"I don't think it's just a female thing, I know of stallions who took benefit from their ministrations too," she smiled wrily and cast him a sidelong glance, clearly designed to tell him that she was all to aware of his nature. He had no desire to be prettied up, no desire to be pampered - he was a rough and tumble sort who would sooner get himself covered in mud than sparkle in the son. Suffice to say, she couldn't see him parading around like a cockrel in spring season for the pleasure of a mare. On the contrary, she'd bet all her berries that he'd only ever parade when prepping for a spar, and even then she could imagine him circle like a lion. With her imagination running wild at that moment, her lips parted in a silent 'o' and her eyes widened.
...Oh, bet he'd look good doing that!
She shook her head though, dismissing the thoughts and filing them away for later consideration. Now wasn't the time for her to be perverse, there were more fitting moments for that sort of thing and given she had company, it was best she didn't dwell. Especially when said company wasn't terribly receptive to that sort of conversation, she was pretty sure he might break out in hives if she mentioned anything going on in her head right now. Unsurprisingly, she gave a tiny snort of laughter at the images that flashed into her head at that moment and shook her head one more time.
Bad Sparkles, bad.
"Ahem," she returned to the real world and rolled her shoulders in a mild shrug. "When it comes to the squeals they have different pitches - if a baby is upset then it will sound different than if they're happy. That's how you know if it's good or bad, it's how you make it better too!" She wagged her tail as if it were a finger and quickened her pace, to her the ability to 'converse' with humans came naturally and she adored their ministrations - no forest animal could make her mane quite so tidy!
"Not long now," she confirmed as she hopped to yet another top and no sooner had she said this than her ears flicked forward and she rounded a corner. Up ahead, on a slight incline was an opening to another cave and while it gave no sign of what lurked inside, she knew it was the right one. A smile of delight flickered onto her lips and she gave a little hop, her tail moving forward to point towards the opening enthusiastically. "Tada! Now, as they say - guest first, nyah?"

Hn. Manjii' tilted his head to another direction as he deemed to shrug off that small detail. Mares or stallions, either way he couldn't say why they lived the way they did. Let alone adding humans to the mix...but to each their own. "In that case I am stunned you didn't stay in their company. All that pamperin' must've grown tiresome? But no, that could never be your reason." Pale shoulders shrugged as he held off anymore wandering questions. She didn't pester him with his history, and he'd be damned if he behaved as such to others.
Mistaking the light in her eyes for enthusiasm to the spa, the male only nodded as she finally moved forward. He didn't even bother asking to decipher her small snort, lest he get a migraine or a blush. Though was was careful to make sure it wasn't any sign of fatigue on her part, such as her hooves slipping. Even if she seemed the type to wail her opinions, she also appeared too giddy to know when to take it easy. Why, even his own legs were starting to complain at the present task. So surely....his ego urged, her legs must be getting sore too. =,=
Pursing his lip and lifting his brows, Manjii' looked up as Sparkles went on to describe babies. Not that he'd ever need the lesson on such details, but he wouldn't interrupt. So long as he steered clear in the mountains, he figured, the further away he'd be from any human babysitting. "I'll be sure to tell my mother then, if she doesn't already know such. She adores tending to little ones no matter what their heritage." It sure made for interesting encounters, even if they were only fleeting moments for their mother. But she cherished them all the same, and if he was hearing correctly, Sparkles had that same glee for life.
"Tch, and I'm sure you make it all the better for them with that distracting tail of yours." He swore sometimes he wished he had paws like a bear or raccoon, simply to wrangle such things as the glittering tail swaggering before him. Consequences be damned.
Sighing away that horrible and unnecessary temper of his, he followed along with a click of his hooves as the rounded the corner. His eyes displayed his surprise to the sheer size of the cave, wondering if it was truly vacant of other animals. With a flick of his dragging tail and a nod to the unicorn, the half-troll stepped towards the mouth of the cave. No point in arguing the 'ladies first' debate.
Now only to not make a fool of himself by slipping on the smooth and moist stones.

