Rhys stuck around with the sick and wounded, making sure no Mauthe Doogs tried for an easy snack.

Thankfully, reinforcements had arrived--several of his healers, among them a few more priests, had appeared to tend to the ill and injured. The appearance of a few extra soldiers helped set up a perimeter, protecting those who would have otherwise easily fallen.

"Hey, Rhys," one of his priests--a narrow-eyed man wearing heavy black robes and a mask--spoke up. "I think there are a few more of those creatures headed in our direction."

Sure enough, four more had appeared, readying themselves for a full-scale frontal assault.

"Aw, no..." Rhys responded.

"What do you mean, 'aw, no'!?" A surviving guard responded, puffing up his chest. "They caught us off-guard before, but blast if they get past us! Come on, men!! GET THEM!!"

With a chorus of jolly battle cries, the perimeter broke formation and smacked right into the Mauthe Doog charge--one received a faceful of lance, another was pinned down by two men and speared, and a third tried to jump over the counter-charge, but received a castration-by-sword for its trouble. Another lance quickly put it out of its newfound eunuchhood.

That left the last one, who managed to evade the angry mini-mob with some quick thinking and dashing off to the side. Following that, however, all it could do was try a frontal charge against the "easy prey", which was suicide against Rhys' Light.

"If they'd caught us off-guard, it wouldn't have been so easy," Rhys noted as the last beast collapsed to the ground. "Good eye, Jin."

"It's not that dark yet," Jin responded, eyes scanning the landscape for more. "They're not very well camouflaged."

"No, they're not," one soldier agreed, returning from the quick slaughter. "We need to get these people out of here. Can any of you move?"

With some weary grunts and moans, survivors were helped to the feet.

(Two? Three remaining?)

Ed had followed the reinforcements to the castle, her nose to the ground until she spotted the Mauthe Doogs, Immediately the black wolf lowered her head and bristled toward any which remained. But Ed caught sight of the unusual presence of ice blocking the entrance to the castle, and she relaxed her stance for a moment, puzzled by what had happened here.

As they approached the castle, Fire Dragon could see a few Mauthe Doogs between himself and Rhys. He quickly smoldered them to cinder with his Flametongue as he and Nils approached the priest. No trashy animal could stand against their (Dragonic) Brotherly Love Combo!

"What happened here, Rhys?"

A quick swish of his staff held the creatures at bay for a few moments longer, but more pressing than the ones on him were the ones attacking Soren. With a worried look, the bishop rushed towards the young man, book coming up again to fire off another flash of light at the animal that had sunk its teeth into the sage. As the beast flew backwards, Renault, without stopping, bent and pulled Soren to his feet, left arm curling around under the other's shoulders to support him. "Not yet, child," the man muttered, backing away from the creatures and dragging Soren along with him. "You're hardly old enough to know what you're doing, let alone be taken by things such as these." For a moment, Renault looked at the sage, and gave him a quiet smile; something that up to now had not been something many would see him do.

His book of light stayed up, and he fired a burst into the snow in front of them. Said snow shimmered for a moment, then iced over, causing the remaining animals to yelp and fall all over themselves trying to cross it. The bishop closed his eyes for a moment, then released a far more powerful burst of light, one that would likely be seen across the courtyard; but when it cleared, the creatures in front of him were no more. His breath came more heavily now, but he didn't seem too tired; perhaps his skills had improved in the time he had been gone? He turned towards the other group, one hand coming up to signal to Rhys. "My apologies, Soren, but I neglected to bring a healing staff with me this time."

One of the soldiers dropped his weapon in shock.

"A d... A dr... A dr...!!"

"Wait," Rhys said before anyone could try to fling a javelin or something. "Those two are with us."

He stepped forward to the Fire Dragon and Nils.

"As far as I know, some weirdo named... Lysander? Alexander? Something like that. He's some powerful sage who kidnapped Nino and then told us he was king of this place and we should leave this place at once. Right now, we're just trying to keep any Mauthe Doogs at bay. Tell me, is the lake safe? These people need to be moved to safety!"

What a strange string of events, the Fire Dragon thought. He simply ignored the strange behavior of the soldiers unused to his presence; he was certainly accustomed to it.

"It is as far as we know. We just came from there. Nils told me this place was under attack and we came here as soon as we could. Extra firepower is certainly always desirable, right? So is this Sage guy locked up in the castle or something?"

