Windstorm pulled her wings closer to her body. "You're welcome." It was a small invitation to one of her domains--her sanctuary. She looked back out to the waterfall, listening to her own breathing and forgetting she had someone with her that normally rubbed her fur and feathers wrong.

Auster said no more himself as his cold gaze made its way around the clearing, taking everything in. He took a few steps closer to the waterfall, dipping his head to take a drink of the cool clear water.

Lifting his head, he turned to look back at Windstorm. "Thank you. For everything."

She turned to look at him, slightly dumbfounded. Well, don't look a gifted horse in the mouth, take it as it is. "You're welcome, again. It was a pleasure," she said and meant it. Even if he could be grumpy, he was different. He kept her on the tips of her hooves constantly.

The grumpy stallion gave her what could almost be called a smile as he turned back to the waterfall, taking a few steps closer to the pool so he could take a drink of the cool water.

She stood watching the rushing water in reflection of herself. Auster had made a change in her life. She was glad to have stumbled upon him, glad to have shown him a safe place for him to rest and be healed, but slightly pained that he would be leaving once he was well and fit for flight. Where would he go? Would he want to leave paradise and deal with the grounded below? Or would he stay?

She cleared her throat,
"you're welcome to stay as long as you like. I can speak to my grandfather about letting you be a part of the herd, if you'd like." She looked sideways at him, trying to read his reaction. "You don't have to ever leave."

He lifted his head up from the pool to look at her as she finished speaking, swallowing deliberately and slowly.

You don't have to ever leave. A part of the herd.

For a moment, he didn't think he had heard her right. After all, it was more than a little ridiculous. He, Auster, part of a herd? The idea almost made him laugh. He'd been alone, solitary, as long as he could remember. He'd been around for a very long time, and it had always been alone. He didn't play well with others, that much was obvious.

That said though... The time he had spent here had been quite relaxing. That probably had something to do with the fact that most of the members of the herd avoided him... But still. He looked around, icy eyes taking in his surroundings again. Up here, he was always close to the clouds. Up here, he was... not with his own kind, exactly, but close. There were no pesky grounded, at least. He appreciated that.

And he liked the foals. They were so innocent, untainted. They weren't assuming, they didn't look at him and judge him. A frown crossed his face for a moment... He'd never thought he would be partial to foals.

There was also Windstorm. He would be very hard pressed to begrudgingly admit it out loud, but he liked her. Well, as much as he could like someone. She still irritated him from time to time, but for the most time, her company was tolerable, perhaps even more than that. He wouldn't mind having her around.

Being part of a herd though.. He wasn't sure if he was ready for something like that. It just wasn't.. him. This wasn't his home, if he even had a place he could really call home. He loved the forest, it was his place. He didn't belong up on the mountain, pretending to be part of a big happy herd. He belonged in the dark of his forest, alone.

"I... I think I will have to decline," he said softly, looking back down at the water. "I do not think that this place could ever be my home. I do not belong here."

Well, that wasn't the most heartening response she had hoped to hear. She turned her head away from him, collecting herself before she said something foolish and put him in a foul mood. "Very well, but the borders will always remain open to you."

Who was she kidding? Like he really took that much notice in her aside from getting irritated with her banter or stubbornness. She rubbed her face against a foreleg, a few dark spots appearing. Her crying? No, never. Well, she wouldn't openly admit that.

He took another drink from the river, then lifted his head to turn back to her. He opened his mouth to say something, then immediately closed it again, his eyes widening a bit. Was she.. upset that he had said no? That was unexpected.

He just stared at her for a long moment, really not sure what to say. Normally in this situation he would have laughed and said something snide. However, right now.. He didn't think that would be for the best. He turned his head away awkwardly, looking down at the ground. It was quite a sight, the large, arrogant Angeni, looking much like an unsure child.

"I'm glad..." he said, his voice sounding odd. "I don't.. normally like outsiders in my forest, but you are welcome to come, if you wish."

That was... unexpected. She took her time before answering, "That would be enjoyable." Windstorm looked over at the Angeni with a soft smile. She wasn't sure what she meant to him, but she knew what it meant for him to offer her welcome to his home.

"I suppose," he said, eyes still on the ground. After a few more moments, he shrugged, and with a shake of his mane turned to slip into the nice cool water. He was looking for anything really, that would be a distraction from this conversation. He didn't deal with with awkward, it seemed.

"How much longer do you think it will be before my wing heals?"

She stretched out her wings in thought before tucking back against her flanks. "You should be ready to fly by the end of the month." She looked up towards the sky, judging the time by the sun. "Of course, that's a guess. That two-legger will give the go-ahead when she feels you are ready."

He bobbed his head in a nod, moving out until he could no longer touch the bottom of the pool and was forced to swim. His strong legs pumped and he swam around a bit.

By the end of the month... It was still so far away. He heaved a sigh. It'd been so long since he'd been in the air, since he had flapped his great wings. His impatience was wearing thin.

Her eyes followed him in the water, showing a slight concern that he might get the bandages on his wing wet. He was indeed a very handsome Soquili, more than her family would have expected with two pairs of wings, but this distant behavior made dealing with him a chore. Still, once he loosened up a bit, he was very quite amiable.

She thought back on his decline to be a part of the herd, feeling a slight ache that seemed odd to her. But then perhaps he didn't enjoy mountain life for the same reasons she did.
"What do you enjoy most about the forest?"

It was her attempt to keep conversation without it following an uncomfortable path. Especially one that would effect her.

When she spoke, he turned around to look at her, considering the question for a moment. "I'm not sure how to answer that, to be frank," he said, frowning, though it wasn't at her or in displeasure. He was frowning at his answer. "I have just always lived in the forest. Its dark and wonderful. There's so much room. Up here on the mountain top, you're limited to what space the plateau provides. Down there, space is unlimited. It feels more open, and like home."

He looked sheepish for a moment as he climbed out of the water. "I feel like I don't belong here, like I am out of place. I'm sure you would feel the same down on the ground."

She tightened her wings at her side, trying not to let her emotions flicker across. "Oh," was the only thing she said before looking away out of discomfort.

It simply wasn't something she understood. She didn't see what the world below had to offer when the protection of the herd was her entire world. It was perfect up here and there was no one to try and change her.

She gave her tail a slight flick, the braid becoming obscure with the rest of it.
"Well," she paused, thing of how to phrase it so he wouldn't take offense, "the offer of open borders still stands. And maybe, I could come visit you?" She looked at him then, a slight tilt to her head and a hopeful look that he wouldn't refuse her.

She glanced back to the way they had come out of nerves.
"We should be heading back soon."
