Well, once upon a time the 49ers had a receiver named Terrell Owens. Now that would be an interesting combination: T.O. and Singletary.

No telling what the owner and GM are planning to do with the o-line, but then again I'm not exactly keeping headlines with the 49ers. I'd say if they are willing to look elsewhere for a potential QB and have the funds to support it then they could snag a chance at Cassell who will be a free agent in the offseason.

T.O. probably won't return to the 49ers. He wants to win right now, and is getting too old to wait for a rebuilding process. I also think that Jerry Jones would never trade or release his star wide receiver, that brings in publicity.

And I think that Matt Cassel will stay with the Patriots. First of all, he wants to stay in New England if he can. Secondly, word is that Tom Brady is behind schedule in his recovery, and may need another surgery, which would keep him out for next season as well. Then the Patriots would be poised to keep Cassel and re-sign him for the time being.

On no, I was not really looking for a T.O. return to the 49ers. I just find the idea amusing.

I would love for Cassel to remain in NE, then again I would love for another well-deserving team to get him as well. Still, I read that it will be pretty costly for NE to sign him on for next year and should Brady suddenly in the last minute be given the call to play for the '09 season then where would that leave Cassel? Cassel has a good resume on his hands, I really don't think he's ready to go back to being second.

Yeah, Cassel would probably thrive with almost any other team. Just needs a decently good supporting cast. But what puzzles me is how Cassel played so well with the Patriots despite getting the early call to right right away. Maybe a greater portion of Tom Brady's success than we thought, is owed to their offensive group...And Belichick...But Brady is still among the top two QBs in the league.

I think it has a lot to do with Belichick. My mom and I don't like him as a coach, but we know he's practically gifted. I believe Cassel would do good with any team, but I don't think he would have as big as a success as he did with NE - at least not right away. It really would depend on the team he signs with. In fact, Cassel would not be good with SF now that I think about it. Being with NE, they're more of a throwing offensive team even though their rushing offense did get the front seat for this season. Cassel has a pretty good arm, but with SF I don't think Singletary would use it much since he wants a running offense.

The Patriots were still a pass-first team this season, although their rushing game became more involved this season. And yes, the Patriots were 11-5 this season in large part because of Belichick and their defense.

I don't really know how Cassel would do in SF, but he should do pretty well anywhere he lands (or stays).
