparate with fear and longing. It would not be long before Splotch managed to carry him away in the flight as well.

Datiath tried once more to break in. Gem wants to mate. You must be okay with what happens or you must conrol yourself. N'tren will not lose your friendship.

EvilSilverDragon
Gem had lost track of Splotch as she goaded her challengers, telling them no one could catch her. She felt so strong, so untouchable, she couldn't help but sing her victory already. Flying close to the clouds, the little flirting gold dove in and out of them like they were waves and she a shipfish. Her eyes, whirling purple with lust, could not see Splotch and she honestly disappointed, having no idea that her next dive into the cloud would put her in reach of the little bronze.

Caleten was jolted from watching Gem when she was grabbed by N'tren. She stared at him, emotions floating in her unguarded hazel eyes. The walls she kept up to keep her safe, especial the ones to keep her from being abused by males, where lowered by her gold's lust and flight. Confusion and lust danced in the brown background, gold and green flecks of her eyes their steps, was it all Gem or did she want to give in on her own?

She knew she didn't exactly love N'tren, but she didn't hate him nor was she afraid of him. One thing she did know, no matter who desired it, she couldn't fight the urges, the woman was strong but there was a limit to even her. Even more so when her own hormones were adding to what was driving her half sun-crazed.

'I can't fight it, or maybe I don't want to. Shells, I don't know but I accept what I can't hold back.' There was more then enough of her to threaten, 'If he looses his respect for me because of this, I will send him between for it.' It was her as classily as could be. She already knew she was going to give in, how could she not with as much as she was affected by Gem? Truth be told, she had the same fear as N'tren, that he would not want to be her friend anymore or would see her as her mother did, lecherous.

She softly told him in a strained voice, "There is no control with them. I do not blame them, or you." The feeling of being weak seeped into her very bones, quickly suppressed by the hot feeling of lust searing her very veins.

Having accepted what she did not expect she was able to fight even if she was completely against it, she tried to step into his arms. Now it was up to him to take her in, or some how mange to push her away. Finally allowing this to happen, she hadn't a clue how she'd ever be able to again if she were rejected.

Naree
Splotch came down on top of Gem. He grabbed her shoulder and wing joints with his forearms and twined his neck with hers. His eyes were medium violet-red as he claimed her as his own. Their tails were caught up as well as they began a slow plummet to the earth. They would not crash for this was a dance older than the first colonists on Pern. He trilled his triumph.

N'tren's eyes widened as Caleten spoke and stepped into his arms. He was losing the battle even as Splotch finally claimed his prize. Hormones, urges, buried feelings and a deep connection to his flit finally broke down the last of his walls. With a groan of pleasure and something more, N'tren pulled Caleten into his arms and kissed her. He had only had one other kiss and somewhere in the back of his mind, he still had enough presence not to bruise her lips with his.

Pulling back, he was breathing heavily as he whispered. "This is not the way I wanted... If something was going to happen between us..."

He fought to form the words even as a wave of ecstasy rolled over him. Fisting her hair with his right hand, he actually had to pull her down to him because of the difference in height. She was a good hand over his height but in the heat of the moment that did not matter. Instead of rushing into another kiss, he nibble her lip...tickling it a little. N'tren was not sure where the idea had come from but it seemed to feel right.

Finally, he managed to gasp. "I haven't been with another girl. Not for anything."

He slid his left hand around her waist and tried to fit her curves to his body. The teen honestly thought that Caleten was a beauty even when she talked down about herself. Now was his chance to do the best to show her how much she was a part of his life. He fell back against Datiath pulling her with him as he was finally one with Splotch. His short hair was sweaty and his green eyes much brighter than they had even been... His heart was pounding so loudly that it was almost the only sound he heard in his ears.

'Please, please,' some small part of him pleaded. 'Let me do the right thing.'

EvilSilverDragon
Gem let out a shrill cry as she was caught, twining her self with her captor. She trilled with euphoria, very glad that she was claimed Splotch. Her wings brought them very high, it would be a long fall.

Caleten went willingly into his arms, a softer, lighter groan coming from her own throat. This was her first kiss, and she was so wrapped up in Gem's own euphoria that she could barely register too much beyond that it felt really nice.

