For a bit he wasn't quite sure what was going on. He had never heard her talk like that before and she'd certainly never acted like it. Of course, it was apparent that she had thought he was dead. Every action could pretty much be explained by that worry.
"You called..." He said finally smiling back at her. Next time he would make sure that she was awake to understand where he was going so he didn't send her into another panic. For now, he would put his search to an end. It didn't seem like there would be much for him to find anywhere near and he wanted to make sure that she was okay. That meant staying near to her.
"Won't lose me." He looked over her once and frowned before nudging her. "Sleep. I'll stay." Right now, she needed the rest more then anything.

'You sure?' Fox said, letting Lamb move her back inside. It was true, she could see that now - now he'd come back. So weak...body and mind and she lowered herself back down onto the ground, curling her tail around her hind legs.
'Come lay down with me?' she asked, her voicely strangely plaintive. She'd lived most of her life alone, grown up alone, slept alone, travelled alone. Fox was too tired for that, and at least for this time, and this night she wanted proper company, the support of somebody who right now was stronger than she was.

He considered this for a little while as he led her back. She deserved a completely truthful answer. As she lay down he had come to the conclusion that he could not claim that she would never lose him. He couldn't live forever after all.
With a small questioning smile and a tilt of his head he met her request and lowered himself to the ground. He moved as close to her as he could without touching unsusre of how close she would actually let him get before opening his mouth to give her his thought out answer. "Won't lose...until I'm old." He said completely seriously.
Hopefully this would be a satisfactory answer for her. It was truthful and by the time that he was old enough to fade away, he imagined that Fox would probably be long gone. It was a heartbreaking thought for him, but that was just the way things were. "Now rest...you need..."

Fox pulled herself across the ground, nesting against Lamb, closing her eyes as she felt the warmth of his body against hers. It was..too long since she'd allowed herself this weakness, this comfort. She let out a sigh, letting herself relax, untensing.
'I'm older than you at any rate.' she voiced what he hadn't said, her eyes opening. She tilted her head so that she could look at him, see his face.
'Would you miss me if I was gone?' she asked, hoping he would answer with words, she was too tired to decipher his body language and expressions just now.

Lamb wasn't sure why she was stating the obvious to him. He'd found her when he was still a foal when she was fully grown after all. It didn't much matter why though, she turned to look at him and he smiled back.
The smile vanished quickly as she voiced a question. "I would..." He said slowly, sadly, as he lowered his head to the ground. It hurt him to think about it. The day that Fox would leave him forever would be a difficult day for him to cope with. In his mind he added to himself, more then you'll ever know, but chose not to voice this allowed. Fox had her answer, she didn't need more.

'Don't be sad..I'm a tough old bird,' Fox joked, her eyelids heavier by the moment. She had to sleep, but she also had to extend this moment. She knew that in the morning there was a chance she would regret her behaviour, try to bluster past it and pretend that none of this had ever happened. That she was a cool, collected fighter and nothing touched her heart.
'Lamb..she said his name quietly, moving so that her nose touched the side of his, and she looked at him.
'I hope I won't go anywhere for a long time. I hope you won't either.' she moved again, brushing her mouth against his ear.
'You're special to me,' she whispered, her head swaying as her fatigue grew. 'I l..' the word was unfinished as she passed out into, this time into a deep sleep, her head sliding, resting on his neck.

Her sense of humor was lost on him once again because she was not a bird at all. He was not sure how calling herself one would make him feel any better. His ears twitched hearing his name and his nose did as she touched the side of it. Once again his ears moved and he shuddered lightly as she touched them.
He wasn't sure why she was doing any of it but it felt strange in a very good way. "You too..." He murmured softly wondering what exactly she was on about. 'I l...' was the last thing he heard. At the moment he felt very confused. He could feel her sleeping on him, something she had never done before and then there was everything that she had said and done earlier.
He didn't want either of them to go anywhere either and she was special to him. There was one thing bothering him though. What was she going on about an isle for? It didn't seem to fit at all. He sighed lightly and let his eyes slip closed. He would ask her about it in the morning. For now he needed to find someway to make himself sleep.
Slowly the end of his tail began to twitch and tap the floor of the cave like a metronome. He counted each beat in his head until they slowed and became quite random and then they stopped altogether as the dark stallion fell into sleep. Almost as though it had a life of it's own his tail moved in the dark and wrapped itself around Fox before stilling once more.
