Captain Amaranth Mylian It could be most commonly found floating, but I thing there's something about flying that would be a shame to lose completely. (And I was mostly replying aloud to myself regarding the structures. xd ) Certainly, I agree - but rather than have the whole city fly (which regardless of construction would require vast balloons); I imagined it would have an airship port tethered to it; almost constantly aloft. Ooh... My bad. And cable cars that ride the tethers! I still say that, if needed, the port dock can be reeled in and secured, allowing the entire city to be pulled aloft. The Vast Balloons can be easily reeled in when deflated. Perhaps the balloons could even be collapsible structures that expand into dirigible-like chambers? And when collapsed, the ends could be locked into the perimeter of the city, such that the lengthwise structures are vertical and the massive propellers on the opposite ends could be instead used as windmills to harness energy.

Kurisu of the Hellfire Captain Amaranth Kurisu of the Hellfire I do like the idea of a submerged/partially submerged/submersible city. It'll give us an excuse to romp around in diving suits blaugh Currently I'm favouring floating-city-with-submerged-buildings-on-the-underside. And yes, there will be romping. Hmm, I can just imagine it, a cocktail lounge with windows looking out into a coral reef. Definitely!

Precisely! The dock will definitely be able to be secured. I do like that idea, I really do, but I'm still reluctant to use it. Partly as to have balloons of sufficient size, massive housings and pumps would be required; most of the city would be just that! Even with creative license it seems a bit 'too much'. For some reason I am now imagining a vast fleet of airships being called in to lift the city out of trouble.

THE ANACHRONISM 2.0 (Yes, there will be romping.) Oh my goodness. I've got to do that now.

More sketches!

Two (more detailed, but still shoddy) sketches; showing:
- One concept idea for a floating city, modelled after a crescent (not necessarily the best, but I felt like doodling it) connected to a flying airship dock. Which unfortunately looks rather like a Necron Tombship. - A sunken city, based off large domes of (presumably very thick) glass.

xD I love the squid in your first drawing. I love them all. (Except for the cruise-liner and catamaran.) How about we make it a largish Neo-Victorian Transformer Construct? Then we'd have a guild mascot as well! (Don't worry. I'm kidding.) Post the demotivator if you get around to it?

love the sketches! and loving the crescent idea too!
hoever, what about inproving on the "Flying Dock" idea, and having a part of the city tethered but flying. airship docks, flying trade center, etc.
you could have the city built in a way that the higher classes and such get the under-the-sea district, then have factorys and such on a middle level, just above sea level, and finally, a trade district and airship dock on the flying section

Don't worry, there's much more up there than just the docks [I have an alarmingly detailed plan in my mind]. Ways I'd imagined it, there would be no real divisions like that; but there would be more expensive housing in both the flying and underwater sections (which are mostly laboratories and the like). Trade areas are where the docks are, of course.

[Even if you are kidding] Will do, mostly busy with exams right now, but doodling (see above) gets me through.

Ooo, I see you got around to sketching your ideas. This is what I was picturing, the detailed sketch is right next to it but I cut it off since it isn't finished. The bulbous part underneath would be the labs, the extension to the side would be the submarine dock and land for scientists to experiment on plants and such to isolate it from the actual crops. The funky sketchy thing on top is the air port built around the communal smoke stack that releases everything into the windstream so it isn't hanging over everyones head. There are three tiers around the smoke stack, two of which are hangers and docking for airships, one is like hotels, bars and such for the air ship travellers. The hill is where all of the plants are grown for the city, and the discs around the base are the general living areas for everyone. Underneath is the living area for the rich (because everyone wants an underwater lair!) Since is just a crappy line sketch you cant really get the picture of all the supports and lifts and such that allow everyone to get around. Picture

OwQ I must say, I lik the idea of a city on the waves, with tether floating airship docks.....but for some strange reason atlantis comes to mind thinking about it.
