Mikaril's eyes all but popped clean out of his head at Kyil's surprising confession. "You....you know pressure points? Wow; that's even better!" He felt a genuine pang of jealousy; something he hadn't felt since his brother Triellyn had left the House. He had heard of pressure points here and there and was fascinated with the idea of merely touching someone and causing them numbness, unconsciousness, or even death. He himself had an acute fear of touch, and he had thought it as a wonderful and ironic way of asserting himself and aiding his profession.

Unfortunately, one did not go up to a drow and ask to learn pressure points. He had heard of a story where one young drow had the ignorance to ask, and the would-be instructor had obligingly shown him a double-handed point that killed in less than a minute. Trouble was he showed it to him firsthand, and then refused to show him how to reverse it.

The thought of sweet reluctant Kyil having such power at his disposal was easily Mikaril's surprise of the day. He too had little stomach for killing, preferring to keep to the shadows and avoid conflict altogether. And what better way to do so than to make the victim unable to participate in a conflict? Deep down inside, Mikaril had always had that secret burning desire to obtain power that would not be expected, and all the more effective.

He had thought at first that he would be teaching Kyil what he needed to live out here. But now Kyil had something that he wanted, very dearly.
"You've told me time and again that you wished to help me in any way you could. Would it be possible for you to teach me a few of those pressure points?"

With his eyes downcast, Kyil missed the facial expression that Mikaril turned upon him. However he could not miss the eagerness and interest in his voice. Kyil had been feeling a sickening twist growing in his stomach as he prepared to be told that it was not enough. That he had to learn to use one of the deadly items he had come close to disobaying his Mistress by his refusal so many years ago. When it was he heard the interst in Mikarils voice, Kyil lifted his head from it's bowed position to look at him curiously.

"Better? I..do not understand..." Pressure points did not seem to be...so much a great weapon. Not in Kyil's mind. He had been given a through instruction of course, as the girl whom had taught him insisted that ignorance could be as deadly a killer as knowledge. Particularly with pressure points. So he had agreed to learn the points but...only so he could avoid touching them.

Mikaril's interest in learning the pressure points was unexpected, so Kyil's answer was of course a small smile. The manner in which he placed his question garunteed only one answer of course. " Assuredly Mikaril. Whatever you want from me I will give you. If you wish to learn the pressure points I think I can teach you. But it will take a while... I will have to teach you some other things as well too...and we certainly would need a private place. The one who instructed me insisted that I be very selective about those I show the points to but...I do owe you much and I want to make you pleased. So of course I will."

Mikaril all but jumped up and down like a giddy human child just told that he could stay up late. He did let his eagerness show as he beamed, nearly hurting his face. It had been a good long time before he had had reason to smile like THAT......unless he never had; he couldn't say for sure.

"Thanks Kyil; you're pretty cool, and think of how efficient your talent could make a thieving job. We could take out guards without having to kill them; not that I'm soft, you understand; I just don't prefer to get messy. However, we had probably better get you a conventional weapon just for looks; sometimes just you having a weapon in plain sight is enough to make a would-be attacker reconsider." He silently added that it wouldn't hurt knowing how to use more than one weapon either.

He felt a feeling that he thought had died ages ago; excitement. He was going to learn something useful, possibly even get a partner in crime, if Kyil was so willing and quick to learn. He imagined he was; even in a place like a pleasure house, he figured that slow learners didn't last long. It was as though all he had experienced with his family had left a barren patch inside of him, like a dry riverbed, and this was like a thin stream that had somehow found its way there. Normally he would ignore such a feeling, so to not feel any pain when it was eventually taken from him, but because it was Kyil, he let it stay and offer him hope.

He cleared his throat and snaked his hand up to scratch the back of his neck, a gesture he tended to do when he was unsure or embarassed.
"Well....I guess we ought to find a safer place than the streets if we're going to be training and such. I don't trust dilapidated buildings because everyone wants to hide in those. Maybe we can look on the outskirts of the city and try to find a good-sized cave; I tend to feel safer around the beasts than the bipeds, if you know what I mean."

