YAY! Graverg finally broke down and bought a Kindle!

You know what this means!? All those expensive books I wanted to get I can get for under $10 biggrin So much worth it.

I do love paper books more. But this is more green and cheaper in the long run. So I will deal with it. biggrin

I know that feeling. Growing up my room was also the default house library no matter where we lived. (Actually on Gaia while taking a break from packing his books now!) I don't know if I will ever be able to get an E-reader...but I said the same thing about cellphones and smartphones sweatdrop I did eventually give in, and have decided that my lil droid is pretty handy.

I still have little POS Sony Ericsons (primarily because my *good* Ericsson died because my cat decided it needed an overnight bath... in the water dish). I honestly can't see myself with a smart phone because I rarely use my phone for anything, even calls or texts. Handy they may be but... not necessarily with functionality as I would use. Can't justify the pricepoint for myself.

Also I feel old sad I remember when barely anyone had cellphones. Hell, I only got one when I was 16 because I started driving and my mom was terrified I'd get stranded halfway into down (which was about 20-25 minutes away with very little except vast woodland in between...). So I was one of the only ones not using the payphone in my highschool, but over in the LI the other day someone had to ask what a payphone even was D: It's not like they were in some country that doesn't have them either, the person was American..just young. Goodness. What a way to feel old and I'm only 23!!

But yeah. I probably wouldn't have gotten an e-reader myself, but just as the smartphone they do seem quite handy. Here I am lugging a couple books down to Graverg's parents' for the weekendwhile he breezes by with about 10 on his Kindle...so.... bah.

What's on Mame?
Ah, just an informal costume contest at a dance on Friday at the con I go to every year. Second year I actually decided to costume, this time I actually put a lot of effort into my make up and such (costume made by a friend but since it's informal they have purchased costume categories). So just a tiny bit disappointed that I didn't get anything because I worked really hard today making my makeup. And everyone else in my party was getting pictures taken and won awards and such but hardly anyone wanted my picture and no awards.

I know it's petty, but I can't help feeling a little disappointed. The first year I put effort into costuming this year (at this con) and nothing really.

But it will be no big deal by tomorrow. Tomorrow will be awesome regardless biggrin Panels and fun and stuff ^_^ Disappoint will fade quickly.

How much of it do you think is linked to character choice?

For the actual contest- not much at all since there was a couple categories for original character costumes and judge favorites (and one of the judges was fawning over my Trill spots).

For the other people probably 100% the character. It is just disappointing since I always hold the bags and beer (at dances) when they take pictures and I'm in plain clothes, so it's just a bit off putting to be in costume and still be the baggage holder. Though someone took a picture of me thinking that I was Erzi Dax and a few people ended up just taking a picture because of the spots.

It wasn't all bad. I was just a touch disappointed and considerably sore from the day's drive.

Today though everyone has been complimenting me on the Trill spots (going around in plain clothes, don't want to sweat out my costume too badly before Masq and dance tonight D: ), and asking me how I did them. The judge from the other night (who I also know to be a huge Star Trek fan and a member of the KAG X3) complimented me again on the spots I did today. So really, I figured it would all even out in the end and things would be fun.

It's just one of those things that.. you don't expect to win, but during the awards you get caught up in the buzz and excitement of the moment and when nothing happens it's still a bit of a let down...even though you weren't expecting anything to begin with.

So it's not a big deal and I am certainly over it. But you asked so I tried to explain the situation D:

Aw, thanks guys biggrin

There is a picture of my spot-work in the main picture post thread. I haven't gotten pictures off of my camera yet because it seems as though my SD card slot on my comp has died. Still trying to find a cord to connect with, but no luck so far. So pictures of the full thing won't be coming until I get this figured out.

The rest of con was certainly awesome. I saw someone propose to their partner in one of the geekiest and sweetest ways ever. It was so adorable, I teared up a little ;o; Other than that there was tons of fun panels and discussion...and I feel validated in my Trekkiness. I was the one who knew the most Star Trek at the Feregenomics panel. The least about real-world economics sweatdrop ... but the most about Star Trek biggrin And to be fair we had a couple professional accountants in the crowd XD

It was so much fun. I am in no way shape or form ready to come back to the pile of last minute quizzes, readings and group assignment that is the last week of school. Oh well XD

Urg. My temporary laptop finally died. I'm not *that* surprised, considering Graverg got it cheap-cheap because it had smoke damage already. I guess the crappy hotel room from convention that didn't vent properly and so was humid and gross. I'm just glad I backed up my stuff before disaster struck.

I'm just glad I have access to another computer, at least part-time, so I can finish up my last week of course D: But I'm not going to be around much until I can snag a new cheapie computer of my own.

Dr. Graverg to the rescue again it seems!

He helped me resurrect my dead laptop- go figure! It still is only a zombie though. It doesn't have a battery so it has to remain plugged in and the volume is forever stuck in the ON position at the highest setting... and the SD port is still fried so still no pictures D:

But it will serve me until I finish my courses anyway.

My old lappy died last week- I got a cute little Dell 14R for a good price and I'm really happy with it.
