Haradhel laughed heartily, watching Kara and Donovan. They really were cute together, no matter how dark and unfriendly Donovan liked to make himself seem.
"Congratulations," she beamed at the two of them. "That's wonderful news! Early stages, I presume? You're not showing at all yet, though I do have to say your eyes are brighter than usual."
Elros nodded seriously. "There are many times when we are also too busy to do what we like," he murmured. "I understand. But the ranch is in good hands. Lord Elrohir and Lady Haradhel are wonderful overseers ... we have not needed Ulani or Ulrich's aid in many years now. Things could not be running more smoothly."
Aliya grimaced at Feng. "The scary part is that when Rose first came here, she was just as shy as he has always been," she told her flatly. "They've been good for each other ... though Rose will be leaving soon, I think, and I can't help but fear what will happen to Adonijah then. He's not yet an adult ... I can't let him go off on his own ... and I don't even know if things would work out ..."
She trailed off, then smiled. "Her brother, Roydon ... I'm not sure if you remember him, they were rescued by your father I believe on the first trip that Celebor went with him. He is now married to Arwen, and they were planning on staying here just long enough for Arwen to say goodbye to her Gaian friends and then they were planning on heading south, to Namonuito where Roydon has his own business to tend to."

"Yes," Kara nodded with a bit of a blush remembering where she was, "We found out not too long before coming here. Since I had been unwell during the morning and he worries too much and wanted to know what was going on," she pointed at Donovan.
Despite his claims he did tend to get worry, even if he wasn't one to show it... in a normal fashion.
Lin smiled, that was a wonderful thing to hear, especially since everyone close to her lived here too, and here was more dangerous than Gaia (though as she found out Gaia has its own shares of danger).
"I'm glad, I always wonder what's changed every time I come here, or what's happened."
And she knew in the past it hadn't always been good such as Adan's kidnapping to her what had been a month or two back.
"Oh... I remember him, Lin would talk about him," Feng murmured, "Something about sailing.... or that she wanted to go sailing... and she wanted to meet him in his hometown...." then again her sister wanted to do a lot of things, "Well... see how things turn out.. maybe she'll be back... maybe from here he'll improve, who knows?"
Of course if Aliya was worried about Adonijah travelling she could send Tao with him.

"You weren't.. and still don't feel well in the morning and was going through the ginger very quickly, yes there are reasons to wonder after a while," Donovan replied with a smirk.

Haradhel smiled warmly. "Don't worry, it will go away in a few weeks, I'm sure," she assured her. "I mean, I don't presume to know what an angel's pregnancy would be like, but if it's like ours, it shouldn't last more than a few more weeks or so."
She finished with the dinner and began to carry things into the dining room. "You just let me know if there's anything you need," she grinned. "anything at all."
Elros nodded. "Very little, of late," he murmured, "except for the marriage of Arwen and Roydon. Other than that nothing is different."
He smiled at his young friend. "And how about you?" he asked kindly. "How have you been?"
Aliya had thought to surprise Feng and Ryu with the news of Arwen's marriage, but it seemed as though they either hadn't heard that bit or had already known about it. Ah well, so much for that bit of fun.
"Actually," she said thoughtfully, "I'm wondering if she might ask to stay here when Roydon and Arwen leave ... I know she loves it here, she's more comfortable here than she's felt anywhere before, or so she tells me. Even in their home town with her brother ... she never felt comfortable there."

"Thank you," Kara murmured happily.
She had no clue what to expect neither, but she was sure everything would be alright. Which could end up being infamous last words.
Lin actually had to think about that for once, normally she didn't but with everything that had happened. Well... she had all her body parts in the right place, didn't actually get hurt (though had one too many close calls in that department), and she made new friends, "I'm alright, I've been doing a lot of learning and spent a month learning with a large body of people my age...."
"And..." Toshiro knew what Lin didn't want to say and raised a brow in question.
Lin rolled her eyes, "I admit going to 'school' has been the best and worse moment of my life and I think most people my age are weird, happy?" she gave Toshiro a look.
Naida dragged herself across the table to Aliya so she could be picked up. She looked up at the woman with large blue eyes and held out her arms, "Up please!"
Feng giggled, "Actually that would be wonderful, I don't know Rose at all, Miyu use to play with her but that was years ago here."

Suddenly the trapdoor in the floor opened up and a black head of hair appeared, followed by a tall, gangly body of a boy in his early teens. He looked up and spoke to Haradhel in quick elvish, but suddenly his ears twitched and he looked over to see Kara and Donovan sitting on the other side of the room.
"Oh, hi," he grinned, closing the trapdoor behind himself and dusting his hands on his pants. "Kara and Donovan, right? I remember you from Aunt Elnara's wedding. How are you doing?"
Elros chuckled softly at Lin. "I take it you are not fond of your peers?" he asked in a gentle tone. "Perhaps you should just give them some time to adjust ... you are after all an exceptional young woman ... perhaps they just need to get used to you."
He was amused, to say the least. It was rare that Lin didn't want to talk about something, and it only made him curious - though he would never ask.
Aliya giggled at Naida and poked her gently on the nose. "In a bit, I have to get dinner on the table first, all right? Once I'm free, I'm all yours."
She headed back to the counter to get more things for the table, glancing at Feng thoughtfully.
"I had forgotten that you were all here when Rose was," she murmured. "But you'll see her at dinner, unless they come in here a bit earlier." She smiled. "I wonder what Miyu would think if she saw her now."
Suddenly in the other room a third voice joined the first two - a male voice, soft and warm.
"And that would be Adanedhel," Aliya murmured softly.

Kara had to consider it for a while, she had a feeling she knew who this was, but it was hard to imagine... granted she had not see him since Elnara's wedding, "That's right, and we're doing fine thank you."
She studied him a bit, yes... she was sure...
"And you have grown a lot."
"Elros... more than half of my peers thought I was courting a boy because I spent a lot of time with him," Lin told him quite frankly, nevermind the fact the boy was one of the most popular boys in school without even knowing it.
Damn Kin and his dense nature, he made her look wise in the social ways of the world.
"And if that wasn't weird enough, I find out that there are a group of girls fighting over him, of course the poor guy doesn't know because he has the self essteem of a mouse, and if he knew he would become a hermit in the woods it would embarrass him that much. So they thought I was competition just because I treat him like a normal person!"
And that wasn't even the part where half the school though she was pregnant with quads by the guy, which was been even worse than the simply just courting part. This didn't even cover the Jonson boys, which Lin didn't even know where to begin to ask about.
Feng wiggled in her seat, she wanted to get up and hug Adanedhel, but if he was in a room with someone he really really liked, she should probably hold off. At least for a small while....
"I don't know.... Miyu played with Rose, but it was only one time, and with the way Seconds grow, she might not know how to act.. .I mean... Miyu use to play with Arwen, when Arwen was more closer to Miyu's age," Ryu pointed out.
Unfortunately Naida had no such quams about leaving Adanedhel alone, after all she liked spending time with him. Taking in a deep breath she yelled out, "Adanedhel!"

Arahad laughed. "Well, I would hope so, it's been seven years," he grinned. "I'm not a kid anymore. I help out on the ranch just as much as anyone else- mornings with Celeborn and Elros, training, and then the afternoons with Elberon in the stables ..."
Haradhel smiled and put one arm around her youngest son's shoulders.
"He works hard," she agreed, "and we're quite proud of him.
Elros looked thoughtful at Lin's words, and he nodded slowly.
"It sounds as if your world is perhaps not so different from our own," he murmured. "Not ... exactly, but there are similarities. What would happen in secret in our world is apparently quite public in yours. But tell me. Does the opinion of these people really matter to you? Do these people mean anything to you?"
He looked at Lin, his ancient eyes piercing, searching within her.
The conversation in the next room broke off suddenly, and a moment later Adanedhel appeared in the doorway, Rose and Adonijah both standing behind him.
"Feng and Ryu!" he laughed, his voice quite deep now. At twenty two years old, he had grown into quite a powerful man, his body thick with hard muscles. His eyes however were the same as ever, the same youthful animation flickering in them. "And Naida," he added with a soft chuckle. "Can't forget you, can I?"
Rose looked curious as she peered over Adanedhel's shoulder at the other guests, but though she looked thoughtful seeing them, she remained silent. Adonijah's white head could be seen just behind Rose, though it seemed he was trying to stay out of sight.

Kara resisted the urge to ruffle his hair, which was easy seeing as the boy was taller than her, no surprise there. She smiled widely up at Arahad, she wished she got to see Arahad more as a child, even she had seen Ahren and Arwen more when they were children.
"You would think I'd be use to it by now," she murmured, "But it's good to see you've grown up so well, but... it makes me wish I had visited more often. I didn't really get to see you grow up."
Lin sighed looking back up at Elros, he was giving her that look, the one that was wondering was going on in her. She never understood it, but knew it made her a bit uncomfortable, and also knew she couldn't hold anything back from that look.
"Only Raven, Quinton and Kin," Lin admitted, "It doesn't bother me... what everyone else thinks it's just... well..." she ran her hand through her hair, "I got into a fight because of it. I didn't mean to hurt anyone, I just got cornered one day, and when then punch was thrown at me I reacted before I could think."
It shamed her, because she knew, the best idea was to dodge, but the girl had been so close, and all she could think about was the fact her face nearly got bashed in.
"The most frustrating thing about it... is that it is the most pointless reason to threaten much less start a fight over. Kin would be horrified if he found out it was over him, well actually he would be traumatized and then never show up in school ever again.... In truth, I don't really care if people think I'm courting Kin, as long as Kin knows that's not true, but I draw the line of being threatened just because girls who do like him have issues with him having a girl for a friend."
This was Lin being practical, as usual, but as one cheerleader pointed out Lin seemed to be oblivious to boys, if her not battering an eyelash around shirtless guys were any indication. She simply did not have much in common with the other teenage girls.
Naida looked innocently up at Adan holding her arms out, "Up!" she paused, "Please................."
Her fishy tail flopped against the table happily, to her this man was a lot of fun, and she liked hanging around him.
"Hello again Adanedhel," Ryu chuckled, "I guess Naida couldn't wait, though Feng would have done the same." "I didn't though," Feng protested before waving at the trio.

Arahad smiled warmly and reached out, placing one hand comfortingly on Kara's shoulder.
"There isn't time in life to do everything we desire," he told her softly. "Even for immortals. Perhaps especially for us. But don't worry, there will be other generations, and the opportunity will present itself again."
For a moment he looked as though he was going to add something else, but it seemed that he thought the better of it and just smiled at her.
Elros nodded, his eyes softening slightly as he thought about what Lin had told him. He wanted to suggest she point out to those people the pointlessness of their actions, but he suspected that she might have already done so, and without success.
"There is only one thing, then," he murmured softly, "that I do not understand. Tell me ... why are you ashamed of protecting yourself? If you had not, then what would be the point of all of the training that you put yourself through? It was not only instinctive, but even after thought ... it would be logical, and quite acceptable."
Adanedhel chuckled and picked up Naida under her arms.
"Up you go!" he laughed, tossing her into the air and catching her again. Then he grinned at Ryu. "Well, like mother, like daughter, or so the saying goes. At least, that's what Elnara always said about Nako and Mother when she was here. And Feng-"
He chuckled again. "You know that you wouldn't normally think twice about doing something like that. I'm not sure what held you back, but you know it's true."

Kara blinked for a moment, considering Arahad's words. Though it was his words that caught her in surprise more than anything else. She smiled wide and put a hand on his.
"And you grew up in more ways than one I see... or rather I hear," she smiled.
"It's not protecting," Lin tried to explain, "It's how I protected myself, even though it was one hit, I knew even before it all happened that, that person was all muscle, but no real fight. You could tell from the way she acted that she had depended for so long on the fact she's bigger than the other girls, and no other reason."
She gave Elros a considering look, it was something she had thought seriously about. Lin had become over time painfully aware her choice in lifestyle was not normal outside of the family. Little girls did not spend their spare time training with their fists and their blades with the equal amount of importance of filling the mind.
"I could have dodged, her hand would have hit the metal locker behind me," Lin replied in the analytical way she had been taught, "With that force she would have bruised all her knuckles since she's not used to punching things other than people. In a way, I felt even though it was nothing but a counterattack that I used too much force. She doesn't even fight, she just bullies, restraining her would have been just as well."
Toshiro coughed after a moment he had always been curious about Lin's opinion, and thought she was too much like their mother in that aspect, "Lin, I don't think anyone would be thinking that when their face is about to be bashed in."
"I know, but you were talking to someone...." Feng protested though it was a weak protest really.
Normally it wouldn't stop her, but even she knew how rare it was to have a visitor that wasn't related or from the Ranch to come by and visit.
Naida giggled holding onto Adanedhel close, she peeked over his shoulder curiously, "Who's that?" she pointed to rose already knowing Adonijah, "Adonijah who's that?" she referred to the white haired boy behind Rose.
She thought Adonijah was cool... when he wasn't running from her mother and uncle.