Her warm breath mingled with his as he spoke to her, "Not how I imagined my first time either." Not even ecstasy could change who she was, it also proved she was in a bit control in this matter.

With very thick hair, and not being tender headed, she was not bothered at all when he grabbed her hair. Willingly, she followed where she was pulled. A delighted giggle escaped her as she enjoyed the nibble on her lip, it really did tickle. Hearing that it was also his first time, she realized that they were both going blind so to speak, being guided only but their flits' actions and what just felt right.

Despite the height differences, when she allowed herself to put he body against his, they just seemed to fit against one another so perfectly. Maybe it was the flit's influences, but it jus all felt right. Going on those feelings, she claimed his lips with her own parted ones as she was pulled with him against Dataith. The last thing she looked into before shutting her eyes with the feelings going through her was his eyes. Maybe she never thought of telling him, but he really did have the most remarkable eyes.

One hand was around his back and the other going through his hair. Whatever came when they woke and could think clearly, would come then. For now, she was reveling in just letting go and trusting.

Naree
It was a good flight and would result in a good clutch later on. As Splotch opened his wings to help them lower carefully to the ground, he was happily emersed in feelings of triumph and happiness.

N'tren felt Datiath rumbled at being used as a pillow. Apologetically, he broke away from her. He gave her his trademark grin and started to move past her. Even as he moved past her, he tugged at her hands. "I don't think this is the best place for us...."

The teen kept gently tugging until they had reached the tall grasses at the true bank. The plants were at least knee high in some places as he tugged her down to the ground. Gently, N'tren cradled Caleten to his body. He had already been worked up and had a obvious bodily response to her. Some of the riders back at the weyr bragged about size and how long they could last. N'tren ears had burned with such tales but now he hoped that Caleten would not be disappointed in him.

He quickly slipped out of his sandals and vest. Moving back in to explore Caleten's mouth and body some more, N'tren allowed his hands to skim at places he had only thought about in his most private moments. He wasn't sure if he should undress her or if she wanted to do it herself. But he could not escape the fact that both flits were about to be in final release and some more primal need wanted that release as well...

"Do I or do you?" He tugged at her shirt, causing it to slip down and expose her flesh. "I need... I need you... soon..."

EvilSilverDragon
Gem did her part to make sure the flight ended well.

Caleten smiled at him and followed with no resistance. She didn't think about where they were walking, she just followed the tugs, slightly feeling the long grass against her pant covered legs. Should anyone come by, a least resting they would be covered. That thought entered and left her mind more comforted then when it entered.

The first, and last time not counting now, that she had felt a male worked up, it had been terrifying. Now, she was curious and expectant, need coiling into an almost solid feeling within her body. Her boots were kicked off as she came to lay cradled against the warm, stripping body. A shudder of pleasure emitted from her body at his wondering hands, something any other time would have been rewarded with pain. In away, it was, her whole body seemed to hurt with the need to join the flits.

Finally his question came and she snapped a bit out of her rather submissive and complacent behavior. Her answer wasn't in words, there was no time nor need. Pulled herself away from him long enough to hastily stripped, enough mind to throw her clothing near by and not in the water. Not giving him very long to look at her, she was quick to claim his lips back. Her arms held him close, and moved on their own accord.

Naree
N'tren got a quick look at Caleten's body and his eyebrows went up in admiration. The reeds and grasses were crushed as their bodies rolled around, handing and mouths exploring. Somewhere, his pants had been shucked and it was now sleek skin against sleek skin.

He was fully prepared for the next stage. N'tren pressed tightly between their two bodies. He was not sure how it would work between the two of them since she had inches on him. His hands seemed to have a mind of their own as he traveled up and down the length of her body. Suddenly, while they were lying side by side, hands pressing against each other's backs it happened.

It was pretty fast. The begining... N'tren hoped on the shells of his dragon's egg that he was not hurting Caleten. He cradled her close, though her head was slightly higher than his and looked her straight in the eyes. He could almost count the gold and green flecks, like dragon scales, in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" He tried to move as slowly as possible so as not to hurt her or ruin the moment but the urge was building up quickly.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten was only mildly paying attention to the feel of the grass and reeds under her body, ticking her sides. It was the feel of his hands on her, skin against skin. She remembered a moment about all she had over heard ladies talk about. A lady's hands are supposed to be soft and supple, hers were calloused by turns of hard work, then again, this was a wrong time to worry it didn't feel good to have the textured hard earned roughness against bare skin.