Mikaril's obvious pleasure at his compliance fulfilled Kyil's own desire. Or was it a need? He had been unable to appease anyone lately. He really did not count the ruffians from the gutters. Just seeing the look upon Mikaril's face gave back to Kyil the reassurance that he was not so completely useless.

"I would be very pleased to ser-- help you any way I can Mikaril." He honestly responded. To Mikaril's own excitement he responded with a desperate counter. If Mikaril wanted this of him he would apply himself as whole heartedly as he could...just so he would not leave him behind. Though Mikaril had told him in now uncertain terms that he did not consider himself his Master... Kyil could not stop the returning hope that perhaps...somehow...he could encourage him to accept him. Mistress Zari surely would not be unhappy so long as he remebered she was his first owner.... and if he did help Mikaril with..wait? Thieving?

It seemed to only then occure to him exactly what Mikaril had spoken. 'We' could take out guards? His pink eyes reflected a bit of befuddled surprise. Had he.... had he agreed to become a thief? As Mikaril spoke of weapons, Kyil fumbled over the realization. "Ah...yes...of course Mikaril. Whatever you believe is best I agree with..." A thief? Him? Kyil placed a hand to his chest, spreading his fingers, he peered down at the garb he currently wore.

Training...now it was that Kyil found himself wondering. What sort of training was Mikaril speaking of? The pressure points or...or...something else? Could he do such things? What if he could not? What if he did poorly!? What if he lacked skill enough and...and...well thieves had dangerouse jobs! Just look at how they had met!!

Kyil's heart was raceing by this point, and he felt a slight lightheadedness. particularly behind his eyes. This was a unpleasent feeling that he had experienced a few times before...when Mistress Zari spoke of his...his 'place' in her House. Consorts and positions and things of that sort. He had felt the feeling there at those times when she told him to look up...stop bowing...stop catering to the servants...stop speaking so meekly to the guards...stop stop stop...So many change...so manythings he had such a hard time grasping!

Kyil's fingers dug into his chest over his racing heart. The lightness was getting worse, so it was that when Mikaril spoke of caves and beasts and something like that, Kyil only vaugely nodded his head. "Yes...of...course Master..." He faintly repiled. Oh! If only his heart would slow down! Or maybe his breathing!

Mikaril pursed his lips and was on the verge of debating whether or not to grab Kyil by the shirt and shake it into him that he was NOT his master when he noticed that the words had been faint, almost a whisper, and Kyil had a decidedly gray tint to his skin. "Hey, you okay?" Silly question, he chided himself, if he was okay, he would be acting okay, and not grasping his chest as though he was about to have himself a heart attack.

Mikaril reached out and firmly took Kyil by the shoulders, steering him to where he saw two sturdy crates sitting in front of a nearby building. He carefully sat Kyil down on one so that his back was to the wall, and sat himself down beside him. Unable to resist making his legs swing back and forth a little, he looked over at Kyil.
"Now then, take a few deep breaths, then look over here at me. I know a panicked look when I see one. Perhaps I got a little overzealous at the thought of having a partner. Is that what's bothering you; the thought of doing thievery?"

He had worn that same look many times when he was just starting out, and he figured that that was the reason Kyil had gotten so panicky. He was softhearted and probably couldn't stand the thought of deliberately harming another drow, even if the other was coming at him with the intent of killing him. Much as it pained him to do it, he might have to find a way to help Kyil put that behind him. In the world they lived in, you could not hold such tenderness for your foes. Doing so would only hurry along your inevitable death, and there were plenty of cruel drow out there who would happily do worse to you before finally letting you die. He would not let such things happen to Kyil.

As he waited for Kyil to answer, he found himself wondering something. He had been told time and time again that he could trust no one and only look after yourself, since that was what was to be expected from every other drow in the Underdark. Yet here he was going the extra mile for another despite all he had learned. He knew Kyil was his friend, but he couldn't help but think that if he had any other friends, and they were in the same fix, he would have probably just given them some money and gone on his way. But with Kyil he was doing so much more, with the only profit being a pressure point lesson, and that became available after he had spent money to bathe and clothe him. He wondered if maybe there might be a deeper sort of friendship in the works here, or maybe he was glad to have someone looking up to HIM for a change.

