" Perhaps." Evy remarked in her lightest tone, tinged with a chill. The smile abruptly fell off her face. Why did everything have to return to the school, or their past, or things that could not be changed?
' Admittedly, I dwell on my past aswell but..' She spared him a glance, before looking off to her left and pretending to examine the rest of the room.
" If this is how you talk to all the girls, I'd have to agree, at least in part, if someone said you were not so socially graceful either." There was a forced playful note to her tone to disguise her hurt. She didn't want to start a fight with him, either.
' Not socially graceful, I look like the woman he Fell for..The odds are against me, it seems. Or perhaps this is some outside source saying no? Wouldn't be suprised.'

" Oh, the nights still young. I'm sure something will happen that will liven this place up." Ella remarked, taking a seat next to him and fiddling with her necklace. If there was one notable thing she liked about him-there were alot but this was only one- is that he was very easy to talk to. Though, of course, she minded her manners and spacial relation, and toned the weirdness down a bit, it was still nice to talk to this handsome boy.

She wasn't so sure about the table, though.

Bastian laughed lightly. "I get it, I get it. Sore spot? My appologies. I merely meant that we complimented each other's strengths." He stopped talking for a moment so that she could calm down. It did neither of them good to dwell on strengths and weaknesses at a time like this. He was admittedly reminded strongly of the past. They had wished to dance like this, but saddly it had never come to pass. He shook himself of those tragic days, and reminded himself strongly of his purpose and who he was with now. She needed him to be in the present.

Samyule glanced around and sighed. "I feel so stiff in all of this, ever since we got here and had to wear those uniforms. Shame we can't all just...run around in our PJs." An image of him walking in on the girls and Colin the other day flashed in his head. Both of the boys had been dressed in their night attire, but everyone felt so much more at ease than they did here. All of the fancy trappings reminded them to stay in their place.

" Then you could have said that." She said, rolling her eyes. The magnificent waltz ended for a softer song. Evangeline disentangled herself from him, drawing her chin to a proud angle and her back to be a straight as she could make it.
" If you'll excuse me, Sebastian. I wish to take in the night air, and to get a better handle on these emotions that threaten to disrupt our time together, as little as it may be." She turned, speaking again before she went.
" Follow if you must, but only if it has some meaning to you for you to do so." With that ultimatum in the air, she glided away as if the floor was air, as regal as any perturbed woman could be. She passed through the crowd, and out into the gardens, her step quickening as she met the night air.

Ella grinned.
" Well, I promise we'll do that again sometime." She looked around at the passerby and nodded towards a door leading outside.
" It's doubtful many are out there, and I saw a few passages leading to different places on the main path. If you wish, we can leave to act like idiots out there and get away from all of this." She sent him a smile that was hard to resist.

Satisfied that MaryAnne wasn't about to tumble to the ground in a fantastic rain of punch, Gerald casually settled himself a few tables back into the seating area. He chose a somewhat central location, so he could keep his eyes and ears open. There were other people scattered around the tables, but only a few were sitting or eating already. Most were still milling about, perhaps trying to work up the nerve to strike out onto the dance floor, and more students were still arriving. Scanning the crowd, he mentally ticked off the people he recognized and categorized the ones he didn't.

Somewhere off to his right, he could hear MaryAnne introducing herself, probably to the man he'd seen talking with Fern. He didn't risk glancing over at them; he wasn't really that far away, and there was a lot of open space between them and his table at the moment. Instead, he sat back in his chair and let his face slip into his classic 'not really interested' expression. Not exactly foreboding, but not really friendly either.

Samyule grinned wolfishly. "Lead the way. I've never been one for staying indoors too long anyway. It's just..." He looked at her outfit, and recalled the ankle thick snow on the ground. "Won't you get too cold?" He hated the thought of her being uncomfortable outside because he was uncomfortable inside. That simply wouldn't do, and it was no way to treat someone he had intended on rescuing from a night of single-person boredom.

He chuckled as she left. But elegantly, Bastian followed her from the dance floor, not two steps behind. She was intending to make this difficult for him, or to give him no other choice but play his hand early. My my, he knew the Angelic guards were feisty, but they had no idea what they'd let go. Or maybe they did, and that's the reason.

