Yarah kept looking between Tanto and Xane. This isn't gonna end well, is it? Eh. If it was going to end in a fight, he might as well not try to stop it or else risk getting caught in the middle.

He followed Tanto into the room and unleashed his shields. Oh. I was not expecting him to suddenly get bigger for this fight. He shouldn't have expected Tanto to stay in his initial form for their spar. Somehow I get the feeling that a spar with Tanto means a mini-war for anyone else. That was fine with Yarah. He needed the training.

He stepped closer to Tanto and got into a defensive position. "Ready whenever you are big guy."

Tanto nodded and looked over at Xane. "Will you be joining in as well?" he asked, coldly polite.

Xane smirked, removing his coat. In a burst of flame, his wings sprouted from his back, and the metal patterns in his skin started to glow red-hot, like heated iron. His torso was covered in flames, white-hot sparks running up and down his arms and chest.

"What do you think?" he asked, eager to get on with the fight. He could not defeat the Superior, but, at the very least, he would show him that he was no entirely useless. He spread his arms, and a pack of wolves suddenly jumped from the pyre around him, made of the same flames as those of their birth. Xane almost smiled as he thought of how easy that came to him now. It had take ten long years to be able to do that.

He settled into a fighting stance, the flames still lapping about his body.

"Ready when you are, Superior," he said.

"Of you? Not much, really," Tanto drawled in a bored tone of voice, in response to Xane's question. He had seen far too many things in his 6500+ years of existence to be impressed by a flashy amateur mage.

Taking a single gigantic step, Tanto's sword flashed in a silver arc and slammed against Yarah's shields almost before he could get them up, not causing anything other than a startled flash across Yarah's face and signaling the start of their match.

Following the strike through, Tanto casually threw a pulse of Chaos into the summoned wolves, warping their forms and either outright dispersing them or turning them into...

... Two bananas, what appeared to be a shark made of smaller sharks, and a leather vest.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:06 pm

Since only one of the summonings even posed a minor threat - and Tanto had killed his share of sharks before - Tanto turned from the creatures to their creator.

Being that Tanto was using Arts-Demonic and not Vanilla magic, his casting moved at the speed of thought as he whipped his arm up and held it straight out; opened his palm and aimed it at Xane; released a ferocious blast of pure kinetic energy straight into his chest. The blast should throw the Demon-Minor back into the wall and, if he wasn't strong enough, knock him unconscious outright.

Of course, Xane was also a Demon. If he thought fast enough, then he might be able to lessen the blow with some energy of his own.

"Shall we?"

Snksnksnksnkchnk.

"Less whining." Edward came in low at Tanto - against Arts-Demonic, being in the air would just mean being an easy target for a quick blast. He had an attack in mind, but what he was really waiting for was Tanto's response.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:23 pm

Tanto took a broad step backwards, out of the way of Edward's attack. Unfortunately, this meant two not-so-great things: first, that his attack on Xane was disrupted before it could really take effect, meaning it would be less of an impact on Xane's mana; secondly, Tanto couldn't maneuver his huge sword fast enough to counterattack Edward, merely dodge.

If Yarah made an attack at this point, it would be problematic. Tanto responded by sending a kinetic blast at Yarah - or, in Yarah's direction, since he wasn't really looking. But he could feel the smaller Demon easily, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Yarah supposed there was something to be said about people with arrogance coming out their very pores. And that something had to be the fact that Tanto easily missed hitting Yarah while he was running towards the Demon-Major.

Really Tanto? I dodge and defend. And I am damn good at it too. He had to be in order to survive as a field medic. This time is different. I don't have to worry about healing loads of people in the middle of a battle. It felt good to focus on the fighting.

Yarah chose to attack focusing magic in one of his hands. If he landed a hit on his enemy, then the energy in his hand would go straight through the muscle and awaken the nerve endings to make Tanto feel excruciating pain. Normally, he'd try to atrophy anything near the area that he touched, but this was just a light spar. He wouldn't do anything too dangerous.

Tanto hadn't counted on Yarah being able to dodge the broad attack; it was less a matter of being proud, and more a matter of underestimating his teammate. Instead of angering Tanto, this actually made him considerably happier; he had actually underestimated a teammate. Typically, he overestimated them and they wound up dying.