She happened to be enjoying the feeling of his own hands upon her. Honestly this wasn't nearly as scary or horrid as she had feared based on her first near encounter. Well, one thing had yet to happen, and when it did, the stories how much it hurt were proven true. She was tough enough only to utter a gasp.

Looking into his bright green eyes, she was able to drown away the pain, and find the pleasure of it, compounded with how her gold was feeling, she found no word to describe it.

Maybe she was unfairly taking advantage of her height, but she answered his question with kiss on the forehead, reassuring him and nodded to support that. The need was far too great to just lay still, or to take anything slow. Taking matters into her own hands so to speak, she kissed him full on and deeply, working up encouraging him to continue.

Naree
N'tren tried to hold the rhythm of their dance. He moved against her body, building up a sweat that was different from any other workout he had had before.... The teen gasped as his body began to shudder with what would he hoped would bring them both into pleasure.

He put one hand on the back of her neck so that no matter what, they would not break eye contact. He kissed her chin; N'tren had no reason why other than it was the only way he could show his affection without really saying anything.

His other hand slid down to her hips and he guided her to compliment his movements. N'tren breath was starting to hitch as he gave another shudder and felt his pelvis start to thrust upwards.

"Caleten..."

EvilSilverDragon
She didn't remember sweating so much ever, came in handy though, removing friction as a source of outward discomfort. Caleten proved to be very, very responsive. Sound she didn't even know she could make vibrated through her throat and out the now still air, the losing flits gone else where.

So much was expressed throuh her eyes, including passion that was all her own, nothing to do with her flits. As shuddered, she let out another string of pleasure sounds, including saying his name a couple times between heavy breaths

Her breath spead up, and the repetions of is name as well as the sounds as she felt like she was on a dragon about to come falling to earth. With the thrust, she was over and falling with one prolonged breath.

Naree
N'tren gasped and called out her name as they rode the wave of pleasure together. He held himself in for a moment before collapsing more into her arms than he would ever admit to anyone. His face was against Caleten's neck. Taking advantage of the moment, he kissed her throat and her collarbone, growling playfully at her.

He body felt light as a feather. He hoped she would not ask him to move right way because N'tren was not sure that he could... If fact, and this is what some of the other riders said, he had to strong urge to go to sleep. Looking up, he brushed some of her hair away from her eyes.

"I am glad it was with you..."

Splotch was curled up on the ledge with Gem. Necks intertwined and claws crossed over each other, the bronze was humming strongly. His eyes were the color of sea grass and ocean waves. He too was tired from capturing his prize.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten really liked the sound of him calling out her name, even more so because she caused it. A sound like a mix between a laugh and a purr escaped the very tired, very satisfyed young woman as she tilted her head away, allowing him better access to her neck.

Asking him to move was far, far from her mind. Falling asleep in is arms was right there in front begging to be answered. Her eyes closed breifly as he brushed some of her sweat dampened hair out of he eyes. Opening them back up, the tired hazel eyes still refelected the afterglow she was feeling. Kissing is forehead, easier to reach witout moving. She whipered back to tell him the same in her own way, "I'd accept no other, N'tren."

Without trying to stay awake any more, she yawned, snuggled a bit more against him before falling into blissful sleep. It felt so good to have the pleasenty cool air dry the sweat off her skin and move the reed into a soothing melody. Something she wasn't willing to admit was that it also felt wonderful just to be held.

Gem nuzzled her captur, her eyes bright with happeness and how pleased she was that it was Splotch who caugh and Flew her so well. Like her firend, she was quick to sleep, her head rasting on Splotch's.

The Morning After Gem's Flight

I don't know how to think or feel.

*smacks forehead*

I should have recognized the signs of Gem being ready to fly. Then maybe... Shards, I don't know. Would Splotch have still gone after her? If she had been in the weyr, some others might have been involved.