Either way, he followed her into the chill air, fanning his wings to catch the breeze. He never flew anymore, it seemed pointless. For him, it wasn't joyous. As a physician, he told himself his interests were on the land. They were the people and creatures he was asked to heal. And though in the mortal world he had to rely upon mortal remedies, he had come to appreciate the Earth as he had once done the sky.

Evangeline moved quicker than he, it seemed. Not suprising. By the time she heard his steps muffled in the snow, Evy was already atop a far rock, her wings fanned out to let them hit the occasional breezes. She'd fluttered up there, enjoying the brief flight, and sat, waiting. Her back was perfectly straight, her eyes were trained on the skies and were cold, and she was every bit the angered female general, sans a sword in her hands. But, to be fair, she was angry at herself, not him.

Ella shook her head.
" Oh, pfft. I don't mind the snow, and its not as chilly as you might think out there." She rose gracefully despite her usual clumsiness and held her hand out to him, grinning.

Gavin smiled and swept into another bow, landing a courtly peck on the back of her hand. He had, of course, noticed her teeter, but said nothing of it. He was not that kind of noble or person to remark on others shortcomings or what-have-yous.
" It is a great honor to make your aquaintance, my lady." His voice was lyrical and definently elven.

User Image The blond blushed, even though she'd been expecting it. With her years on Earth, she wasn't used to the manner in which he presented himself, but it seemed silly to her that no one else did - she briefly wondered what the world would be like if chivalry hadn't died. The angel found herself carefully curtsying again and smiling. "A pleasure sir, I'm sure."
MaryAnne glanced away, towards the dance floor, casually, then scanned the seating area. She blinked and pulled her wings in tightly as she saw Gerald; her back straightened and she smiled slightly - so it was him who'd been watching her. She was slightly comforted by the thought.
"Excuse me," she said, turning back to Fern and Gavin. "I see someone I'd like to say hello to. Sorry I keep leaving you, but I trust you're in good hands." She giggled, speaking to Fern then smiling at Gavin.
She turned and held her skirt with one hand, the other still delicately grasping her champagne glass as she moved towards where Gerald was seated. On passing, she added her empty glass to a collection of others on a server's tray. She could feel, even from this far away, his expression didn't portray the person inside of him, or the thoughts and emotions inside his head. MaryAnne found herself smiling as she arrived at Gerald's side, having approached from behind, but not very descretely, with the faint tap of her heels and the satin whisper of her gown.
"Gerald?"

Fern watched after her friend for a few moments. It was a marvel to her how she could adjust to a situation so quickly, as if she herself had experienced it all and simply had to switch gears, so to speak. She'd seen her bashful and shy, but with Gavin... she was seemingly relaxed. Maybe this night, or life itself, was a grand fairy tale for MaryAnne. Fern couldn't really tell.

Bright fae eyes saw the boy at the table her friend had skimmed over to. Gerald? She had met the quiet boy what seemed like ages ago near the gazebo. He had tried to swat her...
But it seemed like MaryAnne saw something within him that needed reaching out to, and that was a good enough conclusion for Fern to reach before she pulled her eyes back to Gavin.

"Aye, I do like her," she muttered before flashing a white smile. "You're always so courteous, Gavin." And with a definite, unmistakable twinkle in her eye, Fern held out her hand, the other pulling the folds of her dress to one side for better walking. "But do you dance as well as you speak? I'm sorely tempted to find out."

Sebastian paused at the bottom of the rock she'd stopped on, looking up. Was he supposed to follow? She wouldn't know that he didn't fly anymore - that he possibly couldn't fly anymore - but he had no intentions on confessing that weakness. She would find out as he started climbing, which he did carefully lest he do some unfortunate damage to his new and expensive suit. He was surprised at how much athleticism he'd maintained over the years, and that he could keep his balance particularly well.

Once he reached the top, he did nothing but stand beside her. "So, now that you've got me here, shall we call a truce?" He looked positively human without his wings unfurled. All the scars of his past and the worries of his present showed plainly on his young face.

