Joliette shook her head "Nope, no boyfriends, no dates, just work and studies" she said looking back towards him "I guess looking at it I've had a pretty dull life if you dont include chasing down hot leads and getting stuck on islands"

And Vasile's plans crumbled before his eyes.

He definately wasn't going to bed her now. No way, no how. He was hoping to just have some fun - relieve some pressure... you know. Mess around. But no way was he going to do that to a virgin. Someone who never had even had a boyfriend wasn't going to be interested in a just a fun, no-strings-attatched night.

Vasile shifted. "Yeah, then you definately need to learn to relax and have some fun," he said with a smile.

He stood up and stretched. "You know, I really need to swing by and talk to Ambrose. I feel bad kind of ditching him at the cafeteria. Can I knock on your door tomorrow for the run?"

Joliette blinked "Oh, ok then, I wont keep you" she swung her legs to the floor and stood up "So a run in the morning then?" she asked moving towards his door

"Yup! Well, I mean, whenever I get up. That's usually morning." He smiled and walked her to the door. "See you soon, Joliette, it was nice talking with you."

Joliette smiled and nodded "All right, yes nice visiting with you, I'm in 27, but I'll probably meet you on the beach" she said with a smile before stepping out of his duplex

Vasile watched her go then closed the door behind him, shaking his head. It was probably for the better anyway. He could already feel the guilt stirring up inside him. He had a sudden urge to go and talk to Cass.

But first - he needed a really cold shower.

Vasile finished his shower and got dressed, blow drying his hair and spending a good twnty minutes on getting it to look perfect. The longer style was definately growing on him, but he was discovering how hard it could be to tame. You can't just gel up shoulder-length hair and mold it into place. And so you have to add just enough treatment so it does look stiff or wet - but not so much that it goes all frizzy.

Finally getting it to where he was happy with it, he headed off to Cass's place, stopping by to grab a pretty flower off one of the plants potted around the village. He hadn't seen her the Halloween dance, and surprising his encounter with Joliette had raised some questions in his mind. He knocked on her door and waiting patiently for her response.

"One sec!" Cassidy called. SInce she had a tendency to forgo the chair in her own room, visitors meant a sudden rush for it on her knees, and this was precisely what she did. She crawled up into the chair without too much difficulty, leaving the books she'd been sorting scattered over the ground. It was... well, it was an awful mess.

She grinned, slightly bashful, at the sight of Vasile. "Um. Hi."

Vasile smiled, a bit surprised to have to look down at her when she opened the door. He handed the flower to her. "Hey there, Cass. May I come in?"

"Of course." Cass rolled out of the way, still grinning. She had a feeling that once, she would have been blushing furiously in a situation like this, but she wasn't even sure if she could blush anymore. "I.... didn't expect you. How are you doing?"

The Halloween party had been... something else.

"I'm doing good, I supposed," he said, stepping in. He gave a glace at the book and quirked an eyebrow. "Am I interupting something?"

"Oh, no." Cass looked a little embarrassed. "I'm just reorganizing things so I don't have to put stuff high up anymore... It was all alphabetical, so Asimov was up top." She grimaced. "Maybe I'll just ignore the shelves entirely. Feel free to interrupt me, really." She gave Vasile a careful look, and her tongue flickered. "Is something on your mind?" she asked, her tone a little calmer.

Vasile kneels down by the pile. "Maybe we can get Moreau to order you some lower bookcases or something. You know, there's laws about having to accomadate people with limited height capabilities," he's glad he caught himself before saying 'hanicapped'

He tried to hide a wince when she asked if something was on his mind. Being that, before he came to the island, the answer would generally 'not a chance,' it must pretty obvious when something was worrying him.

"A bit," he said honestly. "I was just wondering... how would you define.. us."

Her tongue flickered again; it was already becoming a very natural reaction of surprise for her, despite the fact that it disturbed her every time she did it. "I would... I..."

Oh, hell. She'd never, ever been good with relationship stuff. If this had been going anywhere, she was very likely to screw it all up now. Cassidy took a deep breath. "I'm not sure, Vasile. I mean... this really hasn't been going on that long. But I suppose that at this very moment, we haven't really... done... anything that would count as anything other than plain old friends stuff." She couldn't quite look at him. "But I suppose that I would *like* it to go somewhere."

Vasile smiled warmly at her and went over to sit next to her, but couldn't help but look alittle surprised. "Really? Sometimes I get the distinct impression that I make you uncomfortable."

Cassidy squirmed. "I make myself uncomfortable. I couldn't very well let you flirt with me when you thought the scales were fake, eh?" With a bit of a grimace, she looked helplessly at him. "You're... you're Vasile DiRossi, for crying out loud. It's a little hard not to be even a little intimidated. I like you. I like you a lot. I'm just not entirely, totally, one hundred percent sure if I like you as a friend or as something more."