I don't think she would have liked that... Her or Gem. And now, I have no idea whether to approach Caleten or wait until she comes to talk to me. After we woke up, there was this look in her face... I don't know what she was thinking. But I was happy and glad that I could share with her...

What if she didn't want to share with me? What if I hurt her or did it wrong? This is not something that is I just go up and ask about. I would never ask any of the women about it. All the do is giggle and sigh and stuff.

Maybe she doesn't want to be my friend anymore? *laughs dryly* I just read my last entry. What is the word I am looking for, irony? Hopefully, I can see her soon and figure out...make sure... I just want to be her friend at the end of the day.

A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING IN A SMALL WAY
By EvilSilverDragon and Naree

N'tren was bone tired. Since hitting sixteen turns, both Weyrling Master Farin and Wingleader L'cian had been putting his through serious training. His true last day off had been... He stopped and blushed at that thought. His arms were tired from tossing firestone, his butt was tired from sitting and running exercises. Every night, he collapsed into bed only to wake up and do it all over again. And in between, he was taking care of Datiath who seemed to finally stop growing. His bright green eyes had lost some luster as he thought about the chance to finally get some sleep. Both of his seniors had decided that the boy needed a break.

You should get food in your belly. Datiath told his rider worriedly. Too much work and you will make a mistake.

I have to work hard. I don't want Weyrleader M'xan to find fault and refuse to let me fly. N'tren replied in a tired voice.

Klah and stew did seem like a good idea. He wondered where Splotch had gone and then realized that the flit was probably with Gem and Caleten. He winced at that last part. N'tren knew that Datiath and Splotch had been keeping her company but he had only seen her in passing. Nothing more than to wave hi or goodbye.

She wondered what you are doing and why you do not speak to her. His bronze responded in a lazy tone.

Shards! Can't you tell her how busy we are? He was frustrated with the way things had been going these past weeks. There had not even been time for a dip in the cove. She knows where my weyr is and that you could relay messages.

Datiath huffed in the back of N'tren's mind and then went on to focus on something else. The bronze was up at the heights with the other dragons, now gossiping away.

"By the first egg, what has gotten into that bronze?" N'tren grumbled, not at all like his normal self. He was hoping that once his belly was full and warm things would look better. That and a good night of sleeping and not getting up with the watchweyr.

Plopping unceremoniously done at a table, he waved over a drudge for a cup of klah, a bowl of sweetner and a bowl of hearty stew. As if in a haze, he began the process of spoon to bowl to mouth and back again.

Splotch appeare overhead, chirping happily to see his owner. He sent lots of images of Caleten and Gem and being helpful. Settling on N'tren's hunched shoulders, he turned and chirped at those he had been keeping company with recently.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten had been very busy, the dragonhealer putting on her hard to learn as much as she could about the craft. Mentally, it was draining and talking so much to the dragons was not painless either. However, she took it with stride. Finally, she was finding her own place.

With firm word by the dragonhealer about being too tired to tell a fire burn from a threadscore, she was sent to the kitchens for a short break. With a wooden tablet in hand, she walked to the destination. Entering, her eyes were glued to the words and she did not even notice N'tren was in the kitchen as well.

Two seconds later, Gem appeared on the table N'tren was sitting at complaining loudly in clipped chirps. Caleten had forgotten to take off the wingpatches that covered both her large golden wings like white spots. It was fun to get the attention, but it was hard to fly and that did not go over well with the Queen.

Caleten looked up and over to her gold, now spotting the man she hadn't seen in more then a passing glance in a while. Turning to her gold, she was all professional about taking off the patches, using great care and careful work with her nimble fingers. "I am hurrying, you silly little flit."

Gem drew her neck back and chirped accusingly to her, disagreeing on who was being silly here.

Shaking her head, and shivering lightly because her long, thick hair was bound together into one mass, which brushed against her neck as it slid to fall over her left side. Speaking as she worked, never taking her eyes off of Gem, she says, "Hello, N'tren." The greeting wasn't unfriendly, but professional as she worked.

N'tren had looked up when Gem fluttered in front of him. He stared for a moment at the strange patches on her wings, worried that she had hurt herself some how. Splotch merely chirped back and looked down at the bowl of food in front of his owner. Sending mental images of love and food, he waited as patiently as possible.

