"Hello?" Godfrey peered around the entrance of the Children's ward, where he'd been directed. He was wearing simple clothes, no jewelry, no belt, and was carrying a small present in his hands, wrapped simply in a thin tissue paper.
It was pink, made from non-toxic paper, and dyed with natural dyes, so... it'd be safe if anyone tried to eat it. He'd looked things up before even coming here, and had therefore passed inspection without much trouble.
"I'm here to see a boy named Kholby?" Godfrey looked around for a nurse, not knowing of course where any of the rooms were.

Kholby’s head emerged from a doorway before any of the disinterested nurses could respond to the boy’s inquiry; clad in comfortable satin pajamas and clutching a hand-stitched blanket decorated in lavender sheep, he looked years younger than his twelve years. “Godfrey?” he asked delicately.

Godfrey smiled at the boy. He didn't even know him at all, really, but he was just so cute Godfrey couldn't help wanting to wrap Kholby up in his sheep blanket and give him a hug. He knew Kholby had problems, of course, but it didn't change the fact that he was still just a little boy. Godfrey had noticed the sign in sheet didn't have any indication that anyone had visited Kholby recently. Who was his family?
"Hi Kholby." He said, giving a small wave. "I brought you a present, happy birthday! I hope you like it but it's okay if you dont."
Godfrey held out the small, floppy package. Inside was a fleece hat with big rabbit ears that stuck up, a stitched on nose and cute black eyes. It was hand made, organic, child friendly, and completely muggle. He'd bought it at the mall.

Kholby viewed the presented package with a thoughtful pout, fingertips tingling with the unfamiliar sensation of tissue paper touching his skin. “Mine,” he murmured, glancing up quickly as his face was drawn up into a beam of pure and childish delight. Immediately his hands tore at the paper, shredding its perfect wrappings in moments to reveal the soft article of clothing held within.
“Oh,” he said blankly.
A moment’s hesitation melted into another flurry of movement as Kholby abandoned the paper – which fluttered to the tile floor – and wrenched the long-eared hat across the top of his head, smashing down the natural uneven spikes of his hair.
“Pretty?” he asked apprehensively, looking somewhat nervous as he stepped back for Godfrey’s view.

Godfrey beamed right back, pleased that Kholby liked it, and that Kholby's pet rabbit might get to keep its ears for another day.
He watched Kholby put on the hat, beaming even more, if possible.
"Yeah, very pretty." It was so adorable, Godfrey tried not to twitch with the urge to hug. " It looks very good on you."

“Am I born now?” questioned the twelve year old curiously, raising his hands to experimentally tug on the ears of his new hat. Upon releasing them they sprang back in their upright position and the gesture seemed to please him to no end. He repeated the process several times. “My brother says Circi’s gonna come with cake. I don’t know if I want cake. Do you want cake?”
[Kholby and his mixed-up pronouns again.]

"Yep!" Godfrey said, nodding. "You're now part bunny."
Godfrey was very pleased he'd picked the right thing. He was worried about Kholby liking him, but he wasn't sure why. He guessed Kholby just reminded him of his little brother, and he wanted to make sure he knew the thing with his Papa was alright and it wasn't his fault. But it seemed as if he'd forgotten all about it anyways.
"Cake? ....... well, what kind of cake do you like? And I'll have some, if you say it's alright. It's your birthday cake, after all."

"Godfrey?" the Head of Hufflepuff House inquired with obvious surprise as she rounded the corridor corner with a dozen pink balloons gathered in her gloved fist. Her head tilted as she surveyed the two boys and the destruction of wrapping paper scattered between them. "I thought they brought Lockhart home?"

"Happy birthday, Kholby," Circinus added from where he lingered just behind London's left, wielding a large boxed cake and several delicately wrapped gifts.

Kholby's mouth quirked into a frown at the corners as he viewed the presents his newest visitors were to offer; nothing could top receiving the gift of being a partial rabbit.

"Professors!" Godfrey said, surprised to run into them outside of school, here of all places. He quickly took in the balloons, cake, and gifts.
"They did. I was just... I promised Kholby I'd come see him and bring him a present for his birthday." He was bewildered, looked from Kholby back to the two teachers.
"You're...." He pointed at Circinus uncertainly. "His .. brother? ... or........ "
His finger drifted to London, pointing somewhere around her boob level, his eyebrows raised in surprise. "Or... you're his ...brother?"

"I'm his sibling," London murmured as her eyes caught Kholby's briefly before returning to Godfrey's questioning face. "I find it best not to fuss over pronouns," she added, a slow smile forming in obvious affection for her brother.
"I didn't know you knew Kholby, actually. Did you meet him when you were visiting Lockhart?"

"... oh." Godfrey blinked, his cheeks flushing. "Yeah.... um... right."
Godfrey had been wondering who was going to show up... if anyone... if Kholby hadn't just been confused or it wasn't really his birthday. But he saw the affectionate smile and couldn't help but smile a bit himself.
"I just met Kholby um.. " This was going to be awkward. "Two weeks ago..? Healer Zabini asked me to take him back to the ward, and.. uh... I didn't know he was your brother."
He paused, lifted up a hand to scratch the back of his ear. "Well my Papa- Father... there wasn't much I could do, so.... I just.."
He shrugged helplessly. His family didn't blame anyone for the incident, in fact he was happy his Papa had remembered some things and would be coming home! But he didn't know if Kholby had gotten in trouble for it.
"It was just an accident." He finished.

"Accident?" London asked breathlessly as soon as the term fell from Godfrey's mouth; panic swelled in her chest as she glanced at Kholby again as though looking for signs of injury. Bloodlust spiraled through her system as well, the vampire at her core reacting with the desire to seek bloody revenge lest someone get away with involving her kin in some kind of violence.

"No, no... um.... my .. Papa's fine." Godfrey said, not quite sure was going on, but pretty sure he should explain quickly.
"There was an accident with... " He really didn't want to remind Kholby of his lost potion, in case that would upset him. But the look in London's eyes was pretty scary.
"Kholby had a potion from somewhere, and I guess then Healer Zabini saw him with it, tried to get it from him and take him back here, but Kholby got a hold of his wand, and then Papa and I were going to go get chocolate milk. Something happened, I didn't see, and Papa was hit with the potion. I came out of the room just after wards."
He was holding up his hands, trying to placate her. "Papa had some pretty bad burns, but everyone else was okay. Healer Blaise asked me to take Kholby back to his room. Kholby wasn't hurt. And Papa started remembering better after the accident, so.... "
".. um... thank you, Kholby?" He turned to look back at the boy, again worrying that he might have upset him.
