The younger woman blinked once or twice, fighting the flush that threatened to rise to her cheeks from Anolani's words. "Yes, Ma'a - Anolani," she corrected herself. "I'm glad to be of use." She removed her hand from the older woman's leg briefly to clear her hair from her face, immediately regretting having done so, as securing a grip on a wet calf proved somewhat difficult.
Eventually, she chose instead to slip her hand up to a firmer grip around Anolani's knee, her face heating as she felt the black chiffon of the demoness's dress bunch around her wrist and claws. Her face still caught in stoic readiness, she blinked away her embarrassment. I'm going end up tearing this woman's dress before we're through. The very thought made her want to drop through the floor.

Seeing as the bull summoner was a decent ice elementalist, she felt safe enough to have a few seconds to herself. She ran her hand through her wet hair before looking down at the werebeast. Anolani had seen the girl blush as she ended up moving her hand further up her leg. Well isn't that cute? "Don't worry about the dress, if it needs to get shredded, then go ahead and do it." She preferred her life to her flimsy dress. They owe me a new dress now. It was going to be difficult to get the damn wet rag off of her now that it was all clingy to her skin.
At least she could console herself in knowing that she wasn't the only other girl who'd lost a decent dress. The other woman's grip on her knee started inching up so that her hand was now just above her knee. "Damn!" She'd taken a second too long to stop because she'd just seen another weak spot in the ice barrier. Live first, everything else second.

Having ended his assault on the Lucifex once the ice shield and knife assault had begun, Victor walked wearily back to Anolani and Rose. "Good job," he murmured, then whipped his head around to stare at Rose.
"And who is this?" He studied her mana as she responded, figuring out how best to manipulate her.

Rose nodded and readjusted her grip slightly. "Understood," she said. She flicked her eyes at Victor as he approached and swallowed once.
"My name is Rosetta Franklin, or Rose, for ease of use; to whom do I owe the honor, Sir?" Her voice remained decidedly flat as she returned her focus on her main objective. Victor would see the simple, dormant mana of a werebeast as he watched her. As for Rose's own mana-sensing abilities, she identified his shadow magic as the smell of nightshade. Anolani's scent was more like mint.

He almost wrinkled his nose in disappointment. There was no pleasure in manipulating someone who was so eager to be commanded anyway.
"Victor le True," he said briefly. "A pleasure, I'm sure I'll come to think." He looked back at the fight. "Tell me Rose, Anolani, other than what we're already doing, any ideas on how to end this quickly? I've got about one more strike in me, a good one, then I'm out for today."

"I would add my barrier to that, but the holy light just isn't doing it for me," Jace commented, shrinking behind a table to escape its shine.
"That light won't last forever, you know. We need a more permanent solution to this problem," Morgan pointed out, covering his eyes with his hand. "Any suggestions?"

Johnstone shuddered. "You mean that isn't enough to take it out? Can we perhaps contact someone external who's capable of bringing it down faster? Or... can we trick it into absorbing something's characteristics? Glass, perhaps?" His mana was still failing.

"You," Victor snapped to Rose, taking control right away. "Call for backup. Get someone that's actually good at fighting this thing. If you're not back in five minutes, then I'll kill you myself. Go."
That done, he turned to the rest of them. "I like the idea that bull-f** has. Make it absorb something else. Panzer guy, you direct it towards Knife-man. Knife-man, you get it set up to absorb something else. Other than that, keep it busy until backup arrives. Let's do this."
Victor stood by to insta-rescue anyone with his Shadow portals.

Now, Anolani was just a wee bit stressed out. Probably the only thing keeping her grounded (pun intended) was Rose. "Like hell she's leaving me here," she snarled. "You porting me places keeps me disoriented which is something that we don't need right now." She continued to hold down the ice shield. "Why don't YOU call for help, and let Rose take care of me here?" She turned to sneer at Victor, "or do you think you can do a better job of keeping me safe and stable while holding that damn thing down?"
What had also bothered her is that he could have left and gotten reinforcements - his shadows could surely bring back help, couldn't they?

Rose shifted her eyes from Victor to Anolani. Whether one had higher ranking than the other was unclear; she stayed put. Besides, requesting outside aid was admitting defeat. There were two ways to put out natural fires - suffocation and cooling. Cooling wasn't working. Suffocation wouldn't work on a magical source of fire, but another form of suffocation was smothering. It was also quite clear that holy magic worked remarkably well against this thing; in fact, it seemed afraid of it. Furthermore, it had gone from lower phases of matter to higher - solid, amorphous (admittedly, with an intermediate step), and now effectively gaseous or plasmic. As it was defeated, it was likely that it was dispersing more and more energy to keeping itself alive...
Rose pierced Victor's eyes with her gaze. "If there is some way to put a source of holy magic in there with it, then because its form has become progressively less and less stable, the added infusion of energy combined with the opposing magic should cause it to disperse beyond its ability to reform. That is my suggestion." She turned back to Morgan. "Sir- do you have another similarly enchanted knife?"

Victor began to seethe quite intensely at being so blatantly countered by the two women. They wouldn't listen to him, huh? Then they wouldn't receive his help.
Obviously, as Victor thought, if Morgan had had another knife, then he would have used it by now. It was foolish - still in Victor's mind, here - to think that he had another and was holding out on them. Victor waited to be proved right.

"If you can't come to some agreement," Johnstone grunted, "then we'll all die. Stop arguing and do something productive."

Aaaaand, an outlet for his anger presented itself!
"Oi!" he shouted, flicking his angry and blind gaze at Johnstone. "Not only are we not arguing, but you are not in command here. If I'll listen to anyone, it's them," he threw his head towards Jace and Morgan, "because you're just another peon without a rank. So how about you just focus on keeping that thing trapped while we get some backup in here?"
Thus sating his anger, Victor sat down heavily in a miraculously standing chair, rubbing his head and waiting for some kind of response.

"Well, seeing as I wasn't really referring to you," Johnstone commented. He considered bringing up his status as a Resurrected. If that didn't command some respect, then the little b*****d probably deserved the flailing he deserved even more than Johnstone figured he did. "And - you could still try doing something - productive, which you seem averse to."

"Oh, would that make you happy?" Victor asked hotly as he took his feet again, mere seconds after sitting. "And what, my dear sir, would you ask me to do?"
He advanced on Johnstone now. Victor was younger, tougher, and probably quicker to fight. And Johnstone was probably rather focused on not dying to the Lucifex.
"You want me to hit it with more attacks that won't do anything? Would it make you happy if I wasted my mana and couldn't help with killing it in the end? Because I can do that - I'm sure as s**t happy to leave the ******** room and let you die."
Victor's face was less than a foot from Johnstone's at this point. "So, what'll it be? Big Mr. Resurrected thinks he can command a Unified? You think you're better, or you're gonna back the ******** off and stop wasting my time?" He could easily tell that Johnstone was a Resurrected because of the strange magical fluctuation that it caused.