He wouldn't be the first soquili to slip walking into these caves and he certainly wouldn't be the last if he lost his footing now. She'd fallen flat on her rump the first time she had entered the caves and had been bruised for a few days after. Walking on damp stone took a certain element of skill and if there was moss or algae, then it became even worse. It had taken a while for her to grow accustomed to it and as a consequence she was considerate towards those who had never encountered such a challenge before.
That being said she couldn't help but c**k a smile just a touch at his hesitant approach to the cave. He was either figuring out the best way to tackle the problem or he was afraid of something. Rather than comment she opted instead to divert her gaze elsewhere for the time being. It was only after another few moments that she clucked her tongue and shuffled towards him - a flick of her tail against his leg as she passed and well, she would remark that it was purely unintentional if need be but it would be enough to get his attention.
...She had legitimate reasons though.
If she led by example and showed him how she walked then perhaps he would be able to emulate it in a way. For once she really was being considerate rather than teasing and after a second to gather her composure and remind her body of the conditions before her, she stepped into the cave. Her hoof steps were revealed to be very high, quick and yet long - one might have said she was ice skating but really she was just spreading her weight to avoid slipping. It was elegant in it's own way but certainly didn't give her any opportunity to swing her hips or show off her feminine wiles.
Alas, she had no time to complain about that now, falling would be more embarassing!

Cave-darkened eyes peered up as the mare sauntered passed him into the cavern. In the very least, she had made no comment to his caution and had given him free space and time to debate the situation. Besides that, his own lips were tensely sealed shut as his sharp eyes focused on the techniques needed to get through this terrain. Between the cooler air and the shined surfaces, he was finding it unbearably familiar to that time with his mentor on the frozen lake. Something he'd rather not think on at this moment.
Watching her example, the male couldn't help but ponder just how the heck he was supposed to mimic those motions? "I think I'm too heavy..." Though that was only a whispered concern, as he wasn't up to sharing that information. Not wasting time to get far behind, Manjii placed his hooves steadily forward. Whereas Sparkles steps were smooth and graceful, his were shaken and overly controlled. Each step forward would be pressed for balance, only to last long enough for another step. In effect, he raced forward in a silly and tumbling dance, the clicks and clanks of his hooves loud in the peaceful cave.

He sounded like a bull in a china shop - the clattering made her wince, step by step. Her ears flattened, her nose wrinkled a little and she even squinted as he made slow progress towards the inside of the cave. She could conclude from this very brief and comedic moment that he would never be adept at playing the role of a female, he just didn't have the grace for it and probably never would. This wasn't really a loss, given he was a rather appealing male, but Sparks could appreciate that now and again a male liked to experient.
...Some liked to do it frequently.
Eventually he did make it over the worst of the surface and she did recover her composure. Her smile was wry as she made no secret of her amusement but at the very least, he wouldn't find pity there! So he couldn't walk over a slippery surface, either he'd never spent time learning to or he just lacked the balance, some soquili were like that. However, something did strike her as a little peculiar about his remark before he had followed after her.
"...I was under the impression that regardless of weight, a warrior learnt to be light on his hooves," she held out her tail in an offering to help him balance. She could either wrap it round his leg if he presented it, or he could bite the tip for added support. Alternatively he could ignore it completely, she'd hazard a guess he would opt for this option. "Perhaps I was mistaken and you are not a warrior, merely a well defined male, no?"
It wasn't designed to be provocative, but stranger things had happened!
She refrained from speaking any further at his, pursed her lips and turned her attention towards the bend in the cave tunnel that would lead to her beloved hot spring. She could already hear the 'blub' of warm water and every now and again a wisp of heat touched her nose - ooooh she simply couldn't wait!

