He'll soon be a master with the cards. That's what he was hoping for. He nodded, and would have smiled back had he had a mouth. "How do I start?" Let's continue on then, now that we're ready.

Lee's eyes fell and her posture sank. Quite a wake up call, that was. Even if she did snag Faolan, he'd be miserable, and that's not even including how Ellandra would feel. Lee couldn't see it any other way; she wouldn't be rescuing him, she'd be tearing him away from his wife. The girl thought back to the first time she'd heard about Faolan, when Ellandra was visiting for the first time. She looked so happy talking about her boyfriend; could Lee really sacrifice what they had for her own pathetic crush? She couldn't, and she wouldn't. Not now, at least. Perhaps, in time, their relationship would fade; now though, they seemed to be very much in love. Don't tamper with that. No one with any shred of morality could do such a thing. Besides, Ellandra was supposed to be her friend. Love was worth fighting for, like he'd said, but there was no doubt Ellandra would be fighting as well, and she had the upper-hand already. The best Lee could hope for was for the two to break up someday, a terrible thought, sure, but it was better than flat out stealing someone's husband. She didn't think about how far away that would be, if such an unlikely event would happen at all, nor did she want to ask herself if she'd even still be interested in Faolan after such a long period of time. As impatient as she was, she'd have to wait and see.

She couldn't look him in the eyes anymore; not out of embarrassment of the situation, but out of deep shame. "That's okay..." He'd been very helpful, in a depressing sort of way. "Nothing else, I guess." She pushed herself off the bed and bit her lip as she looked to the floor. "Thanks though, Faolan. I mean, you sure I don't have to pay you? I just feel kinda bad." That was true; though not so much about the money as it was about the whole "thinking of taking you from your wife" thing.

Ziazan picked up the book on tarot cards and flipped to the section about patterns, then turned the book so Lauss could see it, tapping the page. "After shuffling, you either lay out a pattern--this here's a simple one--or let the person you're doing the readin' for cut the deck and draw cards."

Faolan shrugged, reaching out to take the girl's hand in his. "Sorry it weren't much help to you. Maybe there's still room in his life for you, though." Perhaps he did know who she was interested in after all, but he'd never tell if he did. The girl was allowed her secrets. He pulled her back towards him with a gentle tug on her hand. "You'll pay, sure. I never said you wouldn't. Only said I wouldn't take your money." A mischievous look flashed in his eyes, playfully seductive smile tugging at his lips.

Lauss watched over the book as Ziazan talked, studied that pattern shown in the book, and laid the cards accordingly. He looked back to the book and to the cards again, making sure they matched. "This is correct, isn't it? Now what?" Ziazan was a wonderful teacher; Lauss wondered if he knew that or not.

This was a little embarrassing. Holding hands with him; shouldn't make a habit of it, should she? "N-no, I mean, it was helpful, I just--" Gah, w-what's he doing?! Being pulled closer to her half naked crush caused her to stumble a bit and blush yet again. What a tease; then again, he didn't know he was the one she had a crush on, right? But still, how embarrassing, especially with his last words. "L-like what?" Heart racing, she had to keep herself from tugging against his grip. Only natural she was assuming the worst. She hoped she was wrong about what he meant...

"Um, yes. That's right, Lauss, but you really don't lay the patterns out in advance. You do it when the person wanting the reading is with you and you tell them what the cards mean as you lay it out, so they can follow along with what the fortune is. After the pattern's all out, you summarize it for them," Zia explained, only slightly taken back by its brother's eagerness. Well, Lauss certainly had a better handle on the cards than Rhian did sometimes at least.

Faolan smiled up at her, eyes half closed--expression not unlike a very pleased cat. "When I do readin's for people special to me, I tend to take payment of a special kind. It only seems fair now, don't it, lass?" He tugged on her hand again, getting her to stumble once more and caught her to his chest. "I only ask that you give me somethin' that you only can give away once."

Lauss' hands dropped back to the table. "Ah, I see." Try again! He gathered the cards back up, trying once more to get it right, this time following Ziazan's instruction. He shuffled again, just as slowly as last time, and held the cards out and tilted his head a bit as he did so. "Is this correct?"

Lee's eyes were huge as she brought her other hand up to her mouth. This is-- No. He can't... No! Seriously? NO! He was joking, right? Teasing? Her mind was just in the gutter, wasn't it? She took a few deep breaths, as deep as her body would let her anyway, trying to calm herself down a bit. She shouldn't let her mind wander, especially when Faolan was involved. "W-what would that be...?" She tried her hardest to seem nonchalant, though her small stuttered didn't help matters much.

