Seraphes Tyr Hawk huh... alot of stuff I already knew... but good info nontheless. I thought you were going to talk about some REALLY in depth stuff... like, if I remember correctly, Sephiroth's name's meaning, or it's connection to Tifa's last name... and stuff like that. (i thought it was interesting o.O) sry for 2x posting but my Gothic black magic freak friend told me that sephiroth comes from the sephirothic circle in black magic. It's used to get power to yourself instead of using a summon circle. My friend said there are two types one for summoning demons and another to gain magical powers. I've heard that Sephiroth are something like the different qualities of some deity (deities?) in some religion... Or something. (*would look it up if the computer wasn't acting funny*). On a side note, if you look at the Gate in the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, it says Sephiroth on it, so Seraphes, your explanation makes sense in the case.

Sephiroth This name derives from the Kabbala, a religious lore that has its origins in Jewish mysticism: "At the Creation," explains Kabbalist spokesman Steve Edelman, "God sent out a pulse of energy into the void. It presently branched and sorted into ten distinct spheres or aspects, corresponding to the numbers 1-10. These are known as the Sephiroth. To return to God, the soul must negotiate each of the Sephiroth, from ten back to one. Armed with magic and faith, Kabbalists have set out to conquer the Sephiroth. Many Kabbalist secrets have to do with making the trip successfully. "Now the Sephiroth fall into a pattern, which is called the Tree of Life. It is also the body of God. Drawn among the ten spheres are 22 paths. Each path corresponds to a letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and also to one of the cards called 'Major Arcana' in the Tarot. "Some Sephiroth are active or masculine, others passive or feminine. But the Tree itself is a unity, rooted exactly at the Bodenplatte. It is the axis of a particular Earth, a new dispensation, brought into being by the Great Firing." (Gravity's Rainbow, Thomas Pynchon, p. 75

heart Cait Sith is more than just a fairy tale creature that brings good luck. He's from old Scottish folklore, a creature that resembles a cat with a white spot on his chest. Some people think that he's actually a witch! Oh yeah, it's also pronunced "Caught Shee", and also explains why he has a scottish accent in the movie. (But my kitty's name is still pronounced kate sith 3nodding ) heart

Its ok to say now that the FF designers did their homework to reference all of these things.
MY TURN! I read something on gamefaqs once and have yet to find it again but it references alot of the translated things in FF that was 'ameicanized' not to offend or otherwise piss someone off. I dont recall alot of it (and when i find it again ill post it up here) but i remember In X (you already hit this) Khimari's "Spirit Lance" was changed from the spear that pierced Christ's side and killed him. It was called something completely different. (havent seen the name in a while.) Also there must be soo many legends that they reference im just stating another that tidus' ultimate weapon the caldabrog was an (Irish or Scottish) blade supposed to be powerful enough that it could slice a hill in two.

Angra Mainyu (also known as Ahriman, both appear in FF) is the evil spirit of the Zoroastrian religion. Think devil but with destructive tendancies rather than corruptive.
