'I do not do business.' Marut with a chuckle. Well she didnt! That was reserved for the likes of him who cared to carry out his daily affairs in such a way. Favours and doing things because she, or the other wanted to was all she was used to. Give and take..between friends, and sometimes family.

She knew she could have asked her mother, it would have been the obvious choice. But, it would have been accompanied by overindulgent squealing at how Marut was finally becoming a proper mare or even, and she rolled her eyes at the thought, mate and children. In her mind asking Raniero was safer.

'Oh. But I knew you were a male, well almost as soon as I met you.' she grinned, and then fell into thinking again.

'But you don't mean that do you, you mean like what's between my mother and father, and what she kept saying I would eventually feel. Ohhh,' she looked at Raniero, tilting her head as she compared what he was saying to how she was feeling, and who'd bought it about.

'Hmm..' she was stumped for words now. She couldn't say anything more for the moment, if she denied it he'd probably call her out, or think she was saying he was unattractive. Which he wasn't. He was nice to look at, and the more she spoke with him, the more she liked him.
It wasn't as if she could ask him the same thing either, she wasn't sure which she would prefer, a yes or a no.

'Sooo, what will you do when the rain stops? I think I might see if I can find my mother.' she managed after a while of thinking of equally boring things to ask.

"Then let us hope that you never encounter anything or anyone capable of abusing your good nature and generosity," Raniero mused. The fact that she lacked a business mindset had it's advantages and disadvantages. For one thing she could be more hospitable towards others, could enjoy the company of others and wouldn't constantly wonder what the price of their own 'gifts' were. However, should she encounter a creature similar to him there was the danger of abuse - everything tended to have a price. Raniero could vouch for such an idea given the nature of his own upbringing. It was sometimes frightening to realise that you could hold a creature's life in your hands and douse the flame if you paid enough...

"But you are correct in your assumption that I was referring to the relationship that exists between your parents. It may not be identical to it, but it is along similar lines," he continued. Shifting his weight from one hoof to the other, he released a soft sigh. It was difficult for one such as he to explain the complex nature of every relationship in existence due to his lack of experience in some and the extensive number of variations that existed in such a topic.

Alas it appeared that his explanation had been adequate and she lulled into silence for a shrot while. It provided him with respite and the opportunity to watch the rain for a further few minutes. It was beginning to lighten, the droplets no longer battering the leaves as they once had. No doubt that in a short while they would stop completely and he could grant the mare her space to recover her composure. Goodness only knew she needed it given how comical some of her reactions were. Had she been human perhaps she would have blushed beetroot by now.

"After the rain ceases I will return to what I had been doing previously, I am taking a vacation after all..."

'Ohh,' Marut murmured, noticing as he had that the rain had ceased its heavy fall and was now turning gradually into a light shower. She would be able to leave the shelter soon, and maybe those silly feelings would be nothing more than feverish delusions from getting too cold. After all, she wasn't romantic right? Right! It wasn't as though she was attractive enough to encourage those sort of feelings in another either. Nope, it was just a glitch..her thoughts trailed off as she looked at Raniero again, the mental chatter grinding to a halt. Stop itttt!

'So you're not doing anything exciting then?'
An idle though popped into her head. Maybe letting her mother know wasn't such a bad idea. An outside opinion on the whole thing might be just what she needed. She hoped so much that she wasn't about to make a giant mistake, but hell, it might be a laugh.

'You wanna meet my mother? I'd like to introduce you to her if you don't mind.'

Hang on.

Wait. Stop. Backtrack.

She wanted him to meet her mother? He wasn't entirely certain as to how he had landed himself in this situation. Parental encounters of any sort were generally considered negative (for some) or led to further developments in a relationship. He was fairly certain that he hadn't given off that vibe and more to the point, he was almost positive that this particular mare didn't charge bull headed into a pool of steaming hot lava of a situation like this one either. This was one of those rare times in which he questioned his own hearing.

