Julian bowed low, sweeping his hat off in one hand...then put down the mic, wobbling a bit.

It was about then he realized....

"...I left Alice at my duplex...?"

He blinked, tapping the back of his waistband and not finding the book. Oh, well.

He headed out to go get it. He would be back, of course. He just...wanted his book.

Lauren gave a clawed aplause towards Julian as she barked with joy. "Wow! That freak can sing!" A new respect grew in Lauren towards Julian, and he was pretty darn cute too. She couldn't believe she hadn't seen that before.

"Yeah yeah, me too, I get so busy sometimes with my studies around here." A light shined in her brain as her eyes sparked. She was fairly aware that he worked in the lab, some higher up. She wasn't letting out his secret though, this was a night of masquerade and who was Lauren to ruin a good one.

"Sing more!!" Lauren hollered out towards Julian. She really did want someone good to stay on the mic and was kind of debating whether she wanted to give it a try or not.

Sabin paused in the conversation to listen to the first person brave enough to try out the karaoke machine, and when he finished, turned to the stage and gave a hearty round of applause. "Good show! Encore!" He grinned as the usually nervous young man had gained the backbone to try it out.

Sabin shrugged at Amaya. "True... but admittedly, what better way to get over a fear than full exposure to it. Dependence on it even. Well, that or it would drive someone mad! One of the two."

"And no problem. But until you do change, I guess one can always hope for the best."

Awen shifted her weight a little bit. The convorsation suddenly shifting to insanity was not a happy thing. She gave Sabin a little nervous smile but at the moment just wanted to get away. The creepy factor was a little too high.

She refrained from suddering at the curiosity, or amusement, that was in his voice at the thought of driving someone mad. Whichever it might be it was entirely too casual, and that was all too clsoe to home for Awen. She was sure he wouldn't be so casual if it were his psyche he was talking about that might be getting screwed up.

She shifted her weight. "Ya know.... Someone..uh was supposed to meet me here awhile ago... I'm gonna go see where he might be okay?" Yay, Jamal had become a decent excuse, better than the excuses he tries to play anyway...

She smiled slightly. "Nice to meet you though... um Sabin, right?"

She looked over to Lauren and smiled more sincerely. "I'll see you later, I gotta go find a certain someone...." She wasn't sure if Lauren had met Jamal or not yet... but she didn't feel up to explaining the situation. She was sure Jamal would like the snack table at the very least...

Sabin beamed a smile at Awen, not seeming bothered by her anxiety at the least - and oddly enough - she could almost swear it was more the opposite.

"Well, I'm sorry to hear that your friend isn't here - good luck finding him!" He gave her a wave. "Hopefully I'll be seeing more of you, yes? It was nice to meet you."

And with that he shrugged and turned back to Lauren with a small shake of his head, glancing at the much emptier room. "Ahh, they scare so easily" He tsked, but his grin belied any sort of actual disappointment.

"See ya Awen! You MUST come back though." Lauren wondered why Awen was always running off when they talked.

It was a tad bit uncomfortable being nearly alone with this strange man but Lauren shrugged it off. He was somebody and from the lab, maybe they could find common ground.

"Yeah, she's good at that, had my face slammed in her door once but over she's a good person." Lauren replied to Sabin's comment not really acknowledging that he refered to they instead of she. "I hope she doesn't go insane, I never seemed to run across her file but I'm betting she is some sort of fish person." Being that no other person was in ear shot Lauren felt she could talk shop with Sabin until someone was.

Sabin shrugged, not really wanting to vocalize, even to Lauren, who was pretty much an honorary lab tech, that he would be quite interested to see one of the subjects go insane from fear.

"Well, as I told her, time reveals all." He commented, grabbing another meat ball and downing it with a toothy grin. "And ... something of the such." he winked. "If I remember correctly." He kept his voice low, quite enjoying his own inverted role on Halloween. Indeed, it was quite appropriate - his greatest costume not being what he wore, but the role he was playing. A 'friend' or compatriot of the subjects. At least until he ran into some that he personally ushered to their fates.

Hargun lazily waved an arm at Awen and continued to attempt to snooze but that wasnt likely going to happen.