Was he okay? Despite the overwhelming anxiety he was currently struggling under, Kyil still had enough sense about him to reply. Granted it was still in a soft undertone and lacked the usual friendly affliction to his voice. "Of course I am okay. There is no reason to concern yourself." He could be lieing on the ground severed in half and odds were he'd insist that it was nothing for Mikaril to worry himself over, that everything was fine with him. Whatever may be wrong with him or for him...that was nothing ever important enough to burden another with. It just was not the manner Kyil viewed things. Even when he was incapable of thinking clearly his good training shone through. Inwardly a small corner of his mind mused that Madam Medusa would be quite proud of him...he hoped.

Kyil found himself sitting upon a crate in the next moment. His hands fell to his sides so he could place his palms face down upon the surface. His pink eyes looked down blankly while the prickles of black spots continued to half blind him. He could feel the wall behind him and somehow the sturdiness and the lack of effort he needed to remain standing helped him calm somewhat. He listened, and of course obayed the simple directions given to him by Mikaril. He took deep breaths, which effectively helped to slow his heartbeat. From there the blurring of his vision faded, so when it was that he looked up at Mikaril he could see the other drows features well enough Still... Kyil felt it to be incredibly hard to keep his features under control. As Mikaril spoke of partners and thievery his mind simply kept returning to their meeting in the ally. How he had bumbled into the other drow, effectively ruining his chance at escape and getting him caught. Kyil's heartbeat did not begin to race again...but his lips did tremble with the effort to keep them from turning downwards.

"I...: How could he possibly answer? He wanted to do whatever it was Mikaril wanted. He wanted to...no... He needed to serve him in some manner. Kyil lifted his hand nearest to Mikaril and reached out to take the other drows forearm in his slender fingers. "I will do anything you want me to Mikaril." Kyil's voice felt a bit tight as a swell of near desperation filled him. "I only....It is just... I fear that I may not be effective. I do not want to do anything that may lead to trouble for you." Not for a moment did Kyil even think about himself. There should have been at least a flicker of concern for the danger he might be getting into...but no...all he could really think of was the terrible things that his failure could lead to for Mikaril...

Mikaril was quite glad when Kyil noticeably calmed down; he woudn't admit it to Kyil in a millenia, but seeing Kyil short of breath and panting, nearly hearing his heart thudding out of his chest, took him back momentarily to a time when HIS heart had been beating like it wanted to escape from his chest. He remembered looking down, seeing his chest move as though it was being pounded on from the inside, spots congregating at the corners of his eyes as he felt his heart aching as it attempted to pump blood that had become hot enough to be soup...

Forcefully pushing the thought away, Mikaril reached out and put a hand on Kyil's shoulder.
"Look; I know that you want to do anything that I want you to, much as I would rather you develop your own wants and interests that have nothing to do with mine, but what I don't want is for you to do something when you really don't want to or are afraid to. You've seen what my profession is like; you have to be focused and willing for it to work, and if you're the least bit hesitant, it could cost you dearly. I don't want you to wind up dead because you were just trying to please me, understand?"

He hoped he wasn't sounding rough, but he was truly concerned. Kyil was so used to being a yes-person, which was well and good if you were a lackey. But he didn't need or want a lackey, and since it seemed as though he was all that Kyil had, he wasn't going to let him go down on his watch. Even if he sounded rough to Kyil, a little roughness in comparison to capture, torture, or even death, was preferable. "I know this may sound hard, but if you're that concerned about messing up, there's two possible things we can do; either I can train you to learn the basics, and since you don't care for the idea of deliberately harming anyone, I can train you on the more simple and least risky jobs, or I can have you do something else entirely. I once bumped into a drow in my city, and we were able to team up; he entertained the crowd with magic tricks and I went around picking the pockets."

Mikaril's calmness and insistance proved to be effective in calming down Kyil's racing heart, breath, and thoughts. Though meeting him eye to eye healped in a manner as well. Meeting Mikaril's gaze, and having that gaze held gave him something to focus on. Gradually the weakness vanished from his limbs and he felt a calm return to him. It was embaressing to have such a...a episode occur in the middle of the public street, but Mikaril did not seem so concerned for it.

