I didn't think that I'd ever find a book where the sex scenes are the best part about it until I discovered Beloved Embrace by Cassie Edwards. xd To be honest that's the only reason that it's still sitting on my shelves. This is so unlike me... what have I become?

In my opinion one of the most beautiful things about books is their ability to make people think critically and deal with the issues presented in the book. Sex is highly stigmatized in most modern societies (eg. It's called "doing the naughty/nasty"- giving it a negative connotation) when it should be embraced as a part of human nature. I think including sex in novels (depending on the situation in which it occurs) forces the readers to adjust their socially dictated view of sex.
That being said, it is also entirely possible for an author to pervert that action, which is what I believe you're talking about as "random smut". I see no point in just randomly throwing two characters together for the sake of it. Fairgrass made a good point a page or two ago: it's the power of the Writer.

Sometimes i think its alright to have smut in books as long as you don't take it too far. A sex scene here and there may be necessary or it may make the story better, as long as you don't take it too far.
