Opening his mouth, Ciaran accepted the big bite of cream, whuffling softly around his mouthful, then laughing a little. It took him a moment to swallow it down. "Good," he managed. "I wouldn't want you flying away, after all. This way you have to stay right here."

The kuppy wiped some of the whipped cream from the corner of the centaur's mouth and shook his head, smiling. "You're right, you're right. I shouldn't be flying away." He ate the rest of his "snack" rather quickly, stuffing it all down his throat with little problem. The boysenberries were the best part, though. Once he was finished and pushed the plate away, Zane let out a belch that would have made a hippo proud. "Oops. 'Scuse me." The waitress brought over the check, smiling and asking them how the meal was. "Wonderful," was his purred response.

Ciaran managed to finish most of his apple cobbler, though he must have looked faintly green around the edges once he finally finished it. "Very good," he mumbled, drawing a deep breath and sighing deeply, stuffed up to the eyes. Drawing out some of his own money, he put down enough to pay for his meal, nodding.
"It is your fault if I oversleep tomorrow," Ciaran said, chuckling softly.

The kuppy pushed Ciaran's money back at him and simply stuffed some money into the little black folder for the waitress to take. "I'll wake you up. And it's my treat," he said. Well, really it was Kuro's, but she had said he could spend the money on whatever he wanted. Zane eyed the rest of the cobbler and pointed at it with his fork, ignoring any protests about the check. "Are you going to eat the rest of that?"

Sighing, Ciaran tucked away his money and eyed Zaney with amused eyes. "Go ahead and finish it. I am not hungry." Reaching out to ruffle Zane's hair one more time, he then pulled his gloves back on, fastidiously.

Zaney eagerly pulled the dish towards him and bite into the cobbler delightedly. The kuppy was easily done with the rest of the treat before the waitress came back with their change. With a quiet and content 'thank you', the kuppy hyte gathered up his jacket and leaned a bit to wrap the scarf around the centaur's neck. "We can't have you freeze while you roll me home," he said, chuckling.

A little laugh escaped Ciaran as he felt his scarf slid back round his neck. "Thank you for the consideration," he murmured, amused, as he began to ease himself back out of the booth, hoof by hoof, until all four were on the tile.

Zane stretched a bit in the long curved booth, but eventually got his kuppy butt up and next to Ciaran, automatically linking arms with him and nibbling on his long dark hair. "Let's go back to HyTech? I've got to call Kuro and let her know that I'm staying there for the night. She doesn't want me in the house until I start getting ready for a job."

A warm, pleasant feeling of well-being filled him as he felt Zane nestle against him, the gentle nibbling at his hair. "All right. I will stay with you, tonight." He wasn't ready to go back home, to leave his puppy alone. "If you want me to, that is."

Zane led them to the door, slow so that Ciaran didn't fall over from being stuffed with apple cobbler. "Of course I want you. To stay with me, that is," he corrected, smirking. The diner was still empty, but it felt much homier now than when they'd first arrived. The kuppy waved to the waitress and shivered a bit when the icy air hit his face. "Hurry, hurry. Let's get back."
After a few steps, Zane leaned closer to Ciaran and kissed his warm cheek with chilly kuppy lips. A murmur of some endearment, and then a cough. If he was going to do this, then he'd do it right. "I love you, Cia," he managed to squeak out, blushing.

He was shivering too when he felt the cold air -- but when he heard those words, Ciaran's heart felt like it would swell to fill his entire chest, leaving no room for breath or words or anything so necessary. By the orange lamplight, in the frigid late-night stillness of the city, the knight realized that this was what he'd been missing.
Carefully, he leaned down this time, and pressed his lips to Zane's mouth -- it was hasty, graceless, and unsure, but heartfelt. When he finally pulled back, his ruffled hair clung to his cold-flushed cheeks and his red eyes were wide. "I love you too, Zaney." He drew an embarrassed breath, looking away for a moment before letting his eyes fall back on the kuppy. "But then, I think you knew that...."

Zane was caught off-guard, gasping, but cut off by the kiss. His tail wagged happily, and the kuppy simply lived in the moment. Not even the cold could bother him right now. He smiled shyly, blushing still, and clung tighter to the centaur, making their way down the street back towards HyTech. "Well, I know for sure now," he whispered into the other's shoulder, purring. This was the best way to start the new year.
