Opening her eyes at his command, Yuurei stared fearful at Maverick and listened to Conner trying to get him to go away. Would he fight this monster? She looked down at the forest floor and could only imagine his blood staining the ground and she let out a tearful cry and moved to nuzzle her face against his side.
"Please don't fight..." She said weakly to him though, for the first time, she raised her voice loudly to direct it at both males. "No blood has to be shed here for on reason. W-why do you have an interest in me anyway? I do not know you..." She tried to sound brave but her legs where shaking.

Conner frowned. "You know very well I'm not a pup." But he did growl at the name. "Watch it Maverick."
He heard Yuurei and his growl immediatly ceased. "We have no reason to argue here. I'll tell you again. Go home."
"There's a good girl." He grinned as Yuurei opened her eyes. "Well, you seem to be buddying with my little buddy Connie there. Don't want you making a silly mistake like that."
"No reason?" He grinned viciously at Conner. "How about I give you a reason then?" With a fierce howl, he sent a geyser of water from the ground below the two defensive wolves, hoping to seperate them.

"A... mistake? I don't understand..." How could that be a mistake that she was falling for Conner? She narrowed her eyes and could feel the tension thickening in the air. What did he mean he was going to give her a reason? Was he going to attack? She whimpered and took a small, frightened step back.
Move now you foolish girl! The older spirit's voice rang through her head just as his howl tore through the air. Reluctantly, she jumped back and out of the way of the geyser. She looked about her for the sign of her 'guardian' and called out to it for help but received no answer in return. She wavered on her paws but managed to stay standing though she was shaking. Was she going to die here with Conner? No... she would not let him.
"Don't touch him!" She cried helplessly, not caring about herself.

Conner felt Yuurei move away, and half a moment later the geyser shot up, tossing him up and away. Landing back on the ground with a pained yelp, he stumbled quickly to his feet. What had made the dark male so mad?
"Leave us Maverick! Your father will be dissappointed to hear about this!" He threatened. Hearing Yuurei, he started to bare his teeth at the other male. He would not let Yuurei get hurt.
Maverick frowned. How had the girl dodged the water? But, no matter. They were indeed seperated now. He chuckled at the girl's plea. "Such a darling little thing." He cooed to her, taking a step toward her.
His ears pointed forward and he spun to face Conner. "You stupid boy. That might have worked when we were kids, but do you think I care about my false father's feelings now?" He sprinted toward Conner, stopping just a few inches from him. "Guess what sweetheart! Touch." He called mockingly to Yuurei as he took a swipe at Conner's face, feeling a solid connection. Then he spun and ran for her, stopping just a foot from her. "Whatchya gonna do about it?" He cackled.

((Sorry for the delay, I was debating how she would react to all of this xD ))
Yuurei watched helplessly as Maverick disregarded her plea and struck Conner. She was not certain what to call this new feeling coursing through her was but it was feeding off of her terror and she found herself shaking not only from fear now. He was suddenly standing only a foot or so away from her now and at the sudden movement, her first instinct was to run and leave these woods for good and not look back at all but it was too late now. She met his gaze without wavering.
"You heartless monster." She said softly, shaking her head. "H-how dare you do all of this...." And without thinking or even wanting to do so, she raised her paw and swiped it at the male.

Conner was shoved aside by the hit. He hadn't expected the male to go physical. But now-
He shook his head clear, gasping at what he saw. Yuurei had hit him! On one level he was proud. On the other- "No!" He growled, launching himself at Maverick, who was sure to retaliate.
Maverick had to blink a couple times at the sudden pain in his nose. Had that female actually hit him?! He crouched down and snarled. "So it's a fight you want." Before he could reach to tackle Yuurei though, he felt Conner's sudden weight knock him off balance and he rolled away to the side.
He jumped up quickly, expecting Conner to be on his tail. But no- the sap was standing in front of the girl. "You got some spunk girl." He cooed through his teeth. "Why don't you tell Connie to get out of the way so we can finish this ourselves?"

As soon as her paw struck his nose, she instantly regretted it and before she could stop herself the words of apology tumbled out.
"I'm so sorry I didn't mean to-" Yuurei grew wide eyed as she realized what was to come with the snarl that drowned out the rest of her apology. He was going to attack her and she prepared herself for the consequences but the strike she had been expecting never came. She took Conner's surprise attack to move back and away from them both and whispered a 'thank you' to Conner for protecting her. At Maverick's request for a fight, she looked away fearfully from them both and shook her head.
"I will not ask Conner to leave nor will I leave him." She said angrily in her soft voice, finally looked back at Maverick and moving so she stood behind Conner yet close enough to him. "What could you possibly gain from fighting me anyway? Are you so much of a coward that you're reduced to being excited because you can fight a girl?"