Her large ears twicthed as she half listened in to Lauren and Sabin, but didnt feel the extreme need to eavesdrop. She figured there was something about Awen whenever she was out and about with the girl. Like the time at the river for one.

It wasnt long until she actually fell asleep where she sat... and hadnt even finished her water as it sat, so clear and still.

Lauren smiled at what Sabin had said, "Oh! I know she doesn't want it but it would be so great for her, being forced to face her fear. She's a tough girl." Awen was the closest friend Lauren had on the island, besides Moreau. She smiled and popped the last of the food into her mouth, grabbing it all with her hand at this time.

"So, blending in?" Lauren guessed but she knew the answer. "I won't blow your mask, don't worry. And yeah, seen ya around but never talked to ya. You're kind of a higher up... right?" Lauren's position in the lab was highly unclear. Yeah, she was just a student but she was MOREAU'S student. It kind of put her in an akward position in the whole hierarchy of things.

Sabin nodded. "She'll probably manage, judging just from what little I know of her. Only a few of the people here I would think would break... one already has really...." He glanced towards the stage where Julian was. Pity the fear pretty much was gone after the point of breaking like that. But there were plenty of other islanders terrified with the reality of their own situations.

He smiled and gave a quiet chuckle. "You might say that. It is Halloween, after all. And Halloween has always been truly a festival of inversion, much like other carnivals and masquerades. And what better way to play it up." He smiled, "besides, I do enjoy it. while it lasts, at least. So, thank you. We'll see how far it goes."

He stretched, finishing off his bloody mary and setting it down on a used cup tray. "And I'm one of the supervisors." He spoke quietly. "And speaking of, unfortunately, tonight cannot be completely a night of merriment. I have some... things that i need to attend to - make sure everything is on schedule for ...." he paused, debating for a moment before realizing it didn't matter "a project that should hopefully be coming to fruit relatively soon." He tipped his hat at Lauren. "It was nice actually speaking with you. I shall be around later."

Lauren shook her head, "Yeah, some people just don't get it. Your not going to get away from this fate you might as well accept whatever the ******** you are turning into."

Lauren laughed, Sabin was definately eccentric but he did seem nice and similar to Lauren in some ways she couldn't quite put her clawed finger upon. "Hopefully far, and the ears really kick it! They look nearly as real as mine." And they did, it was definately a good and expensive costume Sabin had going on.

"Yeah, really no kidding and I am feeling kind of funny. I think I need to go to the bathroom." Lauren was a bit more giggly than usual, not realising just like Julian hadn't realised that was alcohol in her glass. Her dad never drank mixed drinks, and people on the streets never went off stealing cases of bloody marys. Her discomfort emphasised her last statement.

Waving goodbye at Sabin and wondering what he was talking about, Lauren rushed quickly to the bathroom.

And there was Julian again, staggering back in with his book in his waistband. He was rather happy about his karaoke performance...and he kinda wanted to do another one.

He sat down next to the list, reading it happily, hat slipping down to shade his eyes.

'Could I sing one?'

Julian blinked.

"...Er...."

The tall, top-hatted man made his way back into the tent some time later, with a rather happy demeanor. Things were progressing nicely back at the lab, and that only served to lift his spirits even more on this Hallow's Eve. Things were certainly fitting into place, and very little could spoil his mood now.

Coming back into the tent, he spied the nervous young Julian as the only other one in the tent, looking consideringly at the microphone again.

With a smile, he quietly approached behind the young man.

"Considering an encore?" The french-accent asked from behind him.

He jumped slightly, whipping around...but then laughed a little.

"...Yeah. I...well...I don't THINK I was too bad, earlier...." He twitched a nervous smile.

"...Hopefully no one minds."

His tail gave another little flick behind him.

'...Julian, are you even listening to me? I'm talking to you....'

A little twitch.

Sabin gave a broad grin as Julian spun to face him.

"Well met" He nodded with a tip of his hat. "And not bad at all if I do say so. I didn't see anyone who had any issue with someone gathering the courage to test the karaoke machine. Even if it did take a few bloody maries to do so" He chuckled amicably.