His body registered a great amount of pain - that would be an excellent weapon. Y'know, against someone else. As it stood, Tanto had spent a full 3400 years training himself to ignore pain as an object of the flesh, similar to the training that ancient warriors had gone through. He knew he was in pain, and he acknowledged that someone without his training would very likely be incapacitated by this attack. As it stood, he was very happy with it.

He showed this happiness by bringing his arm - the one that hadn't been struck by Yarah's attack - around and grabbing Yarah by the head with his gigantic hand. He could have simply squeezed, but realized that this was a friendly spar...so he instead threw the Demon-Minor at Ridley before launching a kinetic pulse at the both of them to keep them off-balance. He followed this move with a downward chop of his sword.

"It happens. Careful there!" Corhir replied, adding some unneeded advice to Yarah as he jumped over him.

And used his body as a springboard.

Clksnkkk-kk-kk-kk--kk--kkkk-kkk-k-kktt!

As he sailed over Tanto, he released the blade's sheath, allowing it to extend for a few seconds before locking about two thirds of the way down the blade, slamming it against Tanto's sword arm (while, coincidentally, his hair ignited from a flood of Corhir's power). If it struck, he would probably be able to land atop Tanto and redirect himself before Tanto's arms could be at him; if not, he would be able to deflect off the wall for a second attack run.

Corhir commented. Ridley grinned fiercely in agreement as his mana and Corhir's mingled, preparing to discharge with the strike.

He'd not expected to be grabbed by the head. It's my head! I like my head just the way it is! Then again, he should be happy; Tanto didn't squash him or hurt him. He just threw me aside like a bag of potatoes.

"You're welcome, Ridley," he called out as the man used him as a trampoline to get to Tanto. A slight hit to me, but at least I get a tiny break and he gets to fight Tanto. It all worked out.

He twisted himself midair and landed in a crouch on the ground. Dunno if my trick did any harm. Too bad, I really wanted to see some results. He jumped back into battle while thinking of anything else he could do. I'm not letting him grab my head again like that - I'll slice his hands with my shields before he gets that close again. He'd force the magic towards his legs this time. Arms for defense, legs for attack.

Tanto grunted as his personal mana field absorbed the majority of Ridley's strike. He was impressed by the human's strength, though that wasn't saying much; Tanto had known some truly impressive human magicians, and even their power paled compared to his. The strike was lacking in focus, though its raw power was considerable, and Tanto certainly felt it ring through his body.

However, he was prepared for this. After Ridley struck, he pulled the hypothetical rug out from under the mage by shifting back into his own human form, purple eyes flaring as he spun quickly and blasted the airborne Ridley repeatedly with blunt kinetic force. By the time he reached the ground or wall, Ridley would have been slammed quite a few times if he didn't do something fast.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 10:05 pm

"Shush, Corhir," Ridley gasped out as he attempted to land on nothing.

"No."

"No!" He bounced off the ceiling, using jets of mana from his limbs to reorient himself.

"Shush," he repeated as he rode one of the kinetic strikes, catching it and dispersing its force into a shove that pushed him against the ceiling; he ran along it upside down until the force expired, then flipped onto the ground.
Corhir cooed. Ridley didn't bother to respond. This was a training exercise, not a fight. But then maybe then it would be okay to channel her power fully, since he didn't have to worry about going overboard against enemies. Well.
"Another notch won't hurt." He slid the sword down one more notch, locking it at nine of the twelve runes being active. His eyes flared - literally, with fire. Now that he had the blade mostly exposed, he had several more options for his attacks. He opened his newest assault by a short sprint, followed by releasing jets of fire and mana to maneuver for a low-flying aerial attack, firing off small fireballs to keep his attention. Ideally one of his allies would get the idea to make a move while the flaming, flying man made himself obvious.

When Tanto turned into his human form Yarah ended up being right in front of him. "Hi there!" If Tanto hadn't been aware that Yarah was there, then the well placed kick to the face was a wake-up call.

Twice now was Yarah able to land a hit on the larger demon. Twice! This made him a bit proud. Maybe I'm not as bad as I thought I was. He'd have to remember to thank Ridley for this opening.
