The dragon gasped and let out a surprised chirp as she was suddenly picked up but she smiled and leaned into Ruque very glad she had found it but now she was so very tired. She gave a large yawn and burbled up her gryphon friend.
Her bright eyes were heavy and she fell sleep almost seeming like she passed out.

The griffin's eyes grew wide with fear as his companion passed out, and he crawled down to the elven boy's shoulder and nipped gently at her, clicking at her and trying to get a response.
Nothing ...
"It's okay," Ruque told the griffin softly, smiling and petting his head to try to calm him. "It's this plant, I need it to make a sleeping draught ... that's what it does, it makes people fall asleep."
He looked down at the dragon in his arms. "I have to go back ... but I can't leave her like this, not when it was my fault." He looked up at the griffin. "What should I do?"
The griffin chirped softly and preened the boy's hair with his beak, then nodded towards the horizon. Take us with you, he was saying. He would make sure that no harm came to either the boy or the dragon.

The dragon's breathing was slow and even and she did not even move. At the nipping or her friends voice.
Niyana was walking towards the swamp and she could just see the bright hair of her son and something moving on him. She called out to see if he was alright. She could not see what was moving over him but it caused her to start to jog.

The griffin caught the movement out of the corner of his eye, and he took to the air once more, ready to defend the boy and the dragon.
Ruque spotted his mother approaching, and he raised his free hand and waved to her.
"Hey!" he called up to the griffin. "It's okay! It's just Mama, she's not dangerous!"
He smiled brightly, feeling much better than he had earlier.

When Niyana saw something jump up and fly from her son. She slipped her hand over her knife at her hip. She was ready to defend her son. "Ruque what are you doing...what is that?" she asked keeping her tone calm. She could see something bright also in her son's hand. "Are you alright?"

Ruque giggled and ran towards Niyana, smiling brightly and clutching the herb in one hand, holding the dragon girl tightly in his arms.
"I'm okay, Mama!" he called ahead to her. "These are my friends, they helped me find my way when I got lost in there! But the little dragon found the herb and she fell asleep ..."
He blushed as he reached his mother, and stopped in front of her. "Can they come home with us?" he asked her eagerly.
The little griffin flew alongside the boy, and when he stopped he perched on his shoulder once more. He blinked his large, birdish eyes at the woman, his gaze curious and wary all at once.

Niyana watched her son running towards her. He finally looked happy and less dependent on her and Celebor. She felt her heart both sore and ache at the same time. He was growing up and it was finally time for him to have friends that were not his parents.
She looked at the small girl in her son's arms how she seemed to curl against him her tail curved around Ruque's arm as if trying to protect it. Then she look up to the boy gryphon who landed on her son's shoulders as if that was where he belonged. She looked into his wild eyes and bit her lip.
Ruque needed friends...but these two almost seemed more like pets than friends. "Are you sure they are alone in the woods....no family?" She asked softly reaching out slowly towards the gryphon, in a non threatening and calm way.. She needed to know how wild he really was.

Ruque grinned at Niyana and nodded.
"They were all by themselves, but I was lost and then they helped me find my way out," he explained. "There wasn't anyone else, hardly even any animals!"
The griffin reached his head out towards Niyana's hand, then pulled back, then poked his head out again. His beak opened slightly and he gently nibbled her fingernail ... and then his face lit up in a smile and he chirped happily, making himself comfortable on Ruque's shoulder once more.
He was certain that this ... 'mama' was all right, and that she was no threat to the boy. As such, logic dictated that he would let her interact with the boy.

Niyana watched the way the small surprised acted. She nods and looked at the two youngesters, "Well little gryphon....can you speak english...or at least understand it?" She asked calmly allowing him to focus back on his son.
She nods, "Well if you two have no where else to go, I am sure we can find a nice place for you two to stay at our home. If you wish to stay with us dearest." She ruffled Ruque's hair, "Come on then you three...we will look for thier vases after we take care of your aunt."

The griffin smiled at Niyana and nodded, clicking his beak to show that he could understand what she was saying. When she gave her permission for the two guardians to stay with the boy, his chest puffed up proudly and he sat straight almost as if he were standing at attention.
Then he grinned and reached down with his beak, preening gently through the sleeping dragon's hair.
Ruque beamed brightly at his mother, giggling as she ruffled his hair. He didn't mind it when she did that - it told him how much she loved him, and what was wrong with that? Nothing.
"Okay!" he agreed cheerfully. "Maybe the little dragon will have woken up by then, too! Maybe ..."
His brow furrowed worriedly, and he looked up at Niyana anxiously. "It's not going to hurt her, is it?" he asked. "Because she's not like other Seconds ..."
And indeed, if it weren't for the almost human way she walked, he would not have known she was a Second at all.

Niyana nods watching the Gryphon. "Well then my strong protector I do hope that you and your friend will take care of my son. I trust you with him." She smiled and looked to her son as he spoke then she turned to look at the dragon, "Well...I don't think she had enough to kill her..." she held out her hand for the little dragon.
She smiled, and nods, "Well judging by her weight and body style...your little friend is already awake...About when your small shoulder friend preened her."

Ruque passed the little dragon over to his mother, eager to make sure she was all right, and when Niyana told him that the two little guardians could stay with him he was giddy with happiness.
"Thank you Mama!" he cried, and even though she was holding the little dragon girl he ran forward and hugged her around the leg as tightly as his little arms would let him.
The griffin puffed up his chest proudly at Niyana's compliment, but as the dragon was passed to her he flew from Ruque's shoulder to Niyana's to make sure that his little companion would be all right. When Niyana said that she was already awake, he flapped his wings excitedly, his golden eyes glowing brightly, and he flew to hover next to his companion, reaching out with one hand to stroke her hair and try to get her to look at him.

Niyana laughed softly as her son hugged her she reached a hand down to pat his head softly and smiled. "Your very welcome...After we take care of your aunt we will get their vases and take them home...."
She watched at the gryphon seemed very concerned about the dragon. She knew that was how it was when you were to last two of your kind or when you were left with no one but each other. She smiled.
When the hand of her companion touched her cheek, the little dragon turned her head to lick at his palm before opening a bright red eye to look into his molten gold eyes. She gave a slightly sleep chirp and shifting to lay her chin in his hand and to lick his wrist she opened the other as well.
She gave a soft burbled before moving to crouch in Niyana's arm.

Ruque giggled and nodded brightly.
"But first we have to make sure that Aunt Idhril is okay!" he beamed. "Have to stitch her up - did you start without me?"
He wanted to make sure he got everything he could out of the experience, he needed to learn how to do everything himself!
The griffin let out a happy squawk as the dragon burbled at him, nuzzling her forehead with his own before taking off once more to circle around the small group.
His companion, he knew, was still too sleepy to help guard at the moment ... so he would do the protecting as they traveled to wherever it was they were going.

The small dragon almost fell out of Niyana's hands but the human had caught her and set her on the ground.
She would not let her partner be the only one guarding. She was mostly awake now and she was going to help protect their 'family'. She walked slowly along the ground. She was not awake enough yet to fly so she would just have to walk along the high grass.
Niyana nods, "Yes we have to take care of her. And now I did not start without you...I know you really want to learn." she laughed and started to walk. "She is doing better already though...Just wondering you haven't see any of your siblings around have you?"