Thank the spirits this cave didn't have an array of jagged edges, else this stallion's legs would have been shredded into ribbons. But he continued his path, slip-sliding with legs that seemed to have no knees as he moved. If this was only the exterior of the cave, imagine the depths without fresh air helping to dry the surfaces. This hot spring better be vastly amazing....
Grinning once his hooves hit a more secure footing, the soquili staggered to a stand, his tail flicking at the chilly air. He was almost regretful to even glimpse over at his guiding companion, his mouth already holding a wrinkle to her expected humor. And it was true, by that twinkle in her eye and quirk to her lips. "I know, I know so hush up." But her comment was different from what he'd come to expect, and his eyes narrowed to what prompted it.
"Funny, I don't recall claiming to be a warrior. And no....thanks. I don't intend to nom on your tail, if that's the option." He shook his head, not familiar but somewhat envious to the flexibility of other species limbs. Blinking thoughtfully at her question, the male was slow to shrug in reply as he followed the other through the spine of the cave. "Heh, I'm not qualified for such a title, if one must ask. But the Troll lineage is vast enough, I suppose we get by with numbers than on a single strength. Hm, but then it just sounds like mob mentality....that's not quite correct." 8

Had he told her to 'hush up'? Soquili did this quite frequently to her, usually males and she couldn't ever think of why. She was particularly annoying in her view and anything she said was usually sound enough! Alas, she hadn't quite picked up on the fact that his pride might be at stake at her amusement at his ice dancing hadn't been appreciated. Ah but to have a sense of humour! He had the ability to smile (she had seen it) but he clearly didn't know how to laugh at himself in a comfortable manner, such a shame, if an individual was too serious they could come off as sour.
Thankfully she didn't respond with a quick-lipped retort to this and opted to hold her silence in what she regarded as a dignified manner. The irony of this wasn't lost upon the mare; chatty as she might have been she did have a reasonable level of intelligence and much to her chagrine he'd gotten what he wanted. She was quiet to preserve her own dignity and this is exactly what he had wanted.
...How long this would last for remained to be seen.
"You don't have to claim anything for someone to make an assumption," she pointed out gibly and lifted a brow. "You are strong and well built, to some that makes you a warrior," she shrugged loosely, momentarily losing her balance before she regathered her composure and found her footing. "However you have answered the question, you are just well defined!" she finished. This was all she had to say on the subject and without further delay she moved deeper down the tunnel until she at last came to the large cave. Inside there lay a number of bubbling pools, steam rising and circulating through the interior. It was considerably warmer up here (even stifling to some) but the mare was clearly in her element.
Releasing a deep sigh she puttered forward a touch more and examined one of the pools - she'd give him a few moments to catch up, he still hadn't worked out the finer points of navigating slippy floors and it could take him a while.

This was going to drive him mad.
Why was this mare so...so, bi-polar? His mother wasn't at all like this. And his sister, well to a certain degree, wasn't either. One moment his travel companion would gabble-gabble without a breath, then the next she'd fall into an understandable and tranquil hush. If Manjii' didn't know any better, he'd dare to say this Unicorn was as slick and sharp as the cavern they were now exploring.
Though the stallion tucked this theory away for later examining, his focus was altered as Sparkles tried to explain reasonably. But it was nearly lost on him as he choked away a chuckle. "Well, aren't we lucky my brother isn't here right now. He'd have a fun time accepting such assumptions for himself; I'll be sure to warn you should you two ever meet." His icy eyes glinted at the mere memory of his kin, and the corner of his mouth quirked. He'd have to make it a priority to check up on them all again soon.
"In any case, I be appreciating your comments. However random and entertaining they usually are. But it sounds as if you're familiar with the warrior type. If that's a correct assumption on my part?" Manjii flicked his ears back as he noticed the cave get...murkier, as if the air was full of dust. But this was more refreshing than that, despite how thick it felt on his skin. And despite finally seeing the secret pools, he couldn't help but frown at how much slicker the stone floor was at this point. All the same it was amazing to see the environment flourishing here so far from the contact of other beings.
"Good spirits, how do you get across without sliding straight in and getting cooked?" If he wasn't stubborn he just may have asked for that tail of hers to get across. But that was no option, especially if his clumsy weight could send them both in a painful mess on either the unforgiving stone or scalding waters.