Vasile experimentally reached out and took one of her hands. "Well, I know they're not fake now. I've known since before the dance, too."

He shifted a bit, "and I can promise you I'm not the Vasile DiRossi you've seen on the covers of magazines. This has been hard for me. Not only dealing with the physical changes we're all going through here, but I've had to change the way I feel abuot myself in almost every way. Its a bit scarey, and I feel a bit lost. Nothing here is even close to how my life used to be."

Cassidy nodded, barely perceptible. Vasile's hand felt... well, satisfying and good; she squeezed it gently. "I feel pretty lost, myself," she offered. "But at least we're all lost together. It... evens things out." She smiled a little.

"It certainly helps," he told her, smiling.

He looked over her face carefully. Her appearance didn't render him uncomfortable, though Vasile that was certainly because things were put into a new perspective for him here on the island. Hollywood standards of beauty only seem important when you have nothing better to do with your life than worry about what's new and cool. No one looked normal here - not even the people who ran it when you put things in contexy. While people like Dr. Moreau and Dr. Duvert might have nornally been able to walk beside him on the street and he wouldn't have even given them a glace - so much pain and anger caused Vasile to view them completely differently - as monsterous, crazy men. And all the islanders, no matter how freakish their transformations thus far - the sole fact that they were all victems here, together, gave each and every one of them an almost innocent beauty. It had been a very long since Vasile felt such commaradarie with people he, honestly, didn't always know that well. He even jumped in and defended the new black man - and he didn't even know his name. Certainly not something he would have done normally.

"Soo," he started, lowering his voice and learning in slightly, "what can I do to help you decide on that 'totally not 100%' part..?"

Cassidy let out a nervous giggle. "Well, this helps a little."

Did she just really say that? She must be losing her mind. She would never have even imagined saying something like that six months ago... she'd always been too afraid.

"It does?" he asked, reaching up to brush the hair away from her neck. A twinkle came to Vasile's eye. So a part of him reveled in this predatory seduction... that would probably never change. "What about this?" he learned in and placed his lips against hers, bracing himself for whatever that reaction might be (including a slap in the face - but he had to try)

Cassidy, for a moment, went stiff. She pulled back for a moment, her eyes wide and scared. What had happened to that spark of bravery just a minute ago? Was it really so fleeting? She could face her own reflection, after all, and that was the scariest thing she'd ever seen, so what was this compared to a kiss?

That made up her mind. Though she was shaking, Cass leaned back in.

Vasile held her face softly, and held the kiss for a good while, though he, reluncantly, kept it rather chaste. He didn't want to frighten her off. This was new, and rather exciting for him. For years if was used to be being with women who were willng to trample over each other to get to him... he'd never had to place this cat-and-mouse chase before. That kind of scared him a bit to be honest, becasue for the first time he didn't know what to do. As much as he -really- wanted to, he doubt Cass would be open to him sweeping her up and taking over to the bed.

Oh no, those were definately thoughts he shouldn't be having right now. He was already getting -way- ahead of himself.

Finally, he pulled back slightly and gave her an almost questioning look.

Cass inhaled slowly. "I... that was... okay, that helped a lot. That was pretty good." Oh, god, she hoped it was. It had been ages since she'd kissed anyone. It somehow had never come up in the past few years.

He was looking at her. And she had no idea what he expected. Oh god oh god oh god oh--no, wait. She shouldn't panic. Panicking was a bad thing, although she was certainly glad right now that she wasn't turning venomous. Just don't panic, Cass. She'd managed to not make a mess of this so far.

She moved to fling her arms around his neck in a sudden hug.

Very releaved she didn't hurry up to think of an excuse that Vasile should leave, or slap him, or something to that extent, he closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around her, holding her to him as he returned the hug.

Yes yes, this was nice. He liked her when she didn't look so scared all the time.

He lets his hands wander over her back, finally lowering to rest on her hips. He didn't really know to say, or what she expected him to do (or not do).

"It's been... well, a while, since I had any sort of relationship," Cassidy admitted, mumbling into Vasile's neck. "This is... sort of weird for me. But nice," she added hastily.

"Well, if it helps, I've barefly had anything that would resemble a real relationship to most people. So we can be...weird together, I suppose."

"Heh. All right." She didn't really move, being too comfortable.

Vasile held onto her for a good while, until he looked over her shoulder to the books. "Hey, can I help you finish organizing those?"

Cassidy giggled. "Is it really that bad of a mess? Yeah, you can help me, if you really want."

"No, but it gives me a legitmate excuse to spend time with you and try to understand this little obsession of yours. I might want to borrow some."

