Lacey looked at Mel. "To stop her captors, I hurt her. I had to push the disperse button my stunner, and she got hit by a jolt of electricity from it. I hope she'll be okay." She kept applying pressure to the wound. Lacey had to shake off her worry. She couldn't get distracted.

Lana looked up to see Lacy and two of the boys from earlier looking down at her. She could feel the bleeding of her kneecap slowly subsiding. It was dwindling down with the pressure from the bandages and pieces of cloth. Although it still hurt like nothing she'd ever experienced before, it was getting gradually better.
She realized that they were all trying to help her, and one of the issues was transportation. Lana may have been wounded, but she could still think somewhat straight. She managed to utter in a soft voice, "The car... use the car... the keys should... still be with the men who were knocked out," she said, breathing heavily as she spoke. She could feel her energy draining once the adrenaline in her body had diffused. The pain was subsiding, but so was her strength.

Lacey looked at Lana. She smiled and tried her best to be reassuring. "Rhell is getting a medic. He brought a jeep when he came. Just hold on okay?" The fact that Lana was concious reassured Lacey.

Rhell stopped the jeep back at the spot that the resistance gathered on. The camp was full of cars and jeeps, gun piles, tents for the refugees and tired workers, and even trailers where soldiers were being interrogated and imprisoned. It was truly a sad sight to see. He got out and ran to a tent with a red cross. "I need a medic!" Rhell shouted urgently. Several hands raised, then one stepped forward and came to Rhell.
"It's Reuce, I am free. Take me to the patient." The medic said. As Rhell explained he grabbed supplies. They drove quickly back to the van. "Let me see her." Reuce said stepping over the two bodies of the soldiers. He knelt down beside Laurana and removed the wrapping and washed the wound. He injected a drug to stop the pain. He wrapped her knee in new bandages and stood back. "That is the best we can do here."
Rhell picked Lana up and moved her to the Jeep, placing her in the back seat.
Mel suddenly felt horrible. All of what just happened was catching up to him. What had happened? Why was he here? What happened to his village? Why had those men came to take his father? Mel hung his head low and began hugging Lacey's arm. Tears began slowly dropping below his face.

When the medic arrived, Lacey immediately walked out of the way. She stood there watching Lana, hoping she'll be okay. Suddenly, she felt Mel hug her arm. She turned around and began to hug him back. Lacey remembered about how Mel's father would always brag about his son. She silently made a promise to herself that no matter what happens, she'll fight beside this boy.

Lana was cautiously carried from the jeep to the ground. There, a professional looking man washed her knee and treated it with something that made it sting a little. When he pulled out a needle, Lana looked away. She had always been terrified of needles in her world. But she knew better than to reveal that fear right then. She winced as she felt the small clean stab of the needle penetrate her skin. Soon, however, the pain was tingling away. Whatever he injected her leg with must have been a numbing solution. She was sitting upright, and looked back at the medic, who was now standing up again and talking to Rhell. Rhell nodded, and then the medic walked away. Lana managed to catch Rhell's eye. Her immediate instinct was to look away; she had been too much of a burden on them. But then she glanced back. "Thank you..." she said in a voice that barely reached over a whisper.

Mel slowly let go of Lacey's arms. "Thanks Lacey..." Mel said beginning to get in the jeep. He looked at Lana deeply in the eyes and used his sleeve to wipe off his tears.
Rhell looked back with a kind smile. "It's nothing, honestly." Rhell began driving with Reuce in the back with Lana, looking her over. Lacey in shotgun, and Mel sitting on the trunk hanging on. It was over for now.
The group arrived back at the camp where everything was set up. Rhell got out and carried Lana back to the medical tent. Lana was put on a stretcher and carried to the medical tent. "Get her on some morphine, and remove the bullet. Then get her leg on a splint." Reuce ordered the doctors. He then sat down on the ground and wiped his forehead of sweat.
Rhell thanked Reuce and went to Lana's side as they began the procedure. He held Lana's hand for reassurance.

"No problem." She smiled and walked into the truck holding the shotgun. She was more than ready to take a break from everything that happened. Another medic noticed her scratches and directed her into another tent. She stepped inside and got the necessary bandages. They did sting in the battle, but they certainly weren't as bad as what happened to Lana's knee. After that, she walked to Lana's tent and waited outside.

Mel walked slowly to the burned remains of the town. Looking about him he saw blissful shadows, what he though might be families or travelers of the village coming out to greet him. But they were simply cruel tricks played on him by the small left over fires light. Casting shadows on the remains to form the shapes of people. Mel began to see ghosts, memories from his past life. Children playing, men and women walking about the streets. The peaceful community, undisturbed by the outside world for so long. It was all gone now. He saw ash covered skeletons. Finally Mel came to his old home. Not long ago he had welcomed in the man that would help his father. Help his family that had lost so much already. Mel just stood there, motionless except for his breathing. Then as his tears began again and he fell to the ground. Weeping horribly. Mel then noticed something by him. He wiped the ash off and looked at it. A brass locket his father kept of his mother and him. Both dead... Mel thought. He then remembered his fathers words to him.
"Survive it all for me." He had said.
Mel hugged the locket to him, then put it safely in his pocket. He thought, wiping tears from his face, what had he done. When the grenade would explode he did something. Mel then raised his hands forward, and a green cube-like shape formed before him. He moved it just like his mind thought about it. He even encased himself, he could hover slightly. Then he felt a bit tired. It consumed energy. He was not completely sure of this, but he knew he had an ability.

Lana was taken into a medical tent on a stretcher. She looked up to see Rhell and Lacey standing beside her. Lana heard Rhell's directions to the medics, and tried not to flinch. She didn't want to come to terms with the fact that there was still a bullet in her leg, and that they would have to remove it. She shuddered in her mind at the thought of the ominous doctors' tools that they used to extract things...
She quickly tried to think of something else, and was surprised by what came into her mind first. Surprisingly, what she thought of first was around the highlight of the trauma. When she was alone in the back of the truck with her hands and ankles bound. And she remembered that there was one sole thought going through her mind: to stop the truck. And for a moment, the truck had stopped...
Lana looked up, daring to open her eyes. What brought her back from her mind was a strange sensation in her knee. It wasn't painful; the leg was already numb. It was more like... something slipping out of place. It almost made her want to giggle for some unknown reason. When she looked up, she saw the medic bandaging up her leg. On the table next to him, there was a bloody bullet.

Rhell picked up the bullet, and wiped off a blood sample. The slid it into a plastic bag and put it in a pouch in his bag of supplies. "Sorry if it seems odd, but it's why I came to this town in the first place." Rhell explained handing her the bullet. "Lacey, can I get some blood from you also?"

Lacey looked at Rhell. "Huh? Umm... Sure I guess. Just let me know when." She thought that if it helped him get any closer to understanding the disease it would be worth it.

Lana raised an eyebrow, and propped herself completely upright while looking at Rhell. "May I ask you what you'd like our blood for? Is this some sort of experiment?" Lana looked a little frazzled. Of course, it could have just been the morphine.
((I'm lacking on originality here... therefore, short post. Sorry))