"...Pardon?" he enquired in a somewhat guarded manner as he flicked his amber gaze towards the mare. He was not about to tell anyone that she lacked in beauty, on the contrary she didn't. She was more muscular than most mares, more bedraggled but in her own way she had a rare and exotic beauty that few possessed. Combine that with her tomboyish personality and she was quite a creature. However, he simply didn't move that fast and her naivity was somewhat offputting in that regard anyway.

Yes he was aware he needed to produce and heir but he was not so uncouth as to seduce someone like her.

Oi...

"Why would you wish for me to meet your mother?" His tone remained somewhat faint as he rushed to catch up with the sudden change in events. He was male afterall and as logical as he might be, meeting parents of any sort was something he'd never done before (unless it was his own).

Marut looked puzzled at his reaction, his expression seemed to change after he heard the invitation, and was he talking quietly? Gawd, what had she said wrong now? Sure she had very slight ulterior motives, but she would expect anyone she was friends with to at least meet one member of her family, and her mother was the most - normal. Oh well, might as well put all four hooves into the mess.

'Well you're not doing anything as you said,' she said with a pointed grin.
'Besides, I want her to meet my friend.'

She really was naive, completely oblivious to the weight of her own words. He supposed he couldn't blame her, after all she had spent her life as a tomboy and remained unconcerned with the delicate nature of courtship. However he wasn't accustomed to such peculiar requests as of yet and that part of him that remained familiar with such protocol was all too aware of the consequences. Now - he could understand if he was female and she wanted him to meet her mother but if her mother should meet him... a male, then she may jump to the same conclusion that he had.

...And that would be bad.

If he had hands he would have placed his palm to his face, but for the time being he could do no more than release a soft sigh. It wasn't that he was intrigued by her, he certainly found her beautiful but he really wasn't certain he had an infinite amount of patience. Harmless as she may have considered her request to be, he was still male and despite his logic, there were just some things he couldn't control - especially when it came to the power of suggestion. That being said if he chose to refuse, wouldn't that technically be considered an insult to her?

Why the hell did he even care!

He didn't need friends, all they found was entertainment in his studies and got in his damn way. So technically speaking, if he insulted her and lost her as a friend then that wouldn't be a bad thing, right?

Right?

"I...see," he murmured at last, pursing his lips briefly before shaking his head. He had every intention of rejecting such a request, it would be better for them both. "Then I will meet with your mother..."

Wait, what?

Mentally he gave himself an almighty slap.

Marut wondered what Raniero was thinking, would he agree to meeting her mother? She hoped so, she really did want him to meet Neve, now that Marut was back in the area her mother had pointed out that she had met none of the many friends she'd been making. So when he replied positively she beamed happily at him.

'Great! Did you want to go once the rain has properly stopped, or should I come and fetch you on another day?'

She didn't want to give him chance to think of some excuse as to not visit, but neither did she want to seem like she was one of those clingy mares. It was a fine line to balance, and she had elephant feet.

There were many things that Raniero could have said at this moment in time, but for the sake of his own sanity he had simply chosen to shout at himself mentally. Chastising himself repeatedly for his idiocy, he was more than just a little ticked off at his own slip of the tongue. It was ridiculous to even think that he had accepted and as a result it should have come at no surprise that he was already formulating plans and excuses to get out of this rather awkward state of affairs. Somehow he doubted that his father would agree to take his place and he sincerely doubted that he would pull off the entire thing - his father had white hair after all.

Damnit.

"Perhaps it would be best if you were to find me another day," he replied after a few moments. Another day would be perfect, given that he could extend that 'another day' to 'never' provided that he avoided the mare and pretended he didn't exist anymore! It wasn't the most coherent or smooth of his plans but he could finalise the details later. It was confirmed, he would find a way to continually avoid such an encounter and in doing so...would never have to worry about the immediate consequences or misunderstandings that might come about from such a meeting.

"For the time being I suspect that it might be best if I returned home to reunite with my family, it has been quite some time," he murmured. It was a dismal excuse but it was good enough for him and with a slight not he pushed himself out into the drizzle and drifted away. THe gods knew he needed to figure out a plan very quickly!