"Weeeeell, I suppose I could let you borrow some," she teased, and let him go.

"Oh, well thank you, I didn't know it was such an honor, " he teased back, and went over to help organize her books in a way that she could more easily get to all of them.

Joliette looked through her pile of envelopes she went through them as carefully as possible having already poked holes in the corners of many of them by accident with her new claws.

She found the one she was looking for and slid it under the door of her friend.

Sometime in the middle of the night, a grey-furred figure quietly makes a stop on your doorstop to deposit a cloth-wrapped package. The cloth is cut from a scrap piece of blue tarp from the looks of things, and tied shut with a length of rope.
Pinned to it is a note on Feral Labs stationary (much like the pad found in all of your duplexes in the desk drawer), penned in an elegant, confident hand.

Quote:

Vasile,

I hope that the holiday season is finding you well - I unfortunately have not had the pleasure of your company in some time, and I have someone that I would very much like to introduce you to. I know that this time might also bring some of our spirits' down in a reminder of what might have been. And thus... my gift to you.

I know that your name may never actually grace the pavements in Hollywood, but with the courage you have shown here, and the compassion I have seen from you here has gone beyond anything that I have ever seen you do on film. I believe that, in a way, you are a better man than many of those superficial individuals who might have a position that you may have envied. While I do not have the power to convince those people to add your name - and they very well may have already - at least this way, you can see your name in the star it deserves to be in.

Your friend,
~ Ambrose Maurlias

And once the rope is cut or untied, inside the package is a flat star cut from a very hard wood, Your name has been etched into it, and an appropriate knot in the wood is in the center of the star in the same location as the bronze plate on the Hollywood stars. On the back is etched "Vasile - a star of a man, From Ambrose

When you awaken in your room on Christmas morning you see gift wrap everywhere.

It appears to even cover places on the wall, and something really long and wrapped is on one side of the room.

There are a few more packages on the counters and tables.

When you start unwrapping them, you find they are mirrors. Over a dozen mirrors of different shapes and sizes all around the room.

Merry Christmas Vasile...

Vasile tried to focus his thoughts as the village approached. He didn't know why, given his current, ah .. "condition", he felt so torn between Cass and Ambrose. Mostly, he figured, Ambrose would be a more sympathetic ear. Going up to Cass and bragging about how he was offered "the best head" ever and having the will power to say no (barely) just didn't really strike him as romantic.

That WOMAN. Vasile kicked the dirt in frustation. How dare she have the gall to call him a CHILD just because he didn't sleep with her even though his body obviously did. Of course his body did. It had been -far too long- since Vasile has been with anyone. ANYONE making the wild claims she was making would turn him on. Hell, he wasn't exactly a supermodel...tatoos weren't his thing, and she even smoked. All that prooved to him was that he was getting desperate.

Vasile paused to take the gift he was making for her out of the bad hanging from his side. He took a deep breath and fixed the last little add-on to it, and then headed over towards Cass's duplex. He knocked on the door and ran a hand though his hair, hoping he didn't look too ragged.

Cassidy had just returned from a bit of walk, and hadn't yet taken off the prosthetics; she'd just been starting to. But with the knock, she hastily undid that and hobbled over to the door. She flung it open, and grinned broadly when she saw Vasile.

How long had it been since she'd looked him in the eye?

"Look at this! I finally figured out my prosthetics!" she laughed, flung her arms around him, and kissed him on the cheek.

Vasile was a bit surprised to see her looking him in the eye, and he gave a broad smile. She took him in his arms and he readily holding her to him. Her scent filled his nose and he turned his head to nuzzle at her neck. Yes, this was definately a better choice than Ambrose's palce.

"That's great!" he said, pushing her gently back so he could come in but not break from the embrace. "Merry Christmas," he finally got out, remembering he hadn't seen her since the holiday.

She laughed. "Merry Christmas, and happy New Year," she returned, beaming. Cass let him come in, her tail twitching. "I'm afraid I was being all... antisocial, during the holidays," she admitted. "I got sort of depressed, you know. I've been feeling better though. How have you been doing?"

Vasile was hesitant to let her go, so he made sure to keep hold of her hand and stand close. He liked being able to look at her eye to eye. "Yeah, its depressing to think how long we've been here... but I guess things are starting to settle in"

He reached in his bag and pulled out a little.. thing made from seashells. Several of them glued together to resemble something like an alien. "I know it looks like a third-grader made it, but I haven't given gifts without the help of Barney's since, well, I was in third grade."

Cassidy took it from him, grinning. "It's lovely," she said, quite geniunely. "It's perfect. Thank you so much, Vasile." For a moment, she just held it in her hands, turning it over in absolute delight; then, with the greatest care, she placed it on the bookshelf in a place of honour, or what was relatively a place of honour. "I'm impressed you managed to make anything out of seashells. I don't think I could."

