Would it be sad to say that this wasn’t Marquis’ first stabbing? He’d been something under ten the first time, he remembered, and straight after his uncle had put him through first-aid training so he would know how to react if it ever happened again. He’d be commended by Poppy later one for his quick thinking, but it wasn’t the first time he’d done it. His uncle was in a dangerous business, after all. Hence the gun: They’d both agreed on him taking it to school. As soon as his uncle had learnt about the wizarding world he’d done a fair amount of research on it. He didn’t tell Marquis an awful lot, expecting the boy to do the same, but the previous wizarding world where non-pure-bloods were targeted was heavily discussed. Marquis would take the gun, no pure-blood would expect a bullet to the gut.
So the punctured kid was sent off, and Marquis sighed a little and pulled out a tissue to wipe the blood off his hands. He’d wash them later, but for now? He was going to see what stabbed that kid! Curiosity killed the cat, and Marquis knew it was stupid to go alone but... he was going. That was it. He’d started back towards the corridor when he heard Mattie’s voice behind him.
Oh. s**t. He thought he’d been careful! About a thousand thoughts raced through his heads, most of them guilty ones, before the fact that Mattie was pure-blood resurfaced. Bingo. Lie. The kid probably didn’t even know what a gun was.
”Er, nothin’ much, mate. Just got a little panicky, s’all.” Next step, removal. ”M’just gunna head in, kay?”
Resisting the urge to run towards danger and away from Mattie, who was looking particularly large at the moment, Mattie turned his back on the boy and headed towards the corridor.

Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, no. Mattie had not wasted six year of his life cutting out pictures and pasting them on his ceiling only to be brushed off by some pansy-assed Gryffindor when he saw his first gun. Hell no. Mattie broke into a run after him, not really paying attention to where they were going.
"I mean what was that. That wasn't a shot gun. Too small. I've only seen pictures of shot guns, though." Mattie was babbling. It was the only thing he babbled about. And he'd stopped scowling. He hadn't been this thrilled in a long time. "So what was it? Can I see it?"
Mattie wouldn't stop looking at Marquis' jacket as if the gun would just spontaneously float out of the pocket. It was like a dream come true. It was a model he'd never heard of before, and everything! And here he was, physically right next to it! omgomgomg.

Oh hell. He would have gotten caught by the pure-blood who actually knew what a gun was. If he hadn’t know then Marquis would have brushed it off as a toy, or something that dispensed bandages, but if the kid knew what a gun was Marquis would have to shut him up.
”It’s a fully automated pistol, it hasn’t got a sellers name yet.” It wasn’t on the market yet, that’s why, but it worked perfectly well and recoil was minimum. His voice dropped, as if he expected a teacher to pop out of nowhere and confiscated it off him at any moment. ”Um... m’not meant’a have it here... so if you could keep it down n’... not tell n’one, I’d really... really appreciate it.”
Like hell he was bringing it out again.

Whoaaa. A pistol. He'd heard about those... Man, it looked cool.
.. ... ...
"C'mon, just bring it out, once? No one's around! No one cares!" Mattie hissed, pointing to the jacket. He badly wanted to see that gun. Even moreso, to shoot it, but that could wait for a little longer. Maybe in a couple days. Mattie was being ruthless. He stepped in time with Marquis, purposefully invading his personal space so his charm would have an affect on his persuasion. "Don't be daft. Show it."

For once, Mattie actually was sounding like the eleven-year old he was. Marquis actually found this somewhat grating, simply because he was nervous as all hell now. There seemed to be no evidence of anything like a stabbing down this corridor and everyone seemed to have left the vicinity after the screaming child incident. Marquis didn’t blame them, but it did leave him alone with Mattie. Right now, that was starting to feel awfully awkward.
”Look, mate, it just ain’t worth me gettin’ expelled.” He bit back, trying to speed up and outwalk the larger boy. Mattie just picked up his pace too, scooting closer. Whenever he scooted closer Marquis was always left feeling kind of funny, lightheaded and a wee bit giggly. It made him... happy, for some unknown reason. Why anyone would feel happy about such an angry, large boy brushing shoulders with them was a mystery to Marquis, but asking Mattie about it just made him feel silly. It was starting to have an effect though, and Marquis gingerly brought his hand up to his head, as if the light-hearted feeling was a headache.
”M’not sure... I mean... s’not worth the trouble... someone’s bound to walk in.” Oh, how that sentence could be taken out of context! It was quite visible that Marquis was beginning to weaken though. Perhaps it was just being out in the corridor that was getting to him, with the threat of someone walking past and seeing. There were a whole lot of questions he really didn’t wanna have to answer.

