Koorie blinked and looked over her shoulder, seeing Flame. Her face broke out into a soft smile and she climbed out of the water to meet him on the dry ground. "Flame, you found this place as well?"
It was evident from her face and her eyes that she was going through some inner turmoil, but she was doing her best to hide it from Flame. "I think this is it.... I think this is our home." The word 'our' felt so good to use, but she did feel a bit of sadness; was she really the one he wanted to be tied down to?

Flame nuzzled her affectionately when they reached each other, his eyes full of excitement.
"Yeah," he replied, "It's amazing isn't it?" He looked around at it again, taking everything in. It was perfect for him, and for her he thought, or he hoped. But she seemed to be excited about it, and she had said, 'Our home.' Flame smiled at the thought and looked into her eyes. "Yes...our home...I'm glad you like it..." he stopped suddenly when he noticed the expression in her eyes. He tried to read what was going on behind her eyes. Maybe she didn't like it after all...or maybe she was having second thoughts...
"Koorie...is something wrong?" he asked her. "Are you sure you like it...we don't have to live here if you don't want to..." He trailed off, not wanting to say any more. He didn't want to think about not being with her, or not living with her. It was what he wanted, and he wouldn't trade anything for it. But he didn't want to think about what he would do if she didn't want the same thing. Maybe he had been too hasty, and had missed what she really wanted. Maybe he had only been thinking about himself he thought...

Koorie remained silent for a while, then, for the first time in years, she felt tears escaping her eyes. "No.... everything is not alright...." She finally confided softly. "Am I really the one you want to be tied to... Someone who can't share half of their world with you and whom you can't share half of your world with...." It hurt to say those words, to speak the truth, and Koorie's heart felt as if it were to shatter at the slightest touch.
She stood there, looking down, the tears streaming from her eyes. She was so ashamed of herself, but at the same time, she had to know. She'd already been left by the man she'd thought loved her before, now she wanted to make sure it wasn't happening again. She wouldn't be able to handle knowing later on that it didn't work, that it wasn't all she'd thought it was.

Flame stood there and looked at her in shock. He hadn't seen her cry before, and he hated it. Anger built up inside of him, but there was nothing, or no one to direct his anger at. If anyone had done this to Koorie to make her cry like this, Flame would have a target for his anger...but the only one who could have made Koorie cry was himself. He hated himself for making her doubt, and for making her cry. The fears that he had been thinking only moments before seemed to be coming true. 'I was only being selfish, only thinking of myself....how could I have done this? I don't deserve someone such as Koorie....but I can't let her go.' He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He needed to be rational. He needed to make Koorie see that he loved her more than anything and wanted to be with her. And he needed to convince her that she needed him...at least...he hoped that she did. He needed her.
He quickly went to her, taking her face and lifting it towards his. "Koorie..." he said, fiercely fighting back his own emotions, "don't cry, love." He kissed her eyes, as if it would somehow stop her tears. "I love you. More than anything. I never want to be without you. I'm a horrible, selfish, arrogant creature...and I'm sorry, but I can't help it. I want you, and I want you all to myself. Forever. I don't care that I can't see half of your world, or that you can't see half of mine. The world we share together is better than either of them by themselves." He looked away for a second, taking a deep breath. "But I can understand if you don't want me. I'm sorry for making you cry. I don't deserve you Koorie. I'm sorry for trying to take you away from the water." He looked back at her again, a fierce look in his eyes. "But nothing will ever change the way I feel about you. Do you understand that?"

Koorie took in a slow breath as kissed her eyes and spoke to her, calming herself down. Leaning into him, she breathed deeply, inhaling his scent. He wanted and needed her just as badly as she did for him, and that alone was enough to calm her a bit. Slowly she wrapped her paws around him, holding tightly to him, being careful not to jab him with her horn as she nuzzled him a bit.
"You're not selfish, and most certainly not horrible.... arrogant is a bit debatable, but that's beside the point. The point is that you love me so much and so unconditionally that there is no way I could possibly say that I couldn't return your affections. Flame, you are the man of my life, for now and for always. I should be the one apologizing for putting you through this... I was hurt by someone in my past and I wanted to make sure that this is truly what you wanted before it was too late again." She looked up at him, then smiled and kissed him.

Flame tingled as her cool skin pressed against him, and he felt heat pulsing through his veins - a good kind of heat. He was assured by her words, relieved that she needed him an loved him as much as he loved her. He pulled her tighter to him as he continued to listen. A new wave of anger washed over him suddenly as she mentioned that someone had hurt her. He didn't have time to react before he was pulled into her kiss. The first wave of heat, the good one, returned and bolted through his veins, diluting his anger for a moment. But his anger was not something to be easily reckoned with and he pulled away from her, staring into her eyes. "Who hurt you? I'll kill him...I swear I will..." He couldn't think of anything else now, except for his hate for whoever could hurt Koorie.

Koorie was silent for a few seconds, surprised at the sudden anger in Flame's eyes and voice. "Flame... even if I knew where he was, I would not want you to hurt him" She was touched by his want to make things right for her.

Flame took a deep breath, calming himself. "I'm sorry...maybe that was out of line. I don't want to do anything that would upset you..." He didn't want to push the matter any further, it was already upsetting enough. He breathed out and then with a swift motion, pressed his lips again to hers.

Koorie closed her eyes, leaning into the kiss and letting the heat spread over her body. Her mind was at complete ease; everything was in it's place perfectly, but she knew she had to tell Flame the truth, that he wasn't her first lover.
Softly breaking the lip lock, she rubbed against his cheek. "The man who hurt me... was someone I'd thought at the time I loved. Without a word he left me, though, and I'd never seen him since. That was years ago, so I doubt he's even still alive...."

Flame held her tightly listening with curiosity. He felt a range of emotions flow through him when she was done. First Jealousy, which he pushed away quickly, because he knew it was a pointless emotion, especially now. Koorie was his. Second was anger again. And then finally, this too eased away and he felt nothing but his compassion and love for Koorie. He nuzzled her gently and tried to speak softly. He sighed and then said, "I'm sorry, love. I'm sorry that he hurt you." He leaned back so that he could look in her eyes. "I will never leave you, I promise." He thought again of the man that had hurt Koorie, and again his anger came back. He should have known he couldn't repress it for too long. "But I swear...if he's still alive and if I ever see him, he'll be sorry he was ever born..."

Koorie looked deeply into his eyes, then smiled, softly nuzzling him. "Flame.... The past is the past, and in this case, it will remain unthought of from this moment on. You are the one I will stand by for now and for always... unless you're doing something outrageously stupid, then I'll be beating sense into that thick skull of yours..." She smiled and kissed his lips, letting the heat rush from his body through hers.

Flame chuckled, "yes, I know you you will, love." He kissed her passionately, the flames on his back and tail blazing hotter than ever. Finally, after a long moment, he pulled her down to the ground and grinned at her playfully. "So, is this going to be our new living arrangement?"

Koorie smiled and nodded, pulling him tightly to her. "Yes, I believe these arrangements will be more than sufficient for our needs." She wrapped her tail around him. "It feels good to say 'us' and 'our'." She whispered softly into his ear.