"Believe it or not, I have a creative streak. I went into acting for more than just the money." He was grinning from ear to ear, happy she liked it. Once the fragile figure was safely on the shelf he pulled her to him and into a passionate kiss. There was definately a hunger to him today, though he wasn't pushing, his hands were almost shaking from the frustration and desire bubbling underneith the surface.

Cass let him kiss her, though her eyes went wide with surprise. She pulled back a bit, looking a bit puzzled. To attempt to ease her own nervousness, she tried a small joke: "Well, um. I know it's been a little while, Vasile, but..." She let out a small, nervous giggle and shook her head, half at herself.

Vasile cleared his throat apologetically as she pulled away. "I'm sorry," he mumbled, but looped his hands back around her waist, not letting her get away too far. "I'm just happy to see you."

"No, no. Don't be sorry." Cassidy smiled at him, and her tongue flickered. She just didn't know what to do with Vasile... her few romances, such as they were, had been so very unlike this. She took a breath, and plunged right in. "I'm sorry. I just... I get so nervous, and I don't know what I'm doing at all, and I... I always knew I was rather avoidant."

She gave herself a slight shake and buried her face in the curve of Vasile's neck.

Vasile let a grin curve over his lips as he held her. "I think you know more than you think," he admitted, stroking her back. "And you're certaintly doing a lot of things right." So many things were flying through his head right now, it took all his might to keep his attention on the conversation
.

"Well, thank you," she mumbled into his neck. "But I don't think I believe you." She put her arms around him and squeezed, anyway
.

Vasile moved her over the bed and sat down, keeping her to him. "I could proove it to you," he purred out, learning in to kiss at her neck. He felt down right predatory, something he hadn't felt in a quite some time... not since he knew he could have anyone he ever wanted and not have to worry about consequences.

"I suppose you could," Cassidy squeaked. Unbidden, the softest hint of a hiss slipped from her lips. "I'd, um... I think I'd like that..."

Vasile felt his ears and tail p***k up happily at Cass's response. Trying to just keep himself from just throwing her down and having his way with her, he took a deep breath and layed her down gently on the bed. He prayed to whatever gods would listen that Cass wouldn't cop out of him halfwin. He felt like he would go insane.

He leaned over her and kissed alittle at her neck, when a nagging thought came to him. "You have... before, haven't you?"

"Um, no," Cass admitted after a pause that was a little too long for her liking. "I haven't. None of the others ever... well... it never got that far." She would have blushed if it would have shown through her scales. "But... I do," she whispered, "I do want to."

A sting of nervousness raced down Vasile's spine. Virgins made his nervous. Very nervous. He'd never been with a virgin, ever. His first time was with a nineteen year old model when he was fifteen, and she definately was more experienced than he was.

Oh... but she said she wanted to. But was she sure? He really didn't want to mess this up -now-...

Oh hell, it was too late. Vasile quickly found hismelf not caring. "Just let me know if I do anything you don't like," he disclaimed. Vasile made a silent vow to himself to make this his best performance -ever,- even by his standards, as he leaned over and pulled her into a deep kiss.

That night, at 3am on the dot, there is a LOUD sound of an explosion, originating from the sky above the Island. Looking out, or anyoune outside would look up to see a brief fireball in the sky. Following that, any power that is on begins to flicker, going through a few brownouts before finally shutting down altogether. If you happen to be awake at that point - you would notice all the lights around you, any electronic equipment that wasn't battery operated flicker and die. However, within a few seconds of the final powersurge and failure, you find yourself being pulled into a forced unconsciousness.

When you wake up, it is midafternoon the following day, though it would vary within a few hours depending on the individual. You are NOT in your duplex. You wake up to find your deep in a pile of mud in the jungle. You are within earshot of the tree where Cassidy is waking up.

All of the buildings on the island are in 'shutdown' mode. This means that everything is locked tight. If you attempt to force your way into any of the buildings, your own duplex and the Town Hall included, then you will find that from the outside at the very least, they are impenetrable. If any window was broken - it is now fixed. All of the lights are off - in every building. Even the electric fence surrounding the main laboratory is turned off - though still closed. Attempts to break into the main complex will be met with equal lack of luck as breaking into a duplex or the town hall.

The only items you have on you are the items that you would have been wearing when you were asleep/fell unconscious: including clothing and perhaps a few battery-powered electronics IF You would have been wearing them. That's it. Everything else is where you left it - if it was in your duplex, it still is and you can't get to it.

There is no sign of what happened to the staff. The labs are quiet from the outside.

Welcome to the Wild.
