As Riyo spoke, Deacon listened intently. A smile tugged at his lips as the girl seemed so proud of her deeds, no second thoughts and no pity for those who had stood in her way. It was ironic, he thought, that those two liked her so much. Hitsu never was the type to agree with violence, and Yuki was far from the sort to condone murder. Yet, all the time they'd had the undesirable sort walking right alongside them.

Or, were they so naive as to not realize the clear dangers of some of their company? It was really none of his concern, he couldn't care less so long as he didn't get caught up in any crossfire. Look out for number one, that's all he was concerned about in the end.

Riyo's retelling of the night had almost given him chills. Was he afraid? Disturbed? Not in the least. Memories of his own flickered vividly in his mind, arousing those same feelings of power that he had posessed during the younger years of his life. Even during this, he tried to visualize the setting... Which, perhaps because of his own, twisted mind, only seemed to result in faces familiar to himself being caught up in merciless slaughter. Ah, more than once in his youth he'd wished nothing more than to witness that pitiful little village burn to the ground with the lot of its people still inside.

It was actually several seconds after she had stopped speaking before he realized so, staring forward at the fire only to suddenly snap his attention back to her. There was a pause, before the last of her words seemed to work their way past the darker thoughts in his mind. "Of course." He said hastily. Of course what? "That is, you shouldn't feel guilty. They asked for it themselves... And had you not gotten rid of the lot of them, the remnants would have come back to haunt you..."

His gaze shifted back to the fire, and a thought passed his lips in a soft murmur. "Just like mine have come back to haunt me."

Riyo was only half-surprised at Deacon's reaction. Something told her that the deeds the world condoned, he welcomed with open arms. Though, that last comment sorta caught her off-guard.

She looked up at him with a raised eyebrow. What did he mean? What had he done? She wanted to ask. But she didn't think he'd say.

"What do you mean by that?" It took her a few moments before she asked him.

He shrugged lightly, "Well, this little trip wasn't a part of my plans."

"I never intended to go back to that village, yet here I am... Going along with it." He sighed, seemingly frustrated. "I don't even know why they want to go back. After finally escaping it to see all that they've seen."

He doubted that it would actually happen, in the end. If that were the case, if his fellow felines had it in their heads that they were just going to drop him off at his wife's feet and be gone afterward... Well, they had another thing coming.

"All I wanted was my freedom, but apparently that was too much to ask."

Riyo quickly realized exactly what he was talking about. Hitsu and Yuki wanting to go home... And taking him with them. To her, this 'home' was the enemy. Because she surely couldn't go with them.

"It makes me mad whenever I think about that." Her eyes focused on the fire again. Almost perfectly reflecting her words. She rested an arm on her leg and used it to prop up her head. "If they want to go home so badly, they should've told all of us to ******** off so they could do their thing and go." It was so cruel. To hold kindness to a person's lips, let them get the taste on their tongue, and pull it away. She didn't care that they were happy at their little village. They could be happy with her, right?

Was she... Not good enough?

No, no in all honesty she wasn't. But is that what they thought of her?

"... What drove you to marriage? Is it really as suffocating as you make it seem?" She figured she'd think about something else... Though, it was a question she actually wanted to know the answer to. She didn't understand the objective of marriage.

Oh, so apparently she felt the same way. Interesting. Deacon wasn't exactly surprised by this tidbit of information, though. Riyo didn't quite strike him as the sort who'd stroll into an unfamiliar village or city and call it home without complaint. Or, at all really. After all, he recalled learning of just where they had found her. Surely if she'd wanted company, she wouldn't have remained alone in the forest until she and his 'friends' had stumbled upon her.

"They expected you to go along with it." He stated simply, looking to her from the corner of his eye and she stared angrily at the fire. "Isn't it obvious?" He gave a short laugh, "They don't realize how reckless they are, trusting the members of the foreign tribes... And the humans." He trailed off, shaking his head to himself. Humans. He still couldn't believe that he was being forced to travel alongside humans.

To her question, he smiled. "That's a good question... Thinking about it now, it was a foolish choice. I guess I wanted to get a taste of the family life." He rolled his eyes. At himself? Probably so. "She was a sweet woman."

"I don't much care for sweets."

Riyo listened intently to his explanation. Though, it wasn't very satisfying. A taste of the family life? Well, what did it taste like? "Sorry for asking... I've just never had the opportunity to do so." Since, no one in their party, as far as she knew, had ever been married. And it wasn't like she could just stop someone in the middle of the street and ask.

It looked like he hadn't regretted leaving, either. Which, she didn't fully understand, but didn't question either. He'd been 'kind' enough to not interject when she told her stories. "I didn't know it was possible for someone to be too nice." Though, the more she thought about it, the more it made sense.

"You're not missing out." Deacon replied absently, looking off into the fog with an expression of mild disgust. He wouldn't elaborate, speak the truth that is, as it was none of her business.

Only a select few knew why he remained in that sheltered little village, and the one who could keep him there had bit the dust less than a month before he'd gotten himself the hell out of there. His wife? She'd learn to fend for herself, or starve for all he cared.

With a bit of a sneer, he spoke aloud. Be it his own thoughts, or something he'd actually wanted to share... "I hated that goddamn village, and all of the people in it. I had to get out."

"She was only one issue in a pile of s**t I wanted nothing more to do with."

Riyo lifted her head from her hand as she listened to him speak. His hate for the village was so thick she could almost taste it. And while she could understand Yuki's concern for his wife... The fact was that bringing him back would only make things much worse.

