You have to buy the first volume of the second season on DVD I think its like the second or third episode in.

There is nothing wrong with being a lesbian. domokun I will full heartedly admit I AM a lesbian and I think the Major is hot! ^_^ she is soo my fave character from gits

there's nothing female about her, except for her shell...you guys realize that you are developing a homosexual interest?

What a complete let down that would be for both guys and girls if she were actually a male in a female shell. Batao even asked her in the series why doesn't she just get refitted with a man shell, that way she would be more stronger. She then asked Batao to attack her and he couldn't, proving the point that maybe an enemy would be less quick to assualt a female (whch in reality I don't think would be case.) So what if the Major was really a man who used the female shell to his advantages? Who really knows? These are all just theories any way. However it was very clever for the writters to make the Major a female. It breaks sterotypes and deviates from the norm.

...what are you talking about, 'writers' making the major female? There were no writers...the only writers now are in PIG for the animated series.
Masamune Shirow (or Shirow Masamune...however) wrote all the manga, which the movie and the animated series were based off of. Shirow is a reculse. That means he doesn't want other people helping him write things and telling him how the story should be. MANGA IS NOT A SITCOM TV SHOW and there is often only one artist.
anyway...I don't know what sterotypes you're talking about, but the whole point of GitS was to be out there, probably jamming in as much politics as possible razz

Sorry I guesse I wasn't being specific before. When I said "wirters" I ment Masamune Shirow I just didn't know his name. The sterotype I was talking about was how sometimes the female character in an anime is really ditzy and annoying and can't last in a fight. I really like the Major's character because she is a female who can hold her own in a fight and is really smart. I wasn't being sexist before when I was talking about that scene in GITS:SAC. There is an episode when the Major needs to go in to get refitted for a new shell. Batao has a conversation with her about why she always picks the same shell everytime. He tells her that she would be stronger if she was fitted with a male shell. I think at this point we as the viewers are supposed to assume that mega-tech, in an effort to make their their shells seem as realistic and human as possible, design the male shells to have more physical strength then the female shells. This is not sexism this is based on human bio-chemistry. Biologically males are stronger then females because they produce more testosterone (this is why it is easier for a guy to go to the gym and get "buff" aka gain larger muscles with more definition then it is for a women to do the same. But now I'm getting off track) The major then asks Batao to give her his best shot. At first Batao seems willing and even draws his fist back but then the major gives him this look. I don't really know how to explain it, it is kind of like a cute smile, but anyway you the viewer are watching all of this and think Batao is going to punch the Major and then he winds up punching himself (He probably would have wound up not punching the Major either way b/c as you saif they are friends and she is his supperior. Anyway the whole thing was like the Major telling Batao that she keeps the female shell because she can use the physicall apperance of being a woman to her advantage in a fight. This is probably not the real reason why the Major has kept the female shell all these years. The reason is probably more deep than that. Sorry this post was so long and I thank you if you read the whole thing. I just wanted to clear up any misunderstandings.

I am under the understanding that the major is in fact Female and always has been. she was born a little girl and so she keeps a female shell because she is female. Yeah she is guyish but then as someone said she is believed to be a lesbian and undenyiably has lesbian characteristics so why should she be anything but what she is? I think the reason she doesn't want a male shell is the same reason most lesbian do not get sex changes they are happy being women they just happen to act sorta like guys and like other women nothing wrong in that.
