"Looks like we showed him!" Fleetwing laughed. "ShadowClanners are such cowards!" She snuggled into Wildspot. "I love doing things with you, Wildspot," she added, not realizing that she was echoing his thoughts.

Wildspot enjoyed that eventful day. Not everyday was like this one. He wanted to keep doing things, but it was getting late and he was getting tired.
"Shall we head back to camp?"

"It is," Fleetwing agreed, leaning against Wildspot. "Yes, it's getting late. Maybe we could hunt together again tomorrow?" She brushed her tail against her side. "Thank you for the beautiful day," she mewed affectionately.

"Right," Wildspot replied.
He walked into camp and gave a nice long stretch.
"So tomorrow, we'll have more fun?"
He smiled and made his way towards the warriors den.

Fleetwing nodded and brushed her fluffy tail across Wildspot's flank. "Same time tomorrow," she purred. With that, she padded off to a cool spot in the clearing to take a nap.

Wildspot woke the next day with the feeling of being overheated. He looked at the bright burning sun high in the sky and suddenly felt a hatred for it, for making him feel so hot and uncomfortable. Then he realized that it was already sunhigh! Had he really just spent the whole morning sleeping in this heat?
He looked around for Fleetwing, who he had promised to go hunting with.

When Fleetwing woke, it was to a shocking heat. She had never felt so hot. Mentally cursing her thick, soft fur, she got to her feet. Seeing Wildspot not far away, she grabbed them some freshkill and took it over to him. "It's hot," she complained. "Waaaaay too hot. I'm not sure if we'll want to do any running in this." A glance at the sky told her that it was sunhigh. Did we really sleep in this late? she wondered. "What do you think?" she asked.

Wildspot could be crazy, but never that crazy. There was no way he'd do any kind of running.
"We should go see if we can find some water, like in a puddle or something," he said, gratefully biting into the freshkill.

Fleetwing nodded. "Sounds sensible. As much as it pains me to say this, but maybe we should do what ShadowClan does: just wait until dusk to hunt." She winced as she remembered that rabbits were unlikely to wait until dusk to go out and about. "Or...not," she quickly amended. She sighed. "Honestly, I'm not quite sure what we should do about hunting...All I know is that whatever I do, I'd like to do it with you."

"Well then, let's go," Wildspot said, motioning with his tail for her to follow him. Then he added, "With this heat, we're probably just as likely to find prey at night."
He growled slightly at the uncomfort of the heatwave.

Fleetwing nodded. "You're right." She got up and stretched. "We might as well try hunting now. Or at least getting something to drink, I'm thirsty now." She threw the cloudless sky a dirty look. Why couldn't it rain, just this once? With a sight, she nuzzled Wildspot. "Where do you suggest we look?"

"Maybe near the RiverClan border."
He walked in the direction of RiverClan and after a while, he begun to pant due to the heat. Him, a warrior panting like some dog! How much longer was it until leaffall? He wasn't sure if he could take much more of this.
He didn't really want to hunt in this heat, but the freshkill pile was running low. He would be disgraced if he didn't at least attempt to feed the clan, so he kept his senses alert for any signs of prey.

Fleetwing silently walked beside Wildspot, careful to scent for prey along ever step of the way. It was too hot to run; her fur became uncomfortable and her paws burned on the hot ground. The grass would soon be dry and golden--a bad sign. Who knew when a wildfire might start? "How soon to Leaffall, d'you think?" Fleetwing asked Wildspot. She stopped at the scent of rabbit. It was right up ahead of them. With a leap, she tore after it.

Wildspot decided not to chase after Fleetwing to see if she caught the rabbit. It was too hot for him to want to run. Instead he looked around to see if he could find any water.
He caught something to his left. Was that a puddle? He moved towards it, only to have it disappear. Foxdung, just a mirage...

The rabbit was fast. Its speed implied fresh energy--it had probably just come from its burrow. The oppressive heat and Fleetwing's thick coat combined to sap the energy and breath from her. The rabbit was fresh, able to stay a tail length ahead of her claws while she wheezed and panted. She didn't even realize where she was until the rabbit swerved to the right and Fleetwing saw the lip of the gorge. For one desperate moment, she admired the rabbit; it had lead her right into the gorge while increasing her speed so that her own momentum would lead to her downfall. With an emphasis on fall. Fleetwing gave a short cry before she tumbled down, her front claws just barely snagging a grip on the rim of the cliffs. "Wildspot!" she screamed. She could hear the mad and malevolent sniggering of hte water below her.
