Seriously, I know like 90% of the cadences our drumline does. And I'm a freshman too. (Woo class of 2012). I basically reserved my spot on the drumline for next year... on quads.

Herminator-187 I basically reserved my spot on the drumline for next year... on quads. i kind of want the bass drum again next year. you can bang as hard as you want without getting caught. :]

Amber-wolf13 You know your in guard when.... --The band members freak out when you are near them in drill and start writing a will in their heads --you threaten band kids with your equiptment on a regular basis --you have too many bruises to count. --you can point out the dents that you have put in the band room ceiling. --a ceiling tile or light gets broken and the custodians know who did it. --you have a points system in place. (I believe trumpets are 55 points if you hit them) --you walk through the halls, to the band room, with a rifle balanced on one shoulder, a sabre on the other, and a flag in your hands...just to freak people out. 3nodding that last one so sounds like me 3nodding

Phantom of the Forum You've been in pit too long when: You've played set-by-set so much that you can tell band members where we are in practice when they don't hear the director on the LongRanger. You've discovered that chimes are actually cool. You get excited to play the guiro for a performance which requires songs from a previous year's show. (lol, yes, I played guiro last year in one song and I'm excited to do it again.) You get mad at your director for changing the ending to a song just so it ends jazzier for said performance, but the change requires cutting a vibraphone solo. D< You can say you've seen more bands in competition than the band itself has. You can say 'I'm so cool, I'm in marching band and I don't even march!' we call our longranger loony. don't ask pls it is 2 long of a story

Mm, I definitely have a spot as snare again next year, but I'd like to try quads.
I already know most of the cadences on both...but this is my third (second and a half technically) year on snare, and it's getting a bit boring. >>;

you know youve been on gaurd to long when:
you practice with w/e u can get ur hands on (even in my case a broom handle with no broom)
you fight with the coach over a move that you were taught one way and she is saying is a different way (asssumning youve been on longer as is the case with me and mine)
when u intentinally bop a nouther member u dont like and apalogize sincerly just to keep out of trouble when you know and she knows it was intentional.
when one of your coaches went out and bought shoes that are one size fits all ( our size is 8's)
when you and your coach are estatic when u relearn a simlple move because you were taught it the wrong way and you ve been doing it that way for years..
when your coach has no money cause she spends it all on the beloved gaurd
when one of the first things you ask about collages is if they have a gaurd.
(have doen this many times,infacct seems to be a qualifyin trait)
when you can absentmindly run through a routine while holding a conversation about some thing completely different.
When all you watch for in any movie or performance is the gaurd.
when you laugh at other gaurds because they sucke d miserably and you know thast your better then alll of them combined
this one isnt for the weak of mind and body.. so please be open,
when you and your other gaurd members have dirty jokes concerning all of the equipment and you can still own the drum lines, and have the tendency to make them the but of said dirty jokes..
for example (of the dirty jokes)
ours was(my firsetyear)
"Sweet little girls with big metal sticks" we were not sweet

you started on the piano and somehow got there
you can put your ear right next to the shrillest note on the bells, and it doesnt faze you, but everybody else is in pain
you can play Dance of the Suger Plum Faires with a broken hand, and your not gay
the xylophone is a more manly instrument then the saxaphone
you figured out how to put various object in place so you can sleep behind them
you ace the scale tests, every single one
you can play random notes that sound right
playing with a broken arm is nothing

you know youve been in perc too long when.....
you walk up to another band member besides guard and they run screaming because you have sticks in your hands.
you can tap a song on a brick wall with your pencils (or your head...)
you have a burglary system on a 5x5 room specifically to hold your equipment...and the rest of your house doesnt have an alarm......
when the rest of the band members qq and whine to your director/drum major on a daily basis and know they are talking about you before they come over to talk to yuo...

You can hit a trombone with your flag in the middle of a parade, end up dancing with the guy that was attempting to play in your ear (cause he was marching WAY too fast) and manage to make it look like part of the show. eek
You can march flags, snare, and cymbals all in the same halftime show.
You can play any other regional band's cadences in your sleep
You keep your guard uniform and your band uniform in your locker at all times in case of a surprise show
You have called in sick to work to go on a band trip
You have called in sick to work to finish your homework because you've been practicing so much that you didn't have time before
You take flags home and hand wash them in the bathtub at the beginning and end of every season (and then mend all the holes left by stupid first years)
You can do the last four year's shows in your sleep.
You know how to fix every piece of equipment with a swiss army knife, guard tape, and a pencil.
You buy new sticks as a gift to your section for Christmas because the BD is a tightwad.
You can get completely naked to change into your uniform on the bus and nobody looks twice cause they've seen it at least twice a year for the last six.
You carry a teensy coffin case filled with sticks cause you just know somebody forgot theirs (also, these sticks all have your personal tape design on them so that nobody will steal them. Mine's pink and black checks)
** I'm guard and percussion so I have tons of these... (SUPERNERD!)

You know you've been in guard too long when...Revised
1.Your guard has special signs, when used you crack up laughing because there's a HUGE story behind it.
2.You poke peoples bruises and say its not that bad.
3.your friends aren't bothered by you spinning less than a foot away from them.
4.the Band is in your way.
5.you hang out more with the whole band then you parents.
6.you spin you "flag" when its not there. (you air it)
7.when you set up dates to make food the night before and bring it to school the next day so you can have a random sugar fest right before a game and the pep-rally. (we ate brownies and cake for breakfast)
8.your coach says one more time it really means 50.
9.it doesn't hurt anymore.
10.you get all pissy on who's flag etc. that is.
11.you miss your equipment dearly during the brake unless you take it home with you.
12.you join in with the band on a cheer off against the cheerleaders.
13.your teaching the newbies and when they do something wrong you immediately say why don't you get this?
15.your guard has its own rituals.
16.your guard has its own rap.
17.you get paid to hit someone in the band.
18.you try to teach a drum line member a toss and they do well at it but not just right. (poor Aaron...he tried so hard and yet i still couldn't help but laugh)
