Teagan had to look at him for what seemed too long a moment before answering as truthfully as she could. "I think... we just like each other. And we're going to make the best of things for as long as we can. I think you're handsome," she said, with a furious blush on the last bit. "And have a good heart for all you've done for us. And you're a fabulous kisser, so there's my reasons."

Nat shook his head, still smiling. "Ok...I like that..." He smiled lightly, looking down at his feet. "Well...I think you're beautiful...but I already said that...." He blushed slightly. "I love your fiery temper.... and when you get riled up.... but I also love you like this..." He looked back up at her, smiling lightly

Teagan wondered if he was aware of his use of the word 'love.' She didn't say that so freely, since she was all too aware that using it too often gave away its potency. Though, she wouldn't say anything about it then. "You're about the only person who does. I've gotten some bad words thrown at me because of it."

"Thats hard to believe..." He smiled though you could hear the good humored sarcasm in there. "Its just you Teagan. Thats wonderful and if they dont like it, well...screw them!" He lifted his hand to gesture for emphasis.

Teagan giggled and hugged him for that. One step closer to her having a healed heart was how she saw it. "Yeah, I guess you're right... I never thought about it like that. I always went around blaming myself for things after I was done being angry. Never thought that people might just be wrong..."

"Dead wrong..." He nodded, still smiling though furrowed his brow. He looked up to see an almost full moon through the trees. It was getting a tad chillier out, so he unbuttoned the slightly fruity sweater he was wearing and brought it around her shoulders snugly. "I really...really dont want to head home..." He smiled shyly to her.

Teagan muttered a thank-you as he placed the sweater around her. It smelled like him, so she wrapped it high up around her neck and shoulders.
"Nothing's really open around here. All we could do is walk. Find a field, look at stars, grab a few kisses..." They certainly weren't in Veratia. This was farm country, where entertainment was few and far between unless created.

"Well I dont want you to miss your bed time little miss..." He winked, taking her hand again as he pulled her away form the tree to just start walking.
Nat suddenly felt strange. Why did this feel so right yet so wrong? He pushed this thought down, hoping it wouldn't fester up in his heart later.

On the very outskirts of the town, where the road began and the real darkness began, too, was a field that was resting for the year. Tall, green grass had been planted earlier in the year, and now that it was almost up to Teagan's knees, she thought it a good place to simply lay down, regardless of her dress.
The grass was soft enough and long enough to protect her from the dirt below, while giving her cushion for her stargazing. "Come on, Nat. Get your city arse down here and look up at that sky. You ain't never seen anything like that in Veratia, lemme tell you."

Nat laughed a little, shaking his head as he followed her into the field. He sat down next to her, looking up in awe. "You're right there..." He breathed, his eyes wide. "I've been to countless planets and...I've never seen a clearer sky..." He furrowed his brow, but smiled so gently. "It's..." He looked over to her, taking her in. "Beautiful..." He breathed, not able to look up at the stars for a moment.

Teagan's eyes were still on the skies above, but her hand found his. They laid there and she pointed out the different constellations she knew and pointed out which stars she thought were other, distant worlds. One particularly bright one, though, made her stop and think about something.
"...remember when you found me on the floor, all in a tizzy because a dream made me fall out of bed?" she asked. "Well... that dream was about my parents. I was little again, crying and reaching out to them in their ship, and beggin' them not to go. But they did, and as their ship went up into the sky, I grew taller and taller, until I felt myself falling back into something I couldn't see. Then I woke up with a huff and a bang, right onto the floor."
The end part, at least, made her laugh. Not so much the dream part though. "Guess it wouldn't have been such a nightmare if it hadn't been something that'd actually happened when I was so little..."

Nat scooted a bit closer to her and gripped her hand tightly as he gazed up at the stars during her story. "...Why are you still here then? Are you waiting for them to come back?" He asked, mostly out of curiosity more than anything.

"Oh, they do come back. Every time they're done with their latest adventure, they come to check up on me and give me gifts to make up for everything. Last time, they gave me a house. Isn't it grand?" Her sarcasm poisoned her tone. Teagan heaved a very frustrated sigh and swept her hand across the stars she couldn't reach herself. "I don't think I was a planned child, Nat. They didn't want some kid cramping their style while they went on their trips, so they left me in a nice world with nice people. And that's pretty much it... I wasn't worth raising themselves, wasn't worth bringing. Wasn't worth settling down for..."

Nat rolled over on his side to look at her. The hand hooding hers left her hold, and propped him up slightly, but still managed to touch her face softly, playing with her hair slightly. His other arm wrapped around her waist to bring her close. "That's not true..." He whispered to her. "They aren't worth you waiting around for...they don't deserve to have a daughter like you....a beautiful...wonderful daughter...."

Teagan scooted over enough to rest her head against his shoulder. "Thanks, Nat..." she said rather sadly. "I mean, I'm alright with it. It's just how things are, but at the same time it's just really hitting me now how messed up this has been. You know? I really think... I really think that seeing Richard and Lorey made me realize that."
Richard and Lorey, with their insane happiness. Of course they'd been through hell and back, but they understood that it was time to settle down. They made that house a home, and would stay there to make a family one day. It wasn't like her house, which was a home, but for one person. It had been that way ever since she was old enough to stay home alone and make her way, and always felt like it was missing much needed noise every time she stepped in the door.
