She looked at the tea, and Mixcoatl let out a small grumble from the back of her mind. Still, her fingers wrapped around the cup and she lifted it up half way before looking back to the boy opposite her.

“So, what were we talking about?” The cup went to her lips, and she took a small sip before putting the cup back down. “Oh! Gardening. Does the place have to have dirt?”

That would certainly limit her options by quite a bit. But there was a place they could go, and she knew that more than just she and Izzy would enjoy their efforts.

Twirling his tea a bit in the cup he shook his head. "Th-there doesn't n-need to be d-dirt, but it would b-be a-a lot easier if th-there was some." He carried some dirt with him, but it wouldn't be nearly enough to start a decent garden. It would be a lot easier and help tame the plants a bit more if he was able to dilute the dirt he did have with the normal, tainted soil of Midling anyway. "A-are you thinking of a-a place?"

“Yea,” She looked down at the tea, grinning madly at the idea. “I have a backyard at my house that’d be good. There’s some dirt there, but it’s really hard. We’d have to break it up or something.”

She frowned slightly in thought; just how were they going to do that?

“I guess we can do it with some shovels or something. Well-- there’s a fence at least, so if you do anything like…. What you just did, then no one will see.”

That way, not only could they work in secret… But Varu could enjoy their handiwork. He was always grumbling about how the city had no vegetation… So they could make their own little jungle in their backyard. He’d love that!

“If you don’t mind coming over, that is.”

Izzy nodded. This way he'd get to meet her... 'family'. "It's g-going to be hard work." He warned, knowing just how hard the dirt in Midling could be. "And I-I want t-to meet your family." He said with a smile, looking at his tea and taking a sip.

“I can do it.” She assured him with a confident nod. No matter what, she wanted to make sure that she could at least do that. It would make Varu happy, and it would make Izzy happy. It seemed like no matter what, everyone would benefit from this little project.

“They’re nice. But don’t let Varu know that you’re a player.” She warned, a finger pointing for emphasis, “Because he’s a real player, and he doesn’t like to let other players live.”

Saying something like that seemed so casual, and yet she was talking about life and death. Of course… Things changed once The Game was involved.

“But if he doesn’t figure it out, then he’s great! I think you’ll really like him. Just remember--”

Her look was one of pure seriousness.

Don’t let him know, no matter what.

Izzy nodded, gripping his cup. The last thing he wanted to do was get himself killed. "I-I-I d-don't plan on it." He said, trying to reassure her. When she put on the serious face Izzy nodded again, looking at her with equal seriousness. "B-b-believe me... the l-last thing I wanna d-do is g-get myself killed... especially b-by someone y-you love."

Her face suddenly turned a shade redder, though not horribly so.

“I-Its not like that! Don’t misunderstand! He’s just like a-a…” Her fingers began to tap the table in concentration, “A brother-friend-dad! Its totally not like that at all!”

Hearing him say it like that… Didn’t that just make it all too obvious?! But didn’t she herself make it obvious with her over-the-top reaction!? Damnit! She was being an idiot! An IDIOT! She just had to calm down! It wasn’t like that. Varu had said so himself.

“I’m sorry. I’m being really stupid.” She could freely admit that, now. Even with the hatred attached to that word, she was clearly able to admit her mistake, “Don’t even worry about it. Its nothing. But…”

She took another sip of the tea, trying to find some way to change the subject.

“I will admit he’d really like a garden.”

Izzy's small smiled hollowed a bit. Why did he feel that weird ache again when she reacted like that? Here she was, saying herself that Varu was just a brother-father figure... so why did he feel so weird about it? He noticed the change in her skins hue and his eyes flashed a bit into numbness, but he quickly recollected himself and the smile came back full force.
"Y-you're not b-being stupid. A-and plants a-are best when th-they make someone else h-happy."

She smiled in return; this boy said the strangest, most comforting thing. He kinda felt like a Buddha, or some other enlightened person, the way he was able to talk so calmly about everything. Maybe he God was Buddha, after all.