When he heard her speak, he looked up slowly, taking in the sight of her. She was definately more at ease than she had ever been, with her hair all done and her clothes much more flattering. His ears burned slightly as he thought for a second about how he had tugged at that hair to get her attention.

In a thick voice, tired and cautious at the same time, N'tren greeted her. "Hello Caleten! Been keeping busy?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten didn't look up, she was finishing taking off the last few patches, "Very much so, I have heard a lot about how you have been wrung out as well." Finally done, she asked a drudge for a meat roll and a small bowl of scraps for the flits then she put tossed away the patches, grabbing a piece of clean washing cloth and wetting it. Going back to her flit she washed her wings to clean it of all the residue. Everything was done cleanly, but some extra attention was used to pamper her gold.

Gem, now clean and freed of the patches, she flew up into the air and did a few show acrobatics to show off before landing and nuzzling N'tren's hand, she had missed him, as had her friend.

Caleten sat down at the table, looking over the wood tablet as the food she called for arrived. Handing a scrap to Gem she reached in and held another to Splotch, finally really looking at N'tren. The first thing she noticed was his eyes. Acting like she was taking care of a patient, she asks, "How hard have they been working you? You'll fall over from exhaustion if they keep this up." There was obvious concern, professionally shown, of course.

Randomly handing a piece of meat to Splotch, N'tren was barely paying attention to anything Caleten was saying. It wasn't that he wasn't interested or didn't care; he simply was exhausted. It was completely different work from what he was used to...

He went back to spooning food into his mouth and nodding randomly. Datiath mentally prodded his rider into responding.

"I finally get a day off. It's just been the usual trainings, only moreso because I should be getting into a fighting wing soon." Ntren rambled as he rubbed Gem's head.

Before he realized it, N'tren was done with his meal. He wanted nothing more than to go and collapse into his furs. But manners and curtesy kept him in his seat. Trying to keep up with conversation, he snapped at Datiath mentally.

Leave me be. I can handle this.

Frowning, N'tren turned away paid a little more attention to the flits who did not talk back.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten was not sure if he wasn't interested or just tired. Concidering what he had been through, the traing she had so far as a healer, she knew the best first step medicen.

Standing up suddenly she says, "Alright, N'tren, you are going to rest now. I'll talk to the Master and see about talking about a bit more rest time, but now you really look like you need some sleep." One hand was on her hip, trying the tricks she saw other healers use to get their paitent to listen to their good advice.

Gem happily ate until she was full, leaving a bit in the bowl left.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten blinked, obviously taken aback by his snapping at her. The baffled expression didn't last long before she glared and snapped back, "Well excuse me to between! Must have been something I was going to be told about tomorrow next to every other aspect of a dragonrider's life." Her fist clenched but she tried to clam her self a bit, it wouldn't do to have to treat his injuries after she knocked some actual since in to him.

Gem was also hissing now, very unhappy by all of this.

Finally she went on, not giving ground one bit, "At least get some sleep. I will help you if you need it." The meaning behind that was not nearly as nice as it might be, she was full well prepared to try and drag him if he was going to be stubborn, being that tired was not healthy. Granted she wanted to sleep herself, but the healer training had her pushing to see to him first.

N'tren glared back. He was tired of everyone trying to help him or do for him what he could do for himself. She barely respected him and always had to boss him somehow... And now, both Splotch and Gem were getting upset.

Datiath tried to butt into N'tren's thoughts but his rider was far too upset to listen to his dragon.

He glared angrily at Caleten, not even sure why he was upset but knowing that he was and his eyes, once dull, were now a bright green. Rare was it for the teen to lose his temper but now that he had, he was not going to hold back.

"What did you think I was going to do? Dance up on the heights? Go swimming with the shipfish?" N'tren managed not to yell and gather attention. "This is how you always think of me, huh? Just some child who is there when you need him, otherwise someone to look after? I do not need anyone to look after me."

What about me? Datiath asked piteously.

Except you. We will always need each other. N'tren tried to comfort his beloved.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten did not look as shocked, actually she looked hurt as he accused her of thinking of him as some sort of child. It only showed for a few moments before hot temper took over, "Scorch that and the crackdust your spewing!" She may carry herself as a Lady, but could speak like a drunken sailor if she needed to and did not so much as blink as she cursed at him.