Slick and sharp in some respect, yet utterly naive in relation to others. If only the stallion were privvy to the truth, he might have had an entirely different view of the mare! It certainly was something to mull over at a later date if one felt so inclined, but any conclusion that might be found would be inaccurate. After all, very few were aware of the true extent of who and what the exhuberant mare was - if they did, things might be very different indeed; in either a positive or negative respect.
Nevertheless when he made reference to her experience with warriors her expression became somewhat unreadable. There was a hint of something but to place it would prove to be difficult. Truth be told, she had definitely had experience with warriors but what that experience was came in many forms. Some were bad, some were good and others were... Well, others were considered to be necessary (at least to her). Eventually the mare shook her head, her braided mane now clapping more dully, weighed down by the damp.
"Something like that," she replied gently and offered a small smile. "They make very good bodyguards," she explained. It sounded harmless, it always sounded it harmless.
However her attention was quickly diverted as he made reference to his family and her lips parted just a touch. As an only child she'd never had the pleasure of sharing her life with a sibling, it did raise the question as to what it would have been like - wuld life have been different, would she have been different. "Is your family large?" she asked curiously. "You seem very close to your brother, regardless."
"As to how I walk on this surface... When you have learnt to run across sand, a slippery surface is relatively similar, it's not so hard with experience and practice."

"Well, that's kinda the point....I would only guess." Manjii furrowed his brows in thought. What other reason would there be for becoming a warrior, if not to defend others? Obviously his thoughts weren't treading on every venue of the term, but that was for the best. Right now his thoughts were focused on the magic of nature before him. How the dark depths of the earth shimmered vibrantly with the reflection of the clear pools. And with the underground chill being thawed by the heated water, the stallion felt as if a fever crossed his skin.
Taking the initiative, the Troll placed a cautious step on the floor ahead. As he moved stiffly and slowly forward, he spoke on the matter of kin. Distractedly. My father's side is quite extensive, and that's where the Troll genetics appear. Wild hair, massive girth, or sharp teeth...ya know them when ya see them. My mother herself has no family, the only reason she'll say is a storm. Now my brother, he be looking like our mother since he has the plumage. The dork thinks it be making him able to fly as well. Guess that's why we are so close, for balance of personalities."

"Not every warrior wants to keep others safe," Sparkles pointed out gently. “In an ideal world they would,” she added as an afterthought. She lapsed into silence for a few moments, musing over her own words before she opened her mouth to speak again. “Then again in an ideal world, if a warrior was only trained to protect then what would they protect from?” she tilted her head to the side, allowed her lips to part briefly and then purse. “Well I suppose they could protect against hunters,” she amended; after all, it seemed to make sense in that respect.
“You generally find that sometimes, warriors are no more than trained barbarians who want to gain fame in the arena,” she continued with her previous train of thought. Yes, like a typical woman she had leapt from one topic to another without warning. It was no wonder that males were confused by female antics so often! Still, she hadn’t deviated too far from the topic so he should have been able to follow reasonably well. “Others want to be bandits and well, let’s just say it isn’t always pleasant,” she finished.
She lapsed into silence again at this point, a small smile of encouragement flicking onto her lips as he attempted to walk across the floor. It only deepened as he discussed his family and she felt a touch of jealousy at the fact he had siblings, she would have enjoyed siblings. She’d always adored her father, but having a brother or sister who age would have been awesome! Nevertheless when he happened to mention his brother she did cant her head to the side and chuckle. “Perhaps you should advise him not to leap off cliffs any time soon, eh? Either that or get him his own personal doctor...just for the sake of security,” she suggested.

For some peculiar reason, that bit of detail immensely bothered the half-Troll. Enough so that his trailing mane bristled as he turned back to peer at the other soquili. Was this information to be true? The unicorn had yet to lie yet, but even so this seemed odd to hear from a girl who seemed to always have her head in the clouds, of an 'ideal world' that is. Manjii narrowed his brows, trying to make logic of this disjointed meaning.
"Then what value does a warrior have, if only being like everyone else and defending their own hide? Ideal or not, even you are implying that a warrior is meant to protect. Right?" He scowled as he faced forward, not so much at peace anymore with the calming spas. Perhaps because it was the little knowledge he did have of his heritage that it bothered him so. That the Troll lineage was known to be destructive, yet there were those few who took on the warrior title. All in the image of turning a gruesome leaf, for the defense of others.
And to think that other soquili would take such a position and skew it for other purposes! It made the male's blood boil even if there was no personal attack involved in the subject. "Barbarians?" He huffed at the word, it's familiar meaning perhaps lost to the mare. He was in no further mood for this cave now, the humidity only making his mood all the more sour. Although it was difficult now for him to get out, the floors too slick for him to stomp and fuss like the child he was acting. If he was clear-headed, he may even say he was acting like his dear brother.
Stubbornly, the soquili began to pace backwards with a glance over his shoulders. "Hn, I'll be sure to tell him right now then."

