MegaTherion777 Warrior of Metal MegaTherion777 Warrior of Metal As a dark elf mage with necromancing, all I need to do is roll above a 12 with four six sided dies and I can bring him back! DnDfag Better than wowfags, no offence to Hollow, but there's people at school who do NOTHING but talk about wow, they spend their lives on it, and they go on the forums on school computers at lunch. Now that's bad. Anyway, I got my roll, Victum's alive. but you're using weighted dice, and the punishment for cheating is... *looks it up* victum's death. *victum's barely revived body is engulfed in flames* THEY ARE NOT WEIGHTED!

Gravechylde My Hollow Metal Reign hates power vocals. It may take talent to do, but it just doesn't sound too good to me. But then again, what qualifies it as talent? It may be hard to reach that high, but what makes high notes so great? Nothing. It sounds REALLY feminine, and I'd rather have music pumping me up than telling me to go smell all the pretty flowers.

My Hollow Gravechylde My Hollow Metal Reign hates power vocals. It may take talent to do, but it just doesn't sound too good to me. But then again, what qualifies it as talent? It may be hard to reach that high, but what makes high notes so great? Nothing. It sounds REALLY feminine, and I'd rather have music pumping me up than telling me to go smell all the pretty flowers.

Power metal vocals are way better than anything else in metal, they can sound faminine but I dare any death metal singer to sing 'highlander' by lost horizon any day, at least PM vocals sound better than 'burghghwhaauauwiwiiiaaruruuuuurggh!!!!'. A close second place is for Trad/Epic doom vocals, though. You can go on and on saying they are not great but meh, I know they are, and that's enough.

My Hollow Bad vocals ruin a band. I don't know about anyone else, but I have a hard time tuning out awful vocals. Vocals just really don't bother me that much. Ozzy is not a good vocalist, but he's great within the context of Black Sabbath. Brian Lawrence may not be that good of a vocalist, but within the context of Dream Death. Tim Baker has an odd singing voice, but he's great in Cirith Ungol, I couldn't imagine it any other way. If it FITS, great! If not, bummer. I also don't mind power metal vocals that much either.

I think she was referring to style, not technical proficiency. What I am saying, is that FOR ME, it's harder to drown out aweful vocals than it is to drown out mediocre muscianship.

I am a power metal singer, and I do pretty good death metal growls too. It was WAY less hard to learn to do death metal growls if you ask me. I am not saying they are easy, I am saying they are less difficult than Power Metal singing.

I have always said vocals do not define a genre, but are a very important element in music. If you don't add folk instruments (I mean folkloric traditional instruments) to metal it will never be straight folk metal. If you take the accordions, flutes, violins and bagpipes out of Elvenking it would be plain power metal. If you remove all bagpipes, whistles, violins and acoustic guitars from Mago de Oz it would be plain hard rock, heavy metal. Singing is a very definitive element. If you remove the growls from death metal it won't be straight death metal.
