Aubrey shook his head. "It's my pleasure. It'll be nice to be able to watch you enjoy it. Usually it's sold, so I don't know if anyone else likes them."
At the mention of childhood memories, the first to come up were the unfortunate accidents that had resulted in his isolation from the other families. His eyes downcast as he forced up the better memories of home.
"I... had a tendancy for bad luck as a child." He didn't need to elaborate, did he? "Nerves. Whenever something important was coming up, my sisters would bake a special bread with me. They called it my good luck loaf. It was a fluffy dough that cooked to a flaky crust with cinnimon and brown sugar topping. The three of us would eat the whole thing before whatever was coming up, and it was supposed to help give me confidence. Actually, it worked most of the time." A smile had crept up his mouth as he talked, enjoying the fond memory. He wondered how his sisters and parents were doing...

"That's cute." Irissë didn't know the extent of his bad luck but she continued, "I could help you bake the special bread...if I knew how to cook, that is." she giggled softly. "So I'm guessing you don't live with your parents anymore?" she asked tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, "My mother would kill me before she let me live alone." she couldn't help but smile wryly. "She's a strict woman."

Aubrey smiled. "I'd have to think real hard about that. I'm not sure I remember what was in the bread."
He shook his head. "Nope. I left once I was old enough to. They're a ways from here." He got up to check on the pie, a curious look on his face. "Your mom a bit overbearing is she?" He asked not unkindly as he pulled the pie out and set it on the counter. "We'll let this cool a bit first."

"Overbearing?" Irissë couldn't help but tilt her head,
"I think 'worrywart' is the more appropriate term." she clicked her hooves on the floor, "I couldn't even go to sleep without her hovering over me making sure my bed wouldn't collapse or if my hair was brushed properly. I'm sure if she found out I've been hanging out with a male centaur for half the day, she would surely think you raped me." she sighed, "It would be nice to live without her worrying about me so much."

Aubrey smirked. "That's just as bad." He said with a chuckle. "My eldest sister had a tendancy to do that with us." At the topic of her being alone in his home, a hot flush spread across Aubrey's face and he hurried to cover it by turning his head to inspect the pie. The thought had never crossed his mind once, but thinking someone else might think him doing that... "What does she expect you to do? Hide out in your home the rest of your life?"

Irissë played with her hair, not fazed, "No." she sighed, "She's going to find me another mate one of these days." the normally kind cervi couldn't help but sound bitter, "Provided the buffoon doesn't die on me." shaking her head she looked at Aubrey, "I-I'm sorry for that outburst. I couldn't help it."

Aubrey's eyes widened. Her mother chooses her mate? He didn't know anyone did that anymore these days. "May I inquire into said outburst? I know it's not my business, so you don't have to tell me." He smirked. "I'm probably just being nosey. I'm not used to having company to talk with."

Irissë looked down at her hands bashfully, wringing them, "No, no. It's nothing. Please don't think too much of it." But really, she didn't want a mate anymore. Living a single life would be much easier for her. Picking at her fingernail, she couldn't help but feel thankful that he had passed on.

"Is the pie ready?" she asked timidly.

Aubrey nodded bashfully. "I'm sorry. It really isn't my place to ask." He turned to look at the pie, touching it carefully, and nodded. "So, lets move past this odd moment and loose ourselves in pie." He said ceremoniously, cutting two thick slices out for both of them. After adding a sprinkle of cinnimon from a jar, he set the plates on the table. "Would you like a drink to go with it?" He asked, admiring as the pie innards continued to let off a faint steam. Still hot, but not burningly so.

"Please don't apologize. You did nothing wrong." she smiled at him, hoping that her smiling would show that she was alright with it. She really was - it was just uncomfortable for her to think about it.
She sniffed at the aroma of the pie with the cinnamon and sighed, "It smells wonderful. You really did a wonderful job Aubrey." She nodded, "What do you have to drink?" Irissë took a small forkful in her mouth, enjoying the taste immensly. "It tastes as good as it looks."

Aubrey nodded. "Okay." If she didn't want him worrying about it, he wouldn't.
He grinned broadly as he watched her taste the pie and seem to enjoy it. "Exellent. Lets see, there's always water, I've got a bit of milk, and some frozen juice, so I'd have to thaw that." He took a bite himself and groaned happily. It had turned out better than he'd expected.

"I would like some milk please." Irissë said politely. She stifled a giggle with the back of her hand, "You must really enjoy your own cooking, huh?" she smiled, "I'm sure your future mate and children would love you to bits."

Aubrey got up, grabbing a glass of milk for both of them. He smirked bashfully, cheeks slightly pink. "Well, I enjoy it when I make it well. This turned out great in my opinion."
A chuckle accented his smirk as he felt the back of his neck go hot. Future children... "I certainly hope sh-they like me for more than my cooking..."

Irissë tapped the fork thoughtfully to her mouth, "That's true. But either way, I'm sure they'd love you for who you are." she took another bite, enjoying the the little bits of apples.
"I'm sure." she glanced at him, "You found someone special. I'm sure women are all over you. Aren't they?"

Aubrey laughed, more at himself than at Irisse's guess. "No, not really. Had a teenage crush like everyone else, but I never got anywhere. It actually seem like I can never be more than just a friend to them, if that." He looked up quickly and shook his head. "No, I'm not gay." He laughed again. "Maybe I should be!"