She'd upset him, that much was obvious. Something she had said had caused offence and as a result it hadn't been received well. Unaware of his history or his lineage, she wasn't able to pinpoint exactly what it was and furrowed her brow in confusion. The more she thought about her words, the more she couldn't figure out what she had said that was so wrong.Evidently there was more to this stallion than met the eye but he had been spooked and seemed determined to take his leave.
...Should she stop him?
Obviously not. She had been raised better than that and after she had observed him for a few more moments she slipped towards him. She then swung her tail round and offered him to the stallion as a helping hand. Pride may have decided that he had no inclination of using it, but backing up in a manner where he couldn't see where he was going in any sound manner did require a certain amount of consideration. She was a healer, that much was true, but she'd sooner avoid injury as much as possible!
"Value, worth and role are all based entirely on perception," she murmured softly and shook her head. "The outcome of what a warrior is ultimately depends on how that individual perceives the title and chooses to act. In an ideal world I would like to think that they are there to protect others, but unfortunately that's not always possible," she explained. Alas, despite her whimsical nature she did have sound observations and points when the situation called for it.
"I'm sorry if I upset you, it wasn't my intention," she added.

The feathering of her tail against his flanks helped, his heated temper brushing aside his normally skittish reaction to such touches. Following the motion with only a grunt of mistakable gratitude, Manjii marched backwards with his hooves clicking sharply on the stone. It was only when he was neck to neck with the other soquili did he dare to bother making eye contact.
"Ye say it all so calmly, as if you embody the immortal spirits I always hear of." His brows furrowed, both with his attitude and at the intense steam of the cavern misting his sight. "But perceptions are treacherous things, like tongues that speak deceits. Perhaps we best ta' be using the word 'guardian' from now on, instead of warrior. At least that phrase has some hope of honor and valor to it."
Snorting mutely due to the thick air, the stallion then turned with another of his characteristic huffs. It was an unconscious habit when words would otherwise fail him. "I know it wasn't, but it happened all the same." And with his heavy tail dragging like soaked silk, he started to make a determined if not slippery trek back from where they came.
However, it had only taken him ten steps before he cursed brightly under his breath and sighed deeply. Then he glanced back with an almost bashful frown and taunt shoulders. "At least let me be escorting you back outside. Good manners and all that stuff...."
Obviously, his mother's teachings kept firm even after his tantrums.

"I'm definitely not a spirit," she said with a smile and shook her head. She respected the divine spirits too much to take their name into disrepute and to act as if she was one would be a shameful insult indeed. No, it was best for her to state the obvious to avoid confusion or worse still, insult, if he had been using such a phrase to test her. Why he would test her was beyond her means of comprehension but stranger things had happened in her life and it was better to be safe than sorry.
"I can speak to them though," she murmured after a few moments. "Well sometimes at least, sometimes they'll speak to me and other times they'll be quiet," she trailed after him, albeit slowly. With her gaze fixed ahead to the opening that lay beyond, she hadn't really seemed to have taken his offer of an escort on board. "Mostly when they want something," she clarified before shaking her head. It was only then that the pink mare returned to the matter at hand and offered a small smile, her rose eyes creasing just a touch.
"While I thank you for your offer, it's really not needed," she replied at last and motioned to the exit. "I know our own meeting has been cut short by more immediate matters -" she paused briefly to take in a small breath and one could applaud her diplomatic description of the situation if they possessed the right appendages. "But I rather enjoy soaking in hotsprings so I think I'll stay a little longer; if I do it the right way I end up with a lovely sheen on my coat," she explained.
"But I am grateful for the offer," she added.
Better judgement overruling any further comment, she refrained from asking if he needed help to get out. She was well aware of male pride and she doubted he would like it if she pointed out his lack of balance again!