"If you can see past your sun-crazed tantrum, you might keep in mind the only one here who has been looking after the other is you! Not that your showing it, but I know under that exaughstion powered child like action is a man, I have never thought less then that of you." Well, Dataith but she wasn't thinking about him as she covered the sting of what N'tren had said with her fighting instincts. This was all his fault, the son of a Bitan!

"Friends are supposed to look after each other, N'tren. Thats what I thought we were. If you don't want it that way, then fine." Tossing her hair over her right shoulder, she prepared to do something she never did, retreat. With one hard glare she grabbed her wood tablet and left, walking right past N'tren without giving him more then a hard look.

It took a lot to bite her temper and pride, but he had to cool down, so did she. Even so, she stopped a drudge and spoke orders to have cold water brought to his weyr with a little something to help him sleep. Her words were much more forceful then she had intended but she was ticked royally off.

For now, she was headed back to the healer's shop, to work off her aggregation before she got some rest herself. With a yawn, she opened the door and walked in prepared for anger of the dragonhealer. She needed a good shouting match. It can help to block out the dragons from her mind as well. She may like Dataith, but right now she didn't want to hear from him or at least make it easy.

N'tren kicked at an invisible rock and cursed under his breath. He had no idea what had gotten into him besides being tired and moody and definately not needing a lecture from someone who barely knew what she wanted. Stomping out of the kitchens, he headed for his weyr. Splotch cried piteously as N'tren waved him away from his shoulder.

"Blast that girl! After all we been through, she still talks down to me! Trying to make me the bad guy. I am going to be in a fighting wing soon and if she says anything, I will lose my place." He was ranting to himself.

She was trying to be helpful. Datiath muttered in his mind.

"She was being meddlesome! The only one who needs to look after me is you." N'tren huffed as he climbed the stairs. Maybe they would go out hunting later. Some real game, not the beasts kept in the pens.

I would like that and I would like you to be nice. The bronze responded.

"I am not the one to apologize. There I am minding my own business when she has to go ordering me about and talking about telling my wingleader. Can't she wait until she Impresses before trying to boss me around?" N'tren walked into his room. A bowl of water was sitting on his table that had not been there before.

Datiath poked his head in. Someone brought that to you.

"Even now, she can't leave me alone!" N'tren grumbled. He took the bowl, put in on the moving tray and sent it back down to the kitchens. "Let's just get away."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten got kicked out of the healer's weyr and sent to cool her temper else where. Even if he didn't mean it, she took it literally. Walking back to her room, bound hair bouncing against her back from the long, fast steps.

In her room, she grabbed a small pack and made her way to the kitchen. There she had enough for the rest of the day put together and stifled a yawn as she left there.

Gem chirped to her, trying to tell her to rest, not get herself madder.

Glaring at the gold she snapped at her, "If you want to rest so badly, then go!" She instantly felt bad when she saw her little gold drop in the air and whimper at her. When Gem went on to her shoulder to prove she wasn't going anywhere, she petted the Queen and kept on her way, alls forgiven.

Leaving the Weyr, someone asked where she was going and she replied, "Where my feet take me." Then again, that was honest, she didn't know where to go. One of the best places was the one she went to last with N'tren. Just remembering painted her cheeks a brilliant blush. There was no going there, so where?

The place they bathed Dataith was the only other one she knew of that had clean water and was at least a little secluded. Needing the excursive and time to cool, so thats where she would go.

It didn't escape her mind that she was out walking in a tunic with a low cut, not showing anything but it still lower then the completely covering outfits she used to wear. Also, it actually fit, which meant it showed her body off. With that in mind, she touched her belt knife and started walking into the heavy, hot Southern air with only her gold and a temper to come with.

Meanwhile, N'tren was flopped on his bed punching his furs with anger. He had still not cooled down from his fight with Caleten. His green eyes were extrodinarily bright with emotion and would have fascinated a certain somebody if they had not been fighting. Splotch tried once more to land on his friend's shoulder and was shooed away.

Chirping angrily, he sent an image of sitting on Caleten's lap happily.

