A strange figure made his way across the rooftops. He stood like a man, holding a couple of small, shiny items with his opposable thumbs. Yet, every other aspect of his body belonged to a Siberian tiger. The tail, the claws, the fangs, the fur... it was all there. Bloodbeast, using the DNA of his best bro Nikolai, had turned himself into a menacing beast. But, behind those feline eyes lurked a calculating mind and a strong determination. He kept checking over his shoulder, imagining some unknown threat behind him.

Hmm... I might've lost him, but I don't want to take chances. This city's crawling with supers, he thought to himself. I should probably use this to even the score... just in case. He turned around sharply, tearing up a few roofing tiles in the process. In a great hurry, he began fumbling around with a small, fluid-filled vial. Finally getting a grip on it, he pushed it into a contraption on his arm and slowly depressed the needle.

Phantasm continued to glide over the building tops, looking for... whatever that was before. Since he was flying, he couldn't use the night vision of a cat, so he was pretty blind right now. Cursing, Phantasm tried to scan the rooftops for the creature. No dice. But then he saw it again, leaping over a rooftop. What is that? Phantasm wondered this as he paused in the air, waiting to see what it would do next. The creature suddenly turned though, and came back to the direction from which it was heading. Phantasm swooped downwards to intercept it.

Someone came soaring in behind him. The figure didn't have any wings, so he wasn't making any noise at all. Had Bloodbeast not been looking over his shoulder from time to time, he wouldn't have seen him at all.

"So, a super, huh? Looks like I needed this emergency dose after all."

He kept depressing the plunger until all the fluid entered his veins. He pocketed the empty vial--no sense in wasting lab equipment--and pumped his fist a few times to get the blood flowing. Seconds later, the change began. This one wasn't painful at all, since there weren't going to be any skeletal or epidermal changes. No, he had doped himself up with a different kind of solution. He felt the rush of adrenaline take over his system as his muscles began to slowly expand. His legs thickened to the size of tree trunks; his biceps bulged out until they looked like watermelons; his chest heaved up and forward until they nearly obstructed his view. The power, though, couldn't hold a candle to the energy coursing through him. Yet as he nearly doubled in size, he knew he could not afford to savor the moment. He stepped forward with his left footpaw, bringing his claws up in front of his face. "I don't want to hurt you. Stop following me," he said coldly, his voice now more of a growl than like human speech.

Phantasm stopped in mid-air the moment the guy turned into a huge... hulk or whatever he was. Phantasm considered his options: he could mimic the proportional strength of a rhino beetle. But the wolf-man in front of him could probably lift two Abrams tanks at the same time and throw them like they were toy cars. Yet, Phantasm needed to stop him from doing anything he wasn't supposed to do. Maybe just talking to they guy would make an easier outcome.

"And just how could you hurt me?" he asked, his big fat ego getting in the way.

The tiger-man sighed. It looked like this kid is going to be difficult. "It is a reasonable assumption under the circumstances. However, you're correct; I cannot be positive of this outcome. You may have some defensive mechanisms of which I am not aware. Because of the circumstances, I cannot base the result on an assumption of ceteris paribus. Nevertheless, this is all a hypothetical--if feasible--situation, dependent upon the resolution of..." he paused for a moment, stared blankly, and twitched his ears. It was difficult to tell beneath the fur, but it wasn't unreasonable to say he was blushing. "Err... what I mean is, I'd rather you not attempt to find out."

"How about you just let me return what you stole and I'll call it a deal," Phantasm outstretched his hand, but since he wasn't close, he felt safe to do so. Although, from the way that the... were-tiger thing was talking beforehand, it had extreme intelligence. The only other person that Phantasm knew that used that sort of vocabulary was his English teacher. Plus, the were-tiger analyzed the situation faster than Phantasm did; and Phantasm wasn't your smarter-than-the-average-bear kid. Now the black-clad superhero was beginning to feel nervous.

"This again? All right, let me ask you this. If you were in my place, what would you do? I cannot traverse the streets like any normal human, lest I cause a panic. Police would get involved, and I would end up in a rather unfortunate situation. There's very little that I can do to disguise myself--full-length trench coats with tails and claws sticking out tend to attract more attention than normal. The sewers are right out: they're unsanitary, unsafe, and undignified. So, what other course do I have? I must jump from rooftop to rooftop if I want to get anywhere in the city. But, then I run into the issue of the errant superhero who decides I'm some suspicious character, absolving themselves of any resemblance of proof. I'm surprised you haven't attacked me yet; diplomacy never crossed the minds of many of the superheroes I've met. Now, I have very important research to conduct on the other side of town. I'd rather not be kept from it." His natural inclination was to cross his arms... which, in this form, wasn't particularly successful, so he put his hands on his hips and tried his best to look intimidating.

"So you stole something to fund research?" asked Phantasm. Possbily for his horrific condition? This was becoming more puzzling as time went on, yet becoming much clearer. Phantasm had to find an ultimatum to work with. "What if I help you with whatever research you're doing?" he asked.

This kid had a lot of nerve. He was right, Bloodbeast had stolen something to further his research. Still, the kid seemed to ignore his diversion entirely and stay true to that judgmental nature that all superheroes seemed to have. He was almost certain he'd have to fight the kid. But, then the kid spoke up about the research. "I'm not sure how much you can do. I doubt you have a degree in biotechnology, and even so, it would take you a while to catch up on my notes." He was about to turn the kid down entirely, but a thought crossed my mind. "However... I have been wondering about the administration methods of these serums. Up until now, I've only been injecting them intravenously. I've always been curious about how effective they'd be if they were ingested." He held up his wrist-device, which still had seven of the doses left. Two of them were avian species, and two others were varieties of marine life--he wasn't sure how long they'd survive on land, but he believed the dose would wear off before anythig bad happened. Of the remaining three, one was an adrenaline shot similar to the one currently in his system; another was a very powerful sedative meant to simulate the appearance of death; and he couldn't recall the last one. He thought it was lapine, but he couldn't be sure. As he held the device up to the kid, he flicked his wrist, causing the vials to spin around on a track encircling his forearm. "Care to take a spin?"

"Uh... sure?" asked Phantasm. He was thinking more along the lines of since he could mimic properties of animals, they could study him for a possible cure. Or... whatever the tiger guy said could work too.

"Well, take one," he said, moving the armlet closer to him.

Phantasm took one of the small vials from the tiger guy's wrist thing. "What am I supposed to do with this?" he asked.

"Well, if I had a syringe, I'd administer it intravenously. So, you'll have to swallow it."
PostPosted: Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:49 pm

"Right. So..." Phantasm raised it to his lips, but froze. He felt like a total idiot. This could be freaking poison! Looking back at the tiger man, he asked, "Wait a minute, how am I supposed to know if this is going to kill me or not?"

"Thus far, all intravenous dosages have been tested without any major problem. Ingesting it should be a safer means than injecting it straight into your blood, in theory."
