I have nooo idea.

A whole week of camping may make me go crazy.

xd Me, too.

I know this is really far in advance, but would anybody be able to give a definite yay or nay in about 2 weeks? My dad has to choose his work schedule then (he's a doctor) and doesn't get many days off for vacation...

I can't, only because I have Italy and Israel to worry about.. I'll see what I can do though.

Italy is amazing (especially if you've taken a European History or Art History course). Though still waiting to go to Israel. sad

So my dad got his vacation schedule, and he got a week off in mid or late June (I don't remember which), and mid or late July (again). Anybody free then?

I can give a definite 'nay' to my own presence. My friend 'AS' brought up a consideration I hadn't even realized would be an issue: muktzeh.

See, everything that is growing is muktzeh -- trees, grass, flowers. It's muktzeh meaning something that shouldn't be touched during the hours of Shabbat. Why? Because one may come to (accidentally) pluck it from its growing source, knock it over, cut it from its root/branch... It would be considered 'plucking' or, in other words, farming. That is, work, of the sort forbidden on Shabbat.

I really don't want to be out in the middle of nature and unable to touch it or interact with it in any meaningful way. I also highly discourage anyone else to do so, when the stated objective of the gathering is to observe Shabbat together in a fun and unusual setting.

Umm... I'm not Orthodox, so if everybody coming isn't either, I don't mind. If not, theoretically I'm visiting a friend in NY since I've only been to the coast once, so we could just go visit somewhere nice on the coast? Or go camping not during Shabbat?

Missouri has a nice...science center? art museum? free zoo? blaugh

Yeah but I kinda wanted Divash to be there, I thought it was important to hear from the voice of the ultra-orthodox while we shoot around our own interpretations of Shabbat, Talmud, Torah readings and what not.

oh and Boston has science center, art museum an aquarium, an ocean...
and that place in the north end that sells fresh italian bakery at all hours of the day and night... 3 am Canolis for the win!

Plus Divash is pretty awesome! blaugh
What works for you, Divash?

Hmm... Well, we could do Chicago again since it's close and nobody else actually came besides us so it's not like it'd be repetitive? And she lives in the same neighborhood as where my dad went to Hebrew school, which is fun.

*sniff* Well, Missouri has... the arch! Take that!

Well Niagara falls is still a possiblity.

Any city with a large Jewish population is a good choice.

Brookline MA perfect example.

3 major Synagogues within walking distance from hotels which are rigged for Jewish Travelers. Ya know the ones with the elevators that stop on every floor and a special entry where you don't set off any electronic devices.

And I know my way around there.

True, but what is there in Niagara Falls besides the obvious and camping?

As for Brookline, no idea where that is- I've only been to Boston- but that sounds pretty awesome!

My stomping grounds are Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, Watertown and to a lesser extent Lexington and Concord.

However I try to stay out of Quincy, nothing but She-Devil Succubi live there.

Nice.

I've never been to Canada before, so it would be cool to be outside the country. So... anybody else want to add their say into this so it doesn't end up with like 2 people or nobody at all? blaugh

Ok, everyone who wants to get Gaians to your back yard for a visit. Start pitching ideas.

Boston... Public Transportation from Airport to Anywhere.

Two large Jewish communities, one in Brookline one in Newton.

I know my way around and you can come any time of the year, and I can show you any denomination of Jewish temple you wish to go to, from Chabad Houses, to a temple community made up of predominantly gay members... no really.

Anything you want to do we can...

Glat Kosher Chinese Food anyone?

or better yet, THAI?!