Zia smiled, eyes half-closing in mirth. "Much better. You don't wanna do a reading on me, do you? I don't think the cards, no matter the deck, really work on me 'cause of what I am." And it didn't mean its being an Essentic.

"Your first real kiss," Faolan purred out, voice low and soft. Before the girl could protest, he pulled her to him, lips pressing to hers, and kissed her. He didn't know how much the girl knew on romance or if she'd find another boy to like since her first love wasn't going to pan out, but one thing was for sure--Lee would likely never be kissed again the way Fao was kissing her. There was no holding back, if there was, it wouldn't be anything more than some shy chaste kiss, and that simply wouldn't do to be considered her first true kiss. Tilting his head to the side slightly, his lips parted and the tip of his tongue lightly slid along the girl's own lips.

Lauss nodded with contentment. Good. "Very good" was pretty much an "A" right? He tilted his head at Ziazan's question, though. "Who else would I practice on?" If Ziazan couldn't, he wouldn't be able to practice today.

Wait, what? Before she had time to respond, her face was pressed up against his, and she was struck paralyzed with a kiss. Her first kiss. She couldn't move, could barely think, and couldn't rationalize what exactly was happening for a few seconds; Lee's mind was in a fog. Her brain began functioning again in an instant, in what seemed to be a jumble of conflicting emotions and thoughts all clashing together at once. The beating of her heart had never been faster. What was she supposed to do? Push away? Kiss back? Pass out? The third seemed most likely, and she almost melted to the floor as Faolan's head tilted and, well, all of that. She couldn't help it; Lee's hand reached up to Faolan's cheek, and she weakly kissed back, not even bothering to think whether or not she was doing it right.

I'm so sorry, Ellandra...

"Do a readin' for yourself, Lauss. Faolan does them for himself all the time," Zia said, smiling patiently.

After some long and rather pleasurable moments, Faolan finally pulled back, breaking the kiss and watching the girl with almost unreadable golden eyes. It was an odd request and he was sure the girl wouldn't understand, even if he tried to explain it, but Grandmother's deck always demanded a payment when used for anyone's fortunes but his own, be it in money or something more special. He'd long ago figured out the more special the person was he was reading for, the more special the payment had to be.

"I didn't . . . um, I didn't do that to be cheatin' on my wife," Faolan explained lamely.

That was possible? That meant he could practice any time he felt like it, even when Lee was at school. Lauss looked down at the cards in his hands, and pulled some out at random. Laying them on the table, he scanned the book for a similar arrangement of cards. This looked right. He pointed to a page and looked up at Ziazan. "It's this pattern, right?"

Lee stared at Faolan, looking for any sign of what that might have been about. He loved his wife. He would be miserable without her. So why? Realizing what she was doing, the girl dropped her head and looked to the ground. Wait, that just happened, didn't it? How embarrassing, how terrible. And she kissed back! She bit her lip and tugged at her skirt again, not sure what she was supposed to say after something like that.

But... wow. It was something else. Perhaps dating wouldn't have been such a bad idea, if kissing was always like Faolan made it seem.

She couldn't get herself to look up at him when he spoke again, but her facial expression clearly showed her confusion. Let's not ask, though. He'd tell her on his own if he wanted to. But honestly, such a tease. Stealing her first kiss like that and not even slightly interested in her. "D-do you think you'll tell her?" Lee didn't want to say Ellandra's name out loud. She felt too guilty, and it somehow would seem... disrespectful.

This was too awkward, wasn't it? "Maybe I should go..." She twiddled her thumbs and looked to the side, not sure she could handle that tour they were supposed to take after this.

Zia looked over the proto's shoulder and nodded. "Looks about right. You don't always have to use patterns, either. Sometimes just drawin' a card or two can tell you the answer to what you're wantin' to know."

Faolan licked his lips nervously. "No, I ain't gonna tell her. At least, not right away. It ain't exactly something I can explain properly, anyway. I told you how the cards were charmed, yeah?" At the girl's nod, he continued. "They want payment for services and not always money satisfies them. Sometimes, for some people--special people--they want somethin' priceless." He stood up, very close and somewhat towering over her in the small bedroom. "And I don't want you to go, lass. I didn't mean to make you feel . . . bad. If it's any consolation, you're a natural at kissin'. Not sure many girls have ever kissed me like that."

Lauss looked up at Ziazan and tilted his head. "I was supposed to ask a question? What kind of question should I ask?" He thought they just... told the future. So there was a trick to these, how sneaky.

