Lor blinked at Voltaire, a tad owlishly, and then looked away sheepishly. It was only when she heard Anjette's entreaty that she looked back over to the two of them.
"A... alright... thank you..." Yes, perhaps she could be of some help in the future. Most of the others were probably as well versed in languages and sewing as she, but they had so many other things to take care of. Maybe offering her services as a teacher might be a good thing...

|Go for it, Missa! Have Kale play with Ro. ^^ She used to love to bounce on his head.| Caroline, her walk through nostalgia completed, peers at Emelyn. "Em," she says concernedly, "Are you quite alright?" Her eyes flicker from Em to Voltaire, then down to Anjette and to Pierre, and back to Em.

Her eyes never left the dark little infant, but she shook her head and answered.
"No, Caroline- don't you see? Annjette? Don't you remember?" Her fingers went up to her lips as if unbidden. "I thought they'd been lost. So long ago, I'd almost forgotten." Moist eyes looked over at Voltaire.
"Where... where is her mother?"

Her brow furrows. "Why yes....I do remember," she says faintly. "It's been a long time," she agrees.

Voltaire smiled at Lor before glancing back between Em and Caroline for a moment raising an eyebrow, "Fort..unette? I do not know what she is." He glanced down at the girl and touched he cheek, and Annjette leaned toward the touch, "I just know I found her lost and weeping when I first came to this place. There was no notes and not far from where she was there was signs of another person being with her, but no one was around. I even stayed a couple of days with her where I found her to see if someone came." He looked back Em for the most part, "I did not find nor see her mother in my travels. Believe me I made an effort to seek her. I even hoped she was here. For Annjette's sake."
Annjette clung to the man's arm before he could retract his touch, "Mama gone, but Papa please no leave too," She whimpered softly.
"I think..I got adopted either way." He chuckled slightly, "She knows what happened to her mother, but cannot communicate it."

"The poor dear," murmurs Caroline softly. She crosses herself quickly, praying for the safety of Anjette's mother. Rojiza, woken by the clamour of voices, crawls sleepily up to Anjette. She wraps her arms around the small girl's waist and leans her head on her shoulder. She'd seen Caroline do this many times when trying to comfort her smaller brother. "Perhaps," says Caroline, "We'd best give Voltaire a short history. The story of the Fortunettes, as it were."

Leshya'e picked up Anezka and walked over to Caroline, nodding, "Yes...maybe we should all go and sit down over there" She gestured to the patch of grass on the side of the road.

Emelyn followed the others, picking up Pierre on her way over to the grass. When they were seated, she turned the hedgehog-like infant towards Voltaire.
"Fortunettes... are children of magic. They are part of everything in existance. They know what it is like to be an object, something inanimate to the world... they know what it is like to be an animal, and now, in this stage, they have a bond between three worlds. The animal..." she ruffled the mass of quills at the top of Pierre's head, "the magical... and of humanity." She hugged Pierre. "They are our legacy. Annjette," she indicated the beautiful little infant, "Used to be a mirror. And then she was a black swan. Her mother's name was Laur...and she left us so long ago. ..." Emotion overcame the woman, and she covered her eyes in a second of joy. "Oh, I'm so glad you found her, and that at least she's alright. We'd thought them both lost."
Any more... she couldn't vocalize- she was too overcome. The others would have to explain.

"Yes," continues Caroline. "Em and Pierre knew Laur and Anjette best," she murmurs. "We're so glad you've found her, though." She ruffles Rojiza's hair. Rojiza had been busily tearing grass out of the ground. She chewed on some experimentally and quickly spat it back out.

Annjette's reaction to Rojiza's comforting was to hug back to the other before everyone got up and relocated, thus seperating the pair. Voltaire lifting her up and carrying her while he offered Lor a hand to get up and move as well.
Once everyone was resettled Annjette found herself on his lap, which settled Annjette just fine. She snuggled up against him and drowsily listened as Voltaire did, though he did most of the listening as she dozed off.
He gave Em a small smile and nodded to both her and Mene in an understanding manner, "I guess this means I will be remaining amongst you. Which does my heart some joy having lost my old caravan. It would be best if I stayed as I am sure Annjette would surely like to be amongst her peers while growing up." He smiled a little more, "Plus it wouldn't do to promise my new friend a home in my wagon if my wagon was not here."
A moment of silence and then he speaks up again, "I would be honoured to live amongst you all anyhow, if allowed. I want to raise Annjette. I .. I love her dearly and I do not know her very long." This time he was a little emotional but he held back his tears with a small sniffle, the now sleeping Annjette just nestled her head into the crook of his arm.

Lor took his hand, pulling herself to her feet with his help. She watched the goings-on quietly, cradling her little burden to her bosom. A soft smile crossed her face at the mention of her as a... friend. And a new home.
But a friend was definitely what she needed at the moment. The people here were all so nice, but she felt.. disconnected from them. Maybe it'd be easier to connect with this Voltaire. She could hope so, at any rate.