Kyil did not feel the slightest bit of discomfort at Mikaril's touch, as that too seemed to help ground the courtesean trained drow. Still... Despite what it was he knew what Mikaril was telling him, he could not completely grasp it. Oh! He understood it well enough. Kyil was not simpleminded nor was he a fool. Looking into Mikaril's eyes earnestly, he knew what it was his friend wanted from him.

However, all Kyil wished was to make Mikaril pleased with him, which meant discarding his own thoughts and feelings and desires. He'd been doing such for such a long time it was a struggle to pull himself out of that rut. Mikaril could not understand...it was safer for him this way. By submitting to anothers will and wishes Kyil saved himself the agony of making a true choice...or the shame of making a poor choice. Kyil nodded his head once very slowly. His lips pressing into a thin line as he considered the best answer that would appease Mikaril.

"I understand Mikaril. I was just...unprepared. Forgive me. It will not happen again. I will learn what you will teach me." What more should he say? What would be the best answer? Perhaps...

"I would learn everything that you wish to teach me Mikaril...then, once I have learned well enough. You can determin how best I can serve you. If I have skills for something I would put them to use, if not then I would rather not place you at risk. I do not think it will take long for you to determin what I am capable of...right?"

"Shouldn't take too long," Mikaril said cheerily, "As long as it takes for you to tell me everything that you can do. The best thing about the thief's profession is that lots of different kinds of skills can be used favorably, even ones that you normally wouldn't think to use." He hoped that there was something that Kyil knew how to do well that could be put to good use; he wasn't too sure that Kyil could be doing the same sort of stuff he was.

It seemed to him that Kyil was very happy with leaving the decision-making to someone else and was better off just going with the flow. He remembered when he had had that phase with Triellyn, assuming that he knew best. But he figured that Kyil despite his high position in the pleasure house, had not been involved in any major decision-making. After all, it didn't take a genious to know that a pleasure house worker wasn't there to make decisions, but to go with the ones of the customers.

But there were times, especially when you had a team following you or were part of a team, when you have to take the initiative and make decisions without consulting anyone. He figured that Kyil, not having the chance to do so in the past, was a little afraid to do it, lest he make a bad decision and look foolish. But Mikaril had been making his own decisions for a long time now, even if only recently he had stopped relying on the teachings of his brother. Maybe if he worked long enough with Kyil, he could become more comfortable with making them.

"So, getting back to a hiding place. What's say we head to the outskirts, in the direction of the Glimmersea and see if we can find a cave. Then we'd have a moderately safe place to discuss your talents."
PostPosted: Sun Nov 30, 2008 6:55 pm

Tell him everything? Kyil's mind clicked through all of the various things he had been taught and in all honesty...he knew he was forgetting some things as well. He was skilled yes! But his mind wasn't like a book! He couldn't just flip to a neatly penned list and read it off. Well..he supposed he could probably get the majority of his training mentioned. Though did Mikaril really want to hear everything?

"I...Yes Mikaril. I agree. Let us find a place to rest and I will try to tell you of my skills. There are..many..I suppose it would not hurt anything if I named the basic ones?"

With Mikaril speaking so..confidently...it was easy for Kyil to fall in line. he had just needed a moment for him to gain a grip on the sudden unexpected change. A thief...Ah! He would have to be good then...this would be no different then his training with the males at the Black. If he could undergo that sort of training then becoming a thief would have to be far easier. Yes! That was all he had to do! Just...keep it all in perspective and surely he would not dissappoint Mikaril!

Mikaril smiled as he stood up from his crate. "Yes, you can name the basic ones. Pretty much anything you're good at will do; it doesn't have to be everything you did. Like, if you were good at massage, say, but not at shining shoes, I would want to know only about the massage. It's better to tell me what you're good at without including the things you can do at a pinch." He hoped that made sense.

He walked toward the entrance to the city that he usually took, when he was coming in from the Glimmersea. He vaguely remembered seeing a dark hole or two that might have been caves; hopfully they weren't occupied by any others seeking shelter, though he sort of doubted it. Any brigands would probably have their hiding place farther from a city. While nobody would pay much attention to two male drow with no rank in the city congregating in a cave.