Samyule noticed the two angles...or ex-angels he supposed - leaving to one side of the Ball grounds. He gestured over to a small enclosed garden with a charming fountain lit magically from inside the water. On top of the fountain was the Academy's favorite Greek goddess - Diana - holding a small water lily in her hand. The benches were free of snow so he sat down, carefully minding the brocade on his jacket. "Cozy place" He said, grinning as his breath came out in puffs of steam.

Gerald looked up as though he had just noticed her, but he had been aware of her approach. "Good evening, MaryAnne," he responded, managing to keep his voice quiet and polite.

He didn't know why she had come over... had she seen him tailing her? It didn't seem likely; she hadn't turned to look behind while they had been walking. Still, he was nervous. His first impulse had been to remain remote and disinterested, but when faced with her angelic beauty, every plan he had been formulating in the few moments before she arrived deserted him. It took conscious thought for him even to remember to blink. He had no idea what to say next, so he silently waited for her to speak, hoping that he was keeping his expression steady.

User ImageThe angel laughed nervously, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. She could feel his emotions, but didn't draw them into her, keeping her own composure, focusing on herself.
"It's good to see you. Seems it's been ages. Are you... All alone?" MaryAnne asked him, standing at his side, hands clasped behind her. She found it hard to believe; he seemed charming enough, when he didn't play his "whatever" card.
Someone bumped past her and she gasped, stumbling and catching herself on the back of Gerald's chair. She frowned, shot a glare behind her to whomever has been so rude, but they'd disappeared into the crowds.

Almost before it even happened, Gerald tensed, and his hand came up, as though to steady her. He just as quickly dropped it back into his lap. The angel had caught herself just fine. No harm done. Still, he felt a wave of supreme annoyance. His eyes narrowed slightly as he threw together a mental sketch of the girl who had nearly knocked MaryAnne over. He was certain he would recognize her if they met in the future. So careless... Somehow, unintentional rudeness made him more angry than the sort of directed rudeness he often employed. He blinked once and focused again on the conversation at hand, forcing his shoulders to relax.

How should he play this? He had to stay cool. "For the moment," he murmured, picking up the conversational thread where it had left off. He tried to stop noticing the way her blond hair shimmered under the twinkling lights of the canopy.

Smiling and greatly looking forward to the night's events, Damian walked into the ballroom and took in all of the attendants.

Breath-taking. Each individual had come dressed in their respective style and it was a sight to see. Though at the moment, the sight he most wanted to see was that of Danni. What would she don for the evening? Straightening his own shirt, he walked through the others to search.

User ImageShe blinked and looked away; either he was a man of little words or he didn't wish to speak with her. She fiddled with the fabric of her gown. Retreat! Her mind shouted at her. His demeanor made her want to.
"Uhm, well... I just wished to say hello. Since you seem to be... Uh, well... I suppose I'll just excuse myself?" She felt flustered and she was chewing slightly on her lip, stammering with her words. She took a small step back, almost teetering again in her heels.

Evangeline spared him a glance, almost wishing he hadn't come, but happy that he had.
' Silly emotions..they're so annoying..'
" What for?" Her voice was toneless, and she straightened her back again on the rock.

Ella smiled, turning her attention to the statue. There was an almost enraptured look on her face. It took all of her to prevent herself from dipping her head and mumuring " My lady." at the goddess. Diana was not one she had dedicated herself to in full- that was Cerridwen-but she still had the utmost respect for all the other Gods and Goddesses, despite the fact they could all be considered one god or goddess under different names. It could get rather confusing at times.
She elected only for reaching up and brushing her fingertips against the water lily, before finding a seat next to him.
" It's alot warmer here than I thought it would be."

Danni was currently talking to a small group of guys around the punch bowl, feeling vaguely...something. It wasn't annoyance, or discomfort, just something she couldn't identify. Boredom, perhaps. She partially blocked out the voices and let her eyes scan the room while taking a sip of the punch that was in one hand.

Gavin grinned and slipped his hand into hers.
" Believe me, mellonamin. I am quite the expert." The fae and the elf traipsied onto the dance floor and after waiting for an opening, were swept away into the lively waltz. He grinned at Fern whilst they did, his feet following patterns that had been engrained into his mind after countless hours of lessons.
