Amelia opened her eyes a little more as she heard Rhys speak over her, and her body relaxed slightly. Her chest still hurt, and she vaguely wondered if somehow Rei had set those wounds on fire. She wanted to pull the edges of fabric away from her wounds -- it was only making it hurt more -- but didn't want to move her arms yet.
"Chest," Amelia managed out, lips red from the blood she'd just expelled from her throat. "Side..." As if to reinforce this, the radius from her older wound Rei had given her lengthened just a little. She blinked, trying to clear her vision. The grass was starting to waver in front of her eyes. That was bad, wasn't it?

Rhys nodded, experience taking command and guiding his actions. He'd dealt with injuries hundreds of times--Titania had been the first beneficiary of his medical skills, but certainly not the last.
"I'm going to need you to lie down. This may sting a little bit--hold still."
He got down on one knee, leaning Amelia's head against the other, keeping her lying down on her back, her head elevated. Then, he shook the vulnerary slightly, then opened the brown bottle. He looked down at the two wounds--the ones on the chest appeared fresher. He'd start there.
With one hand, he moved the edges of torn fabric away just slightly from her wounds--he couldn't move it far without removing it entirely, and frankly, now wasn't the time for impure thoughts. He could just nudge the edges of fabric a tiny bit and hope they didn't move back. The other hand followed in the first hand's wake, bringing a slow pour of the healing liquid on the wounds, allowing them to mend. By the time he'd finished, well--a lot of red still remained, but the chest wounds looked far less serious. Where a large red "x" had been was now considerably smaller--the one side looked far shallower a cut, whereas the other had actually partly patched up. It would have completely had there been more liquid in the bottle, but such was liquid volume.

Amelia closed her eyes for just a moment, opening them again as she pulled in a slow, deep breath. Her chest still hurt, the same deep-set sting and fire that nudged at her lungs. If her ribcage hadn't been there, Rei probably would have left two deep gashes in her heart, come to think of it... Amelia shivered, frightened by the thought. She was glad for Rhys getting there quickly, closing her eyes as he leaned her against his knee.
She winced as he moved away the fabric from her wounds, but then a cool liquid fell over her chest and she relaxed, her breathing steadying. Amelia didn't realize how shallow each breath had been until she felt them deepen. She opened her eyes again, looking up at Rhys' face somewhere above hers. He began to split into two, barely blurring out of focus before coming back into sharp sight.
Amelia laughed weakly. She lifted a hand to clean off her lips and chin, managing to clean off her mouth. The taste of copper there was making her stomach churn. "I... screwed up, didn't I," she said, more as a statement than a question. Amelia didn't laugh, gaze moving away from him. Her eyes hardened. "He... got away... and he's not back to normal... I failed." She paused, voice softening as she spoke again, eyes watering a bit. Goddamn, even with that Vulnerary, her chest hurt, and he hadn't had enough to do anything for her side. It was still on fire there, too. "Thanks... f-for helping me."

Oujay arrived after the bishop. He slowed down to a walk and just stood there as the bishop was working on healing Amelia. Oujay was glad to still see that she was alive, but saw the injuries on her body were pretty bad. "Why would you do this Rei?" he thought. He looked around for a bit. "Where did he go?" he also asked himself as he looked around. Rei had just disappeared when the barrier dispelled Oujay knelt down near the two, but not close enough so he would get in the way. He watched as the bishop poured the vulnerary onto the wound. The wound got smaller and didn't seem as bad now. He knelt there quietly as if he was invisible. He knew he couldn't really do anything to help.

(Renault, I hope you don't mind me taking your character over just for the healing staff. It just seems to me that here or not, you'd be right behind me, so...)
Rhys could hear footsteps behind him, announcing Renault's arrival. They didn't speak; there wasn't any need. Rhys pointed to Amelia's side, and the Healing staff glowed, doing what it can.
As for what she said...
"You did what you could," he said, reassuringly. "I don't believe it's your fault. Just... don't talk right now. Save your energy."
(I need to focus elsewhere, but I may be back later.)

Amelia seemed to be ignoring his second order, closing her eyes and letting out a long, shaky breath. The Heal staff cured what injuries it had the capabilities of handling, and once it was done, the wound in her side had stopped bleeding, patched a little, and the wounds in her chest healed over farther. The pain was deep-set, especially in her side, and her skin still felt clammy as Amelia opened her eyes again. She had lost a lot of blood, after all.
"I should h-have been able to do more...!" she protested, coughing. She tried to relax, but she was angry now, angry at Rei for fighting, angry at herself for losing, angry at whoever -- whatever -- was doing this to him. She couldn't stand it. Who had it out for them? And why Rei...? "I should have... I-I could have beaten him, Rhys. I could have. I... I let him trick me. I was... s-so desperate to get him back to normal, I... I fell for his lie, hook, line, and sinker." Amelia coughed again, a heavy, rasping cough that made her upper body jerk up and her shoulders shake. There was no blood this time.