Mattie scowled. Marquis was making this very difficult. Mattie would either have to beg, or... Mattie looked around for resources. There was one of many nameless hallways to their left. He could definitely pull Marquis aside and pin him. No problem. Except for how freakin' gay it would look.
Auugh, Marquis'd gotten ahead of him. Mattie grumbled and moved quicker to catch up. He was not going to miss this opportunity. He knew it was illogical; he could just wait until they were off the grounds to see it, but he didn't want to. It was like waiting to open Christmas presents until your birthday. It was stupid.
Aw, hell. Mattie waited for the next hallway threw Marquis in by his shirt, trapping him with both arms on each side of him. He better bloody hurry up. Giving himself and Marquis a few minutes to be able to adjust to the dim lighting in the hallway, Mattie growled out a quick, "Show it."
"What the hell?" A nasaly girly voice screeched at him. Mattie blinked up out of the unlit hallway. Oh, hell. It was one of the girls he'd charmed when he was avoiding Marquis and needed a human body blockade. ********' fantastic.

Whenever he got a few inches away from Mattie, resisting him became quite a bit easier. So the blonde had sped up, hoping the de’Medici boy could just bloody get the hint already. Having the other boy stalk you was like having some sort of stone Gollum trudging after you; his footsteps were ridiculously heavy compared to Marquis’, and that looming presence of his didn’t help. He had no idea why the guy was so insistant on seeing his pistol anyway; most kids would have said something like “hand it over or I’ll tell!” but no. Not Mattie. Was he just intending to play stalker until Marquis gave in due to creepiness? What a disturbing thought.
It was around then that Mattie’s hand closed down on shoulders and wrenched him into one of the small side-corridors. The stone wall was hard against Marquis’ back – Mattie would have picked a section with no tapestries, wouldn’t he? – and he flinched, only to be... stuck between the stones and a hard place. He gave a valiant shove at the elder boy first off, nothing, before that curious numbing effect seemed to take over his body. It really was quite a nice feeling, fluffy and glittery and very gay overall, but it left him tingly and feeling very compliant.
”Well... maybe...” He mumbled, about to rummage around in his jacket to give the man what he wanted, before that high-pitched, nasally voice broke the spell. Screwing up his nose a little, the blonde glanced over at the girl, befuddled. ”What’s yer problem?” He asked, not sure whether he was upset she’d ruined that feeling, or glad she’d distracted him from showing his gun. What was he thinking, he knew something like this would happen if he took it out!

To say this girl's voice was annoying was an understatement. And her hairdye job was worse than Vita's. Her roots were showing. She was very obviously not a real blonde. She adjusted her Slytherin scarf and overpriced necklace as she ranted away at Mattie. Something about inappropriate, yeahyeah, whatever. He still wanted to see the ******** gun.
"...your mother's going to kill you when I see her..."
Hold on, what? Mattie stiffened. How the hell did she know his family? Better yet, how the hell did she have the nerve to talk to him? Most girls just settled for a giggle-and-point.What was up with this b***h? Mattie scowled. She was wasting time.
"Who the hell are you?" He demanded. She looked stunned, then smiled grotesquely. He spotted a lipstick smear on a tooth. Whore.
"I'm your betrothed, silly!" She fluttered her eyelashes at him. Mattie nearly dry gagged.

Um... what the huh? Marquis had become awfully confused in the last minute. Alright, so Mattie had him pinned up against a wall, some crazy Slytherin chick appears and... they’re betrothed? Who the hell even used that word anymore? No-one in England, as far as he knew. Still... what better chance to escape? Mattie’s grip had lessened considerably with the girl’s arrival and, gingerly, Marquis reached up and begun detangling his robe from the larger boy’s grip. He went slow, hoping to avoid detection, and as the girl kept yabbering, he was met with success!
Time to duck and run? Oh yes. He didn’t want to get involved in any pre-marital disputes, that was for sure!

Gods, Damnit! Marquis was getting away! Mattie scowled and faced Whats-her-name completely. What the hell was her problem, anyway? It wasn't like Mattie had ever shown any kind of affection towards her whatsoever. She just had to keep tagging on for that damn family title. Well he didn't give a damn. He raised his fist and she shrieked.
"Don't you dare! I'll tell again!"
Mattie froze. Last time she told on him for giving her a black eye, he'd almost been kicked out of the family. Not that he'd mind not being associated with the lot of them, but he wasn't capable of supporting himself. Mattie lowered his fist and turned in the direction Marquis went.
"You stay away from him!" He heard her screech at him. Yeah, whatever.
"Marquis!" Mattie shouted, after he was sure he'd reached a safe distance. Oh, come on. "Gryffindork! Where the hell are you?"

Oh how fascinating. They came in smaller sizes too. Piper was happily babbling away about nothing at all really. Humans were so... So... Oh, what's the word...
"Weird." She tried. Yes. That was it. Weird. "And honestly, I never had a fondness for turkey, either."
She waved the subject off with a swift and far too nimble hand that reached up and poked her glasses back into place. Her smile cracked wide open. "But it is rather fun to carve. Don't you think?"
This smaller human didn't seem at all unsure, like the last one. She didn't even have to persuade him to talk to her. How interesting~ He even seemed a little relieved. Oh this would be fun. She toyed with the scissors in her robe pocket and wondered maybe if she got a new shade of handle, the blood wouldn't stain so much. "But the cranberry sauce, now that's a different, oh, what do you say... Story?"