{Last post of the night... don't kill me! DX}

After Tibarn swept Arya away, the nomad could fight easier, having to go by pure survival instinct. "I will make it out of this... and then... all of us.. to the FEFGA house fortress we'll ride, comrades! We'll form a strategy to save Nino... after we survive this battle. And surely... Father will come in the end!"

With such motivation, such pride, Sue and her mount rode into battle ready to risk everything once again for the sake of peace in the kingdom.

Soren was gasping by the time he had himself leaned against the bishop's shoulder.

"D-don't call me a child — !" he breathed, hardly able to sustain any volume in his voice. More pain was written in his face than anger, blood streaming from his wounds, one ankle weak from the abuse it had taken. Soren managed to observe Renault's magic at work.

He took a few deep breaths, his body swaying despite support.

"My...my apologies, Father Renault," Soren gasped, "I truly appreciate...that you saved me..."

He shook his head, turning away from the drapery that lay still upon the bloodied snow. "I was unarmed. I have an explanation for that, but...call me a fool for not having a vulnerary on my person..."

Soren glanced at the others, believing that the enemy had been routed for now. He tried to stand on his own, but his wounded ankle would not allow it. The mage winced and leaned once more against Renault, passing a glance to Ed, who had just arrived.

You just got here?

Blossom fought her way back towards where Rhys and his group were, protecting their friends. She glanced at Amelia, who was busy fighting off a rather stubborn Doog, then looked over to FD. She hid the shiver she felt towards him and looked over at the remaining two, crouched low and growling menacingly. "I'm not sure... but whatever the case is, we can't do anything else until these guys are gone!"

Melethia charged the castle. With no tomes or staves with her she had to fight with was dragonic strengh she has. Not that would be something bad. But she wished she had a tome with her. She started doing hand-to-hand combat. but it just wasn't effective as a spell.

"If anyone has a spare Anima tome," She yelled, "I could sure use it!"

A presence moved through the battlefield, an unseen, cloaked figure, walking on top of the snow rather than through it. The beasts were being dispatched more easily than he had anticipated.

He settled, invisible to all around him, in the garden, and smiled to himself. Softly, unheard, he murmured, "The moon is my mother, the sea is my father..."

A scream from down the street rang out as the last of the wolfish beasts fell. A woman ran out from between two houses, crying out in fear, tears streaming down her face as a massive red appendage whipped out of the alley and grabbed her by the ankle. She screamed again as it hoisted her into the air, and a gigantic, bloodshot eye floated out into the street, attached to the tentacle. It stared at the woman and suddenly she seemed to be wracked with pain as the Mogall emitted a blast of dark magic that stunned her as it fed off of her memories, and then it dropped her limp body to the ground and turned toward the group around the castle.

Twenty-five or so of its brothers joined it, including three dark red Arch Mogalls. They stared at the group assembled there for a moment, then scattered throughout Castle Town to attack any innocents they could find.

"From the ground, at least, yes," Rhys answered. "I think he made this gigantic ice pillar fall over and block the front entrance. You might be able to unfreeze it, but if self-proclaimed 'King Lysander' takes notice, we could be in bigger trouble."

(I now know it's Leander, but I'm going to say Lysander until someone corrects me.)

"Honestly. I need to decide rather to stay here or at the lake." Nils thought to himself, keeping close to Fire Dragon for his own safety. He nodded at Blossom and reached into his pocket, checking for something. His fingers closed around a ring, and he smiled.
It was Ninis' Grace.

His eyes widened as he noticed the reinforcements. He was speechless.

Ed immediately whirled around.

She snarled at the creatures that had come upon the field, bristling at their fantastical appearances and the magic auras they exhumed. The wolf grouped with the most of her comrades with a glance back to Renault and Soren, her tail lashing.

Amelia felt a shiver roll down her spine as she managed to kill the Mauthe Doog she had been busy battling. All-too-familiar floating eyes, Mogalls, floated out of the darkness and towards them. She took a step back, towards Rhys. "They're... magic-based," she said to the priest once she had regained her composure. There had been no warning; those beasts were so eerie with how silent they were sometimes. "So we'll have to be careful."

"My sword isn't a king!" Blossom shouted as the Mogalls appeared. She stuck close to the others, gripping her sword tightly. This wasn't good. This wasn't good. "Is everyone okay?" she shouted in worry.