I'm special? Big bright eyes widened even further, both a bit happy and surprised. So he'd stolen her first kiss for some cards? Lame. But at least he wasn't just fooling around because he felt like it. A little more respect was gained for Faolan after that. Lee couldn't blame him for not wanting to let Ellandra know about all that went on today, but she couldn't help but dread that somehow she'd find out on her own. When Fao stood only a small distance in front of her, she had two options: look at his bare chest or look up at his face for once. Her head tilted upward as he spoke, and she felt her face get hot with embarrassment. He's just saying that, isn't he? What if he's serious? Wow. Not knowing what to really say in return, she just gave him a small smile as thanks. "L-Lauss is probably driving Ziazan crazy in there..." She motioned to the other room and rubbed her shoulder. "So we really should head out." She shrugged, as if to say "I guess I have no choice, sorry."

"The cards need a focus so your fortune is more accurate, if that makes sense," Zia replied, nodding. It was proud that Lauss was not only interested in learning the tarot, but learning it quickly.

Faolan put a hand on the girl's shoulder, looking a bit concerned. He licked his lips, wanting to apologize again, but he wasn't exactly sure for what. Giving a soft sigh, he moved away to the dresser and fished out a t-shirt, tossing it on the bed before sitting next to it. After quickly gathering the cards up and putting them away, he leaned forward to reach under the bed, fishing for his boots . . . and inadvertently giving the poor girl a great view of his well-muscled back and tattooed line of runes down his spine.

"Give me a moment here, lass, and I'll see you home safely. It's gotten a bit late while we were readin' you the cards,"
he told her, still bent over and hunting for his left boot, the right one having already been found.

A focus, huh? Lauss didn't really have something like that. Let's think one up really quick, ne? "Would I be able to ask how I can help Miss Lee do well in school?" Lauss really didn't care about anything else. Love, wealth, family, none of that was important yet.

Lee's head tilted down as Fao's concerned face and lip licking was very difficult to gaze into without drooling a little. Not that his chest was much better, but at least he wouldn't actually be able to see her reaction. He never said anything, and it made her wonder what he was thinking. So she's free to go, just like that?

A shirt? At least he was putting some clothes on. Her thoughts faded as she noticed the tattoos on his back. So pretty... "What... what're those?" She nodded to his back and cocked her head. Fao was never dull, even when just looking at him.

"W-wait, do you know how far I live from here?" She had been planning on calling a ride. Surely he was expecting a quick walk home or something. Nu-uh, please don't follow me. If he ends up seeing my mom... The thought was almost too horrible to imagine. "Sh-shouldn't you wait for Ellandra? She'll probably be home any minute, right?"

"Help with a career would be a good path to check on with fortune telling. Our purposes are not unlike careers, I guess," Zia reasoned, looking thoughtful.

Faolan looked up from lacing his boots. "What are what?" And then it occurred to him she meant the runes down his back. He reached a hand back in utter limberness and touched at the tattoos, then smiled sardonically. "A gift. From my birth father." He went back to putting his boots on, then stood up and tugged on his shirt, not that the snug-fitting nearly thread-bare material helped at all in hiding the slim muscular build beneath it.

"Donnae worry none on how far it is. I donnae mind the walk. Zia can stay here and tell Elle where I went," Faolan said, giving a slight shrug. "Needed some stuff from outside anyway." And by outside, he mean off the carnival grounds, of course. "Ready to go home, ma bonny lass?" He held a hand out to her.

Wow. Lauss was actually out of questions. Ziazan really was quite amazing. Okay then, practicing may commence.

Lee looked down as mentioning the tattoos didn't seem like something Faolan was too eager to talk about. Sorry. Not that it didn't leave her with a number of questions, but it would just be wrong to ask if he obviously didn't have a favorable view of the subject. She couldn't help but watch him put on his shirt -- and laugh inwardly to herself at how ridiculously tight it was. Really, what was the point? Not that she was complaining, of course.

"A-alright." She sighed a bit, thinking that arguing with him won't earn his favor. "Y-you really don't mind walking all the way?" She tilted her head at looked up at him as he offered his hand. Please, please, please stop being so charming... She sighed and took his hand, blushing as she did. This wouldn't end well.

"C'mon Lauss, we're goin' home..." she spoke to Lauss in the next room. The proto looked up at Ziazan and nodded. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Ziazan. May I keep these?" He pointed to the cards on the table, wanting to make sure once again before heading off with them.