Which... Made her wonder... Just how desperate Deacon was to not go back.

She shot the thought out of her head, thinking that if he was going to do anything... Rash... He would've done it by now. Right?

Right?

Though that comforted her a little, it lingered in the back of her head. Her eyes stared into the fire. She dare not ask him about that. Because she didn't want to know the answer.

Sensing her unease, Deacon wondered if he might have just gone too far. They were sharing their secrets, right? Things that none of the rest in their company would approve of or understand. Surely she wouldn't go back to any of them and repeat anything of what he'd said to her.

Of course, if she did that, he'd have to call her out as being unstable. Surely he could bring out that temper if he really tried. Prove it to them if he had to.

Though... Even Deacon knew that even a creature they'd known for a few short months would hold more of their trust than he would, and even he realized it was for good reason. Too bad Yuki wasn't as ignorant as his sister... Worse that Neko seemed to pick up more than Yuki.

Deacon sighed, though within it there was a stifled growl, masked when the tabby cleared his throat. A change of subject was certainly in order.

How unfortunate that aside from Hanse, Deacon was probably the worst at coming up with appropriate conversation topics.

"So, you been to bed with any of them yet?"

Deacon's voice snapped her to attention after a moment of silence.

"Been to... Bed with them?" Riyo repeated the question back with a raised eyebrow, and a curious glance. Well... What did that have to do with anything? And moreover, what a strange way of phrasing it.

She puzzled over this for a brief moment. "Well... I guess... We all kinda sleep together... Though there usually isn't a bed." Considering they were almost always camping outside.

"Except Atticus. He's always somewhere by himself." Riyo rubbed her chin, stll wondering exactly why all this mattered.

"All of them?" He repeated almost immediately. He suddenly barked a laugh, surely she misunderstood.

That wouldn't keep him from amusing himself over it, of course.

"I'll be damned, I wouldn't have imagined that Hitsu swung both ways." The rest of them? Well, he didn't even know or care on their preferences. Though, somehow he could believe Yuki and Neko as the sort to not be picky. The particular mental image that accompanied that thought made him shudder in disgust.

Just as quickly, he feigned a saddened expression. "Hell, I've got to be a better lay than half of them. How'd I get eliminated without a chance to prove myself?" He cracked a grin, "And we've got so much in common... I'm offended, Darling."
PostPosted: Wed May 13, 2009 9:12 pm

Riyo's eyebrows furrowed at his response.

"Wait, what does swinging have to do with sleeping?" She imagined Hitsu on a swing tied to a tree, smiling... And swinging both ways. That had nothing to do with sleeping.

"A chance to prove yourself at what? Are there sleeping contests now? I'm not trying to offend you!" From anyone elses mouth, it probably would've been an amusing joke. But Riyo looked genuinely confused. Honestly, she thought she was crazy. Until he started asking about beds and swings.

Aww. Apparently Riyo was actually clueless about what he was referring to. The amusement on his face faded rather quickly. "Are you ******** kidding me?" The look on her face told him that she wasn't, that or she was better at acting than he was... And deserved a lot more credit than he'd been giving.

Frustrated, he rose to his feet and quietly walked up alongside her. He knelt at her side and cupped his hands to one of her ears and whispered the details. Quickly, and without much room for breath in between. Was he lewd about it? You'd better believe it. All for a more entertaining reaction.

Once he'd finished, he drew back and returned swiftly to his seat to watch the reaction as it all sank in. That, and he wanted to be out of range if she decided she wanted to kill him for his little lesson on anatomy and reproduction.

That smug grin was back, despite the possible impending injuries.

Nope, Riyo was dead serious. And she grew even more confused when he seemed angry.

Though. As he scooted closer, Riyo had an extremely bad feeling.

She listened with an open ear to every crude detail. Her expression going to curiosity, to shock, to devastation, and finally to a look combined with disgust and mortification.

As he stopped, she shot a look at him with wide eyes. Her face was very pale. That's what the big difference between the genders was. That's why they slept in seprate rooms, and THAT'S why they always told her to get dressed.

It all made perfect sense now. Her inner child writhed inside the more she thought about it. And the more she thought about it, the more she realized how incredibly embarrassed she was... And how stupid she felt for not knowing that in the first place. A blush slowly overtook her pale face... Until she was as red as a tomato.

"I think I just died a little on the inside." She spoke bluntly out of nowhere.

A hand shakily went to her head as she tried to stabilize herself. "T-that's why they always looked away when I was naked..."

The more she thought about it, the more her mind started to wander, and the more sick she felt.

"I'm never going to see them the same way again." 'Them' being the men in their little party.

It really was even better than he'd anticipated it to be. As Riyo's expression grew more mortified, his amused grin spread wider.

"I see that this is your first little talk about the birds and the bees." He could say something about how her parents should have been the ones to bring that up... But, that would have been prodding at a nerve even he didn't want to risk breaking. Not at the moment, anyway.

Her first statement brought a quiet chuckle from him, the second made him look a bit disappointed. "Hell." That was all he murmured, though. He'd missed out, sounded like. Naked women were high on his list of interests, after all.

As he'd reached out for a random stick and began to poke the fire, the last of her words caught his ears. He almost snorted. "I'm sure. All the while they'll probably just be undressing you with their eyes... Not that they'd have to imagine, really, since they've already seen it all. Yeah?" No, he wasn't trying to make it better. Not really.
