I have made several things for my neighbors now. They bring me the scrap wood from the building site down the street and I make decorations for the yard from them. It is cheep for us and the wood gets used. And yes, the wood is from the trash ben not the wood the builders are using. I am surprised to find how many people think we are sneaking up at night and taking the builders wood. (slaps and shakes forehead) heart Annie

i learned about colleges with multiple environmental-related majors. it turns out that one of my top choices only has it as a minor, so it got moved down to the bottom of my list. colleges that i were absently considering were either wiped off entirely or made it to the top.
my top colleges now are colgate university, university of the south, and whitman college.

I learned that while math is going to be somewhat useless to me when I'm an adult, if I retake my math tests I do better on them and I've raised my math grade from a C to a B because I retook my math test that I bombed.
I also learned about planning out a trip or somethin' like that in my drivers ed class today *nods*....

Today I looked up information on a type of local butterfly, and learned about the Birdwing Vine, which is a plant necessary for the caterpillars of the Richmond Birdwing butterfly to reach maturity. The Richmond Birdwing butterfly has been threatened by an imported plant called the Dutchman's Pipe, which tricks the female butterflies into thinking it's a Birdwing Vine, so the butterflies lay their eggs on it, but the leaves are toxic to the caterpillars. My mother and I are going to be on the look-out for Birdwing Vines that we can plant to help our native butterflies flourish.
I also made date scones with a new (to me) kind of gluten-free flour I'm trying out.

Today (well, okay, not today, but this week) I learned that red pepper is a natural alternative to pesticide. That's because it's so spicy that the bugs can't/won't eat it. Honestly, I can't blame them...

Today I have been learning (more) about the impact of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the relationship between archaeologists and indigenous communities, and community based archaeology and anthropology. Pretty spiffy stuff if you ask me, and just the direction that the field should be going in.

This is funny, so I thought I'd share:
Today I learned that Honda has paid to "cut a pattern of grooves into a stretch of road so people in passing cars would hear the theme from 'The Lone Ranger'" in Lancaster, California for use in an ad campaign. This was on the front page of Friday's (Oct. 24, 200 cool Wall Street Journal. While some people in the town think it's great, one resident is quoted saying, "Why don't I see how you like it."
