"You're good at this," said Carlisle, entering the number and feeling just a tiny bit thrilled that he'd got it right. It had just been a guess, after all. He moved on to the next problem, puzzling over it- do to the bottom what you do to the top, what did that mean? "Do you think lunch is soon," he asked meditatively after getting the same problem wrong three times.

Maddy wasn't quite sure how to go on after that, so she went back to staring miserably at the math problems. They didn't seem to be getting any easier, and with a whopping 1-16 success ratio so far she couldn't help but wish the whole thing would be over soon.

The class was saved by the fact that the bell rung for lunchtime; they'd spent a goodly portion just waiting for IT. "Take a worksheet from the table," said Beatrix, "that's for Friday's homework; I want it completed over the week, and we'll also work on it in class. Dismissed. Pick up everything you've left, if you please!"
"Thank you, class," said Lida, a little nervously.
Cascati just sighed heavily, as relieved that was over. The noise of packing-up students and kids leaving other classrooms rang through the room: it was done.