Conner looked back making sure Yuurei was okay, then faced Maverick again. "Neither of us want to fight."
He flicked his ears, throwing Yuurei a look. What was her taunt going to do in Maverick's anger-warped mind? He was worried it might bring on another attack.
Maverick shook his head in irritation. "Being a girl doesn't make you an unworthy opponent. There is more to fighting than pure strength, smart-mouth." He took a step forward. "And I don't have to tell you why. You just afraid I'll beat ya? Bet you'd make a better opponent than Connie." He took another step forward and snapped his teeth at them. He was determined to not be taken by suprise again.

She ducked her head at Conner's look and whispered another apology. She shouldn't have let her anger get the best of her at the moment.
"I doubt I'm better than Conner but either way, I don't want to fight you..." She snapped at him, not wanting to admit that she was afraid he'd beat her. Fighting wasn't going to get them out of this right now anyway. If only there was a good place to hide....
"I-I think I know how we can get out of this but are you a fast runner? A safe place; it isn't that far away from here..." She said in a hushed voice but she didn't want to say exactly aloud that the waterfall she had spoken of earlier was the safe place.

Conner flipped his ears back. He hadn't meant to make Yuurei apologize... But that would have to wait.
"Okay. As soon as I say go, run as fast as you can. I'll be right behind you." He brushed at her with his tail in comfort before turning forward.
"This ends now Maverick." He crouched down. "Go Yuurei!!" He jumped forward and let off his ability Star Dust, the cloud of sparkles thick around the darker male.
Maverick perked his ears, trying to hear what they where muttering about. "Quit stalling! I'm fighting one of y-" He tilted his head at Conner, a snear splitting his lips. "You end right now." He growled. Wait- what?! His eyes widened as he was suddenly surrounded by sparkles. "Connie! You yellow-belly!" He ran in circles, biting to get through the cloud, but it went everywhere with him.

The moment she heard his command for her to go, Yuurei turned and tore through the forest and away from the path as fast as her legs could carry her and hoped that she didn't run into any trees in her haste. Pulling herself over a large boulder, she jumped down from atop it and slid down a small hill and stumbled away from it, panting heavily. She glanced back to where she hoped she would find Conner and began to call out softly to him.
"Conner?" She whispered, continuing to look around. "Please... I hope nothing happened to him..."

Once Yuurei was past, Conner hesitated a moment. He really wanted to teach Maverick a lesson... but he had told Yuurei he'd be there. So he spun and ran, leaving Maverick howling in the dusty cloud.
He chased after her scent, wondering how far she would go before stopping. Rounding a boulder, the ground vanished from below his feet and he tumbled down the hill, nearly rolling into Yuurei and whining as dirt was scrubbed into the scratches on his face.

Yuurei yelped and moved out of the way as a wolf tumbled down the hill right at her. At first, she thought it was Maverick and began to panic but when she squinted her eyes, she could make out the ribbons Conner had that she liked. Hearing his whining, she moved to his side and began to rub her nose against the side of his face.
"Are you alright? Did you break anything? Oh I'm so sorry. I should have picked an easier way to get out here than this." She continued her examination of him, all the while whispering that she was sorry to him.

Conner had his eyes wide open. The scratches hurt a lot, but Yuurei nosing at him sent such a warm feeling through his body. And she was okay. He had actually saved her!
Jumping up he started talking quickly as he licked her muzzle happily. "I'm so glad you're okay. You have nothing to apologize for. You were great back there standing up to him! Bravest girl I've ever seen!" Realizing what he was doing, he took a step back and blushed brightly. "I beg your pardon."
Then he looked back up the hill. "Maybe we should keep going." He said, a slightly boyish awkwardness now in his voice.

Yuurei paused when she felt him lick her muzzle and she felt her heartbeat quickening in her chest and knew she had a completely dumbfounded look on her face and so she turned quickly away from him to hide her face. Sure they had nuzzled not so long ago but that was.... interesting and she was sure she wanted to try it as well.
"I....uh...that..." She turned back to him and leaned towards him to return the lick, nuzzling her head against him preparing to lick him but froze when she realized she would more than likely mess it up and lick his eye and not his muzzle and so she turned quickly away again, closed her eyes and listened to his words. Was she really as brave as he named her? She didn't know but no one had ever called her that... many times she had been deemed a coward but never brave. She chanced a look back at him and managed a slight smile before glancing up at the hill as he had done and nodding.
"Yes, you're probably right." She replied faintly. "We'll be safe at the waterfall for a little bit... I uh... don't want to keep you from returning home. When must you be back at the house anyway?"
