Rusty shuddered, thin hands gripping equally thin biceps.

"I tried." He looked at the angel, tears in his eyes. "I tried. Tho hard. I tried to be good, to not thin, to be a good thon. I did everything they told me to, to make the wickedneth go away. I'm tho thorry. I let God down."

This was a confused little man.

The angel nodded. He was getting a much better picture of this man, and why God had chosen him as his daily bout of mercy-giving. This was one ******** little man.

"The name's Vic," the angel said, "and I'm not here t'take you away or turn you into a pillar of salt or anything like that. I'm the angel'a mercy here on Gaia. God sent me here to tell you He loves you, and to set things straight."

Oh, Vic. The poor boy just looked so confused.

"But.. I'm dead." He looked down at himself, for once sounding something other than sweet. "I thtarved mythelf, didn't thleep, overworked mythelf, I couldn't take it."

"No you're not," Vic said casually. He'd gotten that more than a few times.

'You're just in bed. Your friend there's been taking care of you. He's the one who got me sent here." He pointed to the sleeping Shiloh.

"Now, there's some things we have to straighten out. Are you willing to listen?"

At the pointing, Rusty looked over. Oh, Shiloh... He'd been so horrible to worry you like that.

Looking miserable, hugging himself, Rusty nodded.

"Alright," Vic began, "First off, there's that aunt of yours. I know you're not going to want to hear it, but she was wicked. At first she tried to help, but soon you were just a punching bag for her. She didn't love you or care for you at all, she only used you. Granted, were it not for her evil, you wouldn't be who you are today. Regardless, she was knowingly wicked, and she keeps house with the devil now. Then there's all of this nonsense about punishment. If God wanted you punished for something you'd done, he'd do it himself. He doesn't want you not eating or harming yourself for doing things that people do every day. Oh, and homosexuality? It's not a sin in God's eyes. The Bible was written by man, remember. God had nothing to do with it. Jesus neither." He paused a bit, knowing it was going to take more to get through to this boy.

"Let me use myself as an example. I over-eat, I'm lazy some days, and just yesterday I was with a cursed human man, romantically...and here I am, wings an' fruity halo and all. God loves me still, and hasn't punished me a bit for these so-called 'sins'."

Oh, Vic. You hadn't started that ramble out good. After telling him that his auntie had taken an even longer trip down the stairs than previously thought, Rusty clapped his hands over his ears and just cried.

"I'm thorry, I'm thorry-!"

Because, somehow, that was his fault too. If he hadn't been left with her, if his parents had taken care of him, if he'd never been born-

"Shh-shh-shh," Vic cooed to the man, patting his shoulders and tearing his hands away from his ears.

"You listen to me. I'm just a messenger here. What you hear from me is from God, and none of this is your fault. None of it. Now, you said you'd listen, and I expect you to listen to all of it."

Rusty actually tried to fight, apparently forgetting, hey, Angel was three times his size. Rusty shook his head back and forth, and Vic was about to hear something very unusual: The truth.

"I hate her!" Rusty screamed, thrashing, trying to get away. "I pushed her, and I was glad she died, because she couldn't hurt me anymore, but she dill does, because I can't stop!"

Vic smiled. That was definitely a good start.

"It's fine to hate a person that's hurting you. Everyone hurts someone. It's not a sin, it's human nature, and she's paying for hurting you like she did."

One step at a time. Just one step at a time...

Rusty started to cry again, leaning back against the pillow.

"I wanted to be dead." He said, tears slipping down his face. "I didn't want to hurt anymore. I don't know anything else but this. It hurts. I'm so tired." Tired of everything, not just exhausted.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 13, 2008 1:57 pm

"There is no 'this'," Vic said, still smiling, "Not any more. You can do whatever you like. I feel safe saying that, because I know you wouldn't hurt someone on purpose. Rusty, you eat when you're hungry and love who you want. Forget the Bible. Forget what your Auntie told you. She knows nothing. Listen to me."

Rusty shuddered, holding himself, feeling sick to his stomach and terrified. He looked at Vic, so confused.

"But I... I don't know how." Poor boy, so bewildered. He'd never lived without rules, Vic!

Vic nodded toward Shiloh.

"He'll help. He wants to help. He loves you, Rusty. Loves you like a brother. It could be more, if he wasn't so sure you were homophobic."

Rusty looked at Shiloh, fiddling with his blanket. And, now that Shiloh was asleep, Rusty didn't bother to hide the want in his eyes. He bit his lower lip and shook his head.

"No. I... I can't do that to him."