Call Marquis oblivious, but when he found another student loitering around the halls, he walked straight up to her. Mattie didn’t seem the type to accost him in front of another student, so he quite happily struck up a conversation with this girl. Never seen her in his life, but what did that matter? That other chick, the scary one, he could still hear her screeching at Mattie in the background. A part of him was almost sorry for the Slytherin, but then, it had been the perfect chance to run. So here he was, safe, and making small talk.
”What’s wrong with turkey?” He replied, bemused. He’d never met anyone who didn’t like turkey, before. ”I’d think’a roast lamb’d be easier ta carve though, yanno? Less bones’n stuff in the way.”
What, it was strange for a first conversation to be about carving meat? Never occurred to Marquis. Neither did the girl’s strange way of speaking. ”Oh nah, not a fan of cranberries at all, mate. M’much more fond of gravey, compliments tha meat better if yer askin’ me.”
Though, something did click in Marquis’ brain. ”Whaddid ya say yer name was, ‘gain?”

"Turkey's too dry. Not enough... oh what is it. Juice?" The girl Marquis was talking to had a very odd accent. One Mattie had certainly never heard before. She also had massive glasses and a cloak that was much too big for her. She looked like she was composed of nothing but skin and bones. Mattie scowled. He couldn't very well tackle Marquis when he was in the middle of a conversation. There'd be a witness!
"Lamb? Oh my. Never heard of it. I'll have to try it. Is it a bird?"
Weirdo. Her glasses were freakin' huge, Mattie mused. He hung back in the shadows and made fun of them to himself. She must be bloody blind without them. The girl turned her head a bit. ...What the ********? Her pupils were specks of white floating in complete blackness. Mattie moved forward out of the shadow of the hallway to make sure he saw correctly. The girl must've seen him, since she immediately moved the glasses back to block his view of her eyes. Whatever the hell she was, she wasn't human.
Mattie thought about leaving. Nah, only wimps left when there was danger. Then he thought about Marquis. Did he know how to handle himself around danger? Did Mattie care? Ordinarily, no, but what if Marquis got himself killed? Would Mattie die too? Mattie's head swarmed with questions. It was probably best to leave and come back on his own.
"Marquis. We gotta go." Mattie said with a low urgency, keeping his eyes on the girl. Thing. Whatever.

Oh Marquis, you’re so oblivious. Even the lamb comment didn’t seem to thorw him off, although he did give the girl a very strange look. ’Ow can you’ve never heard’a lamb ‘fore? S’most eaten meat ‘round, other than chick’n.”
He heard those footsteps at the door again, Mattie’s he knew by now, and glanced over at him. His look was ever so slightly smug: Ha, I got away from you, now what? The blonde boy had no idea he’d just walked into worse trouble than being accosted by a fellow student. Ulike Mattie, he wasn’t as judgemental about people’s appearances unless they were completely nutty – like that Vita chick, she was a loony – so this girl’s glasses and cloak hardly made an impression on him. She was interesting, anyway.
”The hell’s’yer problem, Medici?” Came his rather cross answer, not liking how the other boy was stalking him. Good gods, it was just a gun! ”M’just talkin’ here, aren’t we... er... whaddid you say yer name was ‘gain?” He turned back to the girl, all pleasant and sunny smiles.

"You eat those things?" Came Piper's confused reply. Mattie got steadily more edgy. This girl was not only not human, she was steadily moving fast out of the range of normal. "Huh," She quipped. "I never really liked their essence, is what I meant."
Essence. What the hell was that from. Mattie racked his brain and came up with nothing. She was not human, didn't eat meat, and she took human form. What the hell, why did it matter? Augh, see, this is why he wanted a damn gun. Mattie was scowling already when both pairs of eyes, well one pair of eyes, one set of whateverthehelltheywere, were looking at him.
"Exactly. What is her name?" ]Mattie glared venomously at the girl. He took a step forward, purposefully invading their little conversation bubble. The girl looked quite upset, almost near tears.
"Why would you ask that? I thought you were nice." Ink black tears ran down her now sallow cheeks, and her skin slowly dyed itself a pale blue. Her hair seemed to bleach itself from the tips, and a soft, deathly glow that might've always been there became a little more evident. She fiddled in her coat pocket, and brought out a pair of scissors. Mattie swore. She cracked a grin again that was unnaturally wide.
"Oh well. I suppose it had to end eventually." She took a swipe in Marquis' direction, but Mattie got to him first, pulling him back by the nape of his jacket. Mattie scrambled backwards, and hissed, "Run," before bolting off in the other direction.