“Flowers would be nice. And Catnip.” She added, a mischievous look on her face. Two of the residents in the home would enjoy catnip, and a certain pair of twins would get a huge kick out of it.

“OH! But crap--” She fidgeted, looking at the walls around the room in quite a hurry, “Do you know what time it is?”

If felt much earlier than it probably was-- and Tepin was such a clutz, she’d probably completely lost track-- she felt like such a dummy.

“I’m supposed to get Sydders at four so we can head home and start dinner!"

Izzy didn't have a watch, so he crawled out of the booth to check the clock above the counter. As he walked around the corner he scratched his arm again, and felt something wet. Looking at his hand he wondered where the red paint had come from... it took him a full second to realize that it was blood.
His face sunk and he looked up at the clock. It was 3:30. The tea woman poked her head out from the backroom and smiled at him. "It's on tha house, darlin'. You know that." Izzy nodded and hid his hand.

"M-may I have a t-towel...?" He said in a rather monotonous voice. The woman nodded, a quizzical look on her face, handing him the towel she had on her shoulder. He smiled and put the towel on the back of his arm, going back to the booth.
"It's three-thirty. You should g-get going." He said, crawling over to his bag and shimmying it on, keeping his bleeding arm wrapped in the towel.

She could have smelt it. She should have. Yet when Izzy told her the time, she panicked, looking around the room once more (as if she expected some newfound clock to confirm his announcement).

“Craaaaaapppp.” She called to no one in particular, taking the cup up with one hand and throwing the hot drink down her throat. She coughed a bit, regretting her decision instantly, but wasted no time in pulling herself up from her cushion.

“Do I gotta go take this in the back for cleaning or something?” She still held the mug, alternating glances from Izzy to the cup and back again.

Staff probably just came and cleaned the table after a group was done, but she never knew. Each shop was different, and she didn’t want to go and make a bigger fool of herself than she already had.

“Wait-- are they making you clean it?” She looked at the towel curiously. If they had to clean their own table, she’d definitely stay and help.

“I’ll help! I can run later, it’s not a biggie.”

Izzy smiled mechanically when she downed the tea. "N-no, if y-you leave it th-they'll get it." He finally managed to get the bag on comfortably and froze when she asked. "N-n-n-n-no... I- uh, I j-just wanted t-to wipe d-down the t-table, s-since I h-had d-dirt on it i-is all." He said quickly, still not removing the towel. Hopefully she'd leave, so he could rush back home and see what exactly was wrong with his arm. No doubt it was Totec showing some sort of distaste for his recent escapades...

Her lower lip dropped uncomfortably as she put the cup down. She wasn’t sure why, but for some reason, she just felt like a jerk for just leaving the staff to clean up after her. Maybe it was because of how friendly Izzy was with them, or maybe because they had a private room, but something about this seemed more like a house visit than a trip to a restaurant.

“Oh,” Made sense. Though something should have seemed off-- if they planned on cleaning any-- Maybe he just didn’t want to expose himself. After all, getting dirt on a table would be weird enough, let alone by two kids with facial tattoos, one particularly older than the other. “ ‘Kay. Well, I really do gotta jet. But--You got a day you wanna meet up so we can start the gardening plan?”

She already had her hand to the curtain, tan fingers splitting the waves of beads as she parted her exit. As soon as she could, she’d be out, running down the streets in a hurried attempt to get her adopted sister.

"Thursday? M-meet you a-at the p-park?" He said, fidgeting a bit. He wasn't sure how much his arm was bleeding, and wanted to get out of there quick. As soon as she was out the door he'd follow- he was starting to feel a bit of a fever spreading up the back of his neck. "I'll s-see you then..." He said, forgetting he hadn't even waited for her answer.

She grunted her approval, looking back to say her goodbyes.

“Works for me. See ya.”

She disappeared behind the curtain for a mere second, before her head peeked through again. “Oh, and thanks for today!”

With that, she really disappeared, ducking behind the curtain while the clacking of beads signaled her departure.