Once there, he looked around, and sure enough, he spotted a cave off to his left, half of the entrance blocked from view by a stalagmite large enough to be made into a building. He gestured to Kyil and carefully walked over to it, his hand on his dagger just in case. He peered into the cave mouth; when he heard and saw nothing, he stepped in. His footstep made a small echo, but as he looked about, he saw that the cave didn't look too terribly big. It was about 300 square feet give or take; plenty of room for two drow to hide out, store a few supplies, and maybe even train each other in various ways of combat.

Frankly Mikaril was a bit surprised that the cave wasn't occupied already. It was a good size, and the stagamite was quite convenient in covering it up partially. Then again, it might have been occupied a long time ago and with the growth of the stalagmite, it might have been forgotten. Out of sight, out of mind, so they say. Mikaril gestured to Kyil that all was well and smiled.
"Well, will this do, do you think? It's more than adequate for me, but will it suit you being close enough to your mistress?"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:50 pm

When Mikaril stood, Kyil followed suit. His features were more relaxed and more calm now. He felt as if he were back in control of himself after the short period of panic. He disliked that he had suffered a failing as he had, and he hoped that he would be strong enough to resist having another reoccurance.

"I believe I understand what you mean Mikaril. You would rather I informed you of skills I have been properly trained in, rather then things I believe I would be able to handle in a impropmtu situation." That made sense...and it certainly lessened the list of things he could inform Mikaril of! As the pair walked, Kyil began to inform him of the things he knew how to do. Begining with the most simple and working his way up to the more demanding skills he possessed.

"Ah let me see. Obviously I can perform the menial. Cleaning and cooking and washing. I am trained in the personal hygenie of others. Which includes hair, skin, and nail care. I also am familar with various beautician skills. Make up and presentation. Hmm... I know of mending cloth." Kyil's list would continue, going over the various different servant quality skills he had learned.

It was as they approched the glimmersea and began to scout along the edges for a cavern to Mikaril's liking that he began to describve the 'other' talents he had learned beyond his term of servants service.

"I am familar with the taste and scent of fourty different poisons, as well as the recognition of their side effects and the options of purging in accordance to those that do not immediatly kill." Kyil's hand fluttered slightly in a dismissive manner as he thought back on his claim, "Fourty does sound like a lot but it really isn't. Many of them are actually different versions of the same basic poison. So I suppose a true total would be fifteen. I have been trained in pain endurance, as well as how best to breath in situations of drowning, suffocation, crushing, and choking. This is to keep continued consciousness as long as possible of course. I Ah..." Kyil paused in his steps and his words as he attempted, tot he best of his ability, to think of a acceptable manner to word what his other training was like. As he thought, he cast his syes about the cavern that Mikaril had found.

If he had more knowledge of the way things were outside the walls of the Black and his Mistress's House, Kyil would have been very surprised at the vacancy. As it was, he let his gaze sweep with mild resignation of the place that he assumed he'd be living in for a time to come.

"I have been trained how to appease the more.. degenerate types of drow. I have the ability to submit without struggle to the brink of, and once in a while actually passing into, death. I'd rather not go into more detail about that though. It is painful...unpleasent..and I disliked greatly the feeling of returning to life. Aside from the training in pressure points and the carnal training I do not think I know of anything else I can tell you Mikaril. Unless singing, dancing, or playing a flute count?"

Kyil wandered his way into the back of the cavern, and placed a hand against a wall to feel the rough surface. Even with everything he had told Mikaril, he still felt ashamaedly lacking...if nothing else he supposed he could always...no..he did not think Mikaril would accept that...and he loathed to even suggest the idea. His head tilted a little to look at his friend from under the sweep of his long white hair.

"If I am to teach you about the points...It would be kind to have some sort of bedding or blankets present. Though I believe I can make do without if it is your wish?"

As he heard Kyil speak of padding the cave's floor with blankets, Mikaril went ahead and assumed that Kyil had no problem with the cave or its location. He waved a hand dismissively at Kyil's suggestion. "I for one wouldn't need them; hard floor can be a good teacher and an incentive to get it right in as few tries as possible." He wasn't trying to sound tough; stone floor actually didn't bother him as much as, say, a wooden floor would. He preferred hard and unrelenting to softer and loaded with splinters.

