He was a crazy mystic who basically manipulated and gained control over the Russian royalty in the early 1900s. Some people think he had real supernatural powers, others think he was just extremely cunning! Once he got control of the royal family a lot of people tried to kill him, and he survived stabbings and poisonings, which added fuel to the rumors that he had some sort of power. They finally killed him by poisoning him, then shooting him three times, wrapping him in a sheet, and dumping him in a river, and the autopsy showed that he survived for more than a few minutes underwater. His arms were positioned like he had been trying to break through the ice, when the amount of poison alone was enough to instantly kill a man twice his size. SPOOKY.
ALSO when they cremated his body years later, it sat straight up in the fire. This has since been attributed to the muscles getting too dry because of improper embalming, but still, how creepy is that? I love Rasputin.