"If you want to be with her so much, then leave and become her other flit." N'tren cursed angrily.

Merping in a sad tone, Splotch went and sat on N'tren's wooden chest. He folded his wings close and ahivvered.

You hurt his feelings. Datiath commented.

"I particularly...," N'tren started and then sighed. "I am sorry, Splotch. I don't know what is wrong with me. I love you, you know that..."

Fluttering happily, the bronze came back to his owner and cooed. Rubbing his cheek against N'tren, the little flit was once more happy. Carefully, he chirped about fish and ocean.

I could use a swim. And you could relax. We could hunt. Datiath started adding helpfully.

"Alright," N'tren laughed. "I can tell when I have been outvoted. Let me get my riding vest on."

Grabbing his riding vest, N'tren ran outside to greet his bronze. Hugging him tightly, N'tren allowed a few tears to be shed before wiping his eyes and climbing up onto Datiath. Thumping his beast good, the teen took a deep breath of air. They leapt off the ledge and the dragon gave a few powerful strokes and steadied themselves.

"To the cove."

And with that command, rider and dragon went /between/.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten finally got to the cove, enjoying the solitude. Although she had not cooled her temper, she was not outwardly mad. Instead, it was bottled up inside, slowly leaking out of her temper tensed muscles. Sitting down on the edge of the hard, hot ground, she took off one of her shoes and sat on it to save her butt a hot sit. The freed right foot was placed in the very pleasantly cool water and the other leg was brought up to her body so her chin could be propped up by her knee.

Kicking at the water to watch it fly into the air, she let out a long breath and tried to turn her attention to anything but her current problem, N'tren. It was easier because Gem was up to her antics of aerobatics playing around with the local flits. She guessed, seeing as this was where they found Splotch, those flits were his family. The blur of blues, greens, bronzes, browns and the two golds made a fascinating display. Her stand out of a flit was never hard to spot and stole the show the whole way.

As the warm wind caressed her skin, she felt more at ease. Reaching down, her calloused hands cupped to hold some of the cool water. With a quick action, she flung the water on to her face, some of it straying and making her tunic a bit wet. Her hazel eyes looked at the water and she had to laugh. Her reflection looked like it had been crying, the way her dark eye lashes were darker still as if dampened by tears. Besides the fact he was missing the tear stains, it did look close. Shaking her head at the betrayal so far from the truth, Caleten turned her attention from herself to the flits once more, enjoying the privet show.

They came out over the hold from /between/. Splotch clung tightly to N'tren's neck and chirped excitedly as the descent bagan. Loosening his grip, the little bronze sent images of other flits out enjoying the breeze and sun.

"Go on. Go have fun. They are probably better company than I am." N'tren nodded his approval.

Splotch chirped that he would go and have a good time. The thought of fresh fish and warms sands definately lightened the little fellow's mood.

You should cool your head. Datiath told N'tren.

"My head is just fine. Perhaps you should keep your opinions to yourself." N'tren responded frostily. He was still not happy about anyone trying to tell him what to do or how to feel. At this point, if Ephia herself had told him to do something, N'tren might have snapped back.

It is not or you would not acting so silly. Swim in the waters. You like that. Datiath replied with hurt overtones. He stretched out his legs and wings for a good water landing. His eyes were tinged yellow with anxiety for his rider's behavior. And I could use a good swim.

N'tren ran a hand through his short spiked hair. He knew he was being difficult and honestly wanted to stop. But now that he was in the mood, a part of him didn't want to leave it either. Self-pity bred self-pity. "A swim for you and me. Fine. Then you can sleep away your troubles on the beach."

And so can you. The bronze retorted as he tipped and caused his rider to fall into the water.

As the warm waters hit N'tren, he started to feel better. Coming up sputtering, he took off his water-logged jacket and tossed it on the shore. He tossed his sandals onto the sands as well. Taking a deep breath, he dove underwater and swam out to Datiath. Bobbing back up, he splashed Datiath. Not that a little splash had a big effect on the beast. "You did that on purpose!"

I told you. You need to cool your head. Feel better? Datiath looked down at his rider with adoration and love.

A lump formed in N'tren's throat. "Yeah, I do. Thanks."

Good. She is here with hers. Be nice this time.
