Lor hid the cloak behind her. It was, after all, going to be a surprise gift.

"Well, hello there, Annjette," she said, voice soft and comforting. She reached out and stroked the girl's hair. "Voltaire is right, dear - we won't ever abandon you."

She didn't seem to mind Lor stroking back her hair, the words were in a soothing tone, and beside that, Annjette seemed to comprehend what was being said so the sour expression faded away replaced by a small smile upon her black-toned lips.

"My, my, the Duckling can smile." Voltaire said teasingly to the child lightly tickling her sides.

Annjette giggled lightly and squirmed, "Ee~ No, no! Papa!"

Voltaire relented and chuckled, letting go of her and allowing her free reign. Which she took, crawling off and settling on the grass for a moment before standing and toddling after a small bug she apparently noticed.

Lor smiled, watching Annjette. "You're a good father, you know."

He smiled a bit and shrugged, "I had to learn watching my friends grow up with their fathers. Glad something rubbed off." He winked at Lor and shrugged, "I fear the day she becomes a teenager. She'll probably give me some trouble, depending how she turns out." Voltaire laughed lightly, "I know I was a bit of a hellion myself."

Annjette didn't really walk, she toddled or waddled about, probably due to her feet and how they were shapped. It didn't bother her too much though she seemed extra careful about where she stepped. Sometimes Annjette would stop, peer down and make sure there were no rocks in her path. She seemed to refuse to stray away from Voltaire or Lor, and so there was no real need to remind her to stay close by.

"If we're lucky, she may turn out more like me. Subdued and..." She shrugged. "Oh, it's pretty apparent how I turned out. I'm only nineteen, after all - I'm still technically in my teenage years."

He laughs a bit, "I am pretty lucky, so far."

Looking thoughtful about Lor's comment about herself and shrugged, "You turned out to be a wonderful young woman. At least in my mind. You are very thoughtful from what I saw, and quite intelligent too. Not to mention pretty." He smirked faintly and shrugged, "I'm not just saying that either."

Annjette waddled near them and plopped down, she had caught the bug she had been chasing, it was cupped in her hands. She was busily peering into it trying to see what it was exactly. Annjette didn't show fear against insects at all. Not even arachnids seem to cause her worry. As a spider crawled busily by her, she had paid it but scant attention before looking back between her hands. When she opened her hands there was a small ladybug crawling about, "Bite?" She asked, but to no one in particular.

She blushed a little bit, ducking her head. "I'm nothing special.

"And the road to getting where I am... well, if it's the only way to reach the state I'm at, I hope that Annjette turns out a bit wild."

He laughed a bit, "You are special." Voltaire smiled at Lor and shrugged, "I am sure she will have a wild streak when it suits her," He replied as he watched Annjette letting the ladybug crawl where it may before it flew off leaving her behind to pout after it.

"I want fly!" She pointed after the ladybug.

Voltaire raised an eyebrow at Annjette before replying, "No, no, love, that was a ladybug." He murmured correcting her.

Annjette shook her head and flapped her arms a bit, "No, papa! I want fly!"

The man looked momentarily baffled at trying to answer this need -- or rather want.

"I'm merely a product of my circumstances."

She blinked at Annjette, then laughed, quietly. "I think that she wants to fly, Voltaire." Stashing the cloak behind the half-elf, she stood and hurried over to Annjette, picking her up and swinging her about gently.

"Like that, Annjette?"

Voltaire laughed a bit feeling a little silly, "Ahh, now you tell me." He moved forward a bit making look as if he was stretching as Lor hid the cloak behind him. He then leaned back again using his arms to help him cover the gift.

When Annjette was lifted up and swung about she squealed delightedly and giggled, "Hehe! Yes! Ah-gain. Please!"

Smiling again, she swung the girl around, holding her a bit higher. Her own skirts flared out as she twirled, and the two of them looked quite natural together, two kindred spirits who looked as if they might just take flight.

Voltaire watched them, for a moment tilting his head. He supposed the pair, or rather all of them were pretty much kindred spirits in many ways. Each of them had been abandoned either by accident or purposely. They all lost someone they loved at some point in their life, but maybe Lor could find her lost loved one. Stranger things have happened before.

"Yah!" Annjette laughed a bit before going quiet for a moment, and a large gurgle is heard. It wasn't a going-to-be-sick sort of gurgle, but rather a hungry sort, not that the two are easily told apart.

A little one finds her way to the top of the steps leading to Clair d'Lune's door. She peers at her package for a moment, then places it so that it will make a disturbance when the door is opened. The parcel is wrapped in a bolt of deep purple cloth and tied snugly with twine.
Inside is a charm for Anjette on a black leather thong:
