Inuki's entry!
This is a true story. It didn't happen to a friend of a friend of mine but to ME.
It all happened at the beginning of the year. We were all expecting the end of winter since it was a rather calm warm winter, which was unusual for Montreal, considering we have seen much more colder winters in the past. (blame the global warming I guess)
The weather people were announcing a terrible snowstorm for the weekend. They kept telling us to brace ourselves for the whole week. None of us truly expected it to be that big but when I walked out of work, it was amazingly windy and cold.
I walked to work that day, just like any other days, so when it was time to go, I couldn't get in a car and leave (I don't drive anyway). Besides, with all the snow that was already in the streets, it would have been madness. So I lowered my head and walked until I reached my usual street that will take me to my home. Until then, I couldn't see in front of me for the wind was blowing into my face all the tiny sparkles of snow that was falling from the clouds. When I reached my street, I could finally lifted up my head and witnessed, for the first time, the strenght of the storm.
Anyone would have been mad to be stuck in that storm, whether by car of by foot. It was the biggest one we had in years! I couldn't see more than 2 feet in front of me. Tall buildings were hidden by a wall of flying snow. After a couple more minutes of walking, I stopped to actually feel the storm. The wind was twirling all around me and I was able to vaguely see, in a distance the fire station, the snowflakes dancing all around the building. I stood there, the wind in my back, my eyes watching the frenzy snow in the dim light of the streetlights. I was in the heart of the storm. And it was the most beautiful scene I've seen so far.
Once home, I was frozen. My cheeks and tights were red. I couldn't feel the front of my legs for the cold wind numbed them. And yet, I only regret the storm would pass too soon.
And finally, morning came. When I walked back to work, the streets were empty of cars. The snow was bright white and the sun was in a cloudless sky. The snow paralyzed one of the biggest city in Quebec. That day, only my snowy footsteps echoed in the streets.
That is winter for me. Fierce snowstorms that leave in the morning a shiny white coat behind. That is why it is my favorite season.
