“Dude, that’d be hella sick; I love takin’ a look at other people’s ideas for tattoos. It gives me a little more practice in trying to get their ideas just right. As for Verdant… well, pain usually doesn’t have quite this effect on most people, but he gets pretty loud if you let the pain go on long enough.” Adam grinned as he finished Verdant’s first tattoo. It looked pretty damn awesome, if you asked him. He pointed towards the ink and asked, “So, what do you think?”

"Looks pretty good," Faolan admitted, looking the design over. "You ever do tattoos for couples? I wouldnae mind bringin' my wife in here for somethin' a little more permanent than this." He held up left hand, showing off the length of red ribbon tied there.

"I think it looks pretty good too." He looekd up at Faolan with a huge grin on his face. He knew he would come around! "I've done a few tattoos for other couples. They're usually identical tattoos or each other's names and stuff like that. You know, same ol', same ol'." Adam stared intently at the red ribbon, noting how it was looking frayed and worn. "Yeah, maybe something permanent would be a good idea."
The young incubus turned back to his friend, who was now sleeping quite peacefully. "Meh, I'll just start on the next tattoo." He grabbed the black ink and began to outline the tribal moon band on Verdant's right arm.

"I was thinking maybe a design that sorta matched, but was part of a whole when we had our arms together," Fao said, looking down at the ribbon. "Most didikai donnae really bother with replacin' the ribbon once it wears away, but Elle deserves somethin' to show everyone that I'm hers and she's mine and that's how it'll always be."

"Aw, that'd be cute. Very sentimental, if you ask me." Adam continued inking in Verdant's tattoo as he listened to Faolan. He was never that great with remembering stuff about people, but Faolan had really begun to interest him. He hadn't known that he'd be intriqued by somebody else's culture, but the didikai sounded pretty cool. "So, would you mind filling me in a little more on the didoo-kay? I must say, I'm pretty interested now.

"Didikai," Faolan corrected gently. "And there ain't much to fill in. We're nomads and entertainers. The clan I belong to run Farstep Carnival. You should come by some night."

"Oh, sorry; I never was good at pronunciating. So, this carnival, what's it like? Ya got games and elephants there? I love elephants! And cotton candy too!" Adam was suddenly very excited about the prospect of seeing elephants; he loved elephants.

"We have a small herd of elephants. Like, three, I think," Faolan said, tilting his head in thought. "Cotton candy, though, we have lots of." He smiled, eyes closing slightly. "Farstep's a great place. Most didikai-run carnivals are."

"That is so awesome! Dude, I have never been to a carnival before; neither has ol' nymph boy here." He was done with one of the wristband tattoos, so on to the other one. "So do a lot of didikai run carnivals or do they do other things?"

"It depends. A didikai carnival is usually run by a clan, like how Farstep is run by the Grady Clan. All the members of that clan pretty much work the carnival in some way or other. A lot of clans find the safety and draw of having a carnival appealing. It's work and it keeps everyone together. Other clans do other things, but whatever didikai do, it's in the vein of somethin' that'll keep the clan together," Faolan explained, shrugging slightly. He'd never had anyone other than Elle show much interest in his adopted people before.

"Huh... it sounds nice, to be a part of such a close-knit clan. See, Verdant and me, we did a little research on our races and families are not part of the equation. When was the last time you heard fo a monogamous nightwalker, you know? They get somebody knocked up and leave the kid with some foster family. Verdant doesn't even have parents; he came out of a freaking flower." Was that why he was so interested in Faolan's culture?

Faolan licked his lips, looking down. "I'm an orphan, too. Me birth father is apparently some big scary guy in one of the Five Families an' tried to kill me as a baby. Me dam stole me away and abandoned me on the steps of a church. She was killed by me father an' the Grady Clan found me."
He looked up again. "Now I got a beautiful wife and twins on the way. Me da's a great guy, better'n the man that sired me, true enough. I think sometimes family is what you make of it. By all rights, I shouldnae be here, me birth father tried to kill me an' almost succeeded, but I am here and I've done me best to make a good life for meself. Sometimes that's all one can ask for, eh?"

He looked down at Verdant's sleeping form and frowned. If only he'd get it through his thick skull... "I guess some people just have a hard tiem realizing they have what they want, huh?"

Besides, it's not like anyone can foresee the outcome of each and every answer. Even tarot cards can be wrong sometimes." Adam gave Faolan a small wink and grinned. "Now, how about you help me flip Verdant over. I need to do the other tattoos, mainly the wings..."