"Fell for his lie...?" Rhys shook his head. Some wounds were cured easily enough with your standard staff, but the wounds of a soldier weren't always covered in blood. He'd tried talking to those soldiers, but generally if you tried to console them, they'd respond one way or the other, which could make matters worse. Other than his short sentence, he remained silent, wondering how the heck they'd move her back to a warm bed.

"I-It's true...!" Amelia protested. She was coughing again, throat burning and chest shaking. She pressed one hand over her sternum, wincing at the stinging pain from being pressure to her wounds, but only coughed again. She didn't think those attacks had nicked her lungs -- it sure didn't feel like it -- but she couldn't seem to calm her breathing. Whenever the coughing subsided, she was panting, panic settling deep in her gut. "He's still n-not himself... and wh-what if he attacks someone else? Wh-What if he can spread it, and... I didn't stop him, and other people could g-get hurt and it'd be my fault...!"
She fell back again as she coughed, clapping her hand now over her mouth. Still no blood; good sign. She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them again. "I c-can't let someone get hurt b-because I wasn't good enough to stop him...! I... I can't!" Amelia started to move as if to pull herself up with the intention of picking up her fallen weapon and rushing off to find Rei and smack sense back into him.
Like it had worked so well the first time, right?

Rhys started to feel his confidence slipping. This isn't good! What's she doing? No, it's not your fault...
Rhys felt sympathy for Amelia's plight. He could understand the feeling that it was her fault Rei got away, that she was too weak to stop him. He knew the feeling of being "too weak" all too well...
Still, she was taking this pretty hard. And she'd done really well to have lasted as long as she did! She was... brave to take him on like that. Maybe a bit reckless, but really, the difference between courage and recklessness often appeared to be victory.
"D-don't--" Rhys began, as Amelia started moving. Not good! Not good! What do I do!? It's hard NOT to hurt pride! Ahh, if she goes after him, she could die and I can't allow that because--THAT'S IT!
Rhys moved to stop Amelia the only way he knew how: by closing his eyes, leaning down, and pressing his lips against hers, holding her in place in one long, coppery-tasting kiss.

Amelia had barely gotten herself sitting up when her chest flared up in pain again, and she practically fell back into Rhys' knee. Too weak to even sit up, are you? she mentally demanded, struggling to get up again. By the time she was sitting up even somewhat, one hand on Rhys' shoulder and the other on the ground to keep her steady, she felt the slight shift in the wind from Rhys leaning down, and then his lips pressed right to hers.
Well, then. Sort of makes one forget what they're doing, huh?
Amelia moved her other hand to Rhys' shoulders and wrapped both arms around his neck, both to keep herself steady and both to keep from letting go. She leaned willingly into his kiss, eyes closed. Her heart beat slowed a little, lungs relaxing. Her eyes watered again, little rivers of saltwater flowing down her cheeks, but she didn't let go.

"Hm... this isn't the place for me." Victoria noted Rhys and Amelia's romantic display, before intentionally leaving her heal staff behind for the orange-haired bishop to use freely. She had her own Mend staff to continue putting its soothing aura around her, and besides she could at last stand and walk.
She managed to smirk. "When you two are done... breaking Rhys's chastitiy vows, meet me back at Fefga's..." Of course she was joking, knowing that priests didn't take the Oaths until they were formally promoted by an Archbishop. She knew far too well that Rhys wasn't part of a formal "Order" much like herself right now.
The female bishop was still mad that the Druid managed to escape. A lot of what she said about the Dark Mages was true. They always succumbed to their arts, and even so, Rei's condition looked different.
Even if it was slowly... she made her way back to Fefga's house, eager to at least put some new robes on. Her current look must have shamed Elmine. {Our return to Fefga's will now be in the "Bittersweet Return" topic.}

[[Rhys, Renault, and Amelia are now at Bittersweet Return. For the sake of plot, Rhys and I felt it was best to move over Renault, too, since he's been offline for a bit. If anyone else is left here, get there, and if Renault has any objections, PM me or Rhys, or contact one of us at AIM. If not... a crew needs to lock this. 8D"]]