Arahad chuckled softly. "Well ... living out here tends to do that to a person," he admitted sheepishly. "I mean ... growing up with Timaeus, sure we played around a bit ... but it was mostly training and such. Preparing to become an adult."
"It does tend to make an early adult out of the children," Haradhel agreed, "we just didn't see that happen with Arwen. She sort of ... surprised us, on that one."
Arahad laughed. "She sure did ... poor Roydon."
"Am I to be pitied?" Roydon't voice cut in from the doorway. He appeared with Arwen, both of them having washed up now, and he was chuckling at his brother in law's words.
Elros nodded. "I am afraid I must agree with Toshiro on this score," he murmured. "It was self defense. It is all well and good to analyze a fight after is has ended, but in the heat of the moment there is no time for thought, only for reaction. Look at it this way: perhaps now she has learned her lesson, and will stop bothering you."
He raised one eyebrow pointedly. "And perhaps it will be a lesson to others, as well," he added softly.
Adanedhel flushed slightly, but his skin was so dark from the sun that it was hard to see.
Adonijah shrank away from Naida's question, hiding behind Rose so that he would not have to be in the spotlight - and in the end, it was Rose herself who answered Naida's question.
"My name is Rose," she smiled at the little mermaid, her hands clasped shyly in front of herself. "My brother is Roydon, Arwen's husband ... I ... I'm not sure if you all remember me, but I was rescued by Donovan when I was a child ... my brother and I both were."

Kara laughed softly at the exchange of words, "Perhaps," she told Roydon mischievously.
Arwen, how could she forget how Arwen was, it kind of made her think that Saki was going to miss her when she was gone.
"Somehow everyone always manages to catch the tail end of a conversation when it's about them."
She would hope so, though the radicals Lin had gotten the impression weren't too bright, and that wasn't her annoyance talking neither. Lin thought about it, before nodding. It was the other reason why she liked it here... in the Borderlands because even outside her family at least she was somewhat normal.
"True, things did quiet down," for those that were wise enough, "I guess... I just didn't know what to make of it at the time. I've never had that happen before."
And she hoped it would never happen again.
"I remember," Feng smiled getting up from her seat, "Though Naida wouldn't, she wasn't born back then."
"I'm new! Well.. not that new, but I was new the first time I came here," Naida told Rose happily.

Roydon chuckled softly. "Then I insist on knowing what I am to be pitied for," he grinned at her. "And if the conversation was about me, then what was being said, so that I can measure the truth of it."
Arahad picked up a large roasting pan full of meat. "Pity you being stuck with my sister," he winked. "Then again, it was your own decision, so maybe we shouldn't feel sorry for you."
Roydon laughed heartily. "Indeed not!" he chuckled, slipping one arm around Arwen's shoulders and drawing her close. He dared not look at her, because he knew that at that moment she was probably making a face at her brother for his teasing.
And she was. Her eyes were narrow as she glared at Arahad, but there was an impish twinkle in them that showed that she wasn't as miffed as she appeared.
Elros smiled. "My dear Lin, if you plan on traveling in our world, then you must learn to expect baseless attacks. From people, from creatures, from ... well, anything you might encounter ... but I do have to admit that I am glad you first encountered something of the sort in your own world, from people who are relatively harmless, rather than something that truly wishes you dead."
Rose giggled at Naida and moved a bit closer to Adanedhel so that she could look a bit more closely at the mermaid.
"And how many times have you been here?" she asked curiously, her dark eyes bright with happiness. "Adanedhel says that it's rare that visitors come ..."
Still standing by the doorway, Adonijah stared at the floor and shuffled his feet anxiously.

Kara giggled at the way they interacted, she glimpsed out of the corner of her eye Saki sneaking in. The little cat had not changed at all since the last time, in fact unless one asked her age no one would have known she was older than any of the second generation on the Ranch.
Creeping up behind Roydon Saki crouched down for a pounce at his feet. She had been over joyed when Roydon came back, and loved to 'play' with him whenever she got the chance.
Well when he put it that way, he had a point, maybe putting with the radicals wasn't so bad after all. Not when she had to navigate her way around people where she was in a way a stranger, "I hadn't thought of it like that," she admitted, "But when you put it that way... I guess it wasn't so bad after all."
"Uhm..." she held up two fingers, "Twice! This is my second time here! But Mommy and Uncle Ryu have been here many times before. I think... because they were here when Adan was little!"
