Richard took the papers. "Do we get a room to brief in?" he inquired, looking about the facility. Military base, didn't seem to have anything special about it, other than the fact that he was holding some papers with some very strange things in them. He was already flipping through quickly, trying to figure out what precisely was so interesting in here. The answer was a lot. The others would be quite interested in this.

Connor shook his head slightly. "Unfortunately, I thought of that already. There are a multitude of strange occurrences every day, and the number hasn't increased lately. I have an idea in the works, but what else do you have? In case mine doesn't work." He looked at Kurtis questioningly.

Cyrill nodded. "This way. I'll escort you there. One of my men will sit in on your briefing, in case you have any questions." He was acting very formal with them.

Agent Gray stood across the street from a small office building, looking up at it. He glanced down at the paper in his hand, comparing the address there to the one scrawled on the faded building. Sighing, he stuffed the paper in his pocket.
He made his way into the building and up to the third floor. He knocked on the door, and when it opened, he said, "Esther Veel?"

"Well, theoretically, this object could be capable of just about anything," Kurtis pointed out. "It has shown an ability to fold or bend space and time, and it may be able to do things that we've thought physically impossible. It might be able to make a quarter-turn with instantaneous change in its velocity, really. So what's your idea on finding it?"

As Connor was about to speak, his PDA gave a soft beep. He smiled. "There it is now."
He pulled it out and looked down at it, nodding slightly in satisfaction. "Ahh. Perfect." He handed the PDA to Kurtis. It showed a world map with an absurd number of blips on it, centered in the US and northeastern Asia mostly.

Kurtis scrutinized the map. "Are these locations where the disturbances were felt most strongly or something else?"

Richard nodded. Cyrill seemed stiff. He wasn't happy the SAS were here. That was okay with Richard. He wasn't happy that the SAS was here, either. He'd rather be at home, having some fun with the boys. Oh well. Duty called.

He stepped into the room, found a comfortable seat, and began reading. He stopped, started again. His men stared at him wordlessly, a bit worriedly. Finally he mustered together his thoughts and put out the explanation. When he was finished, there was silence. Then Lt. Monson expressed the feelings of the room.

"Bugger," he stated simply, shoulders flopping slightly.

"Where are we starting this hunt?" Richard asked Cyrill's man.

"Like I said, we had no way of tracking the disturbances. Snapshots from the actual event can show that there are no more than 50, give or take. This is a map of nuclear weapons in the world." Connor smiled a little, waiting to see if Kurtis caught on.

The soldier glanced at his watch. "Half an hour," he said cheerfully. He was young and obviously was interested in the SAS.

"Places that would have a substantial reason to fund our search?" Kurtis asked. It seemed like an obvious and wrong answer to him, but it was worth trying.

"Half an hour isn't a location, man," Richard pointed out, cocking an eyebrow.

Esther sighed tiredly as she scanned over the photographs on her desk. She had started work earlier than usual today out of necessity if she was to get paid fully for her work. It seemed as though she had been doing this for hours. Someone knocked on her door, causing her to jump, and spill her coffee on the table. She muttered something under her breath, and decided to clean it up later.

Upon opening the door, she was greeted by a taller man with graying hair, "Uh, yes. That's me. Did you need something, sir?"

((I think this is right...))

Connor shook his head, still smiling. "A legitimate guess. Let me show you something." He took the PDA back and swiped his stylus across it lightly. Holding it out, he showed Kurtis that there were differences, but they were difficult to pinpoint.
"Now, here's the original." Another swipe, and Kurtis could see the difference: smaller, washed-out, almost unseeable blips.
"I got the idea from the government. All this clamoring about how these things could be dangerous, but no one has decided to scan for that. This map shows a nuclear scan that I initiated by chance about thirty minutes after the entry. It was a complete coincidence, but in comparing it with regular nuclear scans, I found the difference."
He retracted the PDA. "Unfortunately, there's no way to know if these objects were still in motion or if they were landed by then. We'll just have to go and check. Ready to go?"

The soldier jumped a bit. "Oh! My apologies, I thought you said 'when'. We'll be beginning in South America."

Gray smiled softly at her. "Yes, my dear. I've come to talk to you about your father...and a possible future for you."
((You did fine, Gem. 3nodding ))

"So the substance, we think, is radio... ac... tive..." Kurtis' voice trailed off. "How can we scan on such a huge scale? Whatever came through must be massively radioactive to even put out that much of a signal."

"Not necessarily," Connor said, beaming. "This is a special scan of my own invention. True, it scans radioactivity, but - well, I won't go into details. It scans for a special type of energy that is highly active in radioactive materials, and was apparently present in the movement or landing of this substance."
PostPosted: Tue Oct 14, 2008 6:22 pm

"Special type of... energy?" Kurtis asked, confused. He sighed and leaned back. "Far too much of my physics knowledge has just been made obsolete in the last five minutes. I need to work on updating now."

Connor shrugged slightly in apology. "Sorry. You'll get used to it around here. That's just what I do."
He went to the door. "I'll give you a few days to take care of whatever you have to do. Send me a message when you're ready."
