I hate it when people who say those things are the ones who aren't actively involved in any school activities and are just the ones who sit in the audience soaking what people have to provide for them. They don't appreciate how notoriously hard marching band is sometimes, same with sports.

Hate to burst your bubbles, but band really isn't a sport.
Think about it - it's about the same amount of work as, say, performing in the school musical.
You go to practices. You work your butt off for hours at a time. You memorize music, and insane choreography. You perform in front of a large audience, it's nerve-racking. Seriously, you wouldn't call drama a sport would you?
Though I suppose competitive marching bands are certainly different. Especially drum corps. But whatever.

Well of course Concert Season isn't a sport....but Marching band is!
It's hilarious....I can do more pushups at a time than the entire JV and freshman football teams....
Seriously...what kind of guys can't do more than 30 pushups at a time?

I don't do pushups, because I really don't see how having toned arms is going to help me play saxophone. :/
But good for you.

But good for you. well, it depends on what kind of saxophone. alto or tenor... those are pretty light. they arent bad to carry at all. but with a bari sax, you have to hold it off your body and up. plus, visuals need arm strength and control to snap the horn up and down just as fast as you could with a piccolo. Plus you need to be able to control the horn while snapping, so it doesnt fly out of your hands. ^-^;;

Yeah...I play alto. I guess it's more understandable with a bari.

... heh...
I have to do push-ups because otherwise holding up a mellophone for such a long time would get tiring. As a freshman my arms would be shaking by the end of practice, but, 100 push-ups a practice afterward, it's no problem whatsoever. Personally, I believe that marching band should be a sport because we're out there working out more often than the football team. We're on the field before, during, and after their practices, marching parade, running laps, doing push-ups and jumping jacks, etc.

Off Topic: During our homecoming, we had a tv crew there doing something about the cheerleading there. But they decided to film us anyway, and now my whole marching band is signing realese forms to be on national television. Now people will know what it takes to be like us.
On Topic: There are so many stereotypes out there. People don't know what they are talking about. And these are a bunch of idiots. No offense to anyone who know these people. Like my BD said "If they had a life, they'd be with us." This was after someone called us p*****s