He walked over to a wall of the cave and began to carefully remove his armor, speaking to Kyil as he spoke.
"I've been thinking about the skills you mentioned; you may not realize it, but you have quite a few skills that would really come in handy in the world of thievery, more so if you were in a group of thieves. Cooking and cleaning are ways to fend off illness from eating bad or raw foods, personal hygeine is good because thieves need to be healthy and not ill-smelling, and mending cloth keeps them looking less like beggars and thieves and more like mere faces in the crowd."

He turned to Kyil as he finished removing the bottom pieces and began to work on the top. "Poison detection comes in handy for things like being a plant; working inside a rich house and gradually chipping a bit of the wealth away. Of course, that's one of the riskier methods......." He cleared his throat as he remembered Kyil's other words. "Pain endurance comes in handy too, but that's if you get caught, and we have to aim to NOT get caught." He jumped on ahead to leave that unpleasant thought behind. "Persuasion is a very useful skill as well, and you don't have to say anything more about.....the other thing. Like I said, we have to strive to NOT get caught."

He carefully sat the last of the armor aside and stood before Kyil in his thin and modestly designed black inner garments. Despite the armor being specifically designed to be lighter than his last set, he felt a lot lighter without it, almost as though he was unconsciously levitating. He knew that his armor tended to make him look bigger and stronger also, and he spared a glance down at his body. Despite an earlier accusation of him being 'scrawny', he could see muscle where there hadn't been before, although he was still pretty thin in his own eyes.

He raised his head and smiled at Kyil, then he moved forward and assumed a battle-ready position.
"Well, shall we begin?"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 7:39 pm

So then...this was to be their place. Kyil needed only a few moments to fix in his mind that this was most likely to be a long term change for him. Well..he had rested upon the walkways of the street for a time now. Sleeping in the cave ought not to be too different, and less likely for him to awaken rudely too. Still... Mikaril's earlier question, that he had choosen to not answer in favor of pressing on with his current plan for him, came back to him. Kyil cast a glance outside of the cave as he quietly listened to the comments of Mikaril. It seemed that his skills were of use to Mikaril at least. He rather hoped that he was correct about him..he would not handle dissappointing Mikaril very well, and he did not believe his new master would approve of his suggestion of selling his favors to gain coin in replacement of what had been spent on him already.

"I should definatly pray that capture does not occur. I do not wish to be in a situation similar to the one you were in when we met. It had to be...terrifying..."

He heard the dull sound of something heavy being set down, and he turned about to see Mikaril removing his armor. At first he assumed it would be for the sake of the pressure point lessons. However, as Mikaril took up some sort of stance, Kyil felt a flutter of apprehension. He approched Mikaril, his small lips twisted into a uncertain expression. "Yes Mikaril..I just... What exactly am I supposed to do now?" He felt like a dullard asking. Yet he had to remember his time with Calli... he had asked her many..many questions... Calli...

For just a brief moment a wild..crazy..utterly insane thought wriggled to the surface of his mind. "Mikaril... if I prove to be a capable student...may I request a place we...visit?"

Mikaril chuckled as he remembered all to well the day he had first met Kyil. He remembered how he had crashed into him and sent them both sprawling on their behinds in the filth. How different Kyil seemed now from then! He had been so concerned about his costume; now he seemed most concerned with pleasing whomever he could. Then again, having all that you hold dear taken from you was sure to change a person.

He smiled as kindly as he could at Kyil. "It was frightening yes, but since then I have discovered a mental weapon that I can use at will, though it won't improve the situation any. If ever I am captured and brought before an angry victim, I have but to close my eyes and imagine dear Haellara and all the creative games she used to play with me, and any form of interrogation or punishment that they conceive to use on me seem like a trivial warm-up." He didn't mention the residual feelings that those games had left on him, like his sympathetic panic upon seeing Kyil with a racing heart.

Mikaril raised his eyebrows at Kyil and stood more at ease. He nodded his head and smiled rather sheepishly.
"Alright; forgive me if I seem a little over-eager; I have had a desire to learn these for a good while now." He got into a ready stance, hoping that it wouldn't alarm his soon-to-be instructor, and hoped he was doing the right thing in keeping the floor unpadded.
